Voicemail Number? Is it my cell phone number? or is it a weird one? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Ok in my speed dial i have a Voicemail number.. its a weird number, like a 772 area code number, When i call it goes to my voicemail.. Why? whos number is this (772)??
my Telephone number is a (305) number..
I am comming from sprint and my voicemail number was MY cell phone number in order to get to my voicemail.
Do i edit my option and change the number to call my cell phone number (305)???
OR do i keep the (772) number?? I am confused...? Either number i call it goes into my voicemail...
Ok, get this, when I go into my phone Settings > Services > Voice Mail and Text Messages... The numbers there are weird.. the voicemail is that (772) and the Text messages Service center is a weird (312) number.. Why??

that's normal for most US carriers now. If you call that number from a landline youwill see it takes you into the vmail system so you can retrieve your messages from a landline. It's going to be a different number depending upon what area you are in. Mine is 619-204-0806 and I use the phon ein 760 area code. 619 is probably San Diego and I live in the Palm Springs area which is a few hours away.

Oh Ok, I got it.. ... So should I just change the number under phone Settings to MY cell number? or keep that weird 772 number??
What do you think???
Also, I set up a password to my Voicemail, But when i call my voicemail from my Cell phone it doesnt ask for it, When I call that Weird (772) number from a land phone, it does ask for it..
Is there a way to get a password from my cell phone too??
Thank you

leave the 772 number, it's correct.
when you call in via the cell phone will never ask you for a password, it assumes that it's safe to allow the caller into vmail because they are calling from the cell number associated with vmail box. If you call from a landline, then it prompts the caller for a password.
Now, if I rememebr right (I was just playing around with this a few weeks ago), on ATT you can setup the vmail box to prompt for password from the cellphone also. Youwould need to go thru the vmail account options and see if there is an option for this. If you are on ATT I believe it's possible.

From prior experience in working for that POS company with that general vmail number you get charged minutes. But if u put in your own number as the vmail number it counts as mobile to mobile. Have fun!

Call Barring??? Anyone???

Hello,
can anyone shine some light??? I have the at&t TILT phone I want to block
ALL INCOMING CALLS, (call barring) to do so I would need a passcode that AT&T SAID THEY DONT HAVE!!!! Does anyone know the default code? has anyone used it before?
thanks
i am not pretty sure, but should be something like "1234" or "0000". except cases dat somebody [like i did] changed it! but i'm sure the operators can reset it to the default value, so make 1 more call
i also saw this option in some softwares, unfortunately i can't name 1 of'em rite now!
This isn't perfect, but it works okay:
http://www.logic-unlimited.com/callfirewall.php
If you can find any info on this let me know as I've been searching for this password for a long time with no results. AT&T says they don't have the barring password and to call HTC. HTC says its network dependent and the phone gets the feature list from the switch.
Good luck!
the pin is network dependent.
as long as you haven't changed it, for AT&T it is "1111".
Let us know how you get on.
The evil side of me says to just set forwarding to the AT&T customer service line...
Doesn't the second half of this
http://www.wireless.att.com/answer-..._dyncharset=UTF-8&solutionId=62179&isSrch=Yes
suggest you can enable call barring for incoming calls and leave outgoing normal? I didn't enable it, but I went through step 6 and got settings from the network. It gave incoming block options of All Calls, When Roaming, and Off.
1111 doesn't work on my Tilt on AT&T.

the default values are ALWAYS '0000'...just ask the call center of ur operator to confirm it with the Switch (also called NSS or MSS) department, may be the engineers have changed the default password in the HLR. call center guys dont know half of the things buddy

???my phone is calling my phone???

Ok guys.....I can't be the only one this has happened to. For the last week I have been getting somewhat random calls and caller id shows its my number. There are times when I happens right around a phone call but the phone has had root for 6 months...multiple roms flashed and never an issue till now. Running crc1 with cyan 4.0.4 build...themed with community hero. This is the second post about this....does someone know what's happening or how to fix it...thanks
its called someone is spoofing you with a spoof app of some sort heres a website about what its about.
basically youre being pranked
Here's the website
I appeciate the insight but I have that app and as far as I am aware you can't call a number with the same number.....it won't allow it. So I'm pretty sure that's not it.
Umm i dont think you understand completely.
Ok ....now I know its the phone ....noticed a pattern...it seems to do it right after someone calls but only rings a couple of times. And I'm not sure what it is I don't understand.

Say Dave doesn't like Jay and wants to prank call him.
He uses SpoofApp or the equivilant service to call him.
To use this service all you need to do is enter the number you would like to call and the number that you would like to show up on the recievers callerID.
Jay recieves a call from the number that Dave put in.
It could be just about any number and the only way that I know of for sure to tell who it is that's calling you is TrapCall.
Hope that clears it up.
Ya I hear you on that and I have used it......I'm not stupid. This is a phone issue. The calls are comming after a voicemail is left. What could the problem be. I'm not trying to be a jerk but the obivious solution is not allways the right one. Could someone give me an idea.
I agree with you oneyoungjay I have that app to and you can't put the number to call and the number to display at the same time. It will not allow it. I use the app pretty often.
My iPhone used to do this to me on t-mobile a few months ago, just like voicemails sticking, i solved it by leaving myself a voicemail. (and its actually a carrier issue, i believe)
try changing voicemail client to phonefusion for example. If its a carrier issue that should bypass it if not sorry...
Thanks .....ill try that a let you know if it worked.

Is Google Voice as good as I hear?

Can anyone give me a basic run down on the Google Voice interface. I have not been invited and am extremly curious if it is everything I have heard.A basic description would be great. Thanks in advance.
Whether it's "good" or not all depends on what you want from it.
GV gives you a new number, which can be in any area code, whether you live there or not. Changes to this number cost $10 later, but the first is free.
You have flexibility with GV to add your landline or even other cell phones to the account so that any or all receive the call when it comes in. You can set up a friend's landline as a temporary number, for example, if you have no cell signal at his place.
GV gives you voicemail with custom greetings for various contacts. I much prefer YouMail for this, but to each his own. In addition, you can set certain callers to go straight to voicemail or which phone rings when they dial your GV number.
GV allows you to screen calls *while* they're being recorded to voicemail. You can choose to "pick up" at any point.
You can also record calls in progress.
GV gives cheaper rates for international calls.
If you tell a bunch of people to call you at a certain time, you can add them to a conference call on the fly.
I'm sure there's something I've missed. It's a pretty flexible service. It allows your number to be tied to *you* rather than to any particular device or carrier.
Voicemails can be transcribed and sent as text in an e-mail.
http://www.google.com/googlevoice/about.html
I absolutely love it. I don't get reception in my office, so I use GV to route any calls to my cell during work hours to my desk phone and work cell. I use the GV number for situations where I don't want sales people calling my home or real cell and if I'm giving my number to someone I will most likely never see again
SMS free of charge was what brought me in - and the latest update to the app brings real-time syncing (previously the lowest possible refresh setting was 5 minutes). I already pay ATT for a data plan, why the hell should I have to pay an extra $15 for what amounts to a miniscule amount of data? Google Voice solved that problem.
I moved myself entirely over to GV, no one calls my actual cell number. I haven't had any significant issues so far, and I've been using it for half a year.
I only use it for the voicemail, which is more than enough reason to use it. You use your same phone number but get digital transcribed + audio voicemails with a very clean interface, also available on the web. You can set up sms and email notifications too.
The one drawback I can think of is this:
If you use GV completely, unless you have one of the unlimited plans from t-mobile (or your GV number set up under the old MyFaves plan) it uses minutes like any other call. No mobile-to-mobile anymore. Anybody care to back me up or refute this?

Really? Damn no wonder they got rid of MyFaves. They realized this and made a fix by removing it completely maybe. hahaha.
Have to admit I am payng ALOT 95/month for unlimited everything while my girlfriend pays only 50/month for the same thing with Boost.
The only thing with Boost is that the phones are trash.

Can you confirm that if you receive a phonecall out of state but receive or make a call through your Google Voice # it is still considered local??
I've had it for a while, but only just started using it on my phone, although my wife uses it to call back to england (nothing cheaper).
To get around it using minutes just figure out what local access number it is dialing, and add that to your fave fives (I'm on the original day one g1 contract still, so I still have fave fives)
For me the sms and vm management are the best things about it, but it's also nice to know I won't ever have to port a number over if I switch carriers

I'm not sure I understand the question. I live in Florida and have a GV number in Atlanta. Calls from Atlantans to my GV number are considered local for them.
And about MyFaves, I believe GV was the main reason tmo got rid of the plan. If you use GV for everything and have your GV number as one of your fave five, you'd use zero minutes from your bucket as far as tmo is concerned.

Mobile-to-mobile still applies for incoming calls (at least on ATT). I would imagine Tmobile (or any carrier) would work the same way.

Damn!! I got suckered into the "Loyalty Plan" now everyone and anyone can use the plan. I should of stuck with my MyFaves plan, worst mistake of my life taking this service off.
According to an APP i downloaded called GV dialer. apparently it will route your call through internet and not use your minutes when you dial.
now i dunno if thats true, but im testing it at the moment. but it makes my own google voice call me and then it calls the person i'd like to call.
and btw i love google voice ^^ great if you need a business number.

The only difference when calling between GVDialer and the official GV app is that GVDialer will count as an incoming call and Google's GV app will count as an outgoing call. So if you have free incoming it would be benificial to use GVDialer to make your phone calls.
Been using it for quite some time now.. mainly for the SMS feature.. too bad I can't send SMS to European numbers tried to SMS the in-laws using GV but no go..
I am now using GV as my work voicemail. Took a while to get our stubborn carrier to set up the No Answer/Busy forwarding, and I had to set my work number in GV as "mobile" to enable the forwarding options. The end result is that when I don't pick up my work number, the callers get forwarded to my GV voicemail.
The only drawback is that in Google Voice the greeting can only be set based on caller ID, so you can assign it to contacts and groups. This means that you cannot set a greeting based on which one of your numbers was called, i.e. you can't set a separate "work" greeting and assign it to your work number.
That reminds me...one thing I despise about GV is the inability to *upload* custom greetings. Their system of recording-from-the-handset-while-calling-in really blows.
That's why I prefer YouMail for voicemail. Its standard greeting greets your callers by name (if you have them in your contact list saved on YouMail's site).
heh, I was just looking for a way to upload greetings yesterday and found this out...
very disappointed, I was going to give each of my contacts their own private greeting - which would have really screwed with a couple of my friends

Google Voice - I'm pulling my hair out!

I need some help with GV, but I don't know if the problem is with my account or another GV account. Ok here's what is going on; my friend setup a GV number and account yesterday to use for our business and it goes straight to voicemail when *I* call it. One of our other friends called it sitting right next to us and his phone rings like normal. But I have been trying since last night and it has never rang once, it only says something like "the Google Voice subscriber is unavailable. He said this morning that no one at work is having any trouble with that number either, why is it just me?
We have the EXACT same settings on the app, the EXACT same settings on the web version, he can call my GV number and it rings just fine, I have called his GV number with my GV number AND my Verizon number. Nothing works and I have tried everything! Do Not Disturb is not checked, he has no special call settings for particular numbers, groups, days or times.
It's almost like it's blocking me automatically, but everyone else has no problem. I have had GV since it came out and have never had a problem before. Can anyone please help?
Try deleting your number then add it back.
I can't believe what it was, the only reason I don't feel totally dumb is because it was his fault. He had 2 of the numbers switched around when he texted the phone # to me. In his defense though, he did just get the new number that day. But still, I could've killed him.

Problems setting up Google Voice

This is the first time I am having an issue setting up Google Voice as my default voicemail. The last few phones I've used, an unlocked S8+ and most recently an AT&T locked Note 8 I have been offered the option to use GV as my voicemail when launching the GV app the first time, during the initial set-up I get a prompt. Now I have an unlocked Note 8 (US version purchased from Samsung) and I did not get the prompt. So I went to the GV setting on my pc and tried "activating" the voicemail by running the code for AT&T which is **004*1215839XXXX#, when I hit send I get the following error code (see attached). GV was deactivated on my previous Note 8, there is no additional setting under VOICEMAIL/SERVICE PROVIDER and I cannot change the call forwarding information, I get a error message "Failed to read data, unexpected response from network." I CAN change the actual number under VOICEMAIL SETTINGS but that doesn't seem to change anything. The number that was in there was the same as the Call Forward/Busy and unreachable which again I cannot change.
Any insight would be great, I did speak at length with AT&T which was fruitless, I would prefer not to punish myself with a call to Samsung.
Thanks in advance,
Quick update- I spoke with Samsung tech support and they had me try some of the same procedures I had already tried, rebooting phone, adding a comma or plus sign at the end of the string, etc. I also tried an alternative visual voicemail, You Mail and this also failed to run the MMI code. Samsung gave me a case number and want me to take the phone to a Best Buy to speak with one of their Samsung Experts, possibly for an exchange?? Maybe there is a hardware issue with the phone, seems unlikely but since no one else here seems to be having a problem it doesn't appear to be software.
I have the same issue. Please advise if you are able to resolve it.
I have Google Voice working on my Note 8 on T-Mobile, including all the conditional forwarding. BUT I had it all setup before I swapped the SIM card from my OnePlus 5 to the Note 8.
Maybe you could try to setup the conditional forwarding by putting the SIM card in another device?

I had another long conversation with Samsung support and I'll use support loosely, the nearest Best Buy with a Samsung expert was 2 hours away, and the woman was surprised when I laughed. While I've only had the phone for a week or so they will not exchange it but I can buy a new one and then send back mine or I can send in for repair...what a f'ing joke! I am curious if ANYONE with an unlocked US version can set up GV as the voicemail or an alternative like You mail. I can set up the AT&T visual voicemail and that's it. I'm beginning to think it's in the software of the US unlocked version.

Hi. I just switched to at&t. Despite the offer of GV to operate on my Note 8, it has never functioned. I've tried everything. I've used GV since it was first offered, and if I'd known the combo was a dud, I'd have kept t-mobile.
If you've figured it out, let me know. Doesn't seem to be a locked/unlocked issue as you thought.

I just bought a Note 8 on Monday, my google voice mail worked for 1 day I have messages in my google voice one day after I turned it on. Now it isn't working and I can't get it to. How can that be?
I have used GV for my VM since it came out as well.
The Note8 is the first phone I have had to configure manually for some reason. I have the Exynos from the UK and using on AT&T in the US.
Below are the steps I took and everything is working as expected. I only use the VM part of GV as I do not have a need to dial via GV so I do not know how to fix that part if it is not working on your phone.
1. Go to phone app and select 3 dots in top right.
2. Select settings.
3. Select More Settings.
4. Select Call forwarding.
5. Select Voice call.
6. Populate your GV number in place of the carrier's number or whatever number is there in the 3 fields. Should be in format like +15631234321. Might be good idea to note what number is there in case you have to go back.
Always forward should be turned off.
7. Go back to settings again and select Voicemail settings.
8. Populate your GV number in the Voicemail number field. Should be in format like 5631234321. This is probably not needed unless you dial your own VM to get messages, I think.

Sprint settings don't have that...I think ours mess up when we do a profile update...and we have to dial our forwarding setup again...ie.,*73googlevoicenumber or carrier version anyway...tedious yes...but only takes a second to do...I put in a bug request as welll...you all should do the same...take note of how often it happens and what triggers...like the profile update as I could be mistaken...wish we had a fix like above...

Hoping this helps... I realized the Google Voice voicemail functionality stopped working on my unlocked Pixel (on AT&T) a few months ago. After reinstalling the Voice app, I also no longer saw the option to use its voicemail as default. I also received errors when dialing the "activate" codes mentioned on the GV site.
I hopped on a chat with AT&T and said there seemed to be a known issue with GV vm no longer working with AT&T. We went through the following:
- verified correct IMEI on account (I switch phones often so the IMEI did need to be updated)
- restarted phone
- again tried the "activate" codes and voila--success
I made a test call and GV voicemail picked up instead of the carrier, I got a vm notification, and could see the vm in the GV app. When I asked the agent what they did, they said they enabled voicemail (I wonder if they meant call forwarding?) and that was all. I went into the phone app, and yes, under call forwarding, my GV # was now listed. :good:
I was able to fix a similar issue on my newly-activated Samsung Galaxy A51 on Verizon. Nothing seemed to be getting the google vm to work.
I found another thread that suggested going into Google Voicemail (Legacy Google Voicemail). That section provided a tab that was PHONES. On that screen was a google vm number and my cell phone number. I had to press the ACTIVATE voicemail button next to my cell phone number. That provided a unique code to type into the phone (*71 plus 10-digit number, which interestingly was NOT the google vm number listed above).
I thought the code may be wrong because it was not the number assigned to me, so I edited the code to by google vm number. Didn't work. Entered code again with 10-digit number as initially provided.
Next I went into Verizon's details for my phone and then into a CALL FORWARDING section. There was an option to forward ALL CALLS or BUSY and UNANSWERED. I selected the latter and put in the 10-digit phone number (again, not the number that was showing as my vm number, but the one generated in the activation) in the *code mentioned above.
All back to working order!
