Can anyone tell me what app or service this icon represents. I've done some looking around and haven't found any references. It's not in the manual.

voicemail icon
rofl......
Thanks persiansown.

That icon means your Tilt's camera is out of 110mm film hahahaha
i was in vermont a few weeks ago and i had a solid triangle up there.
I thought it was the roaming symbol, but it wasnt because i didnt get charged or changed to a canadian tower..

I too have this frequently when on roaming only.
Its those darn Egyptian cell towers.
I was just amazed how you figured out how to take a screenshot before you learned what the voicemail icon looked like! I've never had that dorito icon, but I would presume that it is the roam icon. Just because you are roaming, doesn't necessarily mean you are going to be paying for it. Some voice plans allow for free roaming.
yes it is the roaming icon and most us providers have done away with roaming charges
New or not.. these symbols are in the manual... so RTFM

I was just wondering if Roaming is automaticly enabled or not. IF not how do you enable it and what does the roaming symbol look like?
Thanks!
not sure how to enabled it, but the symbol looks like a white filled in triangle pointing up.
Alright thanks I have Unlimmited Roaming and I never Roam.. Why is this isnt it suppose to Roam when you get no signal. My roomate get full signal with his cell in my room but I get no signal. So why wouldnt my phone roam onto his network? How do I enable this!
Thanks!
I can't get rid of it. I'm roaming in my home area and don't understand why. The first Tilt I was sent worked fine other than the damage done in shipping and the phone having major software issues other than the at&t ones. It worked fine after I updated to the new ROM then all of a sudden after installing a dialer pad and the phone restarted it shows roam. I don't get it.
There is a white triangle next to my "E" icon. I don't know how to get rid of it, and I'm not even sure what it is, but there are no programs running.

A triangle usually means roaming. Does your carrier have roaming partners in your area, or was the phone originally locked to another carrier?

that be ur roaming icon, do a search on that
It just showed up out of nowhere. I don't see why it would come up, and I can't get rid of it. I've only been in USA, CA the whole time since I got this phone and my plan.
My Tilt is with AT&T. I got my plan from some independent store, so I got it for free with my plan. Is that the reason why it has shown up randomly just today?
how about for cdma phones, do you have any idea how to get it out?

I'm quite sure that AT&T still has a roaming agrement with T-Mobile in California. If your phone is on T-Mobile the icon may show up, but most often AT&T disables the roaming icon on their devices.

I'm going to assume by independent dealer you mean "Authorized Reseller". If your device came in the orange box and said "AT&T Tilt" on it then your phone is roaming on another network, or for some reason it thinks its roaming.

For the most part hacking CDMA phones is totally different from their GSM / UMTS counterparts. Especially if you are on Verizon or Sprint. I've never had CDMA service, and with the Kaiser not being a CDMA capable device any solution you read in this thread probably won't work on your device.

I recently installed the eOS 4.888.FiRe ROM on my Tilt and it has been working nicely. I noticed some additional settings that weren't available to me when I was using the stock HTC ROM. What is "HSDPA" and "AGPS"? And will it cost me to leave these turned on? I notice when I turn on HSDPA, I see a an "H" icon at the top rather than the usual "3G" icon.

what is google???
anyways simple answer:
hsdpa is a form of data connection which is faster than 3g.
agps stands for assisted gps. it is same as normal gps except that agps uses a server to cut down on the time to requires to get ur location using gps.
both won't cost u anything extra but ur carrier does need to support them for u to be able to use.
Thank you. I just wanted to know if they both won't cost me anything extra. You never know these days with Cellphone companies. I turned on both HSDPA and AGPS. So far my calls have been going through just fine and my navigation software continues to function normally.
How do I know if my carrier (AT&T) supports HSDPA and AGPS? I hate having to call customer service to ask so I'd rather ask here.

I used KaiserTweak to set my phone to HSDPA. I am an AT&T user. It's worked fine. No additional charges. I don't use AGPS so I can't respond to that part of your question.

Thanks for your response. I just use it for voice calls anyway. Do you see any improvements? Or is it specifically if you subscribe to a data plan? And do you also see an "H" icon at the top rather than a "3G" icon?

HSDPA has to do with you data connection, so unless you have a data plan you really won’t see the benefit.

Google
n. company that was founded in 1998 at Stanford University by Larry Page and Sergey Brin and serves as a search engine on the Internet
x
google
v. (Computers) search for data on the Web using the search mechanism Google; search on the Internet for particulars relating to new or likely to be girlfriend or boyfriend
HSDPA doesn't cost anything to activate, but if you are on a restrictive tariff it is a lot easier to run up over usage charges.
In the UK you need to usually be paying at least £30 a month to have the unlimited mobile broadband and e-mail. I would personally check your contract before you let the HSDPA run loose.
Rob
As mentioned multiple times, neither HSDPA or AGPS will cost you anything. You will know if you are in an area that has HSDPA because of the H icon. If it goes back to 3G then ATT does not have HSDPA in that area. If it goes to E then you are back on Edge. As also was mentioned, neither of these have any impact on your phone calls. HDSPA = Data and AGPS = using the cell towers or the internet to help you lock on your GPS location quicker.
And yes, if you had used google to search for this you would have probably got a better explanation in a less amount of time.
I don't know why my roaming icon is on?
I'm on Fido in Canada... and I'm in Canada right now, but I don't know why my roaming icon is still on? (The inverted triangle)
Because the X1a is an official USA phone. I have my roaming icon all the time with my HTC TyTN II. My X1a will be delivered 01/19.
Actually, it's because Fido uses Roger's towers now, but the companies are still identified separately and therefore it thinks you're roaming.
I have a Fuze and have been trying without success to disable the roaming icon using the posted registry changes.
ic.
this may sound dumb, but we won't get roaming charges right?
I have the exact same problem and I'm using Fido as well~ Looks like need to swtich to rogers sometime~ Thanks for the info~

As long as your phone says Fido, you're not actually roaming and will not get charged roaming fees.
Got my X1a 2 days ago and it shows the roaming icon. Don't worry about it.
Is there a way to get rid of this icon on a SE X1?
I have the same problems (Telfort NL uses KPNs network).
When I'm going abroad I always get a text message saying I will be charged extra for roaming so the roaming icon has no use for me.
I have the Same problem. Im on Fido but I have a an unlocked x1i.
And all my received texts are time stamped -3 hours, anyone else getting that?

To fix the time stamp, you need to apply a registry fix
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\
Add a dword key “TrustTimeZoneField” and give it a dword value of 0
then soft reset your phone.
Thanks for the info xda_fanboy. Can you recommend me a registry editor? Im new to modding the OS.
Also, is anyone finding the data connection on Fido really dodgy?? I just got a data plan a few days ago, and sometimes get access for half a day.
Thanks.

Total Commander is free. http://www.ghisler.com/
Data is fine for me. No real issues to speak of.
anyone find a fix to the roaming issue?
Sadly I have never heard of a possibility to deactivate the roaming icon. There is a way to suppress the warning before sending an sms when you are abroad but not for the icon. Or at least I don't know how to do it.
The cropped screenshots show an odd 'home' shaped symbol with clouds over it on the phone signal strength indicator in the notification bar next to the battery. It blinks kind irregularly every second or so. It is always blue while the signal strength stays mostly grey. This happened after I applied the .232 ICS update going from .905. I am not roaming, all radios work fine, phone works fine. I haven't found the symbol on any list of ICS symbols and icons. Anyone have a clue what it is or how to get rid of it?
You're not using any custom roms? That's the first that i've ever seen that symbol and I go thru 3g and 4g symbols a lot since i commute between towns.
Likewise... I even did some googling for you... I came up with squat! I've never seen this symbol before and now I'm going to be up all night over it... THANKS! Could it be something special with your celltower in your area, or does it do this everywhere you go?
Could it be when you select home or automatic in the data /roaming preferences that's what pops up? Lemme change mine and see what happens
Edit. I guess that option was on my old 3g incredible.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda app-developers app
Reported elsewhere as well (Droid Forum). I upgraded to the leaked 232 as well and do not have this symbol.

It is worth noting that the preference you mention was available in Gingerbread, not in ICS. If the setting was active before upgrading to ICS, who knows what would happen?
That is a connected to a femtocell notification. Ie Verizon network extender.

That is correct, sir! I figured it out last night. Away from home the symbol goes away, and back to home it returns. I have had a Verizon network extender for two years due to virtually no signal at home. It is the older model with just phone signal booster, not data as the new ones also so. Thank goodness, I was going nuts trying to figure out what was going on or what I had done wrong going to the .232 ICS leak.
