I just signed into MSN and it says that my 30 day trial has just begun....
Since when did MS decide to start charging for MSN messenger?
(sorry if this has been discussed before - ive been out of the loop for a while!)

Ditto... mobile version seems to want to charge after 30 day trial is up...

http://www.modaco.com/content/Windo...indows-Live-displaying-30-day-trial-prompts-/
Happening to everyone!

Ditto, hope its a joke

WTF, I don't dare to login anymore

this is really pants! Is there some conspiracy btw microsoft and the phone companies?

I just checked, it still works..didnt see any trial period screen..But if I get the screen, bye bye to WML...There are alot of free IM programms..so.."Dont worry, everything is gonna be alright.."

Always been a fan of Y! IM anyway. It's a lot better than MSN.

I didn't get anything when I logged in...
Tilt on AT&T

Portugal, Vodafone, Kaiser with a custom rom.
No splash screen either... At least non as of yet

Orange UK sim WLM Trial now on!
Got it here! 30days and counting!
someone mentioned Y! IM.. os that web based or is there a cab file and software for it?
Cheers

I gave a try and I recieved no spash screen.
btw, I am not using a real hotmail/msn adress but a passport adress instead; this may help.

I found this on Engadget:
Microsoft to start charging for Windows Live Mobile Messenger?

File this under evil chain mail letters come true friends, but if you believe the rising buzz we're seeing at MoDaCo -- and we totally do -- Microsoft may well be set to start charging for Windows Live Mobile Messenger. Apparently users are seeing a message about a 30 day trial with an option to purchase a 30-day pass at the conclusion of the trial. While we understand that this service must cost Microsoft something, we don't think Microsoft understands just how upset this is going to make users of its platform -- even if it is covered under the service's terms and conditions. We're so stoked to watch the fallout, oh, and if you have a Windows Mobile device and want to try setting the date forward on your device, let us know what happens.

Telfort, Netherlands!

x)
huh.. well, theres no msg on my TyTNII n___n..

Just got a message using UK TyTynII on Orange and Orange ROM with .cab WLM and wifi connection saying that I had the 30 day trial.
Just have to wait and see what happens but I can see lots of people jumping ship if they do.

Lebanon, no such message.

Just got the 30-day message also. UK T-Mobile MDA VARIO III, stock ROM. Use this all the time, certainly won't pay though... :-(

Jeff from Microsoft ???
just googled for some answers of microsoft itself...
found something else at modaco.com
a dude called "Jeff" posted a reply on a users question besides the 30 day trial:
"Hi folks, Jeff from Microsoft here (any Mobians on the thread will know me from Amsterdam and a few other events) – first of all, sorry for taking so long to get back to you; we needed to do some investigation as Windows Mobile users were not supposed to get that message.
Here’s what happened: This week we rolled out a direct-to-consumer billing service for the Windows Live client on Nokia S60 in the UK and Sweden. Although we are considering doing the same at a future time for Windows Mobile, this has not been implemented – however, something happened and many of you saw a trial message on Windows Mobile devices. Windows Mobile customers shouldn’t have received any notifications of a 30-day trial and we are working as quickly as possible to correct this.
As you may know, we offer Messenger services through mobile operators on lots of handsets, not just Windows Mobile. Traditionally, customers have been billed by their mobile operators for many of these services, either directly or through their data package."

anyway...using a kaiser in germany with an very old hotmail adress for wlm...haven't seen any 30 day stuff yet...

Installing Blackberry Connect

Hi, I have done a lot of searching on this topic, but haven't been able to find anything definitive on the best way to install blackberry connect. I am about to pick up a Siemens SX66 (Cingular version, but will be using on Tmobile) and want to make sure that I will be able to get the blackberry functionality to work.
I have a few questions/comments/observations that I would love to get everyones feedback on. If there something out there that explains how to get it working, I am sorry and please feel free to point me in the right direction.
1. My understanding is that the blackberry connect software is in the extended rom. So far I have been able to find the following cab files which I believe have the blackberry software: htc_pocketpc_tmo_germany_2.0.0.25-18.cab, HTC_PocketPC_TMO_Austria_Germany_Load_Working.cab and htc_pocketpc_tmo_england_2.0.0.25-18.cab. Not sure what else is in here, but it looks like the blackberry client is there as well.
2. If I use one of those roms, what language will the software be? Will have to use the tmobile UK version for english?
3. I have been reading about people have problems with the phone rom. These are post from a while back, it seems that the UK blackberry client need version 1.0 and the german version need 1.06? Is this correct or can I use the lasted phone rom?
4. Is there any limitations on the System Rom or Extended Rom? Do I need a specific version? I want to make sure I have english on the device though.
5. Let's say I do get all the right software. Is there a problem in the US where Blackberry won't register Blackberry Connect PINs? I was reading in another forum that someone was having a problem with this on their SX66 and also I am upgrading from a Sony Ericsson P910a where I couldn't get my PIN added to Blackberry servers.
The main reason I want the device is to replace my blackberry and this is extremely important. Other functionality is awesome, but secondary as I need to make sure I have access to my corporate email.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!
There are 2 threads in the blue angel section that have Blackberry connect ih the title. Might be of help.
Thanks saw those posts after, I figured the info would be in this section. I posted some questions there as well, but any help would be appreciated. Not sure if this is going to work....oh well..
To the best of my knowledge...
NOBODY has been able to make the BB Connect software work on SX66 on Cingular.
I've all but given up. Maybe WM2005 will be different...
Crap, though I take it the problem is Cingular not the phone right? Do you know if anyone has been able to get it to work on T-Mobile? What is the problem you are having, is it the PIN / IMEI registration issue?
that's certainly a part of it...
pin/imei, software (nothing supported). The blackberry connect desktop software for XDA2 is a couple years old and does not let you change the PIN.
No way to configure, so you're hosed. The O2 software on the pocket pc is also locked to an O2 blackberry APN. No way to change that either.
It's possible that somebody somewhere has taken the T-Mobile German MDAIII software -- and somehow obtained the T-Mobile desktop software -- and translated both --
but I doubt it! Definitely not to be found anywhere on this site...
Of course, I'D LOVE TO BE PROVEN WRONG, as this has been the biggest issue for me since I got this bloody device.
Bottom line: either use the crap XpressMail redirector product that Cingular offers, or use IMAP/POP on a "pull" basis. Neither way works well. We're screwed until Cingular steps up to the plate or until some brave soul on this board saves us all!

Umm i hate to say this but also that PIN number is alos tied to a carrier, and RIM will NOT release that PIN number to be used on another carrier's network, i know, i am a data support rep with Cingular. if you want something just like the Blackberry then go pay and get the GoodLink solution, otherwise i wouldnt complain about something free that cingular offers, I use it and i agree it isnt the best but works pretty damn well considering it FREE!!! for the PErsonal Edition. Besides, if you wanted to use the BWC (BlackBerry Web client) it isnt exactly Push either, the only forms available are the Redirector and the BES, but considering Congular is offering a solution for FREE i woulnt complain if i were you. If you wanna get mad at not having that solution get mad at RIM not Cingular...... :!:
Re: that's certainly a part of it...
Well I have the desktop software in english and just installed the german software on my sx66. I think I got it to connect but its hard to tell. Iwonder if there is any other software out there....

Damm, I actually just found the software for 2.0 software for Tmobile UK. Now it only gets an IP address for two seconds then looses it. I think its the same problem I had with my p910a I can't get the server to recognize it.
Please prove me wrong!
Figure out how to make this work, and you'll be the hero of every Cingular / SX66 user on this board!
I am getting much closer now, I hacked (hex edit) one of the dll files to point to an IP address of 206.51.26.192 instead of 206.51.26.189. I know the .192 is the right address from my old blackberry. Now I actually stay live on the APN with an IP address and everything, where before I would get one for a second and get kicked out. I think it's a matter of registering it now. If anyone wants to try this dll, replace the one in the windows directory. Also I will upload the version of blackberry connect I am using... Please try as well...
Here is the dll I mentioned...replace this with the one in windows directory
Seem s like you are getting somewere on this issue.
Feel like writing a How to so that we can post it on wiki?
If you need help PM me I can also move what ever files that you like on the FTP site.
Thanks, just haven't gotten it to work totally yet, but that may just need a call to Tmobile to ask them to set it up. I have made progress in the fact that my blackberry.net apn now stays connected, where before it would disconnect after a minute or two. I think I am half way there. Need some more people to play around who have tried before to see if they get anywhere...
Can you also post the desktop software version you're using?
There hasn't been a recent posting of the BB Config software in quite some time...
Thanks!
It's too large, check the ftp server. look for somethign called bb_desktop_sw_mda3_20.exe It's up there somewhere.... poke around uploads as well...
Oh wait... I got it from tmobile directly, hehehe...
http://www.t-mobile.de/business/blackberry/smallbusiness/1,8236,8577-_,00.html
So you're using the German version?
Make it work, and I won't care what language it's in!
I agree, first I tried the german one, before I found the Tmobile Uk one. Did you try downloading everything and installing?
yup...
still can't make it work on my end... although I haven't changed anything in Hex...
Try the dll I fixed up also, let me know if it makes any difference....

Blackberry ROM upgrade and problems with Activesync

I've upgraded to the latest ROM version and tried to get set up with blackberry, but I can't as I'm on a o2 online tariff unless I change to a normal o2 tariff. I'm in discussions about this at the moment, but that is not the problem as such.
The problem is that because I've installed the BB ROM version but not activated it, when I sync to my PC I get all the options (email, contacts, etc, etc) but NOT the CALENDAR! The option is now greyed out as it expects you to use BB to sync the calendar! I only noticed the problem of not syncing the calendar last night when I created a new appointment on my PC but it didn't copy to my PDA. Everything else works fine.
I've tried both 3.8 and 3.7.1 activesync and soft reset the PDA loads of times to no avail. If you also have the problem there isn't much more you can do without reverting the ROM.
I've spoken to o2 the support and they were only made aware of the bug this morning and expect to have a new ROM in the next few weeks and are advising people in the same boat to wait rather than trying to downgrade to the previous ROM version
The old Online Thing
Well I took the online thing to the top and they are now moving me to a normal Tarriff adn giving me 3 months free blackberry, and they are now looking into why the Online Billing system wasn't updated to allow blackberry as an add on.
My trick was to look at mmO2.com take a list of the top names, then [email protected] and CC them / web care / data team / [email protected] Within in 3 hours I had a call from the Customer Care Exec and things where rolling.
Should be sorted by tomorrrow morning I hope, I wonder if they will be putting blackberry on the XDA EXEC? If they do I had a look in the O2 shop today and it does look shhwwwweeeettttt.

Cool - can you email me the details and I'll have a go at them as well. I'm a bit annoyed to say the least as I bought this instead of a blackberry as they said it would be enabled for blackberry shortly, they forgot to mention there would be a restriction on they tariff!
Once the upgrade is complete I will give you the Customer Exec Number and they will be able to help you.
Its taken best part of a day for the transfer waiting for the GPRS TO come online now so I'd rather wait till I ahve BB working fully
Also I noticed they took off the Inernet Mail PDF from the MY-XDA Website as well because of all of this.

Blackberry costs
Hi
Does anyone who was on a normal voice plan and has added blackberry know how much it costs to do so?
thanks
Dan
ps. the calendar synchronizes fine with exhange server (without blackberry)... so must be an issue with the local pc...
Ok I think I may have made a mistake by registering for www.o2email.co.uk and now I can't get my BES to work with the handset?
Any Ideas?
Cheers

Now had BB authorised after having to switch to a 'High St' tariff from an 'online tariff'.
The cost is a standing charge of £15 per month on top of my normal monthly tariff for a limited amount of data per month. If you go over you data amount, additional charges are made per Mb. Have to see what my monthly charges are going to be like when the bill arrives.
When you get BB authorised, you set up your email details via a web page - you can also put in filters to stop spam from being forwarded to your XDA although they will still go to your normal email client on your PC.
Now have the calendar sync'ing to my PC with BB enabled. There is a bug with the o2 ROM version which disables the calendar when you install the BB software (not when you flash this ROM version).
I was sent a work around while a new ROM is being written. The only problem is if you soft reset the XDA, you have to follow the work around to re-enable the calendar sync again.

Academic Question: Work Email & Tilt

Here is my situation: I have a Tilt & a Work Blackberry.
My company won't allow me to push my work email the Tilt so I'm forced to carry both... I want to get rid of the Blackberry.
What, in the community's opinion is the best way to do that? I'd be making an end run around security, so this is academic in nature. XPressMail? Just auto-forward my mail? Something else?
Just looking for inputs, thank you!
Do you have Exchange at work?
Is webmail enabled?
If so, just try to point the tilt to the same URL, and it will probably work.

The tilt is capable running BlackBerry Connect so that you can connect to BES servers and get your push email on. You should check into that and chuck that BB to the side.
BlackBerry Connect
Use BlackBerry Connect on the Tilt and change your BlackBerry PIN to the the Tilt BlackBerry PIN. I think there are threads on xda addressing this.
yes, there are threads showing you that BBC will work on the Tilt.
I am in the exact same situation. I tried BBC, but it burns thru battery on my Kaiser, way too quickly, even if throttled only to Edge. It also made my Kaiser much slower
So, I use Seven push email software's beta version. I have a long post on one of the BBC threads explaining Seven's benefits. I love it. It does require me to have my work PC connected to the network at all times though. But it works quite well. Its much more stable than Cingular's XpressMail is (Xpress Mail is using the old Seven software). And it doesn't use SMS triggers. It's true push.
Search for "Blackberry Connect" and "Seven" on this forum for the threads in question.
Can you forward your email from your outlook on your desk to a pop mail account your tilt checks every 15 minutes?

That's a guaranteed smackdown from IT if discovered at most companies. Many of us are stuck with Blackberry for this reason.
(Or in my case, None since my company will not permit personally owned Blackberry devices.)

MDA Vario III + Hotmail Push email problems

Hi all,
first of all big thanks to all the guys on here, my MDA is nearly how i would like it to be using some of the information from here, great work and keep it up, donations sent to those deserving!
I am using the latest version of windows live mail (10.6.33.0600 thanks duttythroy!) but not matter how i put the settings (currently as items arrive and alway) email tends to have a mind of its own as to wether it is forward automatically or not. seams to work for a while they just stop forwarding, anyone else had/having/resolved these probelsm?? Access is via tmobile web'n'walk unlimited access.
cheers
Matt

yup works every now n then for me too
Yep... Me too
Also having Hotmail and Windows Live problems. So much so that I am seriously considering downgrading to the new BlackBerry, just to be able to stay online and keep my emails and MSN chats available.
Anyone know how to rectify this problem before I go the route of BlackBerry???
PS. I received a email from my mate saying that Yahoo has some or other version of push mail available, if that helps. Got the link somewhere, aint tried it yet as it dont help me with my current email accounts.
I'm probably headed down the same route. One of the primary reasons I decided on the Vario III was for email capabilities and viewing Excel files at work but so far it's been nothing but a disappointment.
Syncing constantly fails. Sometimes my inbox comes back with nothing in it. I haven't managed to download a single attachment successfully, pdf, xls or doc. This is ridiculous.
Microsoft Push Email
I phoned my service provider as my Vario ii came with BlackBerry connect software, but I never bothered with it until I got the Vario iii and started having all these problems. Long story short, they say you cant use the BB software or service unless its with a BB. BUT... they said something about Microsoft Push Email... Which I am on the phone to them now to find out about, but the TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT WONT PICK UP THE PHONE!!!!!!!!!!
Update: There is nothing that these ppl can do to get me what I want, so... What I ended up doing, and its costing me a few quid a month, which is worth it, is set up a NEW PUSH ACCOUNT with my website. So far, it seems to be working.
But, I am also told, for you Hotmail users, that if you upgrade to Hotmail PLUS, that it might also support the push option. Not sure yet, going to try find out now. If you are like me that lives for email on the go, (well, only recently that is) then it might be worth spending the extra cash. Will be in touch to let you know what else I find out...
No good news to report
Ok guys... I tried almost everything. I dunno if its the Windows Live Software or the T-Mobile Internet Connection, but even after I signed up for a PUSH EMAIL from my website hosting provider, I still get SYNC ERRORS or SENDING MESSAGE ERRORS, so Im putting it down to one of 2 things... A consistant connectivity problem with either the Vario 3 or with the Service Provider, in my case T-mobile.
Which makes my next statement rather contradictory. I am getting rid of the Vario 3 and replacing it with the new BlackBerry Curve 8300, but sticking with my T-Mobile contract (kinda because I still have a year left on it) I will also be upgrading my current contract to provide me with the BlackBerry Service, which pushes up my monthly tariff but, saves me from Burst Blood vessels and anurisms in the brain, when the emails wont send or retrieve.
I weighed up the pro's and con's of the BB and the Vario3. Sure the Vario3 has more features and the touch screen and so on, but the BB doesn't have a sliding keyboard which could potentially wear out (Like on my Vario 2 from constant use) Its thinner than the Vario3 and way lighter.
This is not a product review, I guess, so if anyone out there knows why I shouldn't make the swap, please let me know asap before I go ahead and do it.
Take in to consideration that reliable email service and connection is mostly what I am after.
Good News... sort of
My email has been holding sold for a few days, since my last post. That is with the PUSH EMAIL I set up from my website.
The other thing that I thought was rather interesting, was that I removed Windows Live and Messenger from the SETTINGS, SYSTEM, REMOVE PROGRAMS. But... Its still on my Vario iii even though it shows that it was removed and... I have yet to have a SYNC FAILURE message. It seems to be working brilliantly.
So, in conclusion, decided to keep the Vario iii especially since doing some surfing and finding some awesome accessories aswell as Games like Quake and Duke Nukem to play on it.
Have fun and good luck.
hotmail - vario 3 - pop3 imap help!!!
I am also tearing my hair apart with my vario 3 trying to get my email. I have hotmail plus surely that should do the trick....
has anyone bottomed out what the problem is? Could be of interest but my work TMob account (uk) synced fine to hotmail/push email up until the other day.
my boss emailed me the other day saying that he'd just opened his bill and found that my months access charges was £800 as web and walk wasnt enabled on the account. which it is now.
so, in summery my hotmail syncing was fine when i wasnt on web and walk. but it 90% fails to connect now its on web and walk. (not tried pop/imap yet though, just push/normail windows live setup.

Touch Diamond + 3 UK + Windows Messenger Free

The Three network is offering free access to Windows Live Messenger on their handsets, and I'm considering switching to them on PAYG.
I'm curious as to whether this will be possible on the HTC Touch Diamond. Will the pre-loaded Windows Live Messenger application on the Diamond be accessible for free, or would standard data charges apply (as it is not a 3 branded version of the messenger app)?
I contacted Three, but they simply stated the device would not work on their network, despite the fact many people use it on 3, and the settings for the network are also pre-loaded onto the device.
Is anyone able to shed any light onto the matter?
Thanks in advance for any replies,
David.
If I remember correctly, the app used by 3 is different to the official messenger app. So using the normal app would likely cause data charges.
*Update* Scrap that, it appears it may work as microsoft says that messenger use is free http://windowsliveformobile.com/en-gb/3/default.aspx
I guess it's a matter of trying it and seeing what happens
I am also looking at 3uk payg at the moment.
To use msn for free you need to use their special app which won't run on windows mobile. 3 actually sell/sold the Kaiser but say that it doesn't support the free msn. I don't think the free skype will work either.
The free 150mb of data per topup will still give you a lot of messenger use though.
I'll probably be switching over in about a month, so would apreciate you posting if you do find out for certain before then.

The network I'm with is closing on the 26th August this year, so I won't be switching 'till then.
I think this is going to be pretty hard to find out. As you said, 150mb is a lot of messenger use, so I'll have to use up all the allowance before I can check.
Still, I'll give it a go and see what happens. Even if it's not free, it's still a better deal than any other network is offering at present in the UK for PAYG.
I am also a Blyk refugee. Asda seem to be the cheapest for calls and texts, but the long lasting freebies on 3uk are swinging me that way - and 3g so faster as well.
I may have been wrong about skype. Reading in the kaiser section it seems that iskoot will allow you to make use of skype. Someone has made a cab which sets it up for 3, but I haven't found a definitive answer. I may try PMing some of the 3 users on here in a few days.
