Radio upgrade, signal strength worse?? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

I recently upgraded from radio rom 1.02 to 1.15 and I noticed that my signal strength is not what it used to be. Has anyone on the cingular network upgraded and noticed this??

There are alot of radios between 1.02 and 1.15. Go back to that ftp site (XDA) and you will find different radios. I am using 1.13 myself. Just replace the radio.nbf file from the folder that I told you to download with the different radios and test them all.
Download this file and replace with the one inthe folder you just downloaded previously for the 1.15 update
ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/Radio_Roms/Radio_1.13.1_Type_II/radio_.nbf

Yep...worse
I'm using O2 XDA IIs in Cingular's network. Yep...my signal strength is worse than the original radio rom that came with the phone. So far, I tried them all, 1.08.00, 1.10.00, 1.12.00, 1.13.00, 1.15.00. All of them seem to have the same signal strength which is worse than the original one. I used to be able to use my phone at my work but not any more since I upgrade. I'm trying to find the original radio rom (1.02.00) but no luck so far. I already contact the O2 technical support but no reply yet. I will let you know as soon as I can get one.

no signal
the lack of signal strength from att/cingular was the whole reason i dump them. it didnt matter what device or phone i was using. of all the radio signals used, att uses the lowest. with t-mobile i have pretty good signal except for in a select few locations. verizon was the best signal i ever had. i just couldn't handle the montly fees.

yup. i guess it's the carrier not the phone.
i have no problem since i upgraded to 1.15

Missed calls on WM6 ROM + 2.47 Radio anyone?

Has anyone else noticed their wizards missing calls and txts since updating to WM6? It seems to have the same problem that the AKU3.x ROMS have with missed calls, but not as bad. So far I've noticed that I'll miss a call if the phone has been in standby for a couple of hours. Wake it up and phone calls start coming through again. I'm using 2.47 radio from molski's 2.26 final rom, and had no problems with missed calls before I replaced 2.26 with WM6.
WM6 Crossbow + 2.47.11 Radio (Molski.Biz.AKU2.3)
I have on at least one occasion. So I'm not sure if that was a fluke or a similar problem you face. I've got the same setup though, WM6 (Orwells) with the 2.47.11 radio.
I've also noticed weird things with this ROM such as email notifications that are setup to blink the light on the phone amber with no limit and also ding. Sometimes I checked to see that I did get an email according to the Today Screen plug-in, but it never dinged or flashed the amber light. So I will soft reset it and it then it works fine.
Phone did not show missed calls and voicemail indicator does not show either. I called my voicemail and there were a ton on messages.
G3 Tmobile MDA

2.47.11 Radio Rom
IT HAS BEEN STATED MANY TIMES! That this is a beta rom. There are lots of bugs and problems with these roms. These are not final roms. They were still in testing when they were leaked. From what i have seen and read some people were recommending going with the 2.19 radio rom. i have the 2.26 radio and it works good enough for me here in southern ca. i have had no problems at all. So try flashing with another radio or just switch back to a more stable rom guys. Good luck
Hi
I had same problem but installed 2.19 radio rom and everything is fine. Therefore I say use 2.19 radio rom, works best with AKU 3.3 rom.
FOR ALL PEOPLE WHO ARE USING WM6 !!!! INSTALL RADIO VERSION 2.19 IT IS THE ONLY VERSION THAT WORKS WITH ANY ROM SO DOWNLAOD AND INSTALL IT !!!!! with other radio roms u get missed calls and other problems so the best way to solve is to install radio ROM version 219 this has been discussed in many topics in Farias and molskis ROMS and in WM6 roms threads.
Are you talking about the file "T-Mobile-UK_2.19.11_Radinly.zip" on the FTP site ?
Because I saw indeed strange things with my phone and after reading this post, I checked and saw that I was using radio 2.47.11
i live in an area with a weak signal. in the 2.19 radio my reception is much worse and i have a larger area in which i get no reception at all.
hello, i have the 2.47.11 and no problems. SMS, GPRS, Bluetooth ... Al works perfekt-

same with me i think it depends were you live. like me 2.19 doesent work for me i would get dropped calls.
Well. I live in a large metro area so coverage is usually excellent. I don't have problems with missed calls when using AKU2.x ROMs. Its just a prob with AKU3.x and WM6 ROMs. When I played with AKU3.x ROMs, changing the radio ROM didn't make much of a difference. Even so, I went ahead and downgraded the radio to 2.19.11 anyway to see if it makes a difference in WM6. Also, the problem only occurs after the phone has been on standby for a couple of hours or more.
WM6 + 2.19.11 Radio ROM
I wonder if it has to do with GSM 850/1900
I wonder if it has to do w/ different ROM's liking different GSM frequencies. Cingular's (I'm sorry 'the New AT&T') network is so mixed up, it uses a combination of all 3 frequencies. At least T-Mobile's frequencies are consistant throughout their network, but their coverage isn't as good.

I live in a big city and usually have good coverage. The 2.19.11 radio does have significantly weaker signal reception than the 2.25 or 2.47 radios. Unfortunately I had to make a choice between staying on AKU2.x and using the radio of my choice or going with AKU3.x and sticking with 2.19. Right now I am testing the 2.61 radio and it seems to be working with AKU3.3. I have had 2 calls that went directly to voicemail but I am beginning to think that was just a network fluke and not an issue with the radio. No delayed or missing notifications. All attempts to call my phone are making it to the phone. Testing is still in progress and maybe the issue just hasn't reared its ugly head yet. But I am beginning to be hopeful that I can have my cake (AKU3.3) and eat it too (good radio)

Radio ROM 2.71.11 + Fix?

Hello, quick question:
If I have upgraded the radio rom 2.71.11, do I still apply the XDA Cingular Radio Fix2?
Btw, I'm using T-Mobile in the US, if that matters...
ROM:

Where does it come from?
I thought the 2.69 was the newest release
2.71.11 is newest radio rom for kjam.i am using last 3 days.very nice,no miss call or internet problem.very good signal.by the way i am using molski 2.26 wm5 final rom.you can find radio 2.71.11 under the wm6/the boring rom title.good luck
Should I install the fix if I get the new radio?
I'm not usually an early adopter for new roms, but I decided to throw this one on and give it a go. Glad I did. So far, I've seen a very marked improvement for both signal strength as well as the time to recover signal compared to both the 2.19 and 2.69 radio roms. I'm presently using it with the Cingular fix, so I can't comment on whether or not it's needed. Hopefully this continues to work well. The strength is fantastic. Using on Tmobile in nothern New England.
Miss calls on this 2.71.11?
Lets share our experience with the 2.71.11
Phone locks up after about 1 in every 3 calls.
IPL:2.21.0001
SPL:2.21.Olip
Radio:2.27.11 w/XDA Cingular fix 2
Ext Rom: TNT.1933
I have been using Radio 2.71.11 since it was posted and have had not one problem with it. I do get better reception. Battery drain is the same. When I first flashed radio 2.71.11 I added the radio fix cab and it showed no connection and searching, so I uninstalled the cab and all is fine?
just a thought, matbe you have to have IPL/SPL 226 or 308 for the radio to function properly
ipl/spl 308 bluetooth issue
i have an mda vario t-mobile in the uk on pay monthly. since the 308 rom in december, the bluetooth has done weird things. i can now run my motorola stereo headphones on the rom software instead of using the zoki bt cab which fixed the skipping tracks on the previous rom, but now my vario won't talk to my tomtom. an error message saying that it can't find the 'voice gateway' flashes up on the tomtom (one xl), momentarily before the tt tells me it can't find the services on the phone.
hmmm.. is there a way round this apart from sell the phone?

Although I am hesitant to attribute it to the radio rom upgrade, since installing the radio rom 2.71.11 on my phone missed calls have shown up as they should and my particular wm6 rom is known to have an issue with missed calls where they show up as "received calls" when gprs is active.
I'm unaware of any other changes which would have corrected this.
I can also state the rom has been performing well for me..I tether heavily and response has been nice...previously I was on the 2.69.11 rom which would occasionally "go off into limbo" and have to be reset on long tethering sessions..so far *looks for wood to knock on..settles on using his own skull* this has not occured on 2.71.11
I will give a try(as sson as my battery charges over 50% ) than I'll report here
flashing now...I'll report back soon...
Hi,
That is a nice version.
How can I install this ROM and do I loose all my settings when installing it?
Many Thanks
Does anyone know if this fixed the 8125's phone and data issue? I am having the issue and would like to know if I need to downgrade to the 2.1* radios or if this will resolve the issue.
And secondly... (OK totally noob here) I still need to CID unlock this phone with hard-SPL? or would it be better to use SoftSPL so I don't void my warranty?
Thanks,
SoBBie
PS the issue I am referring to is post in any places. It is that you will drop a call if your phone tries to connect to the internet.
Data rates went up but missed calls
I have wm6 tnt 1933 series rom date 9/30/07 ipl/spl 2.26
Mspeed test went up to 70kb from 39kb radio rom 2.19.11.
I never received calls and never received vm reminder.
If it matters I have the cingular fix installed.
Anyone have such issues.
Edit
switched back to 2.19.11
upgraded to ipl/spl 3.08
mspeed test went up to 70kb plus
received all calls
upgraded to 2.71.11
lost the E icon only shows G
mspeed test stayed around 70kb and up
No calls coming in
going back to 2.19.11
about: calls

Good battery performance
Good signal recovering

I use wm6 tnt 1933 and had the same issues. I would have a whole day of missed calls with no voicemail reminder. I have the cingular fix installed but there is still no improvement. I just flashed to 2.71 so I will let you know how this works in a couple of days.

How to change the Radio

Currently, my radio version is 1.54.07.00.
I tried to flash the other radio rom but the radio version didn't change.
Is there a way to change to 1.54.00 or 1.54.01??
Just curious.

Luckily, No
I've used the KaiserCustomRUU (dload from Kaiser thread) and a Hermes Radio ROM (Hermes wiki) and the ones i've tried work fine (the latter ones).
currently using 1.54.30.10 and works a treat (t-mobile uk) - most stable rom i've used on my treo (connectivity/hsdpa).
may sound like a strange way to flash the radio but works for me... (the hermes shares a lot in common with the treo processor/radio wise)

Thanks for the info, i just put in 1.54.30.10 and so far it works, cant tell et if it's an better then the original radio. What do you think? An better better? reception?
is one of the better ones i've tested.
thing is there are so many outside variables (location/time of day/everthing really) that it takes a couple of weeks to fully test the one that suits your area/needs (push mail/hsdpa which I both use heavilly)
have to charge my treo every evening with most of the roms but found the connectivity on this to be the best i've come across - maybe diff in the states.
if only I could go back to GPRS and no push email I could have a battery that lasts 3 days - unfortunately that ain't going to happen..
plus i'm a firm believer of higher version numbers - windows vista excluded
oh yeah,
to answer your question - find reception and data better...
I agree the new Radio 1.54.30.10 is not just better but NOTICABLY BETTER. I have been using the old radios versions at my house and I struggle with no signal to 2 bars to no signal again. Now I get 2 solid bars and sometimes 3 bars. The last phone that I had with great signal like that was the Razr V3.
the new Radio 1.54.30.10
Where can i download the new Radio 1.54.30.10 ?
Thanks...
I found it from Hermes - is it the same?

Radio rom suggested for At&t in Chicago

I am running:
ipl/spl 3.08
OS: TNT.19199 Series V.2 11.0.1
I was wondering what rom i should use?
I installed the 2.71 rom with the cingular fix but the wizard freezes up every time i lose signal. More like, i can still talk or stay on the line, but the actual software freezes up every time i am in an area with very very poor signal.
I don't use a data connection, i just want to get the best signal and no more freezing.
What would you guys suggest?
Thanks in Advance,
Anish88
any idea u guys, i mean a US compatible rom would work too, i just need to have one that wont freeze?

hmmm, does this happen with all the Radio Roms and OS(Roms) or with this particular OS(TNT.19199 Series V.2 11.0.1) or Radio Rom 2.71.11 ?,Have you tried with other Radio Roms or OS ?,if it happens with all, then there must be some Hardware problem.
Most widely used Radio Roms are 2.19.11 and 2.69.11,try out these also.
i tried 2.19.11 but i dont get that great reception. u think if i try 2.69 i will get bettter? however, when i tried 2.19.11 the freezing stopped

I wud say there's no harm in trying what ever Radio Roms are available, check, which is the best which suits you.Certainly try the 2.69,its one of the most common used and recommended.Check my sig,I'm using 2.69 at present, never had any missed calls or bad signal quality.Signal quality reception also depends on the cellular network coverage,in some ares its strong, while in some it becomes weaker.

Run the 2.19.11, I don't have any reception problems with it, and i'm even in a 1900 only area, make sure you hold the phone properly too. I also do not use the cingular fix, i don't like it, and don't need it (I'm on Cingy/ATT).
2.19 all the way. I travel everywhere in the western U.S.A. and I have yet to have a problem with that radio. I have tried all other radios and this is by far the best. The signal may not always be the highest but it is stable.
what does the cingular fix do?
if i remember correctly, it hid my network tab on phone setting, i was pretty ****ing pissed

O2 XDA Ignito (Diamond Touch) radio probs

Hi all. I'm looking for a radio that is compatible with my 12 month old UK O2 XDA Ignito (Diamond Touch) connected on O2 network. Have tried a fair few but hope someone out there can save me trying every single one. All radios that I have tried seem to drop calls, the most recent one just drifts in and out of signal strength.
I have loaded a few ROMS on now and just need the radio to be more reliable.
Is there a special radio for this model?
Thanks in advance.
v1.00.25.05 seems to work just fine for me.
I'm not using mine on the O2 network but if you haven't given it a try try it.
Im using 1.17.25.09 on mine and it works great
1.13.25.24
Just updated to that one from O2 directly, works a treat.
Thanks for the suggestions. I am trying 1.13.25.24 with Benko's latest ROM. I'll let you know how I get on.
Any suggested ROMs which work nicely on this handset?
I'm having a bad experience with 1.13.25.24 losing signal and cutting phone calls.
I see 1.17.25.09 requires SU which I haven't done.
Does it follow that the original radio from O2 for this phone should work well, even with a cooked ROM?
