Hi, I've used the search feature but I cant find an answer.
What i would like to do is connect my laptop to a wireless network using my kaisers wireless capabilities. Is this possible? Any help with this would be greatly recieved.
Sounds unnecessarily messy - why not just get a useb/pcmcia wireless adpater for the lappy?

He may be using an old laptop or wants to experiment??
Search in the forum for WMWifirouter and make sure you read them all as there are aspects of heat from third party batteries to take into consideration.

I was thinking, if my Kaiser is connected to a wireless network with Internet access, and my laptop is connected to my Kaiser will my laptop be able to access the Internet? Will i need 3rd party software to enable this?
From what i understand the Internet Sharing application in Comm Manager uses my mobile data plan, not any connected wireless networks. Am i correct in saying this?

Ahh, Yes you are. I got the wrong end of the stick...
No sorry, there is not any package out there to do this. It would not really be of much use as WiFi USB dongles are so cheap nowadays.

I've been reading some threads on turning the Kaiser into a wireless router, and was wondering if anyone had succesfully connected a Sony PSP to it? What am trying to do is use the Remote Play and Location Free features.
ever figure out how to get this done?
I have same setup as you as far as hardware.. for software i am using duttys 6.1 RTM on the kaiser and CFW 3.71 on the psp slim.

The obvious question is why? It (PSP) connects wirelessly to your home network. 3G is fast but is it fast enough for on line gaming?
Remote play mostly just accesses content from your PS3 , pictures, music, not games , thru the internet.

1.Having the cell phone (3g HSDPA UMTS EDGE, GPRS in my case) would enable my psp to have an internet connection while mobile in the car. That is the biggest reason.
2.I already use WMWifiRouter to enable my passengers to use wifi on their notebooks while travelling. I would like to stream movies(very doable over 3g) to my psp so my son can watch them on the go.
3. I have a modded psp running CFW and I can do much more than play games on it. Many of the modded features are network reliant or network ready such as VNC, Streaming video from the PSP, youtube, watching Live tv, and of course accessing my media server through my ps3 at home. All on a much bigger screen than my kaiser.
4.Youtube, browsing internet(even with opera), screen size, OS performance still sucks on the kaiser, the graphics still suck(pending the new rom from htc).

but as youll see on there i already posted There is one user who says he got it to work but i highly doubt he was connected to the phone or could even see it during a scan especially if he "didnt set anything up" and "it just worked" mods feel free to merge the threads. This has to be possible. Of course this is coming from somebody who doesnt know how to cook in the winmo world or the psp cfw world. I wish i could give a little less conversation with allot more action but i dont even know where to start learning how to cook.

this i can help with Just simply go to the first sticky underneath the Kaiser-Rom development forum and their you will find instructions on where to download the "kaiser kitchen" and also information about how to dump and reconstruct roms etc. etc.

I have never used WMWifiRouter although it was always my understanding that does exactly what you are asking (make a WAP for access from any device). And indeed you are doing that, so I can only surmise there is something weird with how the PSP accesses it? I know i would have issues with my PSP when trying to connect to a hidden (non broadcast) SSID.
Anyway, it looks like WMWifiRouter had gone commercial..maybe it is updated to work better? You can download a trial and see, and possibly email for support. Tell them you want to buy it if it will work with PSP. I really don't know how it can advertise it is working as a WAP if a device can't connect to it. Assuming the devices all use the same 802.11 standard and support the same encryption protocols. Otherwise, his software isn't really doing what it says... but again I haven't really investigated it.
wmwifirouter creates an on-demand wireless connection, which is quite different from a wireless access point. When you use another laptop to connect through your kaiser's 3G via wmwifi, it's basically like an adhoc wireless connection. The psp doensn't support adhoc wifi for internet,(only for psp-psp communication) or on-demand wifi.
What you could try is using your laptop to connect to wmwifirouter and then using softAP to turn your laptop into a wireless access point and THEN use your psp to connect to your laptop. Then again its way to complicated to be viable, so just forget it

Right I just downloaded and played with the trial and see what you mean. I think your workaround using ICS on the laptop will definitely work, and you might be able to automate thes setup with some netsh commands...but it would definitely take 5-10 mins to set up manually.
Other than that research the CF on the PSP to see if anyone figured a way to connect ad-hoc... I haven't been on the PSP scene for about 6 months, so I don't know what is new.

no no.. good thinking.. and not so complicated at that. Thanks for providing a solution and not bashing the attempt. Ill attempt this and let you know. I do have an old POS laptop i can reimage and set in the car with wake on lan active for the remote times.
I am thinking of using my Kaiser this weekend as an internet feed for my laptop to watch my Slingbox.
I have done this in the past using WMWifiRouter and it has worked pretty well.
I am wondering if there is a better way to do it though with a direct USB connection between my Kaiser and the laptop?

IMHO, direct USB connection using "Internet Sharing" is the best way for your PDA battery.. using bluetooth or WMwifirouter are much worse..
instead, u can use your simcard with broadband modem and save the PDA lifespan.. well its another story..

Yes any major carrier will have USB 'aircards'. There are also unbranded options available, example http://www.sierrawireless.com/product/AC880U_881U.aspx

if i understand correctly, you want to share the internet on your laptop with your nexus.
You need to configure your wifi on the laptop as accesspoint and connect the nexus with it.

Is there any way to do this without a Wireless network card? Since I'm on the other side of the house and get intermittent signal with my N1's wifi. Can it be done using the USB cable? aka reverse tethering?
I don't think android supports this "reverse tethering". Actually I think only WinMo phones support it via Activsync, which is automatic as soon as you plug in your USB.

Is there a way set up a non-ad hoc network on the laptop because the N1 is not compatible with ad hoc networks?
Although you can set up a software AP on your laptop, consider buying a WiFi access point. That way your laptop won't have to be plugged in either And its way easier to setup.
If you are using Windows 7 on your laptop, you can use Connectify (url is connectify.me) to convert your laptop into a wifi hotspot, which you can then connect your N1 to (via wifi)

Also just to let you guys know stock android does not let you connect to ad-hoc network sharing like some mentioned earlier. The devices does not see ad-hoc networks.

I've been all over this connection and sharing internet connetion thing these days, and today it seems so close to work:
I paired my N7 and laptop on bluetooth, laptop with IVT driver, and N7 clearly shows in bluetooth - paired devices - profiles, under internet access, "connected to device for internet access".
yet all apps on N7 still say no connection.
god somebody pls help me!! It just doesn't make any sense!
btw, I did tick the option of "internet access sharing" and selected the bluetooth network in the settings of the internet accessing connection on my laptop.
I just don't understand whatever went wrong...

i've searched my query here in this forum but still couldn't find the exact solution.
Im pretty new to this entire "android" platform. just got my nexus one rooted and unlocked.
my only concern here is regarding "wifi Problem". I've got linksys Compact wirelss-G USB adapter (WUSB54GC).
Now I don't know how to access it just like a router.
Secondly, When i started using it with nexus one it connected without any flaw. But some days after It's not connecting with N1, having said that
I've also used this adapter with Ipad2 and sometimes the wifi doesn't connect to the ipad2 properly.
Now how I was connecting like I always delete the existing adhoc connection and create another one and then try to connect... after few tries it connects but after few days N1 says obtainig IP address... and in windows 7 the status says connected with "no network access"
I tried "WEP and other protocols" and also without any encyption as well but nothing is working here.
Actually In our country we dont have 3G network we're still on EDGE and that costs us much so here I'm relying on my home USB 1MB connection to use it via adapter.

I am not familiar with Oxygenmod, but if it is Gingerbread based, I would highly recommend updating your radio to 5.08.

Thanks... But let me update it that I've just updated to 5.12 radio... I was too curious that's y i played the bet. after update nothing seems to me different network signals are same i.e 100% blutooth working and havnt tried EDGE. WiFi still not working and stuck at "obtaining IP address"

I don't believe these phones have proper support for ADHOC, but it seems it is more of a computer problem if the ipad is having issues as well. Is there a reason you are trying to do an adhoc wireless network instead of getting a cheap wireless router?

well it's the first time I've got this USB adapter so I only know of this adhoc connection being made in win 7. havnt experienced a router though.
but could u please confirm if any cheap router supports my USB internet connection? (i dont have a DSL connection rather wireless)

I doubt any router would support the usb wireless adapter, but you can use windows internet connection sharing to share the connection through the wired connection. Then you can hook the router into your ethernet port on your computer and share the connection that way.
Definitely not the easiest, but I have never tried sharing an internet connection through an adhoc wireless connection.

I think I need to clear something here....
My ISP gave me a USB called (EVO), I just plug that "EVO" into my computer and I can download upto 3.1Mbps and browse and surf yada yada...
then I bought "linksys USB adapter" to make my internet connection WiFi.
Now how would I connect my N1 to internet via WiFi when u say "adhoc" is not supported.
Is there anything apart from what "Bassmadrigal" suggested.? (caz it sounds too technical for me)
I don't know if ADHOC is actually supported (and if it is, how well it is supported) on Android. But if you are having issues with devices other than your phone, then I think it is going to be a computer issue that probably won't be able to be fixed with any devices on your phone.
I can try to make it a bit more non-techincal...
Buy a cheap wireless router and use the router's guide to get a wireless network set up
Plug in the network cable from the computer's network card to the "internet" port on the router
Follow this guide to get Internet Connection Sharing up and running on your computer

to do that, i need to have USB tethering enabled on HP touchpad. would this be possible?

If your desktop is connected via Ethernet but has wireless capabilities there is an app for PC's called connectify that can make your PC a wireless hotspot .

What exactly is your setup is your desktop connected by Ethernet to a wireless router, how is the tablet connected.
what is that you are trying to achieve, the more info you can give the easier it will be for me to replicate and hopefully come up with an answer.

my hp touchpad can connect via wifi, but it's a lot slower than a wired connection. i want to try achieving FULL/near full speed download on my hp touchpad, by reverse tethering to the desktop's ethernet connection.
the desktop is connected to the wireless router through a powerline adapter, i.e. wired ethernet and is achieving full speed on its own.
One thing to note is that you'll not notice too big of a speed boost if you are connecting to the internet. The reason being, your ISP has a throughput speed of say 25 MBits a sec down and 5 up (In a hypothetical situation). Your wireless is usually up to 54 (on wireless G), and wired is either 10/100/1000 MBits. However, you are still throttled by your ISP, who runs at 25. So tethering via USB won't net you faster speeds to Dropbox, but it might for local network related things, like streaming from a local PC, transferring files, RDP, etc.
Just a thought to share, hopefully it helps.
Oh, and running through the power line like that is a messy way to do it. Home power is noisy and slows down your network speeds. Just sayin', I hope I don't offend.

This is the thread that keeps coming up in google searches, and since it was never answered, figured its time for a bump.
I´m in a similar situation atm, Ive got no access to data or wifi as Im traveling abroad.
Cyber cafes abound, and id love to use this app as well, but.. i get the same error.
Im surprised as id assumed CM would have all such features builtin. No big that it doesnt, im just not sure how to add it.
Any help?
(and yes, ive tried to get the other method working, but having trouble getting adb to detect the tablet, that method works on my phone, but id prefer a method that fakes 3g, since that other method doesnt work with many apps)
The problem is the to connect anything to the TP USB connector and get it to work needs power injected into the interface (hence the need for Y cables when using an OTG cable). This ends up as so complicated, that most give up and decide to use WiFi tethering. Also, I am not sure anyone has found a way to get the necessary drivers into the kernel.
