I did a quick search on this but couldn't find it. Anyway is it possible to add mms to your phone? I currently have to goto the providers website and view to photos and most time that site doesn't work. So i was just wondering if there is a way of adding this. I don't know much about this stuff so no need to point and laugh if it isn't possible.
well, yes. depends on your carrier.
it is telus
I realy don't understand your question.
The diamond has MMS support.
Are you asking for the settings for your provider?
TDO
ok so then whenever someone sends me a text with a picture or a video i have to log onto the website to view those pictures or videos. My question is just like most flip phones that get them sent directly to their phone is it possible to do that aswell with a smart phone. I only had this phone and a blackberry and they are both the same in that i have to log into the telus website to view any texts sent to me with media attached to them. also i have to email people my photos instead of just texting them which i also hate.
it will get directly to your phone if the mms settings are correct setup with the
settings from your provider
I had the same problem (using T-Mobile UK), all I got was a text message with a URL to T-Mobile's site.
To fix it, just send an MMS to yourself! For some reason, you need to send an MMS before you can receive one (at least that was the case with T-Mobile).
Try it and see if this fixes your problem.
yea for me it was the same,
i called tmobile why its so scarry, they told me that they need to know if your device supports MMS and the best way is to see an mms coming from your device so they can be sure that u are working on an mms enabled device.

I have an AT&T Tilt. I hit soft reset after a hard reset so that the bloatware didn't install. I can send text messages no problem. I cannot send a picture message. I can sometimes receive them, but I cannot send them from my phone. I have been trying to send them to a Verizon phone and have not tried an AT&T phone. Has anyone had a similar issue where they weren't able to send a picture message and resolved it?
tytn/tytn II mms
Never worked with wm6 correctly (finland, tytn/tytnII)
-Using port 9201 & WAP version 1.2 -> MMS under 70k possible to send and receive, higher not (when sending , it just hangs in 99%).
-Using port 8080 & WAP version 2.0 -> MMS up to 600k send ok, never able to receive "errMsg: error" (your messages cannot be downloaded).
This is only my experience (Elisa Finland). other providers and countries propably work ok.
anyone?
You won't have your AT&T operator settings installed with the method you used to eliminate the 'bloatware' Search for the Network settings cab on this forum as it may help you.
I found out the problem. AT&T can send and receive up to 600k. Verizon can only receive and send up to 350K. I had to change the outbound pictures to QVGA size and had to adjust the video to a smaller file. I guess different have different size limitations. In case anyone else experiences this problem, you need to adjust your settings.
Removing the bloatware does not remove any of the phone settings. It just remove the unnecessary software.
Please go back and edit your start post Title to this thread with {fixed} then others can use it for reference. Cheers and well done.
I've asked this a couple other places, with no success yet...
What does it take to do MMS on one of these things? I've had Arcsoft MMS Composer suggested many times, but FINDING the thing has been impossible. Arcsoft goes on about it at length on their website, mostly about how various mobile providers are bundling it... but mine (Telus) isn't. They don't have a trial download, they don't list it in their store, they don't list anyone who sells it, and they don't even list a price (MSRP or otherwise).
So, does anyone know where I can find this thing? I don't mind paying (a reasonable amount) for a legitimate copy, IF I could find it!
Or suggest something else that might work...?
Thanks.
I know nothing about MMS. But I may have two leads.
I was just looking in a thread about YouTube on the S730, and followed the instructions to install support for it. I think ended up with support for MMS. TCPMP may come with it. If not, the flash plugin may add support. Both are available at www.ytpocket.com. A link on the home page provides tools and instructions for installing both. Free.
As I was composing this note, I checked the file association settings for CoreCodeC. They include MMS. Not free.
Hmm, not sure if we're talking about the same thing. I'm talking about Multimedia Messaging Service - aka Picture Messaging, as opposed to just Text Messaging (SMS). In other words, the ability to "text" someone's phone with an attached picture.
This doesn't appear to have anything to do with that, but I tried it anyway, just for giggles... didn't make any difference to my problem.
Thanks anyway though, it'll be neat having YouTube on my phone
I'm not sure what you are getting at? MMS support is built into the phone? You just go to Message > New > MMS ??
That's the way it should work. With the old standard phones (my RAZR, my V710, my wife's LG, my Treo 650) you can just snap a pic with the camera, go "Send picture", and enter a contact, and it sends straight to their phone, same as you would a text message.
Windows Mobile 5 included this function. 6 apparently doesn't. There's a third-party app that some providers have chosen to include to provide the functionality, but Telus isn't one of them.
WM6 does after all I'm using WM6 and it's in my phone. It looks like that for whatever strange reason your firmware has removed that option.
From what I've been able to determine, MMS support *is not* native to WM6, at least not Standard version. WM6S phones that have it, are generally using Arcsoft MMS Composer, as bundled into the OS by the specific wireless carrier.
This, at least, is the best information I've been able to come up with between this forum and a few others.

I just started the photo app, chose album, selected a picture, chose "Send via MMS" from the menu, and saw a dialog that sure seemed to let me compose a message. I didn't check whether it really did. All this on an HTC S730 (WM 6).
Hmm, alright, mine doesn't quite do that... it has a Send option that lets me select a mail account to use, and Text Message is grayed out.
Apparently though, that's something that's common to almost all HTC phones except those that Telus provides
For people with contracts that include data, are there open mms servers (not your operator's) that you can use to actually send messages to other phones? For example, see this thread: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=1164754
It seems to suggest that [email protected]ix is set up as standard for receiving mms messages? If so, how do I find out what my SomeAddressForYourOperator.suffix is?
also wanted to know this
figure i might aswell revive the dead instead of making a new thread
thanks
anyone have more info on this?

I'm sure there isn't. But I'm pretty sure you don't need a data plan. My old RAZR did it just fine without a data plan. I know from experience that you can't send or receive mms over wifi
MMS is solely and OTA event. You also do not need a data plan to view an MMS. You do, however, need the proper settings in your phone before it will DL a MMS OTA.
As for sending one over WiFi, yes, it is called email and IMing.

you used to be able to, but T-Mobile took care of that, and the APN is now blocked so you can't send or receive the mms messages. Kinda sucks.
settings for MMS over wifi?
pcforpres mentions settings in order to be able to read MMS over wifi, what are the settings? I'm also interested in reading MMS messages over wifi. It would be awesome if I could read/write MMS messages as well, since I do have the unlimited sms/mms with the G1. Obviuosly, I don't have the data plan yet. Thanks!
i think it would be pretty useful.... cause i dont get 3G service in my room or good service at all , and sometimes its impossible to even send an sms

I did not say you could send MMS over WiFi, I said you could only send MMS OTA, which means Over The Air, aka through your carrier's network.
The reason people can't send MMS with cooked ROMs most of the time is because they do not enter their carriers settings into the phone, just like you need to enter the data settings. Sometimes, the date account settings and MMS settings are one in the same, but most of the time they are not.
As well, MMS are independent from having a data account. Every single carrier allows any customer to send and recieve MMS for a nominal fee whether they have a data plan or not. Some bundle MMS in with text while others with data, but MMS is independent of both of those services in terms of network protocol and phone settings(with a few exceptions where if you have a data plan, it is the same setting that your phone uses to do MMS and internet)
WiFi and MMS
Thanks PCJforPres. Per your previous post "MMS is solely and OTA event. You also do not need a data plan to view an MMS. You do, however, need the proper settings in your phone before it will DL a MMS OTA.

You mention you do not need a data plan to view an MMS. I'm currently able to receive the MMS, but not able to download it. Is this what you are saying as well? or can we actually read it via wifi? Are there proper settings to use with no data plan? These MMS messages I somtimes get are just text, but for some reason they come in as MMS. SMS works great. Any thoughts or solutions?
Yes, you must set up your phone with proper MMS and SMS settings for your carrier. MMS does not need dataplan.

What is likely happening is that you do not have the proper MMS settings, either the ROM doesn't have the MMS application, or you have yet to set the settings up. So instead of getting the MMS, you get just the text with a blank "image" box or whatever because it cannot connect to the server to download the data portion. There is no way to us WiFi to do this, because the internet has no way of accessing your carriers network and obtaining that info. It is stuck in your carriers routing system, and after X amount of time will be deleted if you do not download it.
Call your carriers CS line and ask them what the proper settings are for MMS, even if they say they don't support the G1, insist that they tell you the manual settings for a smart phone... you should get APN info, Proxy and Port info, default website info(this is the site it downloads from technically), network type (ie is it WAP, Secure WAP, HTTP, Secure HTTP)... there might be more or less info needed, but those are the basics.
You can usually search the interwebs for this info as well.

And these APN settings are far and few to find but good luck if you find them, I have tried everything, every different type of APN for T-Mobile US and had absolutely no luck.
These are not facts but my own conclusion about this: What I'm afraid is that Android pushes all MMS activity through the data connection anyhow. Because after using another T-Mobile SIM, with the data connection, I was instantly able to download all my MMS pictures. So I don't think there is any correct APN setting for MMS to work without the data plan sadly. That's why I started a thread awhile ago to hopefully build support.. but I guess most people out there have the data plan or no data plan + no messaging or simply just don't care about MMS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559805
I'm just hoping that somebody will try to fix this problem eventually, but like I've discovered there just isn't much demand for it. Personally, I want to get into Android dev but I can't say how long it'll take me to learn the ropes plus if I'll even be able to do anything about it myself.
MMS over wifi
Yeah, it is crazy that MMS is not available over wifi that we know of. I was going to call tmobile for the APN, but from reading it sounds like MMS by default goes over there new data APN? no clue. What a crappy way to make money for tmobile that they have to force customers to have the data plan. At least SMS works and other functions over wifi (which is really all I need). I don't have time for non-stop data access for my phone. Yeah, hopefully there will be an alternate fix to access MMS over wifi or another APN. Any ideas or does any one have a working APN they can provide?
I guess I'll try tmobile again for a valid APN.
Okay I may have a mms fix for boost, but it is in .cab format and I'm not sure how or if I can use it. any ideas will help.
APN Settings for MMS on Boost
I'm currently running Incubus26Jc's Super FroYo 2.2 [Deodexed] [RLS12] on my Vogue, on Boost Mobile's network, and I am able to send MMS by attaching picture files in text messaging. The only settings I changed were in the default APN:
MMSC: mm.myboostmobile.com (add http: and // in front. Since this is my first post I'm not allowed to post URLs )
MMS port: 80
No other changes to the APN settings are necessary to send MMS.
I'm pretty sure that it's impossible to receive an actual MMS on Boost's network. You will get the text message with a link to the Media Mail page (which never works, at least for me).

yea i think we would need a media mail app to do so. I have the same issue on my sprint hero. I just visit mediamail.boostmobile.com to view my messages from my phone.

Can someone please help me? I used the mm.myboostmobile.com and get a 'error-permanent-system failure' when getting receiving pic mail but could send. Also, my hubby who uses a Boost BB gets a blank message. So I used pcs-boost-mmsc-submit.sun3.lightsurf.net. and I was able to not send media mail but receive it without any problems. I have an energy ROM and using the Arcsoft MMS version you have above. This is so ridiculous. Do I have to use mms program specially for my Sense Energy CRX ROM or what? I do not understand what's wrong with this? Is it because I have an Energy ROM?

Just keep waiting and testing it out, it's not device specific it appears to be network and location specific, read more here: "http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1721560-New-Boost-Mobile-MMS-Settings"
I haven't had a chance to dig my vogue out and try this, but I was thinking you guys might want to grap the mms.apk file from the shabbymod Rom for the Prevails and see if allows MMS texts to pass on through as normal.
