okay so this is a new problem... if I plug my tilt in to my car charger, the battery actually drains faster than if it's unplugged... about a percentage a minute... when I come home and plug it... it charges regularly. I've tried 2 different roms, 3 different radios and 2 different car chargers... any ideas? been doing a lot of soft resets lately, wondering if that would burn the battery out?
new revelation!
okay so after my car charger "drains" my battery... I put the regular charger in and charge it from 74% to 85% in about 20 minutes... then I took the battery out and put it back in.. upon reboot my battery is at 97%... does this mean the car charger is somehow ACTUALLY charging the battery but for some reason making the phone think it's discharging it... this is tricky.

is the battery heating up while it is charging in the car?
I don't think so... I'm not 100% but I'd probabally remember something liek that
I just remember it was dropping like crazy after I plugged it in.. once it jumped from 39% to 34% when I was using it while it was plugged in for 4 minutes

sorry, should have asked in my first post but are you running TomTom or similar?
no, no abnormal software... even turned off the 3g and wifi... I'm starting to think it's not actual battery drainage because of how fast it's dying.... it dropped to 2% and shut itself off last night when I plugged it in.. took 5 minutes to go from 28% to "dead" then when I was charging it in my house that night it slowly went from 0% to 45% then it jumped to 98% and was full.. I'm so confused
Maybe let the battery drain out all the way so the phone won't even turn on, and then charge it back up. I've never heard of this happening before, but I know the phone has to "calibrate" the battery, for lack of a better word. Draining the battery all the way lets the phone set a "zero point". I dunno if it will help, but it would be worth a try.
haha it kinda did that on it's own last night... recharged it, it's got the same problem as of 20 minutes ago.. maybe it'll work itself out.... but I really need to be able to plug it into my car.
This is my second Tilt I'm playing with as the first one after I messed around with started to act funny.
1) Battery would be 100% - I wake up 6 hours later and it's dead.
2) Network consistently was being dropped even though it stated I was connected.
I've spend 5 hours on this site reading now and still don't know if I've learned much lol
Good luck to you...
Check the USB port. Is it slightly bent on the right side? I had this same problem & had to RMA. I confirmed that there was higher discharge using SK Tools & Anton Tomov Batery Meter. However, home charger still worked fine.

YES! the usb port looks a little messed up on the very last pin.. WTF? it looks squished or something... RMA? that doesn't sound good.. I hope I dont have to RMA... what's RMA? but yes there is definately something messed up about the right side of the USB port

Hmm... I would charge to 100% (or near enough) unplug it and then put the media player on and play it solid on repeat until the battery dies. Then charge it up to full again and see if there is any difference. These batteries don't have a memory as such, but as the previous poster said it may have got itself slightly 'confused'
Same problem here with a carcomm cradle for the TyTN II,. When I plug my phone in, the orange light comes on, the phone says it is charging but the battery just seems to drain faster and after a couple of minutes the light goes out. I have BatteryStatus installed, when I connect the phone to my pc with the standard usb/synch cable BatteryStatus shows +0mW for a short while and after a few seconds it'll say it's at +1300mW or something like that.
In the car when I put the phone in the cradle it'll show +0mW for a few seconds, then around -250mW (Idle) and the orange light turns off...
But I actually caught it charging once with +22mW when turning it on (from standby). I tried all obvious things, softresetting the phone while charging etc. But nothing helps, the cradle is connected straight to the carbattery.

It's a little bend downwards (when having the screen on top) @ the last 2 pins...
well looks like we've narrowed down the problem.. and it looks like the fix is gonna cost $80!!

What kind of carcharger do you have? Been reading about this problem and alot of ppl say the charger needs to be able to put out at least 1A for the phone to charge, I used some cheap cigarettelighter charger that was rated @ 650mA. It worked but charged so slowly that it would've taken days to fully charge. And besides that it didn't last long, 3 days before it blew the fuse and some more parts (worked for 2 secs after replacing the fuse)
I've tried several different ones... I think that since 3 people on this site all seem to have a "crushed" pin in our USB ports that's probabally the issue... now.. about a fix...
The amperage on your charger doesn't really matter. 1 amp is recommended so that you can use the device while charging, and the rate at which the battery charges does not diminish. If you used a 500mA charger, and had wi-fi & gps on, and media player blasting, for example, the battery may not charge at all because all the power coming from the charger is being used immediately. 1 amp chargers remedy this problem. Hope this makes sense, I've been having problems finding the correct words to express my ideas lately. Probably just stressed out! It sounds like the bent pin on the usb port may be resulting in a V+ pin shorting to ground (or V-). Which would drain the battery quickly. When you use battery power or charge the battery, it is normal for the battery to get warm. When you plug yours into the car charger (the one that drains it) does the battery get abnormally hot? This would indicate a short. Maybe try to put a real thin piece of film or something under the bent part of the port to insulate it while charging and see if that fixes it. This might offer a temporary fix until you get a new port. Maybe you could spend some time learning how to solder! I had to fix a broken port on a wizard a those solder points are friggin' tiny. Hope I could help. Good luck.

hi, new member here.
bought my tilt on 10/4/07. has been flawless since that time.
used the nav quite a bit during a road trip, used a cig lighter usb charger.
got home and my battery was at roughly 40%.
put it on the charger at night went to sleep. in morning disconnected it at 8 am. shortly after i arrived at work i got the critical battery low chime. checked and it had like 7% battery life.
figured i didnt plug it in right, or it got knocked loose some how and didnt get charged.
put it in flight mode to minimize battery usage. left work at 2 30 pm (4% battery life) and put it on the car charger. got home and put it on the HTC supplied wall charger. light turned amber, so i assumed it was charging.
checked an hour later and turned phone on, it said 0%, and immediately died. left it on the charger for a few hours and the light was still amber, turned it back on and again 0% and phone immediately died and did a soft reset on its own. i turned the phone off and left it on the ac charger, took out the sim card and put it in an old blackberry to use while the battery was charging.
its been on the ac wall charger for the last several hours, i checked and the phone is totally dead, cannot turn it on, and the LED at the top is now RED.
what is the problem here? why wont this thing charge?
thanks in advance, i have alot of critical info on this device and any help would be greatly appreciated.
i cannot hard reset because i cannot turn the flippign thing on....
Does it charge when you connect it to your computer? If it does, then your charger is toast. If not, then it's probably the phone itself.
I'd try a different charger first. If that makes no difference then a different battery. If that still does not make any difference then time to exchange it.

connected to either the computer or the wall charger, the LED thats normally amber when charging, and green when charged, remains red.
I had something very similar happen to my wizard.
And as weird as it sounds, the only fix was to charge the battery in a friends wizard on his charger. I'd check the battery if possible.
Could be the battery. Know any place or anyone that will let you try a charged battery? If not, you might have to go in to an AT&T store.
i think i got it working. did some reading/browsing...
took a usb wire and cut the mini usb head off. dissected it and found the the red and black charging wires. took out the battery and held the leads to teh battery while the other end was plugged into a USB/AC adapter wall charger from a old blackberry. after manually charging the battery for several minutes, i put the battery back in the phone and the phone started up. now it seems to be charging off the wall charger and the led is now amber from red.
thanks for all your help/suggestions.
well it worked briefly. the amber light has gone back to red and it seems that the battery is not charging.
dont know what happened to my perfectly functioning phone.

Repeat this proceedure but this time do not turn the phone on, just plug it in to the wall charger once you have zapped the battery again.
Turning your phone on probably just caused the already recovering battery to die whiles it is trying to take on a charge.
It is mentioned quite a lot on the boards that Li-Ion Batteries do not like being over disscharged and there is usually a little protection circuit in the battery to provent complete disscharging although this circuit may be on board the phone. Completely disscharging a Li-Ion cell will kill it stone dead and it will need replacing.
When you took the battery out and so called jump started it with your flying leads, this possibly reset the little protection circuit in the battery so it can now take on a charge. I feel that once you turned on the phone, this was to much for the already depleted cell to take and possibly re-tripped its inbuilt circuit.
If you do manage to recover you cell, in future it is good practice not to let the battery go below about 25%. Li-ion cells are generally happy being top off regularly.
I hope this helps buddy
Do let us know!
Cheers

thanks, that was very helpful.
ive tried defibrillating this battery out of the dead several more times to no avail.
ill try it one more time when i get home from work, if its a no go i will go to teh att core store. the phone is 6 weeks old, dont know what they can do for me if the battery is toast...

I had exactly the same problem with my battery. It came on though after a day. Although the battery life after this happened went down to 10hrs max on standby. I sent the phone back and got a new one and now all is fine.
This is a problem that affects almost all makes of phone. There are three (main) causes of the problem:
1.
The battery charge drops too low to allow the charging circuit to recognise a battery is even in place (red no charge light stays lit)
possible solution:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...22&postcount=6
(in the end very similar in the end to the USB wire used in post above)
2.
A faulty battery (but if you can charge it using a cut usb cable or using a couple of AA batteries this may not be a faulty battery.
3.
A faulty charger OR a charger not delivering 5v at 1000mA as the OEM one does. Many chargers that are used for other phones or generic chargers only deliver 500mA. This is not enough when your battery drops very low. (these chargers are OK for occasional use but I do not advise using them regularly particularly if the no-charge syndrome has shown itself)
4.
A faulty USB connection on the phone. I have now seen a couple of reports where the fine wire connections in the phones USB port have become bent out of place.
Number 4 above is at least possible for the OP as it seems the battery will charge using a cut USB cable but not when either the PC USB cable or mains charger is connected. A USB port on the phone with a a bent internal contact would explain what's happening.
A previous poster was able with a needle or similar to bend the contact back into place.
Mike
i had the same problem with my phone.
put it in the charger overnight and woke up in the morning and couldnt turn on the phone with blinking red light. I don't know if my battery was over-drained though. I went to AT&T and was playing around with their charger and new battery and somehow the so-called dead battery started working again. They changed the SIM card on my phone there and then i haven't been able to use the phone since. I've changed the network to GSM instead of Auto setting under Phone Options which allows us to make calls; but now I can't connect to 3G network.
Charging thru mini usb
My phone started to exhibit similar problems...plugged in but no charging of the battery. I finally realized that my mini usb connection on the phone has been compromised (bent, distorted=not functioning properly) Now I have to prop the mini usb connection up at a slight angle to engage the charge. I think the plastic/metallic connector on the phone is somewhat fragile ...I had similar issues with my hermes.
called customer support.
they are sending me a new phone and battery.
how do i know its not a refurbished one? any clues?
before u send out your defect phone, have u check if your phone's mini-USB connector has bent or misaligned pins?
yeah all the connectors visually are fine.
Well I'm at about 2% battery life, and it will not charge. I'm using my computer to charge it. Charging it from the wall hasnt worked for me for a while, not sure why.
Anyway I was wondering what it can be? I doubt my battery's dead or something is wrong with the phone... I'm sorry if this question's been answered, but I couldnt find an answer on google.
If USB charging works, but not charging with the AC adapter then the adapter is either bad, or plugged into a bad power outlet.
Nope it's neither of those because Ive tried two working AC ountlets and two warking cables. However, that's not my problem, my phone died and I can't charge it :-/
Ya so the phone died. It didn't look like it was going to charge on the USB, really weird. Anyone ever have there phone refusing to charge? While it was alive I tried to run activesync; that didn't work. So what should I do?
Btw, I've had the phone for a couple months now and I haven't had any big problems. I don't think it can be my phone failing, worst case just the battery. I've had something similar before but it fixed itself, doesn't look like thats happeneing now.
Battery
Maybe charging from the computer wasn't such a good idea. I recommend changing the battery and the charger and always be a nice boy and charge from the outlet ::- ).
I had the same thing happen to me - the connector at the bottom was broken. I had to do a return to factory. I looked (using a magnifying class) at the bottom of the phone and clearly see a crack in the connector.
It doesn't charge from the outlet.... I kinda just explained that lol

Hmm my connector does look a little bent. However it would of had to be like this before, and it was charging until I let my battery get to 5% :-/
I had a similar problem with my Kaiser a couple of weeks ago - it started to crawl and a soft reset took over 15 minutes to come back up to a working state, after which the battery wouldn't charge. It definitely wasn't the charger at fault as that still works on my TyTN. Phone was about 3 months old, so called Vodafone UK who seemed to think it was software related and so provided next day swap out. Old battery works in the new handset so never did get to find out if it was hardware or software that caused it to die.
Here's what probabally happened... you meant to stick you stylus in the reset hole and accidently put it in the usb hole... thus bending your charging port. I did it and when I plugged it into my car it would actually discharge the battery.. but when I plugged it into an outlet it just wouldn't charge.. if I were you I'd go see if it charges in a car
I appear to have a similar issue when charging from PC usb, and have identified that if I put pressure up or down on the charger it will charge the kaiser. But if plug in the charger without applying directional force it will not charge. Currently i have a small weight resting on the mini USB chargin input.
So obviously something up with the connector. But I haven't jammed anything up the usb port to my knowledge. Are these ports really that flimsy?
Tilt owners: If charge mechanism breaks, is ATT cool?
Oh no, now I can't charge or sync my Tilt.
My power is slowly running out.
What do I do? This is covered by manufacturers warranty in a year, is
ATT going to take my Tilt back and give me a new one?
I need my phone to be working and working well.
Thoughts?

Charging from the computer should be better than the wall, given that the USB ports on the computer have a 5.5v output, while wall chargers have 5v.
Ok where do I begin. I love this phone but it's driving me nuts and that's supposed to be your girlfriend/wifes job. My phone seems to be charging EXTREMELY slow. I have batterystatus installed on my phone and when the phone is charging you see the progress bar moving. I've been charging my phone for about 2 1/2 hours now and I'm only at 57 percent, not even using it or having email come to my phone. I'm coming to the conclusion that my battery is shot and I will have to get a new one. Last night I was using my phone and it was charging by my bed. I wake up this morning and the orange LED is on (indicating that it's charging) I'm like wtf it should be green because I've slept for 8 HOURS! I unhook the phone and the battery is at 0 percent and the phone just shuts off on me. I charge the phone and managed to get it to 25 percent before leaving for work. Right now I have my phone plugged into the wall and its taking forever to charge. Should I reflash my ROM and RADIO again. I've been holding off on buying an extended battery because I'm waiting for Seido 3000 Mah Battery.
It's a cheaper option to reflash before spending the money on a new batt.

i know that some radios will eat up ur battery and cause rapid drainage, however i can't conclude that as no idea what rom/radio u r using. i doubt if flashing new rom is gona help. flash a different compatible radio and c if that helps; if not ur sol and probably need new battery.
peace,

You could try putting the phone in flight mode to rule out a radio problem. Assuming no running programs in memory I would conclude a battery or charging circuit issue. I assume both mains charger and USB have been tried.
Ensure battery contacts are clean and the contacts on the phone.
You could try the wiggling the battery on and off the phone contacts method as used for the RLOD issue, just in case the charging circuit needs a kick start. The only note of caution here is that there are two cases (to my knowledge) of this trick possibly causing the rasdio to fail. So if I was trying this I would certainly have it in flight mode first - it is afterall a very crude method of forcing pulses of charge through the circuit.
Mike
I've been using Schaps 4.31 (only rom I have ever flashed, very satisfied with it)
Radio: 1.27.15.32
Problem just started 2 days ago. I tried plugging into another outlet thinking that maybe there was a problem with the outlet I was using and the same thing happens.
I feel like my kaiser is on life support, it hurts. I have to keep it plugged in to have it not die on me. I bought this from a friend 3 months ago for $250 but my Carrier AT&T and my EMPLOYER will not replace it because you can't have a transfer in warranty if you buy it from a friend. I think it's BS but w/e. If not I would have sent it in and got a refurbished one. Any other ideas
Hi gqstatus0685
I had an issue like this years ago. I had no friends who had the same phone so I took it into a store to test it.
You will need YOUR phone / battery AND charger and try it as follows:
1. THEIR charger with YOUR battery (if it works your charger may be broken but your battery is probably fine - if it doesnt work your battery or phone could be at fault)
2. THEIR charger with THEIR battery (this should work - if it doesnt your phone may be faulty)
3. YOUR charger with THEIR battery (again this should work, if not, your charger is probably at fault)
Let us know how you get on.
Cheers

First off, let me state that if you are having possible battery issues where you can't charge, I'd be VERY careful of trying to flash anything else. During the flashing process the phone will not charge. So if the battery goes dead during the minute or so it takes to do this, you will probably brick your device (or at best, not have a bootable phone that will not charge anymore since it can't boot).
This does sound like a hardware issue though. Either your charging circuit is shot, or your battery has died... Definetly try out zippyioa's advice to try to determine what isn't working.
BTW: Does it charge better or differently with USB cable vs the wall charger?
Also since you mention having BatteryStatus installed, turn on the indicator that shows the power. When its charging, what does it show for mA? When its not charging, what does this show?
All of a sudden my phone started to charge again. It charges very slow with wall power kind of like the way it's supposed to charge when connected to USB. Quoate me if I'm wrong but USB charge is slower than wall charge. I noticed that the Orange indicator will be lit noting that it's charging but then all of a sudden the indicator disappears and I have to unhook USB and re-plug it again. That's probably the reason why it's dead when I wake up in the morning. I don't touch the cable or move anything it just stops charging. I also noticed that when I get a missed call, SmS, MMS message it will stop charging unless I dismiss the messages. I haven't really confirmed this but I will. Thanks for the advice guys. You guys are the best.
I'm glad you are up and running again. These things do come and go occassionaly.
You are correct with your view on charging. A USB charge from my PC takes much longer than my wall charger.
Seems odd that your phone stops charging if you get an SMS.
It sounds like something is definitely wrong - a re-flash MAY help BUT as mfrazzz said above I would be very careful as a lack of power during a flash could cause MAJOR issues for you.
Have you managed to get the power back up to 100% yet?
If so, does it hold charge when you unplug it?
If not, what happens if you leave it on charge (I would put in flight mode as Mike suggested above to avoid call/SMS interuptions)
Cheers

If the light ghoes out after charging awhile, then you have most likely damaged the USB port with clumsy hands while trying to reset. Take a look at the USB Port. If it is even slightly curved or lower on the right side even by only a mm. then I'm right. This can cause a bad connection & occasionally can be fixed by gently bending at back into shape. HTC uses two different USB ports on the Kaiser, this is easier to fix on the open ended type, but because it is weaker, it's also easier to break, so be careful.
By default the USB port pin block is arrow straight.
My usb port was f**** up, I bent it back into place and it charges now.
I installed battery meter and when not plugged in I'm displaying:
6% I guess that's CPU usage
29.8 degrees/84 degree Fahrenheit have no idea what that is
87mA It fluctuates the lowest I've seen it was at 60 mA/Highest being 437mA
I'm going to add that my Kaiser has the HTC home plugin and battery meter. I only have one push email acct for my GMAIL. I don't get alot of emails on there. Mostly ones I send myself like files and such. No programs running in the background.
UPDATE**
Ok my phone has been charging all night. I wake up this morning and the charging indicator is orange when it should be green. I unhook the phone and Boom phone turns off. My phone is completely dead. I've been charging my phone for a while now (4-5 hours) and my phone is stuck at 57% does not move up. I'm leaning toward a battery problem. I'm going to put my phone in flight mode to further confirm.

That doesn't sound too good!
Have you tried the tests I suggested above (using store charger/battery)?

I forgot to add and I'm sorry that about a month ago I had my wall charger in my pocket and it fell into the toilet. I still works maybe thats' what's causing the prob. It was working fine after I dried it off and let it sit.
LOL, I would bet a lot of money that is your problem, try a new AC adapter before you buy a new battery.
yeah I'll try to buy another one and see if that fixes my problem. I mean why would it happen now all of a sudden. By the way I just happened to walk by the toilet and it fell in. I had it in my hoody pocket. Don't keep things there they fall easily like my first Kaiser..RIP 2007-2007

Thats definitely not good! Even if it dried out fully the water could have partially damaged the internal circuits. It may have taken time for the charger to go completely.
As I have suggested several times, you need to try another charge/battery!
Do you have a car charger or a friend with the same phone?
Zippyioa
Yeah. I have a car charger I bought from Ebay. Was hesitant on trying since I heard they fry phones. Tomorrow morning I'll go to store and test out my battery and plug. Hopefully it works. Wish me luck
ok i bought a new battery because my last battery drained and wouldnt charge back up. and now wen i charge my phone it just drains as if it wasnt plugged into the wall charger.

I had a problem where the Tilt wouldn't charge until I deleted a waiting voicemail and a few unread emails. This was on a cooker ROM but check it out.
Hope that helps.
check the connector on the phone and see if it is broken I remember on my first two tilts it broke and I had to get new ones (warranty) and then the third ones broke but i used a small screwdriver and put the pieces together again.

Don't throw away your old battery because it's probably not to blame and you can then have a spare. How does it go if you attempt to charge via a USB cable connected to the PC? Will it still connect via Activesync over USB? Do you still get the orange light on the left of the phones earpiece when you're attempting to charge it? These are some steps that'll help to narrow down whats going on - let us know.
Had this problem using on of the original M2d (roms).
Now im running hyper dragon w/ m2d cab and all is well. Ive also experience this from a bent pin. (dont drink coffee for 1 day prior to attempting mini-usb surgery!)
umm.. when connected to the charger the orange light is on i bought a charger on ebay and it charges the batteries up so now i have two batteries using one as a spare when one is charging. the usb doesnt seem to be broken. a lil background i spilled water on it a lil while back but the phone works fine i have a feeling that that may have something to do with not being able to charge but why would the light switch over to orange then when i charge it. sorry if this seems really noooob
My Kaiser failed recently with not being able to charge. Most of the time it didn't charge but if you wiggled the connector around the charge light came on, then went off moments later as the connection/wire combo moved. I contacted Orange and they sent me a replacement. No problems since.
Most of the time my PDA goes into a charging cradle but when that fails I use the car charger/other mains lead.
As for being a Noob, we all have to start somewhere

My fix
Stuck my stylus in there by mistake and could only cvharge if i wrapped the cord around.
I recently bought a rechargable battery pack for my daughters wii, and it came with two usb cords (from target $26.99), and one day i plugged my tilt in and it charged no problem, been using this ever since (November to now).
Cnn.cn sells the usb part of the phone, Im just to afraid to solder the old one off and the new one on. Might try it one day!
I have the same problem currently. I plug in and the light comes on, but the battery does not charge. I'm waiting to borrow a friends battery so I can reflash to standard to send back to HTC!
I got my phone wet last week and I am having the exact same problem. I have a battery charger and 2 batteries so I am doing the same thing as you but it's getting a bit old.
I dont have a warrany so I'm hoping to find some good ideas here as to what (if anything) can be tried.
Update:
I decided to crack open the case tonight and take a look inside. Unfortunately I couldn't find any youtube video tutorials so I had to just go carefully and not force anything. I ended up only having to take apart the motherboard side (keyboard side). Once I had the phone completely apart, I taped a known good battery in and connected the charger. A physical inspection passed, no burns or shorts that I could see and no funny smells. After about 30 minutes of charge time, I unplugged the charger and the battery power had increased 10%. Sweet.
It turns out that the battery I had in the phone when it got wet may have been ruined though. That one will not charge even in a standalone battery charger. That's allot cheaper than the alternatives I was thinking about though. The Fuze was really calling my name today for a couple hours. Saving $500 though feels pretty good.
I am currently having problems with my X1 powering on.
I understand there has been a post on the forums regarding this subject I have read through it the symptoms of my phone are similar but I wanted to make sure.
The problem I have is 2 days ago my phone was low on batt so I plugged it into the charger [MBW bluetooth watch wall mount to USB]. Left it there and the next day I noticed the battery is completely drained. Try to power it on and red lights go on at the power button.
I've looked up on how to fix the problems followed the procedures and still no luck. Now the thing that is slightly different with my phone is sometimes the red lights are on at the power switch... but sometimes the red lights blink on the phones side LED's I understand the side LED's also blink to show low battery / errors.... so thats the part which is making me worry.
I was wondering if anyone had any insight to the problem or maybe possible solutions?
Thank you all for spending the time to read this.
did you leave the batt really low? and what methods have you tried so far?
because what happened is that you probably unbalanced your battery (if I'm understanding correctly). I've had a similar problem as well with my previous x1.
just wondering though, you didn't do any mods to your ROM did you? if you didn't. you may be able to send the phone back to sony ericsson (if it's under warrenty) to replace it to get a new one.
just as a suggestion if you end up getting a new x1 or just a new battery that works. don't leave it until it's almost out to charge it. charge it maybe once a day or every other day (ensuring that your battery wont' die on you again).

Clean conductors
Charge battery in wall mount .... pull out the battery place it back in charge again and hope it works [apparently some ppl pulled it off] tried for 2 days.
Soft reset switch

Yup it was one of the TouchFlo ROMs
I've ordered another battery but until then I'm still open to opinions on solutions.
Also does it mean anything if it randomly switchs from a red light on the power button to the LED on the sides flashing red.

Another thing you can try is one of the cheap $2 USB Pocket Universal Li-Ion Chargers - they aren't as sensitive as the X1 itself is, and since you can take the battery out of the X1 for charging it's a safer way to charge a problem battery like this one seems to be at the moment. If you have a spare battery anyway, then you'd want an external charger anyway to charge it without having to take off the case and change batteries every time. Also since it's USB it is low voltage and low amperage.
I had the same problem with the Red light below the button being on - and leaving the battery in one of these chargers for about 10 minutes had it charged enough that it worked with no problems again when I put it back in my X1 and I've been using the same battery ever since without a problem (for about a month now).
Hope that helps,
Peter
P.S. The "MBW bluetooth watch wall mount to USB charger" you were using might not have a high enough amperage for the X1 to charge well and that might be part of the problem. The X1's original USB charger is 700 mA, which is beyond the spec of the average USB wall plug (some of which are as low as 150-300 mA). Not getting enough amps at the proper voltage can cause the sorts of problems you are reporting. Using the actual X1 charger might help as well - though I still recommend the cheap $2 Universal USB Li-Ion chargers for emergencies.
