Set TomTom 5.21 on Kaiser - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi, i install on my at&t tilt the TomTom v. 5.21 but when i set the parameters of gps in start-settings-system-external gps with the following data:
Programs: GPD1
Hardware: COM4
Baund Rate: 115200
Access: option flagged
the tilt after the reboot doesn't store the parameters that i have just selected.
What must i do to set the tomtom with internal antenna???
My best regards
Francesco

You need to install tomtom 6.032. That has intern gps in his software..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355275
I had also problems with my gps but it works. Just install GPS Test on you device and check it out.

5,21 will work fine on your device, put the GPS Aplet settings back to what they were and don't touch them, this is what is messing up your system. Start TomTom and go to change preferences/ GPS Status and press configure, set the GPS port up within the TomTom application, when the little yellow/ blue disk on the top right of the GPS Status page is spinning it is working, if it is stationary you have a setting wrong - Mike

Hi i have installed the versione 6 and i have selected "other GPS NMEA"
anyone can help me to set the tomtom and the parameters in the external gps menu??
Many Thanks!!
Francesco

Question
I get the message “No GPS Device” after installing Navigator 6 on my HP iPAQ 6510 or 6515. How do I select the internal GPS receiver in my iPAQ 6510 or 6515?
Answer
To select the your HP iPAQ 6510 or 6515's internal GPS receiver using Navigator 6, see following instructions:
1. Open the File Explorer and browse to the folder Navigator.
2. Delete the file navigator (be sure not to delete the file TomTom Navigator or you will need to reinstall the application).
3. Start TomTom NAVIGATOR 6.
4. When prompted, select Other NMEA GPS receiver.
5. Set the GPS baud rate to 4800.
6. Select Internal AGPS NMEA.
there is no sound after installing tomtom 6 and restard it?
hi
you have an answer to rename the btavui but I don't know how do it?
pleas help me or
send an e-mail at : [email protected]
thank you
Explore your pda with active sync. Open the folder windows. Rename the file "BtCoreIf.dll". Do a soft reset and the sound should be working now.

COM7: (maybe Other NMEA receiver, I don't know) at 57600 bauds.
The ipaq internal GPS is weird, and will be activated ONLY with the correct speed. Real port is on COM7: and using 57600 bauds speed
COM4: should work too, but seem to be linked with AGPS, which require EDGE or GPRS connection.
6510 and TomTom 6
I was following the link above. I have just installed TomTom 6 on my HW6510. I can get the sound working by renaming the file above. However I can't select the internal GPS receiver by following the instructions. I deleted the file Navigator (under the directory navigator) - on restarting TomTom this just asks me for preferences (language, left / right handed etc..) it does not give me any options for selecting the receiver.
I must be missing something but don't know what.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hard reset. Then make sure you have an up-to-date version of Tomtom 6. The first release wouldn't let you choose it as you first install it. In that version you would have to go to change preferences and find it in there. It wasn't hard but it was well hidden. If you have an up to date version it will ask you right when it installs. Good luck.
com7?
i dunno why , but my hp doesn't show com 7 anywhere. there are com 1, 4,5 and 9. but not 7

TomTom 6 Guide for HTC Kaiser (FAQ)

Here I compiled list of question and answer about using TomTom 6 with the HTC Kaiser. Forum Mods, if this is good enough, please make it sticky topic.
*** Which version of TomTom is in the Application CD?
6.032 (8351) - as of September 15, 2007
*** Is that full version or trial version?
It is called TomTom Taster Edition and It is full version, it will not expired, and there is no feature limitation compared to retail version.
*** Is it installed in the ROM by default?
No, it is not. You need to manually install it.
*** How to install it?
Connect to ActiveSync, from the HTC Kaiser Application CD, launch:
Installer_Kaiser_ttn_6_032_8351_HTC_WWE_20070716.EXE
*** I dont have that executable file in my HTC Kaiser Application CD!
Yes, you are not alone, probably you purchased North America version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=329957
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327917&page=2
You can also download it here:

Or here (.CAB):
http://www.sendspace.com/file/9379xf (this link might not be permanent)
*** I have TomTom 6.030 (or prior version), what's the main difference?
6.032 has "Built-in Internal GPS" setting and the HTC Kaiser also have one.
*** Can I use/install other maps?
Yes you can. You can purchase additional maps (maps only), and then activate it.
*** Warning! Do not change the external GPS setting!
You should see "external GPS" icon in the Settings->System, do not change anything there.
You might need to hard-reset your device, more info:
http://www.modaco.com/word-warning-re-GPS-se-t258943.html
*** How can I use my own TomTom software?
So, you do not want to use TomTom from the Application CD.
Basically, you just need to install your own TomTom software and use this setting for the GPS:
- Other NMEA GPS receiver
- GPS baud rate = 4800
- GPS is connected to COM4:
For detailed information, check out here:
http://www.modaco.com/TomTom-Kaiser-t256790.html
*** How good is the internal GPS? Any problems?
From my own experience, it is working fine. Signal strength may vary and it depends on the situation (cloudy, clear sky, surounding area, buildings, etc.).
On average, I got satellite fix around 30 - 60 seconds.
However, some people experienced problems which you can follow here:
http://www.modaco.com/GPS-positioning-problems-t259285.html
Paul from MoDaCo.com, reported a bug
"The GPS bug seems to occur with some applications whereby the GPS 'data stream' will pause for a few seconds at a time, which makes some apps think the GPS has gone away (e.g. Google Maps) and other apps just update in sudden jumps rather than smoothly."
http://www.modaco.com/Paul-Reviews-HTC-P45-t256569.html
But, I think that problem is intermittent (randomly occur).
*** How about TomTom PLUS service?
Check out here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328444
*** TomTom always start with NO SOUND, why?
It's a bug, you have to switch off the data connection before starting TomTom.
SIMPLE FIX: Roll the volume wheel and sound turns on.
Thanks to all XDA-Dev users, Paul and other users from MoDaCo.com
Feel free to add more information in here
I added this thread to the wiki.
The above is all good info.
However, if you are having problems do not believe that the above is the only setup that will work.
I happen to use a bluetooth setup from time to time and have used the external GPS settings without problems.
A working setup for me for intermal GPS uses Other NMEA on COM 9 at a Baud Rate of 19200. In the Tomtom settings.
All other GPS programmes I use are set to COM9
When I setup the bluetooth I have it set to:
Serial Port (ticked)
Outgoing Port COM 9
Authentication (unchecked)
External GPS (in System menu)
(Perform a full backup before changes here - due to reports that changes here may ruin the GPS connection requiring a hard-reset to get it going again)
GPS Programme Port COM9
Hardware (None)
Access (Manage GPS automatically - ticked)
By the way the basic freeware plotting applications I use DO NOT require the clumsy workaround of starting tomtom in order to open the internal GPS. That problem seems to be limited to an issue with Google Maps.
NB
Other ports will work - eg COM0 but you must ensure that for example if you set outgoing port in bluetooth (if you also use BT GPS) to COM0 then it will also be COM0 in tomtom or any other GPS software. Any mismatch and you'll wait forever!
NB
In the tomtom satellite screen (the one that shows aseries of columns for each satellite - there is a useful verbal comment at the top of the screen it will say one of three things:
1
No GPS Device - (always says this initially for 2/3 seconds. If things are set correctly it will move to 2 but if your ports are wrongly set it will stay on this)
2
No Valid GPS Signal - (means it has found internal GPS device and is trying to find satellites - anything from 2 or 3 seconds to couple of minutes if you have not used Quick GPS, it will then move to 3 if you are in range of satellites)
3
Other NMEA GPS Receiver - (says this when locked on to satellites and working correctly)
The above 3 steps are useful to just check whether the setup and port is correct. Even if you do not want to use tomtom it's worth running it at least once just to iron out any port problems.

Tried to install this 6.032 version on my TyTN II but got the following error on the device upon starting the installation: "Setup Error: Unable to install application. Please update your device ROM to the required version before trying again." - any ideas? Thanks ...
Would be happy to pay for the software / maps if they wouldn't it make all that difficult to get it installed for a trial ...
Maybe this is a dumb question, but I can't get the On board GPS to kick up and when I look under settings, the only thing there is "External GPS"....
How do you get it to use the internal GPS?

Are you sure u installed 6.032 Tom Tom release? Is the version caming with CD and is not in Tom Tom web. Is the only version that works with internal GPS; but youet guy. can have problems to install it, if you have a previous version.
There is no "internal GPS" icon in the "Settings", only "external GPS"
And dont mess around with the "external GPS", you might need to hard-reset.
TomTom 6.032 has its own setting to use the "internal GPS".

I would disagree with that. Other versions of tomtom DO work. But in tomtom's "configure" select other NMEA instead of internal GPS

I agree. I wanted say is the only version capable to tune internal GPS from Tom Tom program. I know versions 6, 6.02 and 6.03 works with othen NMEA and port 4, but my impresion is with internal get satellites faster.
Is there a way for TomTom to give the vocal instruction through the Bluetooth headset ?
Thanks

Anyone get a wrong rom error when installing 6.032? UK T-Mob.
Yes me too
As I understood, the T-Mobile version does not have TomTom Taster edition included in the application CD, correct???
If that's the case, I am afraid that the TomTom 6.032 from the HTC Kaiser "unlocked" version is a special build only for that unlocked model.
Just use 6.030, it works fine (read in the FAQ).
Yeah i guess if the rom numbers dont match up, it wont let you install. Not on Taster CD.
Using 60.30 now 8)
No TOMTOM love...
My Kaiser just showed up today and there' no TOMTOM on the apps cd.
What gives?

I installed the Tom Tom and the one free Map, but I still have the same issue I had with Google maps of having to run GPS Viewer to start up the GPS.
I'm sure its a configuration issue for Tom Tom but I can't figure out what the problem is.

works fine for me when setting the port to 4 and and baudrate to 4800 in Google maps
In START>Setting>EXTERNAL GPS
I have this setting:
programs (TAB) - DATA PORT GPS: COM4
hardware (TAB) - hardware GPS port: none
- baud 4800
Access (TAB) - Automatic GPS control (DEFAULT)
I set in google map COM4 and baud 4800, but don't work
Sorry, but I've the TYTN II fron 2 days
Use any GPS Application like TomTom to start the GPS and then switch to google maps without closing TomTom. This should work.
Goole Maps doesn't wait always long enough for a gps signal.
Special2k3
Ok, thank to all for reply, now I'll try...
Keep retrying till the gps gets the fix. If you get the fix with another application and then try with google maps, it will be very fast.

Tnx all
All solved!
All default and google maps work perfectly, without open other GPS application!!!
How, exactly, did you solve it?
that's bloody annoying he didnt share the love - i have the same problem!
I noticed that gps doesn't work when you're sitting at home. I've never had it failed on me when I was in the car, specially when the car was moving.
I used google map's and the gps feature to take me through an hour of traffic coming home from work.
GPS
I start up my GPS with GPS Photo to initialize(takes time to load) then open Google Map.
Hope this helps
Will givethe gps foto thing a go - good thinking!
Its amazing after 2 days wifi gps sniffing how many wireless AP there are

Here is what worked for me.
Goto Settings>System>External GPS, use the Kaiser defaults of GPS program port=COM4, Hardware=None, Baud rate=4800, Enable "Manage GPS automatically."
Run quickgps and download the current ephermis ?spelling data. This speeds up the time to first satellite lock.
Go outside, preferably open location with clear view of the sky.
Run gpsPhoto from the Camera app.
Allow a few minutes to obtain first satellite lock.
Once you have a satellite lock you can close the Camera app and open Google Maps and change Menu>Options>Track Location Settings to "Set by Windows". Press the OK left softkey.
Press the Right Menu softkey and select Track Location.
Bingo you should have a Satellite Lock and Google Maps should center on your location.
I only had to do this procedure once as Google Maps now aquires a lock in seconds. The Kaiser gps works better indoors than my 2 previous Blutooth GPS units, I can see which room of my house I am in. As with all GPS devices it works better in an open environment free from reflections from buildings and free from Tree cover. I am really impressed with the Kaiser GPS.
you rock dude
SOLVED
Sorry to all for my tardive reply
I've solved the problem simply without change nothing.
All default, and launcing google maps the gps start automatically (if not, initialize it with any gps software, like tomtom, gps photo, etc).
BUT - IMPORTANT
Google maps function well in open spaces, I tried it in closed, so, don't worked.
In open space, all ok, it's work fine.
N.B. I've an italian version of O.S. :
CE 5.2.1620 (build 18125.0.4.2)
Rom 1.56.408.5
Data Rom 08/28/07
Vers. Radio 1.27.12.11
Vers. prot. 22.45.88.07H
I feel it can help someone.
Thank's to all for your help and interesting

You said something very interesting here...you said you can see which room you're in. How is that? more of a curiosity thing than a useful thing but I guess it could be handy in large buildings (assuming you can get a fix).
Also, FYI, the new Google Maps is much better at waiting for the GPS to fire up. The timeout value is much more forgiving. I've noticed in the new Gmaps, It just works now.

internal gps settings?

i was wondering what wwere the settings for internal gps to work with some maps
i think you have to install a gps software like tomtom or else to access settings but i i donc find any option on gps on mine (only some dev app )
well i got tomtom but it says
"no satellite connetions, no gps device etc."
i remeber reading somewere that i think u gotta goto external gps device under settings and change settings
and for gps reciver i choose in tomtom
other nmea gps receiver
In TomTom, you should be able to choose "Other NMEA Receiver" then BAUD 57600 works well for me. After that click on COM4.
IF you don't find it; look in Preferences -> GPS STATUS -> Configure.
TomTom version 6.032. From Touch Cruise.

Another GPS Help Me Topic

This is just my last resort I suppose. I recently flashed to NATF's v4.4 and 1.11.25.01 radio plus installed Google Maps on my att Fuze.
But when I go to locate myself Google Maps tells me "Your current location is temporarily unavailable". Sweet.
So what have I done thus far?
I've looked around and I've done the Advance config tweaks.
I've updated my Quick GPS.
I've ran the HTC GPS Tool (I honestly have no clue what I am looking at here lol but I do get a Mode 2: Not Fix thingy) for about 2 hours hoping for *something* to pop up.
Finally, I've done the GPS Test version 1.04 but it maintains itself at "Looking for GPS unit.
I've soft reset, hard reset and cried.
Is there anything else I'm missing? Any help would be mucho appreciated, thanks!
Hi Coola,
I am using the standard HTC-ROM.
0) First of all, I am not sure whether your GPS unit is working in your phone.
But assuming that the hardware is still OK do the following:
1) Go to settings > System > external GPS.
Check if all options are still normal.
Program port is COM4.
Hardware port : none.
Baudrate : 4800.
Access: Check automated GPS control.
NOTE that an external connected GPS (e.g. Bluetooth device) unit will have a baudrate of 4800. The internal which resides at Com4 has a standard baudrate of 57600. These settings need to be checked to make sure they are still this way and it will also give Windows automated control of the GPS system.
2) You need to install Advanced Config 3.3.
http://www.touchxperience.com/fr/out…ol-32-cab.html
With Advanced config 3.3 under GPS:
1. disable A-GPS
2. disable GPS logging
3. logfile name must be empty
4. old logfile name must be empty
5. maximum size of logfile must be 0
6 delete the files : \windows\GPSLogFile.txt and \windows\GPSLogFileBack.txt
After these settings the tool will soft-reset your mobile.
3) Then edit registry with TotalCommander
http://ghisler.fileburst.com/ce/tcmdpocketarm.cab
Don't make any errors here, check your steps carefully.
These values seem to work fine and give you a much quicker fix.
Under: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\
- Drivers\GpsOneDevice\PollInterval -> 100 (default is 1000)
- Drivers\InputBufferSize -> 512 (default is 4096)
- Drivers\OutputBufferSize -> 512 (default is 4096)
- Drivers\SleepOnNoData -> 100 (default is 1000)
- Multiplexer\MaxBufferSize -> 512 (by default not present, you have to create it, make a Dword value)
After these settings are in place, restart / soft reset your device.
4) Run the program QuickGPSfix and download the new data.
This step needs to be repeated anytime it is outdated.
5) Download and install the HTC GPS Tool.
http://rapidshare.com/files/84815853...C_GPS_TOOL.cab
Upon starting it should show COM4 and a Baudrate of 57600.
Go outside the house, preferably with good wheather.
Hit the "Open"
Hit the "Nav. Int."
Leave all as is, no need to change the options.
You should now start to see the GPS data flow over your screen in the grey area. Wait patiently, the first fix can take up to 10 minutes (afterwards it wil go faster). If it fails it sometimes seems to help to move around a little bit and to reboot your device if it takes way to long.
See if you have any red bars below the satellite numbers (signal strength per satellite) When you get a fix, the bars and satellites to which it is connected will show up green. If there are no red bars here, no data flow etc then there is something wrong with the ROM / radio combination and your phone.
Close this program if you have a fix.
6) Start-up Google maps. Wait for it to download the basic map information, so you don't have any interference from the "now downloading data" message. Then start the GPS use. Fix should now go fast. Once it has a fix you can start moving towards your destiny.
From now on use HTC GPS tool to get a fix.
Close this program, start the program with which you want to use GPS.
Good luck, Jouke.

the location Google Maps is trying to get is from the "cell towers", make sure your selecting com4 or MS controled Gps. In other words , google trys to locate with towers first. Then if you select to use GPS, it will try using your Gps setting under options. If you already know all this, then disregard my post, if not, then I hope it helps!
Ah I see what I did wrong. Thank you guys for the clairification!
I had previously made all of these tweaks and I did see some green bars but it never said fixed, which I assumed it would.
I did the HTC GPS Tool and booted up Google maps and voila! It found me
Thank you thank you thank you!
