Well trying to flash a rom, but wondering can my phone format my sd card? Laptop not working so have to try this step.
????
I don't think so......If you could I wouldn't use the phone.....if you think about it everything you do to your phone you use your PC not your PPC
I'd use a reader and use a program to format your card
hope this helps
why is your PC not doing the job?
use windows explorer....
Peace

My pc is broken (need a new one). I was read one of the post about flashing from sd card and I need to format first. I know a Samsung Blackjack you can format it from the phone, just wondering is that possible from a Kaiser.
This is do-able using some available software out there...none free that I know of.
I think Pocket Mechanic, Memmaid, and SKTools are capable of formatting an SD card.

I just purchased a TopRam 2GB MiniSD Card for my 8125. It came with a USB card reader too. I'm pretty new to all this, so I was wondering what steps do I need to take (if any), before I can use this card? Do I just put it into the device and start using it, or do I need to format it first?
Yes
Yes I did that no problem... Scandisk 2GB.

No you don't need to format it! Just put it in and go! When you install it and your device reads it then it will do to what it needs to do use it.
NO
you're card may perform better if not.
How do you format a memory card? when i put a brand new card into my tilt nothing comes up that asks to format it. So i assume that you can only format it by syncing to the computer. Activesync does not work on my computer so i was wondering if there was a way to format it without using the computer. thanks in advanced

Hi. My windows computer died, and I decided to go with a Mac. You can format the microSD cards for Fat32 on a Mac, but it labels the card as "MS-DOS (FAT)," instead of Fat32. Will I be able to flash a ROM with the card formatted this way? Can you flash a ROM with a card formatted as Fat16, or does it have to be Fat32?
Thanks,
-Adam
It has to be FAT32.
Here's some info:

thanks,

I'm not exactly sure if the device has the capability of reading partitioned cards. If it can read them I'm not aware of any wm software to do so. I can give it a look see and Ill let you know.
Found this Link that explains how to do it if you have a windows pc.
still looking for a wm option
Alright so I'm not seeing any wm software that can do it on the device which makes sense to me. But by useing the wm5torage you should be able to partition with almost any operating system, preferable windows and linux because they still use fat32. give it a try and post your results here so we can know if it works out for you. Good Luck.

when you format any disc on a mac using the "ms-dos" option, it formats the disc to fat32. this is the best way to format on a mac, cuz u are able to partition the disc. you can also format storage cards to fat32 using the resco file explorer app.
i read somewhere on this site that the smaller the partition, the quicker it takes to flash a rom, so I made a 100mb partition for .nbh files, and partitioned the rest of the disc for storage.
I haven't tried flashing anything yet, as I'm still pondering what rom I want to flash.. I'm leaning towards JustStable V2 Build 4. I'm currently using the old ASerg V.12 rom, for it's stability. It's too bad he changed phones, and stopped making Herald/Wing roms.
Thanks for all the help,
-Adam

we can write stuff into the card in our phone, but not by connecting to the PC then choose Mass Storage / Kies to copy file over there
I can write things by taking the card out of my phone and put it in pc and copy things over but when i connect my phone to pc i can't transfer anything across.

There's a workaround. Not a good one, but at least it works. You can get full r/w access to the external sd card from within Kies, with the horrible Kies file-explorer.

Nope, the external card is still r/o when seen through USB storage in windows
tried changing the permissions in root explorer as well, no joy.
There is a easy way how to solve this. Plug in the cable, select Kies (on the phone), u dont have to run kies on your PC, after the Kies is running on your phone, on your pc there should be mobile phone connected, go there and there are both cards(in, ext) and u can use them.
i also have the same problem with the sd card :/

Hi Cocktail, I'm a Mac user, but I do have s0me experience with file recovery. Your SD Card will be formatted in the Fat 32 File format. Try this utility on your laptop to scan your SD card. Free App
Or try any other file recovery program that you might have access to.
I hope this helps. Anil

Hi Cocktail, if you reformat your SD card whilst in your phone. This will wipe the directory and any dodgy formatting but not any of your files. Then you can scan the SD card for files on your laptop. Recovery software can be told to search the entire logical structure of a volume, and ignore any formatting to find files. This normally takes a little or a long time, depending on the size of the volume.
I've done this on a 1 Terrabyte RAID 5 volume, that took a very long time (days), yours should be a lot quicker. But still that is what I would do.
DISCLAIMER: I am only suggesting a course of action. If your photos are life or death important, then find a company that will do file recovery for you for a price. Google will help you here.
If you follow my suggestion. Then having half decent Windows file recovery software would be very very helpful.
I hope this helps. Anil
When you put your SD card in your laptop do you not see it when you go to "My Computer"? On the SD card adapter it has a little lock on the side which you can flick up and down to lock it, maybe it's locked? (Happened to me before) Or try putting the SD card in a different phone and see what happens.
