Update Windows Mobile 5

Hiya Guys i really would like some help on trying to find the update to windows mobile 5 as i would love to run it on this brilliant piece of hardware any advice would help cheers
"They" said it's not possible because the hw6515 has no much memory for wm5... I've a Motorola mpx200 with WM5, a phone with a ridicolous amount of memory. The problem is $$$ because HP wants to sell their "new" devices with WM5.
can anyone help with language change on hpw6515 from french to english
hy suley1 you can flash it the rom is www.hp.com
search it and enjoy it

I searched and can not find a ROM for the iPAQ 6515 series tha will flash it to Windows Mobile 5.0.
Have you actually tried this? What's the full link that you found this on?
WM5 for hw6515 doesn't exist, neither officially on HP site, neither unofficially on forums. The problem is that HP wants to sell newer models and no one who owns the iPAQ 6515 has the technical competencies to supply a modified ROM for our device (it can be done modifing the ROM of another device such as the hw6915).
I own also a Motorola mpx200 (an old 2003 phone with ridicolous hardware specification compared to other modern WM5 phones!) with Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone edition, the ROM was supplied by an expert user. But the Motorola mpx220 (the successor of mpx200) doesn't have WM5 because no one "made" it.

yes it does
thanks, does this loose all settings when updated ? - ie gprs, sms carrier specific numbers etc?
first you will make a back up and then update the device and later restore if you want to keep your stettings
thanks for the replys, upgraded ok, but 1 final Q, to backup/sms contacts etc it requires outlook2002 which needs some outlook express (not compatable) install with IE5 - I have IE6 (not used) but cant be uninstalled and IE5 refuses to go on because it says its already later SW installed. Damn MS cant even get there own sh!t to work together.
Is all later versions of outlook and activesyc compatable with this pda/phone?
did they remove it?

Yes it will.
what will it take to create WM5/6 update for this phone? Can't someone take the ROM for the HW69xx and modify it for the 6515? I am looking to upgrade the phone simply because of the lack of WM5 and it seems like such a waste.
theres nothing wrong with the spec of 65XX series there is an official wm5 rom for the 63XX series. hp just wants people to trade in the 65XX and get the new 69XX series. so ya someone needs to just dump the rom and modify it for use with the 65XX series.. only question is who not many ipaq users...
I have an HW6515 and I would be willing to give anyone the ROM and any other information to try to make a WM5 upgrade. Just let me know how.
Any update?
Hey,
Has anyone tried modding 6915 or other "compatible" WM5 ROMs to support 6515?
I am very eager to know.
Thanks,
Prankey

Help requested off smart people

Hello,
I have an Alpine just bought from ebay, was damaged bought lcd now fixed. I have o2 latest rom.
I would like to put on pointui. It says i need to upgrade to windows mobile 5 then overwrite files with windows mobile 2003.
I know nothing of roms and am unable to locate the simple answers i require.
I assume i only need
WINDOWS MOBILE 5
WINDOWS MOBILE 2003
POINTUI downloaded
Im confused because of all the talk about radio this and camera that patches and fixes. How do i get these files onto the PDA - im assuming its from bootloader or is it active sync.
Please help - id love to fall in love with my little device
Kind Regards
Peter
Help
I have simply downloaded the pointui stuff and installed on the phone. However some elements dont work. I am unabel to find ANY download location for the cab files. Unable to get rid of any of the o2 crap. NO download for pugs stuff works nor is it present int he upload section of the ftp site.
Thanks in advance
Can't help with PointUI but to get rid of the O2 stuff you need to do a hard reset, which will wipe everything and then when you get the message "Customisation in 3 secs" or something like that do a soft reset.
Thanks for your help
Thanks for that help, could you tell me if there is a way to get rid of the 02 boot up screen please. Also does anyone have a copy of pugs stripped roms with improved radio?
I also need the cab files from windows mobile 5
any help is much appreciated
Kind Regards
Peter
FORGET WM5 Files the XDA IIi canot be upgraded to it you will BUGGER your PDA
I did say smart people didnt I
Its just the cab files most are overwritten. NOT WIN MOBILE 5 that doesnt work on this phone. The PointUi interface works perfectly with this phone to make it look like an iphone it requires some elements of shared files associated with wm5 thats all- any other sensible suggestions are welcomed.
Peter
Thinking about it you need the WM5 install for PointUI and then the WM2003 bits to overwrite them. There is nothing WM5 related at OS level. Think I did it at some point in the past.
Link to the PointUI install instructions
Thanks Dee Dee Still Need some help
Does anyone have the stripped PUGS roms. I need a better radio and more stable form. Its missing from the ftp.
Regards
Peter
