I have searched w/o results.
When deleting a file on my storage sd card, I simply hold the styles down on it and select "delete". Is it that simple or is there another place it is stored that I need to go remove? The reason I ask is that being a new tilt owner, I am trying out different program/files to see which ones I want to keep. So I am adding and deleting files. I do understand that if it is a file that I am wanting to delete, I need to go to add & remove programs etc. Just looking for a way to COMPLETLY remove a file or program from my tilt once I decide to remove it w/o doing a hard reset.
Also seems like most of the time I check task manager on the top right corner, I noticed that the act syn is running, how do I keep this from running in the background. I keep stopping it but it seems to running when I check it later. I do have kaisertweak installed.
thanks
Scott

deleting e file and removing a program are two different things. wich one u are asking about?
deleting a file!
Just want to make sure of how to completely delete a file?
Windows Mobile is not like the desktop versions of Windows when it comes to deleting. The file is not sent to any sort of recycle bin. Once you delete it in the way you described, it is gone.
Thank you for your response
Scott
Resco explorer adds a "recycle bin" feature when u remove items using the program if you want one

Hi
After restoring a backup, my device now has a few programs listed twice in the programs folder - eg I get Internet Explorer and Internet Explorer (1).
Where about is this programs list maintained so I can zap the offending dupes?
(The recently-used list had some too but I found those in the registry.)
Thanks!
device/windows/start menu
Sorry, can't find it that way
EDIT: Found it, sorry, being a fool I was looking thru the registry, then realised you meant thru the file system!
Remove Software
According to the MS website follow the below instructions. (cut and paste from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/pocketpc/installremovesoftware.mspx
Remove Your Software
From your device:
Tap Start > Settings.
Tap the System tab.
Tap Remove Programs.
In the list of installed programs, select the program you want to remove.
Tap Remove.
A warning message will appear to ask if you really want to remove the program.
Tap Yes.
Hope it helpss.
Thanks,
Bobby
Nope, I think the correct way is to use file explorer to remove the duplicate shortcut links located in the Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder. That's where the links are.
Removing the whole program will most likely be not what you were looking to do...
Indeed - removing the programs isn't what I wanted to do.
I've now got rid of the duplicate shortcuts and it's a bit tidier.
Thanks for the tips.
Well yea... that is easier
So you wanted the easy way???
Good day all. I have spent three days reading this forum, great stuff. I bought the SK Tooks program and have deleted the PTT button per another thread. I have also set up the internet sharing like my 8525 per another post, many thanks for all the above.
One I did not find. I want to delete unneeded programs and games. I am on the AT&T ROM. When I go to Settings|Programs|remove Programs, only a few are shown. I would like to delete the following:
Programs|
Media Net Home
AT&T Mall
AT&T Music
Cellular Video
Push To Talk
Programs|Games & Apps
Get TelNav
MobilTV
Plus a few others probably. Am I out of luck?
From what I understand those things are on the ROM and can't be removed unless you flash the ROM with something else.
Actually, all the bloatware programs are in the menu you accessed. But, you apparently overlooked the sub-menus. Go back to the Window directory and with a little searching, you will find them and be able to delete.
Also, for the sample games, open the Java folder and there is an option under menu to remove all of the files.
Some people have gotten around this by doing a hard reset, then before the AT&T customization starts, do a soft reset. I used this method, however, I still found all the .exe's still in the file system, so I still had to do some deleting. Until I get situated with flashing a ROM, this is probably still the best way to go, but I feel the dark side pullin me in slowly but surely. Too bad MS (and hardware manufacturers in kind) have yet to figure out that the way to sell something is not to stick a bunch of annoying trial crap in your face, but to actually offer some compelling features. It irks me that I have to spend hours cleaning up the mess that they made. Don't we get enough junk mail/ spam/ TV Ads/ web popups, etc, etc, etc?
Trial ware is easy money for most hardware manufacturers. They get paid for loading that crap on your device and try to spin in to their users like they are trying to help them.

Did that. I lost MS-Office which is an important program to me.
Okay, a different angle, is there a way I can remove the icons in the menus to clean up the way the menus look nd keep scrolling to a minimum. Then I could just leave the programs.
Any ideas. I have SK Tools to edit the resistry.
I did the soft reset after hard reset trick, and I did not loose Mobile Office. Try again.
removal instructions...
if you did a soft reset before the customazition starts..i recommend that you do another hard reset and don't stop the regular projess. the customazitions has important files that we need as well...so just do a hard reset and follow the instruction belove.. I got the solution for you to stop showing the broken links.
I am on att as well..so on my tilt. here is what i did..
first to gain at least 10mb I deleted the files under documents/myringtones..and the trial games are under java ..programs/tools/java and delete them on options..
here is the big trick you are asking..if you wanna delete them from the programs menu..you don't need the registry edit programs..
just go to windows/start menu/programs//// and delete any program you don't want to show on programs folder...it will look much cleaners...after all the processes i gained 15mb of storage memory..
good luck
When I tried to delete unwanted bloatware, I was unable to. I even check properties using Total Commander and tried unsetting the read-only attribute, no go. How do you guys do this?
to delete unwanted icons from the program menu go to
/windows/start menu/programs
then just delete whichever icons are associated with the demo games you deleted.
Can somebody explain why would you suggest manually deleting the files and applications as opposed to doing the "reset" method after doing a hard reset?
Am I missing something by doing the "reset" method?
OK, so it seems that just about every time i want to uninstall/upgrade a program on my tilt (not cracked, only bypassed the att crapification...er, customization).
what happens is, certain programs (most recently cetwit) will not fully uninstall when i goto remove them from remove programs. it says this and asks if i wish to remove the program from the list of installed programs, and i usually say yes. that program is still listed when i goto start/programs, and the program files are still safe and secure in the program files folder through file explorer.
the worst part is, when i try to reinstall/install an updated version, it shows two icons in my programs list, which is very frustrating...enough so that it causes me to hard reset and reinstall everything over again. i've run registry and junk file cleaners to no avail.
is there any way to COMPLETELY remove a program in this situation, or am i required to hard reset each time it happens?
maybe here i will also ask for a good registry cleaner that knows what to kill and what to leave...
sktools wiped out some important things, had to hard reset and start over because even my backup app couldnt fully recover.
Get a file explorer, delete the program's folder in Program files, delete the shortcut in the start menu and most of it is done. You can then use a reg cleaner to remove the last remains in the registry.
That has happened to me with a couple of programs, I'd blame the programs rather than WM.
I have a similar issue. I've removed the program folders, shortcuts, registry entries, etc. but the programs still appear in the remove programs list under settings / system. Although it's not causing me any problems per se it is really annoying. If anyone knows how to fix it I'd love to know.
on pc's the list in add/remove
is
located in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
would asume that they are stored in reg on pda's too
I've had that happen a few times also, what usually fixed it besides manually deleting the folders and shortcuts, is to remove it in add/remove programs in activesync. Just check the box that says to delete from handheld and desktop.
I've tried that - using AS to remove the applications - but it still doesn't work. They all show up with a size of 0.0K but removing the tick in the box and selecting the remove from both device and computer option does nothing - they still show up in the list on both devices.
I have uninstalled programs and still have them in my add remove program list how do I remove them?
Is it in the registry i have tried everything and no luck thanks.

what program exactly, because I believe that some of them have this problem
programs
MAME CE3 and Concrete software bowling, i have uninstalled them no problem but it wont remove the from the add remove list and i dont know how to, thanks.
In similar cases, I use SKTools, an excellent program.
Here is the link http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?sktools/m_feat.html
I want to know why certain programs don't uninstall 100% even when it was installed and uninstalled correctly meaning the name still shows in the list as installed and there's no file traces left.
I have installed the SK Tools, but I cant seem to find how to do it, any instruction or fixes pls, thanks
In the registry, HKLM\Software\Apps if I remember well.
nope, apps still showing in "remove programs list" even though they were uninstalled like anything else

Before starting, I would recommend a backup, just in case.
On the main SKT opening screen, go to
- left soft key "Category"
- select "Maintenance"
- select "Installed Programs"
- after a short search, SKT displays the list of all your installed apps
- when you point your stylus on the app you want to completely delete, you will see all its installed components in the lower half of the screen (a good thing at this point is to make a screen capture so in the worst case you can manually delete the remains, but normally it shouldn't be necessary, SKT usually doing a better removal job than the default remover)
- make sure that all boxes are unchecked, except the one you want to delete, and then go to left soft key "Action" and select "Uninstall marked".
I always just go into File Explorer/Windows/Start Menu/Programs
Then remove broken links from there.
He means removing the entries from the add/remove programs panel, not the start menu.
Tried this and no go any other ideas guys, the sk tools might be ok if i had programs installed, i might install them again and then uninstall via sktools see how that goes. any other ides.
sktools can remove it, but it is always on uninstall list!!

I have found the solution to the various posts listed on not being able to get rid of an uninstalled prog in the remove progs window. Using MemMaid 2.3 go jump to/databases/database usage, highlight SwMgmtMetadataStore and click browse, highlight offending entry and delete it. Then do and soft reset and you will find that the prog is no longer in the remove prog window. Hope this helps.
I know at least one of you have installed a program before on your Kaiser/Smartphone that wasn't able to be found in the "Remove Programs" option under settings.
I'm havin' this problem with a program called "TopOCR-Mobile LE."
It was an .exe file that had to be installed on the device. So I did, and now I can't seem to remove it. I deleted the .exe under program files, but the blank icons still remain (there's two of them 'cause I thought I could be smart and run the .exe twice and it'd ask if I would want to remove the program; it didn't - instead it just installed it TWICE).
Is there a way to remove those icons? I already used Regedit's and Total Commander's search features, but I couldn't find any files with the name "topocr" or "mtopocr" (it's installation name).
What are my options (besides throwing my Kaiser against the wall or hard resetting)?
Have you tryed to remove via active sync tools? If not in add remove programs and you think you got rid of it then go to Start Menu\Programs with Total Commander and delete the .lnk's
You could also look under HKLM\Software & HKu\Software to see if any REG left over.
Please be careful as we all know how the REG can be a dangerous place
If the icon you are speaking of is a shortcut under the Start Menu, or under Programs, then just browse to \Windows\Start Menu or \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and delete that .lnk file like stylez said.
Thanks guys. Removing the .lnk files got rid of it.
