If you havent guessed it yet, I am turning my Kaiser into a spy cam for loafing around in the dark. I have all the stuff, camera (kaiser), IR source (maglite with ir pass filter, check film negatives?), and thats it, but the IR sensitivity, while it does see it, it sucks.
Is there a way to increase the IR sensitivity via software means?

well if exposure has anything to do with it, then that would be a way. however, with the htc camera software we have right now we cant control the exposure, we have to wait til ateksoft releases CoolCamera compatible with the kaiser.
if you do get something to work then let us know, I myself really do enjoy anything that is infrared.

Ok,thats for those members in the brotherhood whn hav played with the tytn2 camera.How's the picture quality? Do you miss the camera flash on the hermes? Wat difference does it make after all, i mean, a 3mp autofocus should be alrite. But what if u need ur flash light at night and theres none.I hav a dilema,stick on the hermes with its wm6 and having flashlight or migrate to kaiser(i dont use gps)

I can't comment on the Kaiser's picture quality but when I owned a 8525, I never used the flash. The flash in 8525/Hermes, to me, was a joke. It did not really make any difference unless you were taking macro pictures at night. I'm glad that Tilt does not have it. One less thing to worry about. Just my opinion.

agreed - I miss the flashlight.
the TyTN2 camera takes longer from button-push to snapshot than the TyTN - sometimes 2 seconds. Light sensitivity is better, but it's still a phone. Auto-focus seems to help but who can wait all that time?
yes the slow response time is kinda annoying. the pic quality is ok even without the flash, definitely not as good as my P1i sony ericsson.
The camera is better than the TyTN but no flash leads for very jumpy framerates in low light conditions. Nicest thing is the two-press camera button. Half press for focus and full press to take - much more like any other camera-phone. Quality still not up to that of a SE or a small digital camera though...

yeah..i agree with the slow response,i was getting ready to call htc,but i see its just not my phone..it really suck waiting for the pic.
The image quality is OK (good for 3MP phone camera).
But the camera operation is very slow, jumpy and blurry when there are lot of movement of the object or when you pan the phone. I hate this.
And yes, the lag is really, really annoying You will not be able to take picture of moving object!
Flip chart text legible after transfer to PC?
Can someone share an image of a "flip chart" with letters or numerals approximately the same height as a man's palm?
I'm trying to decide between the Tilt (3MP, no flash) and the BB Curve (2MP, with flash). Shooting flip charts in typical conference room light with no natural window light is the only camera utilization that I expect. The images will be captured on the device, then transferred to a PC for transcription -- with essentially infinite optical zoom capability available.

Camera speed with shutter sound disabled?
Does your Tilt/Tytn II camera speed increase with shutter sound disabled? I read that idea on another thread but haven't seen it confirmed here or elsewhere.

Does anyone else notice a click when the camera has finished focusing?
its normal. my sony ericsson K790a with autofocus clicks after focusing as well.
Def miss the flashlight... but mainly because of using it as a flashlight to look for things
But the refresh late is appauling which is annoying
Having said that, if you are stable and get rid of any shaking, i think the camera is actually really good. I took some scenery pictures in the car while going to Kent and even though we were moving at 70mph or so, they came out without any blurryness or noise on the pictures.
If they get rid of the refresh rate in darker (and I dont mean even dusk type light but just not daylight) areas, the camera will be perfect (for a phone)
I just upgraded from my old nokia 6682 to the kaiser. Here's two shots of roughly the same thing.

This is low light night conditions. Nokia is a complete joke. Kaiser is infinitely better but still no comparison to ccd cameras.
It's real slow taking pictures. That's for sure. And the only way to get digital camera replacement shots is to be really really still while taking it, which is real hard when it takes multiple seconds to take the picture.

Does anyone have a clue on how they work, or if they even work?
Well, they are not LEDs, they are sensors. Two of them are obvious, one is proximity sensor and the other one would be light sensor. Don't have a clue about the third though...
I'm secretly hoping the third to be a notification LED of some sort

That makes no sense. The gyro and accelerometer have no need for visual input, hence highly(!) unlikely that they are what you say they are.
i suspect the first 2 from the left are both proximity sensors, it could be to increase reliability.
the 3rd is the light sensor.
The proximity sensor is based on an IR diode and an IR receiver, just "film" your O2X with a camera and you should see the IR LED flashing.

An idea.
We know that there is no Infra-red output on the Note 8, (unlike S6, s7 etc) rendering remote control apps useless.
However, there is an infra-red diode on the front of the note 8 for the iris scanner.
In our house we have infra-red controlled dimmer switches for our lights. Upon messing around having far too much time on my hands, I have managed to get our dimmer switches to respond to the Note 8`s iris scanner LED. Meaning when I have my case open, the lights dim and go up again.
What are the chances of being able to manipulate this LED for a remote app. It seems pretty powerful, dimming our lights from across the room. Can make a vid if anyone wants to see - pretty basic stuff.
Could the LED on the front of the Note 8 be switched (pulsed) fast enough do you think? ie 34khz / 38 khz to enable use as as an IR remote control?
There is obviously an API for accessing the IR diode.
Any thoughts?

After all, all a remote control is, is the light turned on and off really fast (ie 34000 per second / 34 khz) in a set pattern to align with the requirements of the receiver / tuner.
Would need to be rooted obviously with kernel level access.

Just read in another post that this isnt possible because the hardware. Ir control remote leds wavelength is tipically 940-950 nm, and IR led for iris scanner is emitting in 810nm. That is why we can see clearly a red dot in the led, I didnt see anything in my note 4 with my eyes (only seen it throught any IR sensible camera). Anyway I will build a simple ir reciver with a PIC when I finish my finals next month in order to check if a IR reciver can get some information with the IR emitter. Hope is the last that we lose hehe

Forget the red dot.
There is actual IR that is completely invisible. Take a photo of your Note 8 from another handset. There is clearly IR in the 900nM range. Use another phone camera, it transverts the IR into visible light.
I do not mean the visible red light you can see when using iris unlock. I do not even have iris unlock / face unlock enabled and it is there.

That invisible ir you are speaking of is part of the proximity sensor.
Just throwing a suggestion, the heartbeat sensor also uses infra red, so we might be able to use that too
This looks really promissing, we have iris LED and heartrate sensor LED, both infrared, this is xda FFS we can do it!
well guys, proximity sensor has an IR LED as well, and almost every phone has a proximity sensor. but still, there's no way to turn all of them into IR remotes till now...
I just joined up since this is one of the more active places for ROG Phone 2 info. Can anyone give me the low down on what manual controls are available in the stock camera app (for the global variant, in case there's a difference)? I'm especially interested in the maximum shutter time, if focus peaking is available, and if there's any microphone settings for video.
I do a lot of long exposure photos and occasionally go to the local drag strip to video jet cars. My LG V20 is one of the best phones for that stuff, so I'm trying to get an idea of how this would stack up against it.

Something else I forgot to ask was about the resolution/pixel binning. Can you switch between 48MP and 12MP at will? I know some manufacturers force things like that depending on lighting conditions. Samsung and LG don't let you use the telephoto lens in dim light, even if that's what you want, hence my reason for asking.
You can switch. The 48mp picture takes a bit longer to take though so be careful as you'll end up moving the phone before the picture is done.
No video controls that I can see.
Please bear with me, I'm not kidding and this is the weirdest stuff.
I have a nice tv in my living room, but the sound is 'just' a Katana X soundbar that I used to connect to my PC in the past. Recently I noticed something completely bizarre: I was trying to take a cat pic (cat sitting in front of the tv) with my P30P and the volume of the soundbar exploded. After going near-deaf and looking really, really stupid I did some experiments: When I open the camera app and roughly point at the tv / soundbar, the Katana rapidly increases in volume as if I'd press the "Volume Up" button on its remote.
I do NOT need to take a picture. It's enough to just open the camera. Trying to explain this wacky behavior I .. assume that's the auto-focus / depth sensing or something? Just to state the obvious: This is NOT intended and doesn't happen with other handsets (say my gf's Samsung S9).
Questions:
- Is this an issue that came up before, for anyone?
- Is there any reasonable way to report that as a bug to Huawei? As in - a way that's actually reaching them?
TL/DR: My P30P is a 3rd party remote control for my soundbar with only one button, 'Volume+', that is fired constantly as long as the camera app is active....
Maybe when you use the camera application the IR blaster sent signal to your sounbar....
While I've never experienced this before, I can possibly guess why. The Time-of-Flight sensor next to your cameras transmit pulses of infra-red light in order to map out 3D shapes. While the exact wavelength of this signal is designed to be different to most IR remotes, it's possible that your soundbar uses a non-standard IR frequency that matches the ToF transmitter, resulting in it misinterpreting your camera as the volume up command on a remote.
Do you use your IR remote for controlling your soundbar? If not, a temporary measure would be to use opaque black tape to cover the IR receiver on the soundbar.
