When I click Programs on my start menu, the device just returns to the TouchFlo home screen. The settings link works fine.
Any idea what has gone wrong and how to fix it?
Programs menu...
Has the 'Programs' shortcut menu ever worked?
If so, it sounds like the folder may have been deleted or moved. Use a file explorer application and browse to 'Windows\Start Menu' - does this folder contain a 'Programs' folder?

It used to work fine and yes, Windows\Start Menu container a Programs folder.
When I double-tap it to open it in Total Commander, it opens in Total Commander absolutely fine and all my shortcuts are in there as expected.
One thing I notice though it may mean nothing is that unlike my Games sub-folder it has no icon.lnk file. As I say, that could mean nothing!
It appears that Programs in the start menu is a kind of default thing in Windows mobile, is there a reg setting that may have got screwed?
Thanks for the help. Anything else to suggest?
Rename the troublesome Programs folder in start menu to something else like Programs2. Next make a new folder and cut and paste all the shortcuts in the Programs2 folder into the new folder. Finally delete the original Programs2 folder. So you have made a new Programs folder. Let me know if that works.

Thanks for the idea. I have tried that but get exactly the same result.
One discovery I made is that if I disable the enlarged start menu, the Programs link works fine!
Anyway, if there are no more ideas from anyone, I fear a hard reset could be in order.
Thanks
Ahh shucks! Sorry it didn't work. I suggested it because I had the sae problem. I made a new folder in Start Menu called Phone and it stopped opening after a while. I did the trick above and it works fine now.
See I have unchecked favourite apps from showing in start menu by unchecking them in the Menu option in Settings. Instead, I created folders in the Start Menu folder, such as Internet, Media, Travel, Office, Games, System, Audio etc and copied the relevant shortcuts from progam folder to the new folders. So when I hit start menu from my home page, I get a drop down list of folders only. Much better in my opinion.

Interesting way of organising your Start Menu.
However, I would probably forget in which folders I put the apps! I quite like the Programs list - it does exactly what I want - so thats why I will just stick with that. I was actually wondering if there was a way of making that Programs folder look better - for instance removing the scrollbars or something. Just a nicer looking program launcher really, but as I say, I like the way it works for me.
Anyway, thanks very much for the help. The programs link is a special link of some sort I reckon, hence your fix didnt work. I think I will upgrade my ROM and do a hard reset!

Hi
After restoring a backup, my device now has a few programs listed twice in the programs folder - eg I get Internet Explorer and Internet Explorer (1).
Where about is this programs list maintained so I can zap the offending dupes?
(The recently-used list had some too but I found those in the registry.)
Thanks!
device/windows/start menu
Sorry, can't find it that way
EDIT: Found it, sorry, being a fool I was looking thru the registry, then realised you meant thru the file system!
Remove Software
According to the MS website follow the below instructions. (cut and paste from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/pocketpc/installremovesoftware.mspx
Remove Your Software
From your device:
Tap Start > Settings.
Tap the System tab.
Tap Remove Programs.
In the list of installed programs, select the program you want to remove.
Tap Remove.
A warning message will appear to ask if you really want to remove the program.
Tap Yes.
Hope it helpss.
Thanks,
Bobby
Nope, I think the correct way is to use file explorer to remove the duplicate shortcut links located in the Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder. That's where the links are.
Removing the whole program will most likely be not what you were looking to do...
Indeed - removing the programs isn't what I wanted to do.
I've now got rid of the duplicate shortcuts and it's a bit tidier.
Thanks for the tips.
Well yea... that is easier
So you wanted the easy way???
anyone know of an program uninstaller...there's a program that i've uninstalled/removed from my phone, but there's still icons and other things sitting in some of the directories of my phone. i remember seeing something around here in the wizard or kaiser forum. i've searched for removal, remover and uninstall/uninstaller but i can't find a thing. even tried downloads.com since they have a lot of pocketpc apps.
thanx in advance
PS
those that are quick to jump the gun, "Tap Start > Settings > System tab > Remove Programs" is not removing the icon....
Why can't you manually delete these icons if they don't point to anything?
if there's a way to delete the icon from the programs menu, and start menu manually...do tell. otherwise, i think i'll just use that program. i know its out there, i used it on my 8125

yeah, sorry...but what the hell is deeper?
oooh unfortunatly im having same problem, been looking and have tried many programs to remove un wanted icons and programs but it doesn't work any one has got any un-installer programs pls......................what is deeper by the way?..........................
thanks
open \Windows\Start Menu
and then go into directory that icon is and delete it
program shortcuts in the start\programs menu are all from the windows folder:
\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
If the uninstaller doesn't remove the shortcut from that folder, you can delete it yourself.
Invad Shortcuts
In case you guys have still not been able to remove the invalid shortcuts use Pocket Mechanic Professional. It has an option which find and hekps u delete invalid shortcuts.
The App "MemMaid" will clean unused shortcuts, dead registries among other things..
Link in my signature. FYI, this app is not free...
How do i make folders in start menu so it makes life easier to view. any help. thanks
Go in through active sync and navigate to the start menu section and create a new folder.
My only issue with this is that some programs do not want to relocate their icon no matter how many times I move it heh. Seems as though if they were not installed into that folder they dont really want to move.
I am sure one could fix this by changing the path of the shortcut but I dont care enough now that the recent program list on my home screen containes everything I really use lol.
I've installed 50+ applications on my new HTC kaiser (which runs WM6.1 OS), its getting a little bit embarrassed because its very hard to pick a program up from the sea of icons.
Is there any way could possibly sort applications into different folders? (e.g. all gps applications go to a "gps" folder, all instant msg applications into a "IM" folder?)
btw, Is it possible to create a shortcut for the "green" application in the "programs" page(no installation needed, just run it in the file explorer) ?
thanks in advance!

You can add as many folders as you want. Just use a decent file explore & create as many new folders as you want in \windows\start menu\programs
Then cut & paste the shortcuts located in \windows\start menu\programs into the new folders...
I have many programs & my programs page has about 7 folders. You can even add custom folders & Icons by adding a resource file & a ?xxxxxx location direction command to the end of links....
For instance I have in my start menu a Phone & Messaging folder with all my phone & mressaging apps. Another for Multimedia.
got it!!!!!
Big thanks to *legendary* GSLEON3!
Legendary??? Well, ok, I guess in my own mind at least...
I'm nobody, Just a guy that can read & has been around long enough to know that you will learn more reading old Blue Angel & Hermes threads than you will anywhere else. Sure, most of the stuff won't work on Kaiser, but all of our tools & methods are adopted from there. The theory behind everything lies in those old threads.
I have allot of program folders with grafix in them on my phone, and I don't want to scroll thrue all of them when I'm using Camera -> Album...
I know how to add folders to the Ignored list in registry...
HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCAlbum\Ignored\

Anyone that can help me?

I have the same problem. Plus, I would like to open a picture in HTC album from file explorer, but it always just opens the default album, not the picture I want to open.
Any help is appreciated!
Yeah, I would be lost without the forum as well!

20#"Windows\htcalbum.exe" -directory:\my documents
if you want another folder just replace my documents with what ever you want

No, nothing here either
Can block all folders except in Internal Storage..
Hello,
the only solution I'm aware of is to set the 'hidden' attribute on the folders which should not be visible in the HTC-Album.
In my experience each individual image has to have the hidden attribute set, rather than the folders.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424784
Hello Dave,
yes, you're right.
I used "Total Commander/CE", and tried to set the hidden-attribute on a folder called "Musik", and selected "Recurse subdirs". Then I checked some subfolders an saw that the folders were not marked "hidden" (that does work with "Total Commander 32" on my PCs). But after a reboot, HTC-Album didn't list any of the subfolders inside the "Musik"-folder. So I thought it was enough to mark the top-folder hidden to hide all subfolders, too.
I just checked the folder again and saw that Total-Commander/CE had marked all files 'hidden'.
So it's not as easy as I thought.

It's easy enough from a desktop computer in USB disk drive mode.
I don't generally use HTC Album but this is a fix I have to do with my music album art in order to keep the program actually usable. It's a really flawed bit of software IMO.
