Apologies for asking what most of u will think is dumb questions. I've searched the site and Googgled but haven't found definitive answers to these questions so will venture to ask the experts on here. I have a Kaiser purchased from and branded Orange:
I've read about SIM and CID unlock - can anyone explain theses and tell me how to unlock this phone for any network without killing it - yes i know i have to accept certain risks.
Once I've done that I want to flash the ROM. there a few guides on here but they seem to be written for tech minded people. I'm not a complete dunce but i don't wanna risk £400 getting it wrong.
I have found a few ROM's that i fancy and am sick of the crappy Orange flavour.
Please help me?
To flash different ROMs you want to CID unlock your device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
To use any carriers SIM card you need to SIM(aka Subsidy) unlock the device. There are a few places that will do it for a fee. I believe there are some references on the forum for people you can find with a search to do it or you can try:
http://www.imei-check.co.uk/
Ok thankyou - that helps - which should i do 1st - CID or SIM - or doesnt it matter?
Doesn't matter

Hi Guys,
Firstly, i am new to this - so if i ask any stupid Q's, please forgive me
I will be getting my MDA Vario tomorrow, and before i do too much customisaton and transfer my phonebook over, i would like some advice on upgrading.
From reading this Forum, i believe that I have to do a CID unlock and a SIM unlock. I am familier with a SIM unlock, but what it a CID unlock?
Also, from what i can gather, in order to do this - i have to downgrade to an older version of the rom first. Once i have done this and unlocked the device, does anyone have any recomendations on what ROM i should upgrade it to? I have heard the Qtek rom is a good one, but will is this the best one to be going for?
Thanks for your input guys. You can be asured, once i get familier with this device i shall be providing much imput to this forum!

Hi, I'm new to WM5/vario as well (experienced on palms & treos).
You only need to unlock the wizard if you want to use another suppliers SIM card, and to get rid of the T-Mobile stuff you need to remove the Carrier ID (CID), so you can then change the rom to another one not recognised by your TMobile rom.
I understand, but could be wrong, that you only need to down grade if your device already has one of the latest a2dp stereo roms with push email built in.
Hope this helps (if I'm right)!!!
I buy unlocked tool from unlockitnow.com.
I try all instructions how they write.
I have an Internal Error.
What is a problem?

I use to pay them for the service and it seems that they send to me the same lokiwiz2 that is usually offered in this site as free.
I use to contact first imei-check.co.uk and they wrote me back with the following:
Hello,
they do support it (not listed as O2 but is same as this one):
http://www.unlockitnow.com/Qtek/9100.php
The service uses the technology from us so it is SIM and CID unlock for G3 and G4 devices with ANY firmware in ANY language.
Regards,
IMEI-CHECK Team
Any help from someone???
Do you know the EnableRAPI.cab file you are suppose to run on the phone. Whats the steps you've used.
And.. if you were to be a bit more hardworking searching through the forum ... or just going through the wiki, probably you've got it done by now and save you a few $$. read the wiki, top horizontal bar, "XDA-Wiki".

If you got your phone from a carrier i.e. with a contract it is most likely locked to that carrier.
SIM lock means that you can only use SIM cards from the carrier you are locked to. If you SIM unlock your phone you will be able to use sim cards from other carriers or pay as you go plans without receiving the invalid sim message.
CID Lock means that your phones software is locked to your carrier. This means that you can only flash updates from that carrier. No custom flashing, no cross carrier flashing. Before you flash anything from this forum you will most likely need to be CID unlocked. Read the stickies to find out how to do this. Make sure you follow all the steps. The process works.
If you have not personally CID unlocked your device you must assume you ARE CID LOCKED. Even if someone before you unlocked your device it will not hurt to do it again. If you have any problems flashing your device this is the first question back that you will get when you ask for help.
god dammit. there is a wiki and nooooooo one reads it.

Great advice and gently put....!
Asking questions is ok but do your research 1st! 90% of what you need to know has already been discussed, so the answers are here. If you don't find an answer, by all means ask...it is a forum.

If you personally haven't unlocked it it is most likely CID locked. For a G4 you will have to go to the pay site to CID unlock.
There is also a G4 sub-forum of the Wizard forum that might have a good bit of information that you would find useful.

Hello everyone!
I got my HTC one M7 and it's my first smartfone ever so I'm a total noob at these things.
I know there are many threads for beginners but could someone just answer a couple of question really quick and simple, or at least point me to the appropriate threads
1) is there a way to SIM unlock it for free? It's carrier locked to VIP Croatia
2) which method is the easiest to unlock the bootloader?
3) I plan to install that kernel which gives you the option to use HTC logo as a power on/off button, will I have to install that kernel before or after a custom ROM?
Thx

Your expensive device can become useless pretty quick if you don't know what you're doing.
Check this out as a general guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45432325&postcount=2
To answer your questions, I don't know about sim unlock. Always had unlocked devices. Maybe just pay the $10 on eBay and get someone to provide a code?
Easiest way to unlock bootloader is through htcdev - official hTC site for unlocking etc.
Last one, don't know of a kernel for our devices which allows power on/off by hitting the logo.
With kernels, you need to flash after the custom rom as the custom rom will have it's own kernel which will overwrite your custom kernel if you flash it first.
Good luck.
First of all thx a lot for your reply cr1960
Yes I know it's pretty risky, that's why I'm here, I have to admit though I had some little experience only in changing rom-s, once turned a korean S2 into international version, and recently installed cyanogenmod on my old man's S3 mini, but of course I consider myself a total noobie.
I've been searching yesterday on ebay yes, but I hope it will work as I've been reading some ppl complaining I didn't work for their carrier and stuff like that, hopefully they offer refunds
Thx for the good luck, I'm gonna need it
