When I plug in a usb stick through the cable, I can not see or make the connection. You will need some setting or app? Even with usb debugging on. Any suggestions.
try going into the phone settings and then click on storage and press the button on the bottom right of your phone and click the words usb connection(or something similar) and if that takes you to another menu then click mass storage device

can't connect phone on PC
Hi,
I have same problem, recently I installed windows 8 and since than I can't connect my phone via USB cable.
I have installed LG PC Suite and nothing.
Please help.
So you are trying to connect a USB with an OTG cable.. so you can view the files of your USB on the phone?
I read in another thread / article that the kernel does not support that on our phone. For that we need a customer kernel which hopefully will come once we get unlocked bootloader.
That's right. This kernel does not support OTG. I tested the hdmi connection to the TV and that yes, a spectacle.

Thanks

Have you enabled mass storage in your device setting?
hi everyone,
i'd like to use the iodiak v10 kernel because it has the usb to go feature.
I need this feature to build a module for the pcan-usb-adapter. i need it for my bachelor's degree.
i updated my stock p-880 to cm 10.1.3 stable cause the stock system lagged horribly.
it worked without any problems. but after that i tried to install the iodiakx3_v10_cm kernel and it stuck on the lg logo so i switched back to cm kernel.
i alwas wiped all the caches.
since i cant write in the suitable developer thread, i hope i get here some help.
thanks in advance
ray
If it was for my degree, I'd get a real OTG-supporting device. What we have here is a hack and it's not stable enough IMO.

well it's worth a try ... if it's working i'd be happy because i can save money and i dont have to wait until the company provides me with one (this takes time and i have only 1/2 semester to finish it ).
the problem is, there are no reports on the original kernel thread that v10 has installing issues so i assume only i do something wrong.
initially i wanted to use EternityProject Kernel 3.4.37 but sadly its dead.

but why doesn't work otg ?
its kind of confusing
1) echo 1 > /sys/kernel/otg_mode/otg_enable
2) connect phone to power (charger or USB)
3) unplug charger, connect OTG cable and then connect device to it (like USB mouse)
4) plug OTG male cable to power (USB or charger)
after device (mouse) is working you can disconect OTG male from power it will still work

point 1 makes total sense but 2 - 4 is confusing
i wrote a 1 in the file while the phone was connected to pc usb. for a short second it disconnects the handy and connects it again.
after that i connect via otg cable a normal microsoft wheel mouse optical (super fancy ) and nothing happens, no light from the mouse or else, same from a cherry keyboard or usb stick.
even with a powered usb hub between otg cable and mouse nothing happens.
do i have to use a certain app / programm ?
or have i done something wrong? kind of confusing....

I suggest to try it out without connected to PC. It could confuse the whole operation.
Yes, you need a USB Y-cable with external power support. After it you can disable external power, but it is needed in the first place.

i've used otg with y usb host cable and it worked.
this is short summary:
1. have your phone with you but not connected to charger
2. change the line from 0 to 1
3. plug in charger, and unplug it
4. plug in your otg y cable, and then plug in your mouse/usb stick*
5. plug in the y cable into computer/charger
6. unplug it after you confirm the mouse/stick working
*
in case of using usb stick, you gotta mount the storage after you plug it in. there are several apps that should be able to do this on the market, so check them out (i used stickmount)

thanks both of u.
today i learned USB Y-Cable != Powered USB Hub.
i tought the outcome of both solutions would be the same but i was wrong (a work mate explaind it in short to me).
i guess i cant hide myself of reading the otg specifications.
i made a usb y-cable myself and tried the steps with it but it also didn't want to function.
i wanted to provide pictures of my selfmade cable but it seems the pictures are corrupt (cant transfer them from handy to comp, i try it later again).
just to make shure i did it the right way.
here in short what i did:
- opend carefully a usb extension without damaging the small wires in it.
- soldered a male usb plug to : shield, red, black ( didnt do anything to white & green).
- no wire or shield of the extension were cut trough, only carefully opend.
i tested it so far only with a mouse & keyboard, but the usb stick will soon follow.
maybe there are issues with the cm-nightly ? -just a guess-
but i will later try Flying_Bear's steps to make shure i didnt miss smthing.

I bought the Tronsmart Data Cables USB-C to USB-A knowing the cable that came with the box was only a charging cable. But still my computer won't recognize my Mi 5 64Gb. Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.
P.S. I have also installed the MI PC Suite. Still failing.

MiSuite is useless for now, as this thing doesn't support Android 6.
Just connect the phone with a cable to the Computer. I use the Xiaomi Mi4c cable, the original mi 5 is still in the box but both work to transfer data!
All you have to do is:
-Connect the phone to the pc with Usb C to A
-Change the connection mode from "Use USB for Charging only" to "Use USB for Transfer files (MTP)"
Uh and could you please explain the difference between a USB C to USB A charging cable and a USB C to USB A data-transfer cable? The more details you add the better. I am specially curious about the wires inside of the cable, like the difference between a charging and data cable, by the means of wire connection. (I have never heard of such a thing.)
I have tried doing that but it seems Windows is not installing the drivers for Mi 5 thus getting a "device could not be recognized.
Working great now. Had to change USB ports and used the ones at the rear of my desktop. Thanks!

mine has the same problem with you..
when connected Mi 5 to PC, Mi 5 is not displaying "Charging Only" or "MTP" Option. My PC (Win 7) says "Device is not Recognized".
I've tried uninstalling Mi PC Suite and another ADB program, and changing usb port, the problem is stills..
How do you fix it?
I had the same problem. But changing to a different USB-port on my computer solved it. Check if you have any native USB3 ports on your mobo.
I had the same issue on my Win8 computer (usb2 plugs only) . But it connected perfect on my wife's win7 computer (usb3 plugs)
I finished getting it connected by validating USB debug and waiting very long for driver installation.
USB3 versus USB2 , why not.
Its Not USB2 vs USB3 as I am getting it connected on my Laptop with only USB2 ports but Can't connect on my PC with USB2/USB3 ports while my S7 connects perfectly. I dunno why this is happening and still seeking solution. PTP mode and USB tethering mode works fine though. Just MTP mode connection gets the Yellow triangle and device listing under other devices in my windows device manager.
Install the software driver of the pc and connect as mtp
Dont work anything
I change it to MTP but it comes back by itself to charging mode wtf
Go to device manager after connecting usb to phone
In portable devices, you will find your device along with a caution sign
Double click on your device
Go to driver tab
Then click on update driver
Then click on "Browse my computer..."
Then click on "Let me pick..."
Select MTP USB Device
Install this driver and then your phone will be detected by your computer
(1) Go to C:\Windows\INF
(2) Type "wpdmtp.inf" in search bar provided to the right of the address bar in Windows 10.
(3) Once you found it, just right click on it and select install. It will take a very few seconds.
(4) Connect your device to the pc.

I'm guessing here, but do you mean a usb device? not usb drivers? Drivers you would install on your computer, a usb device u would plug into the other end of an OTG cable, right?
If you're talking about a usb device, like a usb stick, before connecting the usb stick with the otg cable, go to the development options and page down about 2/3 of the way and you can select what 'type' of usb connection to make... one is charging only, etc etc.
the one to select is MTP (media transfer protocol), then the usb stick should work.
Yes it's USB device, when I am trying to connect it via otg cable in my mobile it's doesn't open in my mia2

If the file system on the usb is ntfs then it won't work
In any case, if it still doesn't work, you can use this app

So it wasn't working on the pie beta but I didn't bother writing it here because I thought it was a beta so meh. Now since it's stable now, I am still unable to connect my Flash Drive to my phone. When I connect my usb to it, it does recognize the USB but then that's it. Like when I connect my usb, it doesn't show the usb in the "Files" or even in my 3rd Party files explorer. When I drag down the notification panel, it actually shows that a device has been connected and when I tap on that I'm redirected to a menu where there are 2 options. so is anyone else facing the same issue on Mi a2 or is it just me? Or am I doing something wrong?

I have the same issue. Tried with Mi A3 (Android 10) and it works normally. Plug into Mi A2 (Android 10) and it shows that device connected. Android System notification says -> Charging connected device via USB, tapping it shows USB Preferences. USB Preferences show that Usb Controlled By -> Connected Device and doesn't allow to change the option.

both of you should use stock pie stable miui and it will work.
for extra certainty try mixplorer and give it root with magisk and select the custom.otg driver option
in many cases the otg adapter you are trying to use might be crap ..
in many cases the charging port wasn't working and repair soldered on an unofficial part now it can only charge and otg or usb cable data to pc can't work
options:
1. connect usb to usb port on your router and use samba plugin from mixplorer to access it over the network ...
2. connect usb to your mia3 and send the file with midrop to.your mia2
It looks like USB-C port of my S10e is faulty. It charge phone, but not transfer any data. I tried 4 different cables. PC wont recognize connected phone, Odin shows empty ports, settings in device has USB settings grayed out. Even after factory reset.
So I guess there is no way to flash different recovery without working data on USB port?

Sure.
Then I don't know. Maybe take the phone in for service? Is Developer mode on? Is USB debugging enabled? When you connect your phone and PC, it should ask you to approve the connection. If he doesn't look for it, I think he should look for it. I did it a long time ago, so I don't remember very well.

Sell it to someone who does not need data transfer via USB would be more cost effective. Repairing USB port on S10e is ridiculously expensive.
