Hi,
Has anyone else found that when downloading files (either from emails or images from web pages for example) with Opera Mini 4 that it opens up Pocket Internet Explorer to deal with the download?
I have set-up the tweak to allow links to be opened in Opera Mini, but it still passes downloads to PIE. I'd rather wave goodbye to PIE altogether, but can't at the moment because of this.
Does Opera Mini not have this capability or is there a way of changing the programme defaults to make it download attachments etc?
Thanks,
Steve
I think it's probably intentional. Java midlet apps seem to work in a bubble of sorts. I'm guessing the only way Opera Mini can touch the system data beyond the space allocated in the midlet is to pass the information to an external source (here, IE).

How can i set Opera as default browser ? I've installed it on the microsd.
On wm5 with this was the registry modific :
\\\registry\HKCR\.htm\_htmlfile_Opera
\\\registry\HKCR\http\Shell\Open\Command\default
\\\registry\HKCR\http\\DefaultIcon\Default
\\\registry\HKCR\http\Shell\Open\Command\default and the same for https
On WM6 i don't find the HKCR\http\Shell\Open\Command\default, the
HKCR\http\\DefaultIcon\Default and the https
Please help me
thanks
mine is opera 8.65
in opera go to: menu --> tools --> settings --> Misc.
then (check) :"set opera as defualt browser''
but I would not suggest doing this as Windows Live search will not work with opera...
cheers
it is easy
on settings in opera browser you can select it as default browser..when in opera go to tools ,settings and u will see the options...one thing though if u have kaiser it has lots of memory in board..why did you put opera on micro sd..I have 8525 and waiting the att version..I got small main memory but I didn't put it on micro sd. take care
Installing it on microsd it does not open the Internet link that arrive in the email because the modification has be made to the system registry indicating that the browser it is on micro sd but I do not succeed to find the registry keys to modify. I know that in the setting i can set it as defauilt browser. Thanks
Strange I installed mine on my card and I don't have any issues with Opera (8.65)
Definitely not trying to hijack the thread but just for my two cents:
I installed in the main memory because the Kaiser has so much more memory I assumed that something that has to be so tied to the system, like opening links in emails, would require main memory installation to work optimally. It seems that almost all programs will "work" now if they installed on the SDbut not optimally.
One question I have is that I am having trouble with Opera in another way. If I open a browser window and login in to something, in this case eBay, often when I enter data (like in a respond to a eBay email question from a buyer) I can enter the data in the window but when I click on "send" (a graphical tab on the webpage) nothing happens. This has happened with several websites while using Opera.
Anyone else having such an issue? (I realize a bit off track from the thread and not specifically related to the Kaiser)
So it seems that i've installed it on the device to work optimally but where
are the HKCR/http and HKCR/https ?
So I installed Opera mini a few days ago and fell in love with it. Very nice clean interface, renders forums like a dream, fast, etc.
I have the ATT Tilt btw running the factory ROM and have about 50MB of free Program memory when I fire Opera Mini up.
My situation is this, say I open this Kaiser forum up and read some new posts, then go back a couple pages, then open say Google or whatever. It seems to slow way down (scrolling, menu selection) after I've visited a forum at least once. I even notice if I hit the back button it looks like when it browses back it slides the forum page off to the right, almost like it's tabbed browsing without the tabs.
If I close and re-open it speeds back up but once I visit a forum it slows way down after the page is fully loaded until I close again.
Any thoughts or ideas are welcome, thanks.
31 views and no ideas?
It seems to only be happening when viewing any forums or what seem to be longer pages. I went to digg and after checking out one story and going back a few pages it started the normal slow down.
Casual browsing of non-forum sites like espn and yahoo did not result in the slow down.
Sounds like a by product of the way opera mini works...
It effectively downloads the page to its own servers, then renders it for java, then delivers it to your device.
When you visit popular sites, they are cached and ready to go.
When you visit forums etc, the opera mini server needs to download the page or check for updated version of the page - then render it and download it.
I dont really get the Opera Mini thing at all - I use Opera Mobile 8.65 and love it.

Opera Mini is fast and smooth - that counts for a lot on the WM platform which is let's face it, generally pretty 'clunky' in feel.
I like Opera Mobile too, but it can take an awful long time to render web pages. Mini on the other hand gets the information on my screen quickly, in an easy to read format and feels super slick.
But lately Opera Mini 4 beta 2 is not saving cookies, at least not for me. Each time I go to sites with passwords such as this one I have to log in with user name and password each time. Anyone else experiencing this??
Regards
Same here, opera mini makes me sign in to yahoo everytime....is this normal?
No this is not normal as I discreetly remember that a few weeks back I needed not enter my log in info each time. So must be something wrong at their Server end. But again as yet this is yet just a Beta product.

Friends,
I reviewed the posts here in the forum and searched the internet. I am using Opera 4.1 (beta) and would like to assign Opera to the IE button. I do not want java to load, by-pass this directly and run opera.
I looked around the net and this is what I have found so far and still does not work.
http://tiltsite.com/2008/02/launch-opera-mini-with-the-tilts-ie-button/
26#\Windows\jbed.exe -run s0_ (tried 0-9)
28#"\windows\jbed.exe" -run s1_
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=347688&highlight=opera+mini+4
All I want to do is launch opera mini using the IE button. Is this too much to ask for these days..
I am using mortscript (latest) and able to successfully launch internet links in outlook, word docs etc..
Please help!
Tvos
"\Windows\jbed.exe" -run s#_
works for me. try that.
hey I am getting closer..
it launched but came up with a error message in java stating Could not find suit s0_
Any ideas?
tvos
two things.
I was creating the wrong extension .lnk and I used the one from
26#\Windows\jbed.exe -run s1_ which worked.
thank you!
tvos
is there a way to get rid of the annoying message each time the application is launched? the one that asks for permission!
last, I know this has been stated but not sure if this can be done in the new beta 4.1
Can you select text by highlighting in opera mini and paste?
please advise and thank you!
tvos
my pleasure, glad it worked.
1) I think you need to use another MIDapplet (not Esmertec) to skip that prompt (I've heard Cloud lets you).
2) You still cant copy-paste in Mini
thanx, i am just glade to skip the non-sense of having to launch it manual each time.. plus, IE ppc absoulte blows...

Check out this post. It's explained very well and worked on my tilt.

beautiful job..
beta 4.1 I had to do some editing with the script to point to s1_ which was no big deal.
but how can I find the java app and change the permissions?
How to set permissions in signed versions of Opera Mini
Note: This is only valid for Opera Mini 4.1 beta.
As of Opera Mini 4.1 beta, we will offer signed versions along with unsigned. The advantage of the signed version is that you can change permission settings to less restrictive permissions. The end result is that you will get fewer permission dialogs for e.g., file and network access.
How to set permissions for Opera Mini varies a lot among different phones, but we will give you a few examples:
In general, you have to locate the folder where Opera Mini 4.1 is. Then you have to highlight Opera Mini 4.1 and press an options/menu button.
thank you!
tvos
i have everything working except the permissions and when i click on a link from outlook it doesn't pass into opera mini. opera mini loads perfect w/no problems, just doesn't complete the script.
i am using opera beta 4.1
any ideas?
thanx

Apologies for starting another thread on this browser.
I had installed a version of Opera Mobile which I liked very much however, there was no option for me to tell it that I wanted PIE to be the default browser. The reason I need PIE to be the default browser is that I have a number of programmes the use PIE that screw up with Opera.
I have had a good look around on here and it would seem that there are several versions, it got me all a bit lost as I don't want to keep installing and uninstalling.
Plus, I'm not sure which is best Mini or Mobile? Finally, how do I reset the file associations for web files eg. *.xml to be associated with PIE?
Any help would be mucho appreciated.
Anyone? Mini or Mobile?
For Full Browsing experience: Mobile
For limited bandwidth (or expensive data plan): Mini.
I don't quite care which version of Mobile, as I trust the chef' of my ROM cooked the most useful (and stable) one.
Thanks for the info. Have downloaded the latest Mobile version from Opera's website, all seems ok so far....
It is a bit un-intuitive as far as what you must do to get .XML/.HTML/Help files to open correctly again - here is the process:
I use the Total Commander File Explorer, which upon opening the context menu of a file and selecting properties, will allow you to select a program association for that file type. I'm sure it can be done in other programs as well, but the bottom line is that you want to change the program to:
iexplore.exe
And set the following as parameters:
file:%1
and (this being the part that am somewhat uncertain as to why it is necessary... but it IS) set the icon file to:
browsres.dll
with the Icon Index set to:
-6703
That should do it.

“Extensions come to Opera Mobile”
So I decided to do a search today to see if there was a way to enable extensions on Opera Mobile. In a stroke of luck, I just happened to find a post made today in the Opera dev site that has a link to a build of Opera Mobile 12 with support for extensions.
It has been working well on my Motorola Xoom 4G.
Link to apk: http://www.opera.com/download/get.pl?id=34585&sub=true¬hanks=yes&location=360
Link to the article: http://dev.opera.com/articles/view/extensions-opera-mobile-labs/
Tips:
To transfer and back up your Opera bookmarks without the need of Opera Link:
Requirements: Must be rooted!
Transfer Bookmarks from Opera Mobile 12 to Opera Mobile 12 w/Extension:
Use Rootexplorer to copy the “all” file from “/data/data/com.opera.browser/opera/etc/2/” to “/data/data/com.opera.browser.extensions/opera/etc/2/”
Backup Bookmarks from Opera Mobile 12 or Opera Mobile 12 w/Extension:
Use Rootexplorer to copy the “all” file from “/data/data/com.opera.browser/opera/etc/2/” or “/data/data/com.opera.browser.extensions/opera/etc/2/” to a desired location on you Sd Card of eternal storage.
Extra:
Here is a list of extensions that I have installed to improve my browsing experience.
Ghostery: block scripts from companies that you don't trust, delete local shared objects, and even block images and iframes.
WOT: shows you which websites people trust for safe surfing, shopping and searching on the web.
NoAds: Extension blocks external scripts, specific global script functions and variables, elements of a page
ContentBlockHelper (English): block any elements by CSS selector rules and more automatically.
SaveFrom.net helper: Helps you to download files.
