As far as I knew (unless this has changed recently) WM5Storage wont work with the Kaiser unless you have the trial version of Softkick card Export installed.
And personally, after trying both, Softkick is so user friendly against the confusing WM5Storage menu, a small cost means nothing...
have yall gotten either one to work with MicroSDHC cards? I installed WM5torage..one that works for the kaiser and yet i still cant get the drive to open..my whole 'my computer' screen freezes until i unplug the USB cable..
I have an 8GB microSDHC card and its working flawless with Softicks Card Export II software.
Can't comment on the WM5storage. I got rid of it when I purchased Softicks as its much better.

I'm sure this has probably come up before but I just can't find a relevant thread, so:
On my last device (Mio a701), you could switch it to 'card reader' mode and it just acted as a USB card reader and didn't fire up active sync when you connect it. Can this be done with the Kaiser?
TIA
you are probably thinking of wm5storage. however, wm5storage doesnt work with the kaiser......it needs a little trick to get it to work, search the forums for it.

Look at Softick's Card Export
This is a commercial product, but I found it more reliable than WM5storage
Actually WM5Storage does work, but it needs a few of the better USB drivers from CE2.
You can install CE2 trial & the free WM5Storage and the the WM5STorage will work. (even when the CE2 trial period ends) This is a little fix for the cheapskates of the world
I myself use card export2.
Many thanks for the replies, I will give Card Export a go.
The Mio one was a part of the Mio Utility that came pre installed. It's the only thing I have missed after upgrading to the Kaiser.
Use Athena as Usb mass storage?
like my O2 Zinc or athena the sofware name : usb setting or
have software for this n working in Kaiser:confused..?
You're confused!

Yes, slower than a normal card reader, but 10 times faster than ActiveStink.
But calculate the time it takes to power your phone down, remove the card, stick it in a normal card reader, transfer files as needed, put it back in the phone, power back up.
With Card Export, I click on an app button and plug into my pooter.
Some of us are even geeky enough to have the flash card bootable.
Mine loads BartPE, and has all of the Windows XP Source files on it, so I can now boot any system, perform maintenance on it using the BartPE image and utilities, and even reinstall Windows XP Pro from my phone.
I do IT work for a living.

Too much information, as in, irrelevant to the thread? Or too much information, as in "Whoah Nellie! You ARE a geek, and it blows my mind!"
In short, to answer the OP's initial question.
YES. You can use the HTC Kaiser/AT&T Tilt/Orange/anything else it is sold under, as a USB flash drive for a PC, by using a program that you install on the phone.
WM5Storage does not work for me. It will not load the card as usable. I ended up using CardExport, and paid for it. I love it.
thanks... sorry because i m new bie..

Card Export is payware. It is worth the money, for as often as I use it. No crack.
They just require that you have an Owner Name set on your device. The Owner Name has to match the name used to register it to receive a key.
Card export installs a universal usb driver that it installs to your device and utilizes. I use it and it works on every machine I've tried it on. It's a very good program and worth paying for.
wm5torage is similar software but does not include a driver... either you have it or you don't (hence it sometimes doesn't work)
warez, I hear warez!!!
how is it possible that copying files to sd card over wifi or usb is much more slower than copying to memory of phone. and how to fix it?
because wifi transfer speeds aren't speedy at all since it's very similar to direct downloading off 3g/hsdpa and usb transfers through activesync is nothing compared to the blazing speeds of copying files from a card reader
i know that card reaader is fast but i asked why is coping files to main memory faster than copying to sd card over wifi. because when i download to mainmemory the speed is 250kB and when i download to sd card the speed is 30kB.i want to know why is it so?thx
I noticed this today when trying to send some large files to my SD card. Almost made me feel like the phone is not USB 2. It was going to take several hours but once I yanked the memory card out and put it in my pc it only took a couple of minutes. Good question.

This seems like WM5Storage with a UI make over. Looks like its for Windows Mobile 2003 2005 and 2006... probably a typo on 2005 and 2006. Anyone have them both and can compare speeds?
WM5Storage looks a bit lighter, cab is less than 50 kb... I have the cab attached if you want to check it out! It was working on my last flash (Duttys Hybrid WM 6.1), i haven't installed it yet on this one.
Slow for me too
I thought I was having a real slow copy this morning using USB cable to copy to micro-sd in phone. For camparison, I was copying a little under 4gb of music files to the 8gb micro-sd card and it took like 2 hrs. I would have popped it into the memory card reader on the PC, but for some reason either the reader or the PC (vista 64bit) does not like the 8gb SDHC card.
Mine copys pretty fast if you install du meter I think it will show you the transfer speeds. Maybe you have a generic MicroSD ?

For me, I'm using SanDisk. Do you happen to be using a SDHC card? I never noticed this speed issue copying to a regular 2gb card. Of course, it could be that I am copying 2-3 times more data now and just didn't pay close enough attention in the past.
cardreader works only after flash a new rom a thats all. and wm5torage doesnþt work at all

This could be because when you download something the device will write little bits of data every time a few kBs are downloaded, so many little writes. Memory cards are VERY slow at writing small blocks.
Downloading to phone memory and then moving to the card with an explorer might be worth a try.
Same problem with many little files, memory cards don't like those.
BTW, the speed of the Kaiser's USB port IS USB1.1-like. Maybe the hardware is USB2-compliant, but as all traffic has to go through the CPU the effective speed isn't any higher. It will take a good 20 mins to copy a 950MB file.
I have a tiny keyring microSD reader that's lightning fast. I have a 2GB card inside that I can use like a common USB disk, and when I need more space or want to transfer stuff to the phone I remove it and put the phone's 8GB card instead.

Hotfix for Windows XP that adds support for SDHC cards that have a capacity of more than 4 GB
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934428
Not sure that'll work directly for you in Vista 64, but you might find related items. I had to do that to my laptop to get my Tilt's card to read in my work laptop which is running XP 32. I need to get a new card reader at home unfortunately, no matter what I do to it, it won't read SDHC.
Hello all,
I am trying to copy files from my computer to my storage card. I'm currently using WM5Storage. Everytime I try to move the files over, it indicates that my storage card is not formatted, and asks if I wish to format it. I always click NO because I have several cab files on the storage card that I can use in case something happens and I need to reinstall something.
When I try to move things via Windows Explorer (the mobile device folder), I get the same result.
Anyone know how I can accomplish this?
Thanks so much.
when connecting the kaiser to the computer (xp sp3), you can see a new network connexion created and opened at 10 Mbts. That means the usb link is usb 1.1, a poor performance for a material as the kaiser.
Big files, using usb 1.1 are very long to transfer.
Best regards

The Kaiser provides USB 2.0 'Full Speed' specs which means up to 12 Mb (as opposed to USB 2.0 Hi Speed which goes up to 480 Mb) BUT it's not the hardware that accounts for the poor file transfer speed, it's Activesync/WMDC. Anyone who has ever seen files transferring across to from a PC with a healthy (but old) 10 Mb NIC will realise the Kaiser via Activesync offers nowhere near that level of performance.
Hi everyone
That's my first post! I've been hanging around here withwout becomming user so long...till now.
I have just bought an sdhc card ( dont know the class ) and it's working EXTREMELY SLOWWWW on my Kaiser TyTN II (htc) when I mean slow, i mean below usb1.0
I'm using Card Export II, compatibility with Hermes devices, and when writing a single mp3 through, ~6mb it takes 5 minutes. Transfer rate is below usb 1, and that was weird, so i've checked to transfer ~6mb to anotrher microSD card (256mb old card from old phone, nokia brand) and the song was copied pretty fast, reaching usb 1.0. bitrate
Imagine to copy a 400~mb film on my new card, even i can't copy mp3 ...to slow...ah, almost i forgot it, the new card, kingston sdHC with it's HC pc card reader works exellent, usb2.0.
How that can be possible? an old card is working at least 4fold times faster!!! than my new Kingston sdHC 4gb.
Any idea?
Really appreciate.
Any idea about that?
Someone is using a Kaiser II with Card Export II? having reeeaaaly slow data rate¿
thanks
As you know, the Kaiser only supports USB 1.1 and thus (s)low speeds.
First of all, disable the Hermes workaround option. Activating the option reduced my transfer speed by half (approx.).
For large files, just use an external USB 2.0 card reader.
In the past I have done a test to get an idea of the different transfer speeds:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=392941 (post 9)
Just wondering: which ROM are you using and which class has your SDHC card? (Me: -G-'s DK.10 series - WM6.1 & SDHC Class 4)
As to why your transfer rates are so low, I have no idea...
Hi!
Mhhh it could be the rom....i've even tried tweaking registry parameters (increase sd bloc size, etc) with no significant success on writing speed.
I've got and kingston 4gb sdhc class 4, rom WM6 prof compilation 18125.0.4.2
I had this problem with a Kingston 8GB Class 4. I tried tweaks and other roms, no luck. I ended up exchaning the card for another one that was exatly the same, and it completely solved my problem. I think a bad one gets in the batch from time to time. It took like 2 minutes to transfer 500kb. Granted, it takes a long time to transfer files anyways, but not that bad.
I've heard this from other people as well. However,

if not mistaken, i think i've read somewhere stating that kaiser max spped is usb1.1 and class2 for sdhc (hardware limitation)
well
I jave update the rom....to hyperdragon III and things got worse....
Now, can't even connect with pc via Card Export....and the worst of all, my gps got ruined.
More than 45minutes to catch gps signal
Before flashing, with the original rom i got satellite inside home, now...now not even outside....
Gps is now spoiled.
I've used [13 January 2009] HyperDragon III Raphael OS 5.2.21009 Build 20931.1.5.0
Now i should fix the gps...any idea¿? reflashing the rom would be painful.
Thanks
The fastest transfer rate I have found was via a ftp server on the kaiser. Its called Mocha Ftp Server. Works via wifi
Hope this helps
P.S.
I dont think HDIII comes with a radio. Maybe you are using an incompatible one. Look at the list on his page and download a matching radio for WM6.1 ( as this 100% will cause issues with any radio function including GPS )
It's not only a hardware thing.. I am using an sdhc 8 gig from sandisk, and just reading/writing to it is slow (even w/ an external reader as oppossed to the one in my comp)....
I guess it's like trading off mileage for speed in a car though.............. I dunno, I'm about ready to chuck mine, good thing it only cost me 29 bucks.
Hi,
Sorry - I wasn't sure which forum was the best for this post...
I have a HTC Tytn II and have just bought an 8GB Micro SDHC card, and I'm about to replace the existing 1GB card in my phone now.
The only tutorial that seemed relevant is: http://www.pocketpccentral.net/help/tutorials/sd_to_sd.htm.
I have some questions:
How do I do it?
Will I be able to copy not just 'data' but 'apps' that have been installed on the card?
Any caveats? Warnings? Gotchas?
I have a card reader in my laptop - but it may be too old for SDHC cards... I'll find out soon.
You help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Prembo.
???
As far as I know...Drag and drop....see what didn't in stall and see what did...apps??? hmmm..Active sync should do the trick...pm me if you still need help.
Peace
Mike
You will need a flash memory reader/writer for the PC that is SDHC compliant. The 1GB card is not HC but the 8GB card is HC. Older reader/writers are not HC capable. You will then copy the 1gb card to the PC and then copy from the PC to the 8BG card. I don't think the Tilt will even be aware of the switch.
Edit: I just read Mike's reply above and yes, that will work too. Sooner or later you are going to need a reader/writer anyway though.
??
A card reader will transfer data faster then device to pc....a reader will work fine too...remember...to use active sync...if you have it ...or mobile device center.
Peace
Mike
Thanks guys,
Will let you know how I go. Trying to copy via ActiveSync.
PS. My card reader on my laptop didn't like the micro SDHC :-(
you can just copy everything over from one card to the next. i usually keep a backup of my 4gb card on my computer, and also carry another backup card with me.
haven't tried it the activesync way though. i use a sdhc card reader. i dont' know if the activesync way will convert files that shouldn't be converted or what not.
I did a drag and drop, but my home computer was locking up (while synced), I tried using the reader on my work computer, but it kept locking up. (same situation, bought a 8gb from worst buy for $29 !!!!)
so, now, my home computer will no longer sync, and i swapped back to my 2gb card (at least my work computer will still sync), I will work on the home computer syncing issues when I get home, but so far for me, the 8gb card has been a disaster.
