Hi All,
I've installed HTC Random Access and it does replace WM6 contact manager for the phone application (and soft-key on Today screen). How can I force it to replace the "contact manager" when sending Text / E-mail messages? It still uses the WM std. one, which has the top row with A-Z instead of the right column?
Thanks!
did you make the registry change that makes radomaccess become the default contact manager, or did you just install the RA cab file?

I just installed the CAB. Couldn't find the registry changes necessary. Searched the forum with google, but only could find the registry keys needed after failed uninstall... Can you (re?)-post the keys needed? Point me to the right place please??
Thanks!

Hi:
I'd love to get random access working in sms contacts also.
I made the following reg edit after installing random access, and mine does not work in sms contacts either. Am I missing another edit which needs to be made?
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:M SCONTACTS]
1="\Windows\RandomAccess.exe"
Thanks!
Works on phone, not on SMS
Still, after trying all registry keys I could find, none would make poutlook and tmail use the "default" contact manager (RandomAccess). I had the 1 = RandomAccess after installing the cab and it works both on Today and Phone, but not from tmail/poutlook... Maybe they runs it's own contact manager and doesn't even look for the system standard??
yep, I just tested it too, when adding a contact to a sms/mms/email it uses a bulit-in call to the contact database and doesn't use the default contact app to display it. I've seen other apps do the same thing, they just make use of the contactDB.

I tried finding the registry entry that was used in the Hermes WIKI on here but the folder to change the entry didn't exist! What should I do to remove the "SMS Sent" message! No point in seeing its sent if I'm going to get a message saying if it didn't send.
I just used tweaks 2k2 to do it (free trial for 3 uses, but that was really the main reason i put it on)
I couldn't find the reg entry either
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings] "SMSNoSentMsg"= dword:00000001 ->1 to disable
That keys not there. I even created the key in there but it didn't do any good, I still get the SMS message sent notification.

Then you did not create the key correctly.
Make sure you Create Settings in your Inbox folder. Inbox is there for sure.
Then in Settings create a DWORD, and set value to 1.
Tweaks 2k2 worked
and HTweakC_2.1b do this change to registry and lot of others.and is free !
you get an error message in kaiser when you open the programme but changing the settings, all the hacks that the programme change, stick there as good as in hermes
For some reason my mail icon on the HTC home screen occasionally launches SMS/MMS. It seems to happen only after I launch SMS using the text message button. Is there a way to make the mail icon permanently launch Outlook, and the text message icon permanently launch SMS, like it should work? Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I have found a solution!!!
1 - Make sure the "E-Mail Sample" account is deleted out of your accounts.
*** NOTE: If you don't delete this account first, this fix won't work! Changing the registry key below won't work. The only thing you can do is hard reset. I found that out the hard way. At least that's how it worked for me.
2 - Make sure Outlook is set up to check your mail
3 - Using a registry editor, go to HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Home, and change "AlwaysOpenMailFolder" from 1 to 0.
Using the above solution, the Outlook icon should ALWAYS open Outlook, and the SMS icon should ALWAYS open SMS.
I had this issue when I disabled "Display account picker when opening Messaging".
If this is disabled I would suggest enabling it and seeing if you still have this problem, although I didn't suffer from this randomly occuring, mine always went through to SMS after disabling this.
The option is available in messaging under
Menu -> Tools -> Options

Yea, Ive tried that. The only problem is that if I re-enable that option, then I have to choose Outlook from the list. I just want to click the icon and go straight to Outlook e-mail.
Sorry Mike - I didn't mean to post in Kaiser Upgrading.
Anyone else have this same problem with the Outlook icon?
Same thing here
Running the HTC Rom. Does this work correctly for anyone, where you hit the Outlook button and it opens Outlook, and SMS/MMS opens the correct folder?

No, I seem to have the same issue.
I have seen this on all WM6 roms I have used on Hermes and Kaisers
So there's no way to force it to always open Outlook? There has to be a reg tweak or something. Maybe there is a way to change that icon's path so that it points to Outlook. If someone knew where that icon's path was stored, maybe we could look at it in Resco and see what it points to.
Anyone else have ideas?
I don't know how to fix it, but I can add this - it takes me to the account I last had open when I go to Messaging. So if I was last in the GMail account, that's where I land.
Yea that's true. But the design is just akward. I mean, the SMS icon ALWAYS takes you to SMS, without exception. But the Outlook icon just opens up the last messaging app you used? Weird. I need quick access to Outlook every time HTC!
Here, copy and paste this in notepad and make a new link the way you did the SMS one and it should take you to the outlook inbox. -
99#\Windows\tmail.exe -service "ActiveSync" -to "" -body ""

Great! I actually used:
99#\Windows\tmail.exe -service "ActiveSync"
because the whole thing was taking me to a new outlook message. By only using the above it takes me to the Outlook Inbox directly every time even if I had previously chosen SMS/MMS.
So, now the question is, how do I remap the Outlook icon on the home screen so that it uses this new path? Any ideas?

It's actually supposed to open a new email message, but so is the SMS one and it still only takes you to the inbox so I didn't figure it needed to be edited. Glad you figured out how to edit it though.

That I don't know, I don't even like the HTC home app so I never use it. I'm guessing it has an xml file somewhere that if you find it you'll be able to edit the icon to point to that link, but I could be wrong. Somewhere on here theres an app that will allow you to edit the look of HTC home, I think it's in the development and hacking forum in the top area of xda-devs (hopefully you understand where I mean) and you might try asking the developer of that app if he could help you change that, or at least tell you where you can change it and how to do it.
Yea, I messaged the developer and haven't heard back. Anyone have any other ideas on this?

jackjohnson or xeno1: Can a similar approach be used to get a "single click" shortcut on the today screen that opens a new, blank SMS? If so please provide just a bit more detail. I tried the procedure above just to see if I could get it to work and nothing I tried did anything. Thanks in advance.

I'm honestly not sure, but have you tried something like this?:
99#\Windows\tmail.exe -service "SMS" -to "" -body ""
or
99#\Windows\tmail.exe -service "MMS" -to "" -body ""
or some variation thereof?
No

Thanks for the tip. I have not tried it as I am unsure of the basic method. Do I copy an existing shortcut .lnk file and edit the location it goes to or do I make a text file with this content and then rename the file and extension.

You could do that. I personally just make a text file with this information in Notepad. Make sure to choose "Save As Type: All Files", and for the filename, make sure you end it with ".lnk". Then copy that file to your PPC (usually to "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\" - which will show up in the programs list). From there, just tap it once and it should run.
Since you're a noob at shortcuts (as I am too), you may want to create a test shortcut that you KNOW works, like the one I made:
99#\Windows\tmail.exe -service "ActiveSync"
That should launch Outlook. This will just give you a feel for whether or not you've got the shortcut thing down. Once that works, you know you're doing it right. I only say to do this because if your shortcut is invalid, it usually won't do anything when you click it (no errors, nothing), so it's hard to tell if you got it wrong.
Also, I just did a search. I haven't looked at all these threads, but have you guys seen them? They are all related to SMS shortcuts. They may be able to help you all:

Ok, for you SMS shortcut guys, I tested this shortcut and it works. Turns out it was:
99#\Windows\tmail.exe -service "SMS" -to ""
You can create your own shortcut, or use the one I uploaded. You can rename the file to whatever you want (the shortcut filename is how it actually appears in the menu). If you stick it in "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs", then you can add it to Start Menu using the "Menus" control panel app, and it will always be right there when you want to do a new SMS.
Hey all,
so i have two very strange issues...
1. Bluetooth OBEX - I can send FROM the phone to any device (That supports it) but I cannot send anything TO the phone from any device. Typically i will get a generic "Device does not support OBEX" error message
-- I have tried sending paired, and not paired
-- I have verified that filesharing is on, and all of my bluetooth options are enabled
2. SMS's not in order - When I installed my current rom (see my sig) And used PIM restore to put my SMS's back, they are not in the order that the conversation happened. If you look @ each day. the messages appear their's first for the day, then mine... its kinda weird.
-- In some instances I dont even see the messages that were sent to me. When I tried making PIMBackup to restore the messages again it said they were already there. I have received some new SMS"s that I dont want to wipe out if I can avoid it but i've never seen this before and it makes no sense
Another thing.. where do I edit the size of text on context menu's ? (asside from the start menu which was using LargeStartMenu)

Hi there,
1.Not all devices are bluetooth 2.0 compliant and I have the same problem sending from older devices.
2. SMS's order can be set in main screen. Select Received on top right
3.Text size can be changed under Start>Settings>System>Screen
There is a tab for font size at the bottom with a slide bar. I have set mine to 2nd last notch from right.
Hope this helps.

Hey MAC, thanks for the reply
for the bluetooth item, this is from my brand new dell laptop or even another att tilt. Even my friends 8125 that was working on some other roms i have problems with now.
the SMS issue is not on the inbox screen its on the actual message history screen. So if I click on an item in my inbox it brings up the coversation thread. In there it shows all of my friends messages first then the ones I sent in reply so instead of .... them... me .. .them.. me. its them... them.. them.. me .. me.. me ... its kind of weird
I had already checked the text size on the screen page. It was set to normal, but the menu's are still huge (see screenshot)

I see re the bluetooth issue. Nt sure as my laptop sends and receives fine from my TyTN II.
If you are using threaded sms then I can't help as I have normal one.
I see you are also using WK Task which comes with the Kaiser. I have removed that and opted for Quickmenu. It is MUCH better, smaller and gives you cascading menus like in Windows XP/Vista. It is also freeware. (File attached). Just place all the files in the zip archive to a folder anywhere on your device, create shortcut if you want, but I suggest you place a shortcut in the startup folder.

Yah I've been working on the BT issue since yesterday with no luck
I am using threaded SMS which is why its annoying me that the messages are not appearing in order...
I use WK task in tandem with QuickMenu... I love quick menu, but I still cant figure out how to fix the font sizes... its every context menu not just the tray apps... even my resco context menu is huge and i have to scroll it to do stuff its kind of irritating
Thanks for the suggestions tho, I hope someone has a solution for me, I really like this rom and dont want to change it

Yup when I restore my Messages its not in order. I truly believe its because of how PIM restores the Messages. All Received First Then all Sent. So to the Device it IS in order. I've posted this thought in the PIM Backup thread. I don't think they've got it figured out yet. Sorry.

Actually I just finished fixing the PIM Backup issue too.. its kind of a known issue with 6.1 If you restore everything but your messaging DB. Clear your messaging DB in the messaging app. Terminate the messaging app process then run PIM restore... run the messaging app and let it rebuild the threads it seems to work.. Also make sure that you set your regional date settings to what your normally set it to BEFORE you run PIM backup... some people believe that this may also be the issue.... so process is...
1. Flash
2. Restore all of your data using PIM backup EXCEPT messages
3. Open messaging and clear your SMS boxes
4. Terminate the messaging application
5. Do your PIM Restore
6. Open mesaging
Worked for me!
1 more issue to go and thats the large menu font size!

Yup that only works 40% of the time for me.
I've read numerous posts about how to change the default SMS/TEXT program via registry edit.
At this location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSINBOX
and point that data to your texting program (instead of default value of tmail.exe).
(I've also searched the entire registry for any other links to tmail.exe).
However, this doesn't change what CHome/Titanium uses as its text program. And I've looked in the registries for CHome and could not find anywhere how it calls the texting program. I've also read the other post about NeoTitanium (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502504) and used the same keys and did not find anything for changing the texting/messaging program for CHome. Any help? Thanks.
So basically, I'm using VITO SMS and I changed the default texting program to that, and yes without CHome it would work fine, but the problem is CHome's texting tab points to tmail.exe regardless of what I set the default program to, and I can't find how to change that.
That would most likely require making a custom plugin like HTCSMSMMS from the smart phone. The built in messaging plugins (CHome/CText/CMessage/ETC) use cmhome.dll to get that data. It's control by the GUID that way.
Lo all, I know you'll probably say 'use the search function' but I have and can;t find and full answer.
Question:
Is there a way to fully disable HTC messaging and not just so you can press the all messages buttonand see windows messaging program.
So if you are on Sense Messaging tab and you recieve a message from someone, you can click on it and it will take you to WM threaded messages for that person?
Hope someone can clear this up, I'm so confused with what these 'disable HTC messaging' actually do and how much they actually disable.

I advise you XannyTech roms without HTCMessaging
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=565290
But these still have HTC messaging when you click on the SMS. I have been using Xanny's ROMS.
The only WM messaging they have is when you click on 'all messages' button.

He says he have 4 Versions:
With HTC Messaging
Without HTC Messaging
With HTC MESSAGING + MSVC
Without HTC Messaging + MSVC
I suggest to check or learn before you write things which are not true.
Without HTC Messaging means, that default SMS program is not HTC Messaging. However this program is called by other Manila's features. For example contacts from Call History. Once run, you can have possibility to switch into SMS of the person etc etc.
Note, that WM has build in call history, contact list etc - those features are still not replaced making HTC messaging stil alive.
HOwever, versions 'without HTC messaging' has the same functionality as stand alone mod: replaces all HTC Messaging shortcuts found in system by Mobile Outlook. And yes, it calls MO while hitting SMS from Manila SMS tab.
Well I'm using a without ROM and have on several occasions, they do not call the WM threaded sms from Sense SMS Tab when you click on a message. They still call HTC messaging.
Only when you click on 'All messages' does it launch outlook.
I would like to know if there is a way to call WM Threaded SMS program from HTC SMS Tab when you click on a persons sms.
