When I connect the USB cable from my PC to my G3 Wizard, I get a pop-up that says:
Power Surge On Hub Port
A USB device has exceeded the power limits of its hub port.
For assistance in solving the problem, click this message.
After clicking, I get another pop-up that says to disconnect the device and click the reset button.
What is wrong with the Wizard? Is it fixable?
Unplug all other USB devices attached to your PC, then run RUU with only your Wizard attached.

Check in your ActiveSync settings on your device and make sure you don't have it set to Disk Drive Mode. Otherwise, there may be an issue with your PC's OS. Have you tried connecting to another PC?
When you plug in the usb cable do you get the pop up on the diamond asking which connection type to choose (activesync, disk drive, internet sharing)?
Go to AS on the diamond - menu - connections - check the box, if not checked to sync the phone thru USB.
When I plug in a usb stick through the cable, I can not see or make the connection. You will need some setting or app? Even with usb debugging on. Any suggestions.
try going into the phone settings and then click on storage and press the button on the bottom right of your phone and click the words usb connection(or something similar) and if that takes you to another menu then click mass storage device

can't connect phone on PC
Hi,
I have same problem, recently I installed windows 8 and since than I can't connect my phone via USB cable.
I have installed LG PC Suite and nothing.
Please help.
So you are trying to connect a USB with an OTG cable.. so you can view the files of your USB on the phone?
I read in another thread / article that the kernel does not support that on our phone. For that we need a customer kernel which hopefully will come once we get unlocked bootloader.
That's right. This kernel does not support OTG. I tested the hdmi connection to the TV and that yes, a spectacle.
I bought the Tronsmart Data Cables USB-C to USB-A knowing the cable that came with the box was only a charging cable. But still my computer won't recognize my Mi 5 64Gb. Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.
P.S. I have also installed the MI PC Suite. Still failing.

MiSuite is useless for now, as this thing doesn't support Android 6.
Just connect the phone with a cable to the Computer. I use the Xiaomi Mi4c cable, the original mi 5 is still in the box but both work to transfer data!
All you have to do is:
-Connect the phone to the pc with Usb C to A
-Change the connection mode from "Use USB for Charging only" to "Use USB for Transfer files (MTP)"
Uh and could you please explain the difference between a USB C to USB A charging cable and a USB C to USB A data-transfer cable? The more details you add the better. I am specially curious about the wires inside of the cable, like the difference between a charging and data cable, by the means of wire connection. (I have never heard of such a thing.)
I have tried doing that but it seems Windows is not installing the drivers for Mi 5 thus getting a "device could not be recognized.
Working great now. Had to change USB ports and used the ones at the rear of my desktop. Thanks!

mine has the same problem with you..
when connected Mi 5 to PC, Mi 5 is not displaying "Charging Only" or "MTP" Option. My PC (Win 7) says "Device is not Recognized".
I've tried uninstalling Mi PC Suite and another ADB program, and changing usb port, the problem is stills..
How do you fix it?
I had the same problem. But changing to a different USB-port on my computer solved it. Check if you have any native USB3 ports on your mobo.
I had the same issue on my Win8 computer (usb2 plugs only) . But it connected perfect on my wife's win7 computer (usb3 plugs)
I finished getting it connected by validating USB debug and waiting very long for driver installation.
USB3 versus USB2 , why not.
Its Not USB2 vs USB3 as I am getting it connected on my Laptop with only USB2 ports but Can't connect on my PC with USB2/USB3 ports while my S7 connects perfectly. I dunno why this is happening and still seeking solution. PTP mode and USB tethering mode works fine though. Just MTP mode connection gets the Yellow triangle and device listing under other devices in my windows device manager.
Install the software driver of the pc and connect as mtp
Dont work anything
I change it to MTP but it comes back by itself to charging mode wtf
Go to device manager after connecting usb to phone
In portable devices, you will find your device along with a caution sign
Double click on your device
Go to driver tab
Then click on update driver
Then click on "Browse my computer..."
Then click on "Let me pick..."
Select MTP USB Device
Install this driver and then your phone will be detected by your computer
(1) Go to C:\Windows\INF
(2) Type "wpdmtp.inf" in search bar provided to the right of the address bar in Windows 10.
(3) Once you found it, just right click on it and select install. It will take a very few seconds.
(4) Connect your device to the pc.

Does the external drive have an own power supply? Those that draw power over the USB connection (=no own power supply) are not well suited for direct connection to a phone, you would need an USB hub in between in that case....
