On my previous Symbian phone (m6ooi) I was able to group contacts according to my preferences. I had groups like friends, family, restaurants, banks and so on.
So upon searching for a restaurant, I would set the view to restaurant only and then cycle to those contacts only. Very handy when you're hungry and want to see whats on your list.
How do I go about doing that on my TyTN II?
Thanks

In Contacts you will find a field "Category", wich you can group your contacts together. Then, when looking for contacts, go to "menu", "filters", then choose what category you want to see. You can see multiple category at once...
Ok great! But is there no quicker/more convenient way to classify contacts? I have something like 300 contacts!!!!
sync with outlook and do it there
Sync wit Outlook...
well... As far I seen... when I am syncing with Exchange Server & Active Sync... for some reason.... groups are not syncing... which almost cause me big trouble when I was abroad.

I just guess that your direction of sync may be from Mobile to Desktop.
first Sync with outlook. Then set your categories in outlook, then before synchronizing, set ActiveSync settings to Replace on mobile, i.e. direction of sync to mobile from desktop.
I am using this technique for sending group sms on my I-Mate K-Jam WM5.
I'm using Group sms
hey when i went on windows live messenger on my o2 ignito... it started synchronising contacts... so i was like fair enough.. if i had to get on msn messenger then i'll let it load etc.. but now all these email addresses are on my All People contact list and i just want my phone numbers i put in and not my windows live messenger contacts! i want them to be seperate.. like if i go on windows live messenger (msn) that i can use that... and then if i go on my phonebook is just my friends phone numebrs that i put in..
anyone know what to do
thanks a lot guys!
You can do this by first of all, going into windows live, not messenger. Go to Account option on the Menu tab, tap on Switch Windows Live ID.
Re-enter your account details and when you get past entering username and password, you will see a list of things that you can sync. I personally leave them all unticked as I don't want my hotmail on my device, nor a long list of contacts on the phone itself.
Each time where a reasonable amount of time has gone by where I have not used Windows Live, I go to the Sync page and tap that to get the latest personal settings etc and then go straight into msn.
Hope this helps.
hey
thanks a lot dude.. really did..
can now see my contacts! lol
also do you, or anyone know whta happened to the GPS system etc :-S and maps?? on the xda ignito... because it came with like a few programs lol... and i always put peoples first names and last names for the contact list.. but it arranges contacts by last name, first name... when i want it to be first name, last name...
anyone know how to change that?? sorry for all the dumb questions lol... the manual they gave is so useless
I've been hoping for something like this for a while now so I thought I would share with everyone!
A dev from the android IRC just released a facebook contacts importer for devices from versions 1.5 and up.
It's about $2 and it works pretty flawlessly on my Hero.
Just realised I didn't even include the name or a cyrket link
It's "facebook contact sync" -> http://www.cyrket.com/p/android/com.dereenigne.fbcontactsync/
I don't understand this to be honest. What kind of info would you be syncing from facebook contacts? And to be honest, a lot of people I have on my facebook "friends" list I haven't talked to in ages. Could you compile a list of information it rips from facebook? Also, can you pick and choose what info you want on your phone about each person? Another thing too, facebook doesn't let you categorize your friends list so, is there anyway to pick a certain group of people?
Just search in market place for "IMO"
This is a nice Application for Social Networking
Which includes,
MSN,
Yahoo,
AIM/ICQ,
Google Talk,
My Space,
Skype only messenger (No support for voice and video)
Facebook,
Jabber.
This all in one Application works really great and manages Contacts and friends
and many more please give a try.
If you find this post is useful please dont forget to give a Thanks
And yes its a Free Application
Again all the credits goes to the Developer
Sorry if i am wrong but i like this all in one instant messenger application
I believe "Meebo" does the same
Yea thats Right
Meebo needs an meebo account to save all the IM message
but for this application no need of Application Accounts
Hope you got the picture
Thank you
Not really. You dont need Meebo account. You can add separate accounts (ICQ, AIM, etc) in Meebo on Android too. It is just more convenient to have it aggregated under Meebo account. But you do not have to
i am sorry i don't know that
Thanks for the information
but does meebo has skype support? i think IMO has skype too
and also i like the UI of IMO then other
please give a try you can feel the difference
anyway thank you

No Twitter support? I guess that's no big deal since nobody's heard of or is using Twitter.
whatsapp now in market place as per the latest blog on wmpoweruser.com. unfortunately The reason many of you wont be able to see this is in marketplace is because your Windows Live ID hasn't been added by the author to the permissions page.
But good news is that it's coming sooon
Also found a link to download the Xap file if anyone interested in trying...
can you put the link INN here, or send the xap over to me via PM ????
But better not this one here (can't download anything from there).
Thanks!
WhatsApp working
Hi
I have attached the file
Was not able to post the link, since I am a "newbie" here!
You can thank me later
thanks!! it works!
Thanks a bunch!!!!!!
Hmm can aynone tell me whats better with WHatsApp, as with the other Messengers? there so much, i dont know, what i should use. There is ICQ, Yahoo, Jabber, MSN, Hotmail and much mor. Is it the same or do i have any advantage with WHatsApp?
WhatsApp Messenger is a cross-platform mobile messaging app which allows you to exchange messages without having to pay for SMS. It uses you phone contact list to search for the people who uses whatsapp those phones can all message each other! Because WhatsApp Messenger uses the same internet data plan that you use for email and web browsing, there is no cost to message and stay in touch with your friends.
In short, WhatsApp bypasses any complex contact importing process by comparing your phone's address book (People hub) with a list of registered WhatsApp users. You still have to set up an account with them, but this is dead easy and once that's done, you will see your WhatsApp contact list populate with people already on your phone.
Can't do that with the other messaging apps.
thanks!! it works!
THX been waiting 4 this
At least ! ^_^
This and skype were the only reasons wich I had against WP7.

i agree though i am more greedy than you ...this (whatsapp), Skype, Layar (augmented reality apps) and good gps navigation are things i was still booting android ....whatsapp will make my andoid booting less frequesnt though i am still waiting for other 3.. ...
This version of whatsapp is less than satisfactory .. i dont see refresh or contact sync .. no landscape mode support.. Pictures sent in attachments .. do not auto rotate ...no zoom in pictures and no options to save the pictures..
It only works with Mango, doesnt it?
Awesome, have been waiting ages for this. Thanks for the xap, its working great
yes it works. thumbs up to the hired developer at whatsapp. seems he knows what he does. very interesting coding though (reflecting it currently). i fear there is a hole that i can use any number i like once i installed and confirmed it after i get the 3 digit configrmation code
i always have been curious as to how whatsapp became so famous.
to me, the REAL cross platform messenger are windows live messenger or yahoo messenger, which iphone, android, wp7, symbian, blackberry has.. AND EVEN PC. whatsapp is limited to handphones.
live messenger or yahoo messenger is able to do MORE things than whatsapp.
the only thing whatsapp has compared to those IM, is that you do not need to add people to your contact list.. people in your phonebook appears automatically..
wont it be superb if you can access whatsapp on PC too?
you can. on windows 8

Funny, people in my WLM/MSN contact list automatically showed up on my phone
It's just the other way around, same principle though: "unified" contacts - So i'll stick with WLM/MSN, there's a wide variety of clients available for PC (windows, linux, mac) and pretty much any phone.
This is a very good news for wp7 users
