anyone know of an program uninstaller...there's a program that i've uninstalled/removed from my phone, but there's still icons and other things sitting in some of the directories of my phone. i remember seeing something around here in the wizard or kaiser forum. i've searched for removal, remover and uninstall/uninstaller but i can't find a thing. even tried downloads.com since they have a lot of pocketpc apps.
thanx in advance
PS
those that are quick to jump the gun, "Tap Start > Settings > System tab > Remove Programs" is not removing the icon....
Why can't you manually delete these icons if they don't point to anything?
if there's a way to delete the icon from the programs menu, and start menu manually...do tell. otherwise, i think i'll just use that program. i know its out there, i used it on my 8125

yeah, sorry...but what the hell is deeper?
oooh unfortunatly im having same problem, been looking and have tried many programs to remove un wanted icons and programs but it doesn't work any one has got any un-installer programs pls......................what is deeper by the way?..........................
thanks
open \Windows\Start Menu
and then go into directory that icon is and delete it
program shortcuts in the start\programs menu are all from the windows folder:
\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
If the uninstaller doesn't remove the shortcut from that folder, you can delete it yourself.
Invad Shortcuts
In case you guys have still not been able to remove the invalid shortcuts use Pocket Mechanic Professional. It has an option which find and hekps u delete invalid shortcuts.
The App "MemMaid" will clean unused shortcuts, dead registries among other things..
Link in my signature. FYI, this app is not free...

Hi
After restoring a backup, my device now has a few programs listed twice in the programs folder - eg I get Internet Explorer and Internet Explorer (1).
Where about is this programs list maintained so I can zap the offending dupes?
(The recently-used list had some too but I found those in the registry.)
Thanks!
device/windows/start menu
Sorry, can't find it that way
EDIT: Found it, sorry, being a fool I was looking thru the registry, then realised you meant thru the file system!
Remove Software
According to the MS website follow the below instructions. (cut and paste from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/pocketpc/installremovesoftware.mspx
Remove Your Software
From your device:
Tap Start > Settings.
Tap the System tab.
Tap Remove Programs.
In the list of installed programs, select the program you want to remove.
Tap Remove.
A warning message will appear to ask if you really want to remove the program.
Tap Yes.
Hope it helpss.
Thanks,
Bobby
Nope, I think the correct way is to use file explorer to remove the duplicate shortcut links located in the Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder. That's where the links are.
Removing the whole program will most likely be not what you were looking to do...
Indeed - removing the programs isn't what I wanted to do.
I've now got rid of the duplicate shortcuts and it's a bit tidier.
Thanks for the tips.
Well yea... that is easier
So you wanted the easy way???
I don't have a Tools folder on my tilt, i did the bloatware removal trick and think i lost it after that, is there a way to get it back?

If you remember what shortcuts were in this folder then you can simply recreate this folder in \windows\start menu\programs.

Missing TOOLS icon

My Tilt is also missing the TOOLS icon now (initially came with it but recently disappeared), the ironic thing is I haven't done any of the tricks and registry tweaks and other fancy maneuvers, but my husband who has tweaked his Tilt still has his TOOLS icon. I have no idea how to get it back, I've been asking people in other forums
Here's the list of stuff that's linked from the TOOLS icon that's listed under Programs:
Proxy Manager
Adobe Reader LE
Bluetooth Explorer
Calculator
Camera
File Explorer
Java
QuickGPS
Search
Sim Manager
Sprite Backup
Voice Speed Dial
Zip
And the icon wasn't just a Shortcut to the "Tools Folder" that's found under File Explorer > My Device > Program Files > Tools folder....
because that "Tools Folder" is empty on both my Tilt & my husband's Tilt, but my Tilt Icon links are missing while he has his still.
Hi,
I just installed SKTools and tried to free up some memory. After I ran it and it "cleaned" up certain things - I noticed that I lost my whole Java section on the phone.
The java section meaning the application needed to launch the various Java apps.
I really don't use the many Java apps, the only one I use on a daily basis is the Gmail app for Java.
How do I get this feature back...
help!
Recreate your java.exe shortcut from \Windows into \Windows\Start Menu\Programs
and DON'T USE SKTools to clean ever again.
If this is too hard to figure out, hard-reset.
thanks i will try this immediately

oh okay thanks...
This happened to me too but no need to panic. All SK Tools does is remove the shortcut as it sees it as a "redundant" shortcut for some reason. SKTools has probably removed some other shortcuts too which you will only realise when you need to run that particular app!!!
I use Total Commander v2.5 (Freeware & latest version) to recreate shortcut. You need to make all files in ROM visible first in Total Commander, then you go to Windows and find the java executable and create a shortcut which you then place in the Windows/Start/Programs directory.
VOILA!!
This sould sort it out.
NEVER use SKTools to do a system "clean" as this will always happen.
When I click Programs on my start menu, the device just returns to the TouchFlo home screen. The settings link works fine.
Any idea what has gone wrong and how to fix it?
Programs menu...
Has the 'Programs' shortcut menu ever worked?
If so, it sounds like the folder may have been deleted or moved. Use a file explorer application and browse to 'Windows\Start Menu' - does this folder contain a 'Programs' folder?

It used to work fine and yes, Windows\Start Menu container a Programs folder.
When I double-tap it to open it in Total Commander, it opens in Total Commander absolutely fine and all my shortcuts are in there as expected.
One thing I notice though it may mean nothing is that unlike my Games sub-folder it has no icon.lnk file. As I say, that could mean nothing!
It appears that Programs in the start menu is a kind of default thing in Windows mobile, is there a reg setting that may have got screwed?
Thanks for the help. Anything else to suggest?
Rename the troublesome Programs folder in start menu to something else like Programs2. Next make a new folder and cut and paste all the shortcuts in the Programs2 folder into the new folder. Finally delete the original Programs2 folder. So you have made a new Programs folder. Let me know if that works.

Thanks for the idea. I have tried that but get exactly the same result.
One discovery I made is that if I disable the enlarged start menu, the Programs link works fine!
Anyway, if there are no more ideas from anyone, I fear a hard reset could be in order.
Thanks
Ahh shucks! Sorry it didn't work. I suggested it because I had the sae problem. I made a new folder in Start Menu called Phone and it stopped opening after a while. I did the trick above and it works fine now.
See I have unchecked favourite apps from showing in start menu by unchecking them in the Menu option in Settings. Instead, I created folders in the Start Menu folder, such as Internet, Media, Travel, Office, Games, System, Audio etc and copied the relevant shortcuts from progam folder to the new folders. So when I hit start menu from my home page, I get a drop down list of folders only. Much better in my opinion.

Interesting way of organising your Start Menu.
However, I would probably forget in which folders I put the apps! I quite like the Programs list - it does exactly what I want - so thats why I will just stick with that. I was actually wondering if there was a way of making that Programs folder look better - for instance removing the scrollbars or something. Just a nicer looking program launcher really, but as I say, I like the way it works for me.
Anyway, thanks very much for the help. The programs link is a special link of some sort I reckon, hence your fix didnt work. I think I will upgrade my ROM and do a hard reset!
I know at least one of you have installed a program before on your Kaiser/Smartphone that wasn't able to be found in the "Remove Programs" option under settings.
I'm havin' this problem with a program called "TopOCR-Mobile LE."
It was an .exe file that had to be installed on the device. So I did, and now I can't seem to remove it. I deleted the .exe under program files, but the blank icons still remain (there's two of them 'cause I thought I could be smart and run the .exe twice and it'd ask if I would want to remove the program; it didn't - instead it just installed it TWICE).
Is there a way to remove those icons? I already used Regedit's and Total Commander's search features, but I couldn't find any files with the name "topocr" or "mtopocr" (it's installation name).
What are my options (besides throwing my Kaiser against the wall or hard resetting)?
Have you tryed to remove via active sync tools? If not in add remove programs and you think you got rid of it then go to Start Menu\Programs with Total Commander and delete the .lnk's
You could also look under HKLM\Software & HKu\Software to see if any REG left over.
Please be careful as we all know how the REG can be a dangerous place
If the icon you are speaking of is a shortcut under the Start Menu, or under Programs, then just browse to \Windows\Start Menu or \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and delete that .lnk file like stylez said.
Thanks guys. Removing the .lnk files got rid of it.
