Pc Modding And Tweaking - Off-topic

Just wanted to know if there is a site just like xda-dev where we could full friendly support for our pc.I know there should be one but haven't had a chance to view it.Anybody knows about such site?
Obviously I want the best of my pc just like xda satisfies the appetite to get the best from my hermes.

even i tried finding more sites but believe me there is no other site in which u'll find a section dedicated specially for the model u own.
there is another good site (not better than xda-dev)
its in russian....u'll have to use google translater to view:-
www.4pda.ru

Actually i was looking for a pc site not ppc site.Anyway thanks for that

Lets add a pc4100 section

Who makes those decisions? The ppc4100 is becoming more popular everyday and its verry similar to what xda phones. Windows mobile is generic so it works the same way on the xda as it would on the ppc4100. there is already a section for the ppc 4100 in the ftp site so y not make it official?
Who do I convince? Lets make it happen!!!
you ppl might not be interrested but there are thousands out there with that silly phone itching to mess with it.
brings more members. isnt that good for this site?
more fame!!!
yay for fame..
i think its a grate ida lets do that.
I have no problems if the administrators create a section for the PPC4100 (I have a friend who would love to see that happen), but this forums are for XDA, MDA, Qtek, iMATE, etc devices, also known as (HTC Devices) HTC is the manufacturer of such devices, wich also are somewhat more popular in general.
QUOTE FROM XDA-DEVELOPERS.COM FRONT PAGE:
"The only two things not wrong about the name of this site are the dash and the dot. This site is about certain PDA-phones, made by a secretive firm called HTC in Taiwan. Their makers named them 'Wallaby', 'Himalaya' and 'Blue Angel', but almost nobody knows them by those names. The mobile provider O2 sells them under the brand-name 'XDA', and that's what we had in our hands first. They're also known as Qtek, MDA, SX-56 and many, many other names.
Then there's the 'developers' part: we noticed a profound lack of developer information for these devices. Since we develop software for it, we need information, and nobody seemed eager or ready to give us what we needed. So we 'reverse-engineered' the devices, found a lot of information, and shared it with the world.
But as our site grew we realised that lots of ordinary users were also suffering from a lack of support. They started using the xda-developers forum to communicate and before long the forum was as much a user forum as it was a developer forum.
And then finally there's the 'com' part of our name: we're not very commercial: no banner-ads, no pop-ups and we're not selling anything. The entire site is supported by private donations from the community that uses it. You are encouraged to make a donation if the site is useful to you.
So in short: never mind this site's name. No matter who you are or what brand-name is printed on your phone: if it looks like one of these, this site is for you. "
yay, me too.
I've been messing around with XDA-tools and the PPC4100. I'd greatly appreciate the chance to get help from more experienced people.
audiovox 4100 has an extented rom ?
the 4100 has 2 flash id's first can be the main one used as an operating sys. thesecond would probably be called the " exteded rom " the flash id can be found in the diagnostics menu. pda was not built by audiovox as there is another version of this pda that is acailable at http://www.anextek.com i dont know how it is developed by anymore it may verry well be part of the xda family.
so far we know that the pda copies the flashes image to pda in 8 parts. it copies it to the pda first to the extended rom then is extracted to the main rom. i can be corrected if anyone know s otherwise. i will list the addresses tha the rom is devided into jsut incase anyone needs them as soon as i flash my next pda with the update available.
windows is made to be generic. i dont see y it should exclude the 4100. lets make it part of the family. if u hagve a 4100 join us in testing the unit and expanding.
as far as modifications i have modified the cradle to charge the battary of the pda using one wire i will post a photo as soon as i can.
my next step is to flash win mobile 2003 ont the 4100 but taking extra precausions on this one so it might take a while
if u hold down the rocker while resetting u will be able to get into the boot strap menu. as soon as you are there u have may shoices.
- press on bootloader. will boot to write rom from sd card
- press on format tools ( this will allow you to format the pda ram ) if internal storage is missing this will fix it.
- press o os to boot normaly.
- shift the rocker upwards u will go into the hardware test mode.
I agree that 4100 users should unite and help eachother... 8)
But just to clarify, even though Windows Mobile is made to be generic, there are some specifics built in by manufacturers, plus there are some hardware differences, even between HTC devices, that's why you have not seen Windows Mobile 5.0 on other devices except the Himalaya.
Cheers and hava a great weekend!!!

Hello faramisimo,
plz can you share this flash for PCC 4100
thanks
u can find the flash files in xda's ftp site.
for ppc4100
here is how u can make your cradel charge your pda powered by usb
very simple, only one wire.
go there to vote weather or not u want to see the 4100 on this site.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=22915
Would luv some expert developr help w/ audiovox ppc 4100 ROM
Let me throw my two cents in as well. As a phone or a PDA, the 4100 has a lot to be desired. That being said, it sure would be nice to be able to install the OS that I want. nemo and faramisimo have made great progress, but I'm sure they could use a bit of help. Any XDA help would be greatly appreciated!

Wizard Roms Are Still Available

Some ROMS that were on the FTP before are available on BitTorrent, Azureus, eDonkey or any other P2P Torrent client.
A search for the original posted name of the file in a Torrent tracking site will probably do in most cases.
Beneath you will find a list of ROMs that have been found available through searching on PirateBay:

Remember you help the community by leaving the files in your shared folders as long as possible.
Rom distribution is decentralize from XDA.
XDA Cannot and will not host Material on it's servers that is not allowed.
Which basicly means that the people that own or pay for the rights of use to the Domain, webserver and FTP server, thus supplying us the users with these forums, have nothing to do with the distribution of illegal roms.
I will take a looksee, to see if i find other Roms. Any help in this is apreciated off course.
And i will update the list accordingly.
What do you people think of updating the Wiki to explain what the names of these ROMs represent?
Thats good Noonski that you are taking initiative...Dunno if this will be acceptable though or whether M$ will force xda not to even talk about torrents having ROMs (seems unlikely).Anyways, if this is allowed, I'm willing to pitch in to reseed and also seed the ones I already have with me.
But one thing, though choosing one particular site like demonoid might be a good idea in the sense of having a central repository of all ROM torrents but it has its drawback in not giving access to everyone since its a private tracker. Moreover, since you propose the next release of a rom to be closed, this raises 2 questions:
1. Ppl who are not demonoid subscribers can't get em. Is there going to be any invite system in place for demonoid?
2. even with the invite system how will one determine who gets the invite and who doesnt?
I am happy with my ROM collection and honestly this doesnt impact me at all. If I want a WM6 device, i will just buy it.
demonoid is good, i second that, and as for invites, i think i can give out some, we need to start by making a list, lets say by the number of posts, lol i will wont be getting invites since i have been more of a reader than a replier. anyways, but we need to think outside the box, we cant just cave in.
lets see,
our options are:
1. private ftp, maybe ce4arab.com will allow us to use thiers
2. torrents
3. irc
4. newsgroups, hate them since never got how to use them
5. files upload websites
6. gmail, or yahoo spaces
any more?
it has to be done, we need to do this, we will do it.
cheers
I think torrents are a great way to go. I prefer Pirate Bay since registration is closed at Demonoid it is harder to get many new users using for these purposes. If there are existing torrents pm me and I will be happy to seed as well.

I would love to help out by seeding. I have a T1, not a ton of bandwidth but plenty good to get these pushed out. If someone has something they want me to seed, let me know.

I would also be in favor of setting up a private FTP for those who have something to contribute. If it is not in the public eye then we shouldn't have a problem right. I have been using these ROMS for a while now and would love to help out. I have plenty of hard drive space for it, and a Dual Processor server on my T1.
Send me email if you wanna get something done. Perhaps we need a mini private forum outside of the public eye also, just a thought.
cease-and-desist letter from Microsoft....
While the idea is nice, I think It'll only help get Demonoid get a cease-and-desist letter from Microsoft....
Think you better upload them to newsgroups, like a.b.warez.pocketpc or something.....

I just feeling around a bit. Wading the water.
1. Demonoid has an invite system in place allready.
I have just posted the torrents also on a PirateBay tracker.
And BTW the torrent on demonoid should be open to everyone unless i F^cked up again
2. You are right about deciding who's in or out.
I myself would only invite if i knew that either the user nows what he wants. I could see some of his posts for instance.
It's why having a discussion is a good thing. What do people think is smart. What do the Cooks want.
Do they want the roms to be totally available for everyone including users that should not be playing around with Roms but do add to the attention XDA gets?
As for me i don't care where i post the Roms. It's just that for most of my other torrents i'm a Demonoid user. I'll post them anywhere and seed them anyhow. As long as i don't get them from XDA directly it's none of their biz is it?

The three faria roms are available on PirateBay all people now need to do to help out is keep the seeds alive.
Maybe i should reconsider changing my nick there.
if anyone can please seed the PDAviet4 installer that would be GREAT!!! I have been wanting to try it out for a long time now, and i've searched every torrent site i know of and nothing comes up. I myself am helping out with the faria roms. If anyone can please message me with a means of a way to get it, that would be GREAT!
Thank you.
I'd definitely like to see postings of new releases to newsgroups as this is the fastest way to obtain anything that's recent.
I myself have a few roms to share :
buttons 1.05
molski (several)
faria V2 8mb
pdaviet3 / 4
orwells
underground
tmobile 2.26
maybe others...
but I dunno how to post to newsgroups or else
If s/o can explain, i'll be glad to help there
AKU3.2-1.0RC1 Wizard Rom
Yes the thread has been updated.
the
AKU3.2-1.0RC1 Wizard Rom
can now also be found on Pirate Bay.
I want to thank those people that are now reseeding the Faria roms.
I have never stated and will never state that I am the person that uploads these Roms.
Shame that not enough people have picked up on this thread or sollution.

&
RUU_Molski.Biz_Faria_AKU3.2-3000_3000_024711_WWE-30MB-CF2-G3
Are working fine on the Bay.
It's also funny to see how the 8Mb faria version is one of the favourites.
Running it myself and loving it.
Also funny to see how these Roms get seeded better than Movies.
(in other words to stay seeded even without leeches, which means a better availability, Yes it my make your seed list bigger, but some torrent clients have filters)
If only we can figure a workaround to MS request for new roms. As it clear that any new release has to be provided by a Cook. And that means a Cook can always be traced to it's afiliation and responsibility of getting the Roms out there. On th other hand A Cook is not XDA-Devs. They just use the Forums to discuss their builds! I asume that since this post (up until now) has not been blocked by an Admin. It means they do not condone this endavour. But still some input of what would be wise to post and what not. Like setting up some forum rules like not anwsering questions to users about where to find the roms. Because let's face it anyone that does not know how to find downloadable content should not be messing with their phoner?
So i'm still waiting for the big shots really. In the mean time i'll just continue my epic search for The Lost Roms!
I have a htc wizard (T-mobile MDA) and I'm not sure which rom to use in the following. What is the difference between them?
faria-htc-wizard-aku3.3-page-pool-8mb
faria-htc-wizard-aku3.3-page-pool-6mb
faria-htc-wizard-aku3.3-page-pool-4mb
Thanks for any help

New site to compare and explain computers...

Hi all
I know a lot of people on here (and other forums) look for help from techy people when they are wanting a new computer so I wanted to let you know about a web site I've been working that not only compares computer prices but also scores them based on the components they are built with so even though you might not understand the geeky parts you can see the overall rating!
I am looking for some feedback on the site as I doing a small scale launch so any comments / ideas are most welcome.
The site is www.PCchecker.co.uk and is similar in style to my other site (see signature) which some people know on these forums and which compares mobile phone prices.
Cheers in advance

Why this website is "not manufactured by htc = no xda support"???

Hey Guys
Could anyone explain why this website is "not manufactured by htc = no support" ????
i mean is it a technical problem ? maybe a flashing problem ? because the people who make roms etc ... im sure they would like to make roms for any kind of phone and not only for htc.
Second:
xda support... i don't understand the term really and it doesnt make much sense ... i think we're a community who owns xperia's and modify the roms and make customization and make it public ... just like themes, icons, programs... for example all programs or icons available as cabs or other formats they can be used by any wm phone.
And also registry tweakings, hw problems we discuss etc.
so my question is does this website have a policy not to create a section for non htc phones ? or there are technical problems ? If there is a policy then i think all people who buy X2 should find another website and create a new community and if it's more technical reated well i propose to make anyway a section for X2 and exchange ideas ... share programs tweaks... etc.
i guess the reason for this is to keep a tight community.
there are many HTC devices and enough people to service.
if you find a website on dogs then it is very understandable if they dont want posts about cats. you can however argument they should do a website about all animals because in general they all eat, sleep and ****. also you can add humans for this reason . if you think long enough then you need only 1 page for carbon-based lifeforms ...
its the internet. you pick a theme, create a page and (normally) stick to it. Its the best way to find experts in your field/theme.
- QuadWord
p.s.: i guess the X2 is a (first time) special case because it will be similar to the X1 in many ways. it is only a matter of time to wait for the first X2 owner posts here. then we will see if this forum tolerates cat/dog mutants ;-) the best compromise would be to add a small x2 subforum in the x1 section. the x2 software and rom will be an essential source for x1 modifications an therefore the x2 should have a small place here (my opinion).

I nominate you for best forum thread answer EVER!
I guess you missed the point of this site / forum: as from the beginning xda-developers has been the community for the XDA (like O2 XDA, Qtek, I-mate & the latter HTC-) users who wanted or needed their underperformed Wallabies to be as promised.
Later the BlueAngel, Alpine etc devices came out and this site is / has been the place to be for these devices.
I had the Blueangel, Hermes and now the Kovsky.
When i had a SE-P800 i knew the great cooks here dindn`t do any symbian-stuff so i had to go for an another site; this is (i guess) very normal?
Edit:
Of course i`m one of the Kovsky-users who likes to see the X2-stuff here ported for the X1 !! But no hard feelings if that`s not going to happen; the internet-village isn`t so big so we`ll visit a X2-related site also ;-)
All we are going to see is probably some stuff being ported from X2 to X1. So does the rom etc. I dont think we'll see any rom for X2 popping up here,or if there is it'll probably be in the off topic section.
i dont know much about technical stuff, but i remember reading it somewhere that HTC made phone have their own "different" bootloader thing. Thats why hardSPL on some htc devices is pretty much similar, different to other non htc device like omnia.
someone please correct me if im wrong.
cheers
we all need to agree on a X2 sight that we will all go onto otherwise we will disperse!!!

hi i am new to this site my name is Craig i have just got a XDA zest at what i thort was a really good price £40 boxed and mint
i have seen a few mods for the phone alredy this sites seems the best around for this kind of thing.
i like the look of windows mobile 6.1 Diamond
i am looking for help and advice on what progams i will need to mod this phone
so...what stuff should i download first ?
Hi ad welcome
£40 = a good price indeed.
Unfortunately for you, the Zest (although it's an XDA from O2) is actually made made Asus - unlike almost all other O2 PDA/phones that are made by HTC. As you may know we concentrate on HTC phones here. So unfortunately you won't find a forum for the zest.
However, as the phone runs Windows Mobile then most applications that get mentioned here will have a version for your phone. So you can hunt around the site using the search funtion) for applications and programmes) there are also many sites offering freeware for windows mobile and of course there are also hundreds of paid apps as well. It's easier for folk to suggest an application if you say what sort of things you want to do with the phone. Spmetimes it's easier to browse around the freeware Windows Mobile sites.
Regarding changing ROMs or changing the version of Windows Mobile Operating System (OS). Do not use applications or programmes for doing this that you see here. The OS for mobile phones is specific to each phone model and as the Zest is not included here then there is no suitable OS upgrade available here. If you attempt to change the OS using stuff found here you could "brick" your phone or to put it another way - render it useless, a paperweight, a "brick"!!! So far as I'm aware there is no site currently creating ROMs for Asus phones (I could be wrong) other than perhaps Asus or O2 who MAY issue ROM updates from time to time.
