I have owned my Tilt for about 7 months and have always stuck with the stock ROMs. Extremely poor signal strength in my area has led me to try new radios, which, basically, entailed that I go all in on the ROMs. Ultimately, I had to revert to the current WM6.0 AT&T Stock ROM because there were just too many problems.
I have been with XDA Developers a long time, and find it invaluable. I have also found that it now the new trend to flame rather than answer. Bottom line, it IS possible to search and not find; and, regardless, 103 page posts are not going to be of any use to anyone. Its unfortunate.
So this message is really for those who control the Wiki and for those who control Post # 1 in their threads. There is so much information I could have used which might have made my transition a success. I provide this info in hopes that each individual in possession of editing ability might consider updating their threads.
1) HardSPL - Jaberwok has a solution for the White Screen. One of the MIDDLE powered-on steps is to remove your SIM and SD Cards. It is not possible on a Tilt (at least) to remove the sim while the unit is on. I would respectfully as that Jaberwok update his Page 1 to clarify when the SIM Card should be removed. As a note, the problem is that if you unlock the sim card slot the unit freezes and tells you it will reboot when you lock it. If you leave it unlocked the unit wont boot. If there the SIM card really needs to be out, it would be great if the instructions were reshuffled so that they don't give the impression that the SIM card is to be removed from any state other than a power off, with the door of the empty chamber locked.
2) AT&T Settings - I had decided to settle on Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid ROM as it seemed to be one of the newer ones. The AT&T connectivity customization which runs was not correct (for the United States at least). The web might connect ok via MEdia Net, but nothing else would - preferring to go to ISP (which had isp.cingular). Attempting to change these settings to mirror the Stock AT&T settings did not provide any relief. There was no way to check messages. Perhaps part of the Wiki could explain how to take anyone's custom ROM, and get it to work on the AT&T network. Checking messages would result in a "dialing error" (no matter whether the advanced connection settings were set to MEdia Net for all uses, or the values were changed to mirror the wap.cingular settings).
3) Diamond - The master ROM sticky from the Wiki is a great resource. I was afraid to try Dutty's Diamond ROM because I had no idea if Diamond was a new phone, which would then cause me to brick mine.
4) Hard Resets - All of the installation instructions, whether on the individual cooker's Post 1, or in the Rom Wiki, are fairly inconsistent on when a Hard Reset is needed. Many posts on the forum indicate Problem X -> oh did you hard reset -> yeah that worked. An example of the vagueness is: Should I hard reset before I flash HardSPL? before I flash a Radio? before a flash a ROM? and then all of the above but using "after". Unless you are a cook, cooking your favorite apps into a rom, a Hard Reset is an awful bitter pill. If there are steps which do not require a Hard Reset, it would be of great benefit to know those.
5) Radio - Would love to know if I can flash a radio without a Hard Reset afterwards. Would also love to know if I can flash a radio into the stock AT&T ROM.
6) HardSPL Post 1 - Would love to see a line about whether you need to do anything different if you already have a different HardSPL installed.
Anyway, these are the questions which I believe would be wonderful additions to the various wiki posts, etc. While I anticipate the necessary flames (gotta keep those post counts up, I guess), I believe anyone in control of these threads will note these omissions. I ask that THOSE people understand that everyone is new at flashing at least once, regardless of how experienced they are, and these omissions have tangled at least one poor soul up.
Of course, if anyone out there is also honestly willing to help with the underlying problem, I would love for some help ... I just want to get the best radio I can on my phone. If there is a ROM out there which is right for the AT&T Tilt (meaning, the AT&T connectivity settings are correct, and the keyboard is properly mapped), which has a better radio, I would dearly love to know about it.
Thanks for reading.
Re Hard resets.
Most cooked roms require you to do an additional hard reset after the device has been flashed and restarted.
This is simply something that people have learnt from experience.
The only other times you hard reset after:
1) Phone simply won't respond after trying everything
2) You've installed something and it has screwed your settings beyond any chance of recovery
3) Your rom has got cluttered after loads of installs and uninstalls... and you need to "clean" your rom but still want to keep the same one.
(But I agree that "first post" maintenance would be really handy - but the rom chefs are busy cooking - someone else should volunteer to update their first three posts.
OK But to Start all my answers were learned FROM reading and searching. Just FYI.
1) I can't really answer this. I didn't have the write screen problem.
2) If I recall correctly just about the majority of people here use MEdiaNet for their connection. There are a couple people I remember saying that they use the ISP, and they just simply changed the setting manually. If you get it to work, I'd be happy to help you create a CAB for it.
3) Rest assured that even though the Diamond is a new phone if the ROM is posted in the Kaiser Forum. Its "ok to use it on your phone. If you are worried you can wait until a couple people try it and say "This Works great" Then you can look at their signature and see they are using a Kaiser.
4) The most common answer it After a ROM flash right at when you See the "Tap to Begin" Screen.
5) I never Hard Reset after I flash a radio. I flash so much though. People recommend you flash the radio first, I've done it both ways. I Personally don't notice a difference. Questions about What radio will work with Stock AT&T ROMs, Which I believe are still WM 6.0, are toroughly answered in AllTheWays Ultimate radio Thread.
6) That would be nice. Would get more notice by the Ones in the KNow about those things if this qustion was posting in that specific thread.
7) Anyone should feel free to edit and add to the WIKI.
8) IIRC shogunmark's Death is an AT&T Tilt based ROM. But the Tytn II based Roms work fine on the Tilt. You just have to install the Tilt Keyboard Fix and Soft Reset.

I too have been a Tilt owner for 8 months, first came across this site last Nov. At that point, the Kaiser forum consisted of speculation on when the Tilt would appear in the US. I was a lurker for 6 months before I joined and posted my first question. Until then I searched ( Forum and Google ) for all my info and never, I mean never did I not find an answer to my questions.
Yes it took time and perseverance but the information was ALWAYS there.I will steadfastly stand here and argue with anyone who says " I searched and found nothing " and tell them " you searched, got bored, it was too much trouble, and you wanted instant gratification ", that is why you are posting. ( Except genuine questions on newly released items ).
That is the real reason why it is so difficult to search. Redundant posts and lazy people who think their time is too valuable to search. Want an example?
JimmyMcGee, over 1000 posts, 0 new threads
Harkadenn, 330 posts over forty new threads, 36 in one month alone, before he finally sold his phone. He had a problem, started a thread
One person, multiply that times 1000 people who think that we should just answer their questions as they come up, and not flame them to search.
I will do the math, 36000 new threads per month, you think it is impossible to search through crap now? It was not always like this, it was made like this.

Everyone has the ability to edit the Wiki. The information in this site evolves. ( see the new info about how different Spls affect your phone)The problem with the Wiki is that the people with the info mostly don't use it, the people looking for info do. Do not leave it up to everyone else. Every member has the ability and thus the responsibility to correct or update any information they feel is wrong or misguiding in the Wiki.
Anyway, these are the questions which I believe would be wonderful additions to the various wiki posts, etc. While I anticipate the necessary flames (gotta keep those post counts up, I guess), I believe anyone in control of these threads will note these omissions. Yes we were all new at one time. Many of us searched (eight months, 200 posts, 2 new threads ) any too many didn't ( which is why we are talking about this ) . But don't blame the people flaming redundant thread starters( the people padding their post counts as you put it ). The remedy starts with you and me.
Now take the answers you get in this thread and add them to the Wiki for all others.
First, this is a great site and I have looked at many threads. But I still need some help.
I got a sd card (4G) and started moving some file to the card like the owners manual said. But I guess I moved something I shouldn't as my phone went crazy. It wouldn't get a service signal and among other things.
So I preformed a HardReset and reset the phone. But that seemed to cause the same problem. So I researched the web awhile and read of an update for moble 6, so i downloaded and flashed my phone. Now the problem is that I can't perform a HardReset.
My ??? are:
What can I do to fix this?
And without getting a cooked ROM, are there any good "cab's" that would improve my phone?
ummmm i dunno of any actual cabs.... But why not a "lite" custom rom? since it sounds like your looking for memory.
I wasn't planning on a Rom, because I read that it voids the warrenty. But after finding out that my warrenty has expired and t-mobile won't do anything. Are there any current Roms that are good. Must have internet sharing.
I currently use OpenTouch Project 7.7 Lite, Its been smooth running with lots of free memory... But it doesnt have Internet sharing...I do believe that a CAB can be downloaded to get that option though.... itll just take me a bit to find a good one... If you want I can look. However...... I KNOW that ITsPapaBlack 6.1v2 has it as I have used it.... But I believe there are some windows vista isues
I think I know where to look to get the cab for internet sharing, but would I have to input the information that t-mobile put on the phone. Or would it be already on it with the cab? As for OpenTouch Project 7.7, where could I find info about it?
Her ya go man.... All OTP 7.7 Roms thats a link to the downloads... as for info TTrans OTP 7.7 Thread. And btw ANY info you need on the mo network is available via their website. you can get step by step walkthroughs on how to setup the network. but the OTP 7.7 has a network setup wizards so it should do it all for ya!
I believe most ROMs have the network wizard built in, so you should be fine. As far as light ROMs go, there's a few (most of my ROMs are lite, too.) If you want ultimate in space and RAM, JustME or Just2Clean might be a good choice. (70MB FREE of storage.) But really your best bet is to try different ones and see which ones you like best. Try a little opentouch, a little itspapa's, a little just's, etc and see what you like best.
Not to hijack a thread but I have tried the OpenTouch ROMs and I notice that the MS Direct Push is no longer available. Is that due to Office 6.1 not being loaded in that ROM?
Lance
Thanx for your input. I think I'll try a few to see how they work and which one fits my needs. Right now I am trying out some .cab's and picking the ones that helps.
Oh, and do any of those ROM's ha Internet Sharing? If not, I take it that I'll have to install a .cab. But if I do that, do I have to input the information so I can use it. This is important as IS is my only internet access. Thanx.
Not sure as I only use my own ROM. I know that my most of my newer ROMs have it and as long as you run the network wizard (which runs automatically on my ROMs) then it will work without any settings having to be inputed. Just read up on the ROM's thread and you'll find out if a particular ROM has it or not.
Well I had to send my wing back as the OK button was broken so I'm trying to acquire a new one. However I flashed the 7.5 of Open Touch and noticed that it wasn't there...I'll look around for the network wizard as I've been reading all the threads and didn't see anything on that. May I ask what ROM you run? When I get a new one I'll flash that and see what I get.
Thanks
Lance

I run a modified version of my own Just2Clean. (It was a test built but I haven't had a chance to change it in a while.)

Ok, thanx. I do believe I took a quick look at your Just2Clean. So I think I look at it more in-depth.
Yeah I was thinking of looking at the Just2Clean and the JustMe ROM I think. youmanmike, if you load it up let me know what you think of it. I just bought a new wing on Ebay tonight so hopefully when it gets here I'll be able to flash it. I'd like to hear what you think about the ROM you go with.
Lance
Well youman mike.... looks like ya got plenty of info... Ive yet use any of the "Just" ROMS but I DO plan on making my own ROM eventually.... so his cooking class may help me! I start 3rd shift next week Ivan.... I may start you classes then =) Hopefully youll be around to answer my silly questions =P Let us know what ROM you flash and how it goes youmanmike!
ROM??? Looking at Manilla
I still haven't figured out what ROM to use. I kind of got side track on Manilla. I like the way it looks and from what I've read it sounds like it works good also. Now I'm trying to figure out how to use/install it. LOL
Hey everyone. I have had my Tytn2 for about 6 months now and am generally displeased with the speed of its operation. As it is my first Windows Mobile phone(v6.1) I hoped that it could supersede my older non smartphones but i am now currently doubting my investment. The idea of system optimisation and sub standard/non existant drivers has recentely come to my attention by surfing the internet trying to find the reasoning behind its sluggish operation. As i am not up to date with many technical terms used on this website and the reasonings behind the slowness of it i am making my post fairly general. I have reaslised though that there are things out there that can boost its speed and operation and make it an overall better phone.
If anyone has some favourite, worthwhile or must have tweaks i can do to my phone it would be much appreciated if you could fill me in, send me a link or generally point me in the right direction.
Cheers for your help in advance and thanks to the people out there who are working on these such things
Put a ROM on it that isn't loaded down with ATT bloatware, and HTC's slowness. You'll need to install a HardSPL on your device, SuperCID unlock your device, flash a radio, and choose a ROM to install on your device.

thankyou for your post. Excuse my ignnorance but what does a ROM actually do to the phone? I have no issues with doing so, i just really dont undertand what it does/the reasoning behind it. And also a radio? i have searched threads but there is so much about installing them etc but not many explinations on their workings. cheers k-semler
ok.. i have been looking around some more and found some more answers to my questions...so it basically boosts the performance? so once this is done what can i load onto my phone to make this all worthwhile? And also once this is done does is load as per normal, just faster? Or does the phone have a whole new layout etc. that the creator made?
cheers

The ROM is equivilant to the OS on a desktop computer, the radio allows communication via cellular, wi-fi, and GPS communications. The HardSPL is equivilant to the MBR on a desktop computer, and the Super CID is equivilant to the BIOS on a computer. (A locked CID will only allow you to install signed ROM's from either your telephone service provider, or HTC, while after a SuperCID unlock, you will be able to flash any ROM you so desire.)

The easiest way to describe it is if you went and bought a name brand computer, when you initially set up the OS, (or use the recovery discs that came with the computer), it will install the OS along with a ton of bloatware, half-functional trial ware, and other unwanted software. However, if you were to boot off of a Windows retail disc, you would have the same operating system, but without all the unnecessary software that the retailer included as an added "bonus". So yes, the computer will operate faster due to not being loaded down by unnessecary software.
Yes, once a new ROM is flashed to your phone, and it was a successful flash, it will boot up as normal, and go through the customization process. After the customization process, it will soft-reset the device, and your phone will boot as normal. It will be as fresh as it would be had it come out of the box that way. Yes, this means that you will lose your contacts list, emails, and everything else you have stored on the phone's main memory. (just like you would lose everything on your HDD if you wiped out your OS and installed it again).
To back up your contacts, simply copy the file PIM.VOL from the root of your device to a microSD card, or your desktop. After you have flashed the phone, rename the new PIM.VOL on the root of the device to PIM.OLD, and copy over your archived PIM.VOL to your phone. Soft reset your device, and boot it up like normal. After the phone restarts, verify you have your contacts list restored, and then delete the file PIM.OLD from your device. The same goes for any other data you may wish to preserve. Copy it off to an SD card, or your desktop computer. After you have flashed your phone, simply copy back all data you have archived. You will obviously need to re-install any applications you wish to have on your phone.
With a customized ROM, you can get anything from a bare-minimum install, (just the OS and nothing more), to a completely new layout with TouchFlo3D, Manala 2D, HTC Home, etc. Look at the ROM development forum, decide what you want your phone to do, and go with it. There are also betas for Windows Mobile 6.5 if you wish to try it, as well as ROM's with PIE 8.5, Opera, and virtually any combination you could possibly want to customize the layout of your phone. The phone will be as a completely different device if that is what you so desire. As far as customisation programs, look into Advanced Configurator 3.3 or Kaiser Tweak. You can also install a registry editor and do the edits manually if you so desire.
thanks for that, that simplifies it somewhat. Should i be attempting to do this to my phone in fear of a major screwup if i lack in depth undertanding of what i am actually doing? i can download the files and follow steps and probably get it right but if something goes wrong i will have not a clue of how to fix it or what i did wrong. Thats my only fear.... what your thoughts?
also can you recommend any decent ROMs for a first timer/do you know anyone i can ask?
RE: Fears
Yeah, first time flashing is pretty scary. Believe me, I know all too well how nerve wracking flashing ROMs can be the first couple of times. Just make sure you follow the directions to a "T" and you should be fine. =]
But, if by some freak accident or some screw-up on your part...there ARE a few fixes depending on what broke. There are various threads in the ROM area on this particular thing.
With that being said, just follow the flashing instructions, make sure you backup your PIM, and then pick yourself a good ROM! =]
For first-timers I'd go with either a standard 6.0-6.1 ROM or something by Dutty or L26. It's been so long and so many flashes since my first that I've honestly forgotten which one I started w/ but Dutty & L26 both make wonderful ROMs and I've had various builds by both.
Best of luck!
i am with 3 mobile: does this influence which ROM i chose. Or is this dealt with during the unlocking phase?
That is dealt with during the unlocking step. After you unlock your device, it will not matter who your carrier is. You could insert a SIM from Hong Kong if you wanted to.
I have some questions regarding hacking the Shift. And before anyone starts berating me for not searching for these topics first . . . I did. I've been trying to figure this stuff out for weeks, but with all of the broken English (I mean no offense there) and the expert speak, I've become lost. I appreciate any answers at all.
1) Where are the factory settings for the Snapvue side stored? Are they hidden in the original ROM itself? I would assume so, but need to clarify.
2) If the above is correct, I would then have to assume that flashing a ROM would delete those settings. So if someone was to use ecshift.exe to try restoring the Snapvue side to factory default, after having flashed a different ROM, it probably wouldn't work right?
3) Does the community already have the original X9501 ROM? 'Cause I want to make a backup for my own uses, but will share it if the community doesn't have it yet.
4) How do you go about dumping the ROM? Pof's guide really doesn't explain much. I need a bit more to go on.
5) Does the dumped ROM include any personal information? Say, if someone was to set up an email account, does that get included in the ROM dump?
6) Can I flash just a radio? Or do I have to dump the ROM, build the new NBH, or RUU, or ROM, or whatever it's called, inserting the radio, and then compile and flash it?
7) I'm really curious about how the Vista side is able to interact with the Snapvue side (share the WWAN connection for instance), without the user doing anything. This probably is a bit broad of a question, but how does all that work? I mean, why does that work, but we need the USB Tool to get it to connect in other ways? Another question is way does ActiveSync only work when the WWAN is off? And do our carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.) realize we're getting the laptop connect service for free?
8) Anybody tried getting a digitizer to work on the screen? Or, has anybody tried changing out the screen with a digitizer screen? I see a 7" digitizer LCD being sold on eBay and wonder if I shouldn't give it a shot. The problem of vectoring might still be there, because the Stealey processor and Photoshop just don't get along, but at least I'll have pressure sensitivity.
9) Lastly, how do I get a petition of sorts started? I see the option to "post a poll" at the bottom, but have no idea what this does. I want to get a running tally of everyone who would be willing to buy a 2GB module for the Shift. I would like to approach the major RAM manufacturers with some hard numbers, showing them exactly how they could possibly benefit, depending on manufacturing expenses. But if we get enough people involved, it may well be worth their while.
Thanks!
TopRowGuywithFeet
Nothing?
Wow. Is there really no one who can respond? Is the community/project dying for real this time?
It would be a sad day indeed. Especially considering the wonderful potential of the Shift. Why, just the other day I discovered that I can turn my Shift into a Mifi device and have every computer in my house connected for only $30 a month. Come on! That's awesome!
Bluetooth and SD card aside, it is a great device! Let's keep the project going!!
i try to answer a bit.
[1] there is no factory setting. just the default stock rom (if no custom rom has been flashed before) or the custom rom image.
[2] again, there is no settings at all. just the rom original state. if custom rom has been flashed, to restore factory setting means reflash stock rom (very hard to get). u only can use hard-reset term.
[3] pls check shift library thread. original stock rom is very hard to get. (i assume only service center have it & no updates available thru htc site )
[4] read it carefully. it is always hard to learn.
[5] no. just the original ROM image.
[6] yes, but what for. some custom rom need specific radio version to get it fully working.
[7] it has special modem interaction. usb tools is to connect the device to connect it with async/wmdc for different purpose. not for internet sharing.
[8] no idea. maybe will hv driver issue
[9] dunno what to answer.
thanks.
Thanks!
monx, you answered a good many of my question to satisfaction, I appreciate it! Anyone else care to shed some light on 4, 8, and 9? These are still lingering questions.
Another lingering question is:
Regarding 6, if I were to flash just a radio would all I have is a radio and no real OS?
Still Need Clarification
So, I finally figured out how to dump the Shift's ROM. I figured out how to turn the .raw files into a .nb and then use the .nb to create a .nbh. I have a backup of the original x9501 ROM.
Now I want to get the phone to work. I don't want to use someone elses custom ROM because I'd like to keep this somewhat legit. I'd like to make my own custom ROM, but want to simple get the phone working first. So . . . how do I go about doing that? Obviously, liberate, hardspl, but then what? Flashing just a radio won't do it right? Because there would still need to be some sort of registry editing to the OS? Anyone have a link to a guide or some info? Appreciate it.
I bought this phone after careful research. I found out that the Voice Command could be downloaded. Then I found out that it might not work. Then I found out if could if I just had the right CAB. Then I found my way here. Now I have read and read for the last two weeks when ever possible and some times for over 8 hours. Here is where I am and I would love some help. I am up against a time frame that is un-movable at this point. Here I am copying and pasting:
I have read a ton of stuff and what I finally have come to is that the CAB to operate and download the BTAG is available and I found it. It is with, this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=588882 I just don't know if I have to do a hard SPL or a Soft and or if I do one where to find the directions. I have read a ton of directions but it is not clear if they are necessary for this CAB and the CAB I believe is with Windows 6.5. I have 6.1. So if anyone can answer my questions it would be really wonderful....
should be closed by me for being duplicate...but I will leave it for this time so you can get your phone in gear, but in the future pls refrain from double posting/redundant thread opening, thx
I will also move the thread to general, it is not dev related
I already posted in backup thread, to add info on your h-spl question:
for cabs you don't need h-spl, that's only required for stock roms
so if this cab is only working on 6.5 you would need h-spl to get a 6.5 custom rom on your phone, but only for that
best
I appreciate your leaving it for me. You are obviously not used to working with newer people though. I posted the cab link so that it could be seen in order to ask the question. I am also packing, washing clothes, have my other phone listed on eBay, getting things ready for my garage sale, trying to be quiet while my boyfriend sleeps, feeding the dogs, trying not to upset them.....
In between that read any responses so that I know how to answer the offer on my other phone that I have listed on eBay. Download a backup for the Xperia so that I can load the CAB and if it doesn't work I can restore the backup....
Basically, I am trying to do a lot of things at once. That is why I am trying to cover everything in my posts. I have very limited time.
So, again thanks, I am still unclear as to whether or not this cab that is 6.5 or at least that is the ROM that it is in. I think, I am not very experienced in this.... ergo the link to his info. Back to what I said, I still am not clear on if it will work or I have wasted even more time??
I'm used to, nearly daily, but I don't like them posting all over the forum, especially not doing duplicates or starting new threads for anything
I understand your need but still: there are rules and they apply to everyone here, independent of them being in a hurry or not, having to do a lot of other things in parallel or not,...
I'm sure you noticed and read them during your research here, so pls abide by them
I am not quite sure what your post is even about - too much info all piled and mixed together. If you want an answer, you need to ask a question properly. So what is it that you need to know?
If any .CABs don't work, they can be uninstalled, no need to back up, restore and/or flash the entire phone just to get rid of the unworking .CABs
As far as Voice Command is concerned, I have it running on my X1 and it should run regardless of the ROM you have. I tried versions 1.6.0, 1.6.2 etc - all worked fine. The only difficulty is mapping the buttons with X1. I would recommend mapping left soft key, simply because I have the necessary functions on the screen, so didn't need a soft key to repeat the same, making the key reduntant and available for MS VC.
As far as ROM flashing is concerned, there is an excellent guide for flashing, just look for recommended stickies in ROM Development, but first it feels you are not really up to speed with the terminology - CABs, ROMs etc.
Mod, actually when I have so much to do, even though I read a lot of stuff I have not really completely become familiar with this site. If I had read that I certainly would not have posted it twice. That is why I did not PM the OP of the ROM that I have been referring to. Because what I did read was that no body wanted a lot of questions asked without someone reading.
As to the person who posted about my lingo. Thanks for your comments. I tried finding the folder for the cab on my phone. It is a new phone. Could not find it. Not sure what app it is in. I am familiar with my old phone. This is the 2nd of this one I have had to order now and the first one had so much wrong with it. I spent about a week alone just figuring out that that phone was definitely a lemon. The seller on eBay was not being truthful to me about it. That is a question I asked just recently.
.CABs are small installable programs, in order to have them on your phone, they need to be placed there by you, either to the phone itself or to the storage card, then you can install the program by clicking on the .CAB. There is no folder for the .CAB or app it can be in if you didn't have it placed there to begin with. Again, as I suspect, you are not quite familiar with terminology, you are using the right terms but in the wrong context somehow.
Not sure what you were looking for and not finding on your phone. Again, your descriptions make no sense. Just because you can't find the .CAB you never placed on the phone, doesn't make a phone a lemon, rather you having no idea how to use a phone or how to install anything on it in order for you to be able to use it.
No, I know that does not make a phone a lemon. It's a really long story. Just wanted to thank you for coming back and leaving me a more detailed answer. I am not stupid, I just have way too much too do and limited time so it is a combination of that and not enough sleep and trying to move internationally in 3 days. Thanks again!
Okay, I got it on my phone. But I can't get the bluetooth heaset to work. I read in many different places about assigning a button. I did that. I also say about doing a soft reset. I did that. I don't want to do either of those again for fear that I will loose everything I have at this point. Pleae anyone.....
You need to go to settings, open Voice Command and tick the appropriate option to use bluetooth with it.
Unless, of course, you are talking about general bluetooth connection. In which case i suggest you get settled, give yourself time and have a good read of the instruction booklet, section discussing bluetooth connection.
There are a whole bunch of choices. I am using a plantronics PRO and I saw the information about A2DP. So I tried that and it did not work....

what didn't work, your headset or A2DP? A2DP is a stereo format for stereo headsets and headphones. Is your headset stereo?
