I've asked this a couple other places, with no success yet...
What does it take to do MMS on one of these things? I've had Arcsoft MMS Composer suggested many times, but FINDING the thing has been impossible. Arcsoft goes on about it at length on their website, mostly about how various mobile providers are bundling it... but mine (Telus) isn't. They don't have a trial download, they don't list it in their store, they don't list anyone who sells it, and they don't even list a price (MSRP or otherwise).
So, does anyone know where I can find this thing? I don't mind paying (a reasonable amount) for a legitimate copy, IF I could find it!
Or suggest something else that might work...?
Thanks.
I know nothing about MMS. But I may have two leads.
I was just looking in a thread about YouTube on the S730, and followed the instructions to install support for it. I think ended up with support for MMS. TCPMP may come with it. If not, the flash plugin may add support. Both are available at www.ytpocket.com. A link on the home page provides tools and instructions for installing both. Free.
As I was composing this note, I checked the file association settings for CoreCodeC. They include MMS. Not free.
Hmm, not sure if we're talking about the same thing. I'm talking about Multimedia Messaging Service - aka Picture Messaging, as opposed to just Text Messaging (SMS). In other words, the ability to "text" someone's phone with an attached picture.
This doesn't appear to have anything to do with that, but I tried it anyway, just for giggles... didn't make any difference to my problem.
Thanks anyway though, it'll be neat having YouTube on my phone
I'm not sure what you are getting at? MMS support is built into the phone? You just go to Message > New > MMS ??
That's the way it should work. With the old standard phones (my RAZR, my V710, my wife's LG, my Treo 650) you can just snap a pic with the camera, go "Send picture", and enter a contact, and it sends straight to their phone, same as you would a text message.
Windows Mobile 5 included this function. 6 apparently doesn't. There's a third-party app that some providers have chosen to include to provide the functionality, but Telus isn't one of them.
WM6 does after all I'm using WM6 and it's in my phone. It looks like that for whatever strange reason your firmware has removed that option.
From what I've been able to determine, MMS support *is not* native to WM6, at least not Standard version. WM6S phones that have it, are generally using Arcsoft MMS Composer, as bundled into the OS by the specific wireless carrier.
This, at least, is the best information I've been able to come up with between this forum and a few others.

I just started the photo app, chose album, selected a picture, chose "Send via MMS" from the menu, and saw a dialog that sure seemed to let me compose a message. I didn't check whether it really did. All this on an HTC S730 (WM 6).
Hmm, alright, mine doesn't quite do that... it has a Send option that lets me select a mail account to use, and Text Message is grayed out.
Apparently though, that's something that's common to almost all HTC phones except those that Telus provides

Fist off, let me apologize for yet another IM thread. But I have looked and done research and am stuck. You all are the peeps with the answers, so I am asking this here. Again, sorry for another IM post....
I am looking for a Mobile IM client that works over the GPRS data network, not SMS, that has a way to inform users that I am on my mobile device. From what I have seen, the only IM clients that will do this are the SMS based mobile clients. Which does me no good as I need Gtalk (Jabber) as well as AIM etc...
So my next thought was to use a different buddy icon for the IM client on my phone as opposed to when I use Gaim/Pidgin. Only I cannot seem to find one that support buddy icons on the mobile device.
Am I simply SOL and need to deal with the fact that ppl will not be able to tell I am mobile unless I go with the SMS client?
Lastly, I use 2 AIM accounts, one personal and one for business. It seems as though no Mobile IM client will let you use more than one AIM profile at a time. Does anyone know if this is actually the case. I have tried Mundu and IM+.
Thanks for any help you can give.
SC
My understanding with mundu is that you can use multiple aim accounts with the paid version. While I can't verify this on WM6 yet, I was able to do this on my palm.
BTW, don't you wish Pidgin would port already.
Yeah Pidgin would be really nice
I do have a retail ver of mundu im. I got it from handango last friday on Free-App friday. I don't know it it's exactly the same as the paid version, but it did let me update it today when the newer version came out. Are you using the version for PalmOS or for WM5?
Are you running the PPC or the SP version? I was able to use my Free-App Friday code to unlock the PPC version available for download directly from Mundu.
Unfortuantely I have noticed that this IM app, as "pretty" as it is, uses about 4X as much memory as Octro/Agile and still lacks a today screen plugin.
FWIW, I also got Mundu on free-app friday. I wasn't clear on what version I was getting from them (smartphone or PPC), so I downloaded the PPC version directly from Mundu's site, then applied the registration key Handango had emailed me to that version. So what I have should be identical to the "paid" version, but I can't find a way to sign on to the same service twice with two different IDs.
The bigger problem I'm having is, I have a friend who just got a Treo Centro, which comes with some kind of AIM messenger built in. When he messages me, I can't see his message. I get the the line that shows his id and the timestamp, but the actual text of his message is blank. He gets my messages, I get messages from his phone if I'm logged in from a PC, I get messages in Mundu if he sends them from a PC, and I and another friend of his with (an unkown phone) also gets his messages if he sends from his phone to his friends phone. But Mundo seems to omit the message if the message came from another phone.
That was my experience as well. Oh well... looks like we sit and wait for a port of Pidgin.

I did a quick search on this but couldn't find it. Anyway is it possible to add mms to your phone? I currently have to goto the providers website and view to photos and most time that site doesn't work. So i was just wondering if there is a way of adding this. I don't know much about this stuff so no need to point and laugh if it isn't possible.
well, yes. depends on your carrier.
it is telus
I realy don't understand your question.
The diamond has MMS support.
Are you asking for the settings for your provider?
TDO
ok so then whenever someone sends me a text with a picture or a video i have to log onto the website to view those pictures or videos. My question is just like most flip phones that get them sent directly to their phone is it possible to do that aswell with a smart phone. I only had this phone and a blackberry and they are both the same in that i have to log into the telus website to view any texts sent to me with media attached to them. also i have to email people my photos instead of just texting them which i also hate.
it will get directly to your phone if the mms settings are correct setup with the
settings from your provider
I had the same problem (using T-Mobile UK), all I got was a text message with a URL to T-Mobile's site.
To fix it, just send an MMS to yourself! For some reason, you need to send an MMS before you can receive one (at least that was the case with T-Mobile).
Try it and see if this fixes your problem.
yea for me it was the same,
i called tmobile why its so scarry, they told me that they need to know if your device supports MMS and the best way is to see an mms coming from your device so they can be sure that u are working on an mms enabled device.

Hello,
I have search extensively with various keywords both in the top-level forums as well as Google and I cannot find a solution to this problem. Actually, I have only found one other person on another board who has even mentioned it (no replies yet) so I wanted to ask here.
I have an at&t Fuze and when I compose a message and type in a recipient name and select "Check Names" from the menu, it gives me a list of names and when I select one, it fills in the field correctly and then immediately crashes.
I have tried various cooked ROMs as well as the stock at&t ROM with them all producing the same results. Currently I am running Monx's ROMeOS 1.40.1 (which smokes BTW!) and I have tried every possible setting I can think of (including Adv. Config) to no avail. There are no other issues with the phone other than this. Could this be a HW issue? It might be a stretch considering the symptoms but I am willing to believe anything at this point...
Please Help!
Just found this thread - Im having the SAME issue... Im surprised that nobody else has the issue or that nobody else uses Check Names...
perhaps its a corrupt contact entry. Have you tried deleting and recreating it? Or is it happening for all contact entries?
Good thought - but unfortunately its happening for good contacts. Even NEW contacts. Occasionally it will find the contact, put the name in, then close out or when it cant find a contact, it will just close out. Furthermore, its only happening for e-mail message types. MMS/SMS the checknames function works fine...
I had the same problem with one of the latest ROMeOS 1.80.* versions.
Currently I don't have the problem with 1.95.1
If I remember right, if you start with adding the receipient it works, but if you first type your text message, and then add a contact, it will crash.
1.95.1 eh? Ill have to give it a go.
Mine will crash regardless of whether text is in the field first or not, i've tried both ways and have the same results.
In narrowing down the problem to add-on applications, did you have Xpress mail installed? or any other e-mail forwarding service? Im wondering if that has anything to do with it...
i've had the same issue as well.... but it's wierd..
if the contact is a personal contact, it works fine. if it has to search my business contacts (ota activesync/exchange 2007) it will crash.
@b_slice
No, don't have Xpress mail installed.
@godashram
I don't use business contacts.
Well, that helps to eliminate potential culprits.
godashram - Mine will crash regardless of contact type, business or personal
Just a +1 from me as well.
I'm using a HTC Diamond with the stock HTC 2.03 ROM. SMS crashes and goes back to Manila when using the 'check names' function.
It happens all the time: It doesn't matter which contact I try and it also doesn't matter if I've typed in a text message or not.
Programs running in the background are: Touchlockpro and Manila.
I hope someone can come up with the cause and the solution for this.
This seems to be an inherent bug in the Stock ROM. I've uploaded 4 to 5 ROMs from different chef's and NONE of them have this same issue.
Im currently rocking the Energy 3.0 WM 6.5 and contact searching and check names is working FLAWLESSLY.
Hi all,
I made a small android program that displays the Voice Mail Indicator when you receive a Voice Mail (it waits for the +18 sms). This is a simple proof-of-concept app. When I have time, I'll improve it by adding proper notification (Sound, Led, Vibrating...).
I am providing it as is, it works well on my phone. Feel free to post questions, comments, suggestions...
Might not hurt for you to explain what a "VM" is.
I'm assuming Voicemail.
He said it's a proof-of-concept app, like a more complex 'Hello World!' app. So probably not very useful, but just a skill test.
Interesting, so an icon or led when somebody leaves a message...
Seems to me that with phones the way they are now, that messages should be recorded on the phone itself rather than by the provider. I certainly wouldn't want private information stored on somebody's unknown server where they can mess with at their leisure.
To the OP:
How about counting (x configurable) rings, playing an outgoing message, and capturing incoming message for, (configurable) seconds? Then everybody can tell their provider's to f-off and save the $6/month that they're dumping into the answering service.
I apologize for the confusion, I should have been clearer. Fido users will understand what this app is for, but I can understand why others don't.
The situation is simple. With Fido, whenever someone leaves us a new VM (VoiceMail), we get an SMS from fido, with the source address being +18. I personally find this annoying and would much rather have the "normal" behaviour of having a status icon alerting me that I have a new voicemail. That way, I can quickly know if I received a new VM or a new SMS. With Fido, you actually have to check the SMS to see if it's a normal SMS or if it is the +18 notification that Fido sends.
So that's what my app does. It monitors incoming SMS and when it detects an SMS form +18, it gives the user a notification that a new VM has arrived, with the proper icon.
I hope that explains it better!
FYI: The acronym "VM" typically is used for "Virtual Machine".

I've always seen voicemail referred to as VM, just like callerid is referred to as CID. Anyways, that's just a detail and I made the modification in the first post.
Is it possible to have working this app. on HTC One S?
I installed it, but can't find nowhere!

I don't know why you'd need it, every Android system since 1.0 can display Voicemail notifications. I believe some carriers, in the early days, didn't do this properly, which is why this app was created. Still, it shouldn't be needed today, your HTC One S should have this capability built-in and your carrier should be able to use it just fine.
Hello.
Tried reading through the pages that popped under the search option, but couldnt get either the CAB file to work (didnt download)
I've been in contact with HTC support and my Service provider. Both accuse each other of faulty programming.
My problem is:
Every MMS I recieve, shows as 25KB, and are small as thumbnails. Every MMS I send to people, they recieve as 25KB.. If I check my own sent image from my phone, it shows as normal (probably around 117kb with gives fullscreen photo).
Now this started to happen after the Android version 4.0.4 was updated on my phone, and the new HTC Sense version (3.6 or whatever).
Is there any way to bypass this, also tried with Handsam SMS or what the name was with little to no luck.
Will installing a custom ROM work? My settings look OK, 300kb etc. Also tried getting new settings from my service provider with no luck in changes.
