How can I avoid WM going to sleep when I'm transferring "big files" with WIFI ?
yes of course.. just in the battery menu configure that PDA doesn't go sleep..
cheers.
It's already done...
In fact, I'm using "Slide to unlock" (S2U2) and I'm trying to sync my RSS feeds with "pRSSreader" using WIFI. After a few minutes, the screen goes to black and wifi is disabled...
So I'm looking for a solution to get my update and lock after finish
Another possiblity: Keep WIFI activated when going to sleep....
I use this to ensure keeping skype and msn online via wlan... u will find the registry key somewhere here in this board if u like it like this (just be sure to turn wifi off when u dont need it for battery reasons)
Hey lemmings,
The easiest way is to install kaisertweak.
There is an option in the XML file under Wifi Standby Mode: Enable the function
Soft reset and you're done!

The WiFi turning off on me has bothered me on occasion. I looked and I don't see any WiFi settings on Kaiser Tweak. I'm using Version 0.4 if that makes any difference.
Thanks,
Jay
Viva Kaiser Tweak ! I've use it to enable Wifi Standby Mode.
Yea, I hate that. Good thing they made Kaiser Tweak! I would be a forever annoyed by the sim contact list showing. . Is there a solution to hid them forever?
Just changed this. Thanks!
My university has a log in for Wifi and I was tired of logging in everytime my phone went to standby. Now I'm always connected!
Battery hog though.

My bro and I both bought the above units and have upgraded to the GPS rom. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed the unit switches on by itself. We are both experiencing this problem but also have the same programs running. The button lock feature is set on.
That's right. My Trinity is alive, too ;-)
I'm using the dopod rom about one week and I noticed that today for the first time.
There's no application running in the background. It's still alive ;-)
I do not care about this problem.
Hi,
Any software you are running?
Best regards,
Gilbert
Today programs are as follows:
cLaunch
Today Agenda
Battery Pack / Program Bar
PPCProfiles
I will try and eliminate one by one to see if it is software related.
Anyone else using one of the programs and having the unit switch on by itself. This issue bothers me as I see its going to be a drain on the battery.
Activesync may be the culprit
Many PPC WM5 devices tend to turn themselves on. It is usually an Activesync setting that periodically turns on the device and tries to connect to a non existant server. Best bet is to set up a dummy server on Activesync on the PPC, then set the sync settings to Manual, then delete the dummy server.
Sorry if you already have done this, but it certainly solved the issue for me.

Hey Camstech, could you please give me a detailed description of how to set this up?
Thanks
My phone seems to do this too, but from what I can see, it is because of bad 3G coverage and the phone has to roam to GSM and back. Only happens at work where I got bad coverage (2/4).
AFAIK this issue is common to ALL devices and all versions.
I understand that you DO NOT TURN THE PDA OFF (Holding the on/off button), just go to "standby". So there are many Apps that tend to "awake" rather than TURN ON your PDA. It's like Sleep mode vs Hybernate in Windows. Agenda or scheduled items may turn your PDA active, even SMS messages that don't fully arrive, phone reconnecting, GPRS or UMTS changing status, profiles that are set to change over time, incoming calls, etc.
I think this is not specific to a certain ROM but to the fact that you have a full time connected and running computer in your pocket....
Hope it helps.

I would have to agree to a point, as I have noticed when PPCProfiles changes automatically to my car mode (bluetooth on) the pda turns on. So you are right that it's programs possibly turning it on but this never happened on my O2 mini (WM2003SE). I'm hoping a new ROM may fix this issue.
I have disabled the "auto switch template" on PPCProfiles which changes over to bluetooth at a certain time of the day and it appears to have stopped the pda turning on by itself. So far so good for 1 day. Curious if anyone else is using PPCProfiles and are experiencing this. Does anyone else use other phone profile programs with switching templates that does not turn on their pda by itself?

You can find the program link below. I never had any issues when using this program on my O2 mini. It still works on my dopod d810 just that I have disabled the auto switch template.
ps the chrome template is the nicest

Correction to my thinking it was PPC profiles. It is actually happening when the bletooth is turned on ( hence ppc profiles switching over to car mode - bluetooth). I disabled ppc profiles and turned on bluetooth and strangely enough the dopod kept turning on.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem when they have bluetooth on?

Mine sometimes turns itself on when it automatically checks my email accounts, but not always. I wonder if it isn't the 3G/Edge switch that is explained earlier. My house is in a 3G fringe area. I believe it doesn't try and wake itself up when the Wifi is on. My Prophet never did this, it would only wake up for an alarm, call, or SMS.
The main issues are reduced battery life and if you have your phone in your pocket and it wakes up, buttons can be accidentally pressed before it goes back to sleep.
I have not been able to turn on wifi reliably for ages now - It all started when I upgraded to WM5. Now (even if I downgrade to wm2003se) I cannot turn it on. I press the wifi on button, the cursor comes up but nothing happens), leave it for a couple of hours, and then press again - it will sometimes turn on. It then stays on for about 30 mins, and turns off (I have the wifi set to never turn off).
I cannot diagnose the problem - can you?
Any help GREATLY appreciated - feel free to ask for more details.

I have exactly the same problem with Xplode's WM5 Rom. My solution is to perform a soft reset and turn it on then which (mostly) works. I would love to find the answer to this one as it is annoying ...
If you're using the conn manager to turn on the wifi that probably won't work. Try going to wireless properties and turn on the wifi from there. It works for me.

have exactly the same problem
I've the same problem too, very annoying...
It's well documented in baniaczek's latest WM5 ROM. You all would've known if you took the time to read throughly.
Turn on WiFi: Do it only once after soft reset. This procedure will load WiFi driver into system drivers. Start Comm Manager. Select from menu: Settings/WLANsettings. Tap "Turn on WLAN". If there are any WiFi networks available - device will try to connect to. Provide proper parameters (network name, authentication, encryption, keys etc). Probably device would not connect. Go back to "Comm Manager". Turn WiFi off. Since that use only Comm Manager to turn WiFi on and off. There is easy way to recognize if it is required to load WiFi driver, or it is enough to turn on. Look at todays wireless plugin. If there is listed WiFi in any state - there is no need to load driver tapping "Turn on WLAN". Resolving this issue is not easy. Yes, I have tried this, but there is no WiFi in any state in my today screen. I have tried downloading the program from teksoftco.com, but it only works to turn bluetooth/phone on and off.
I cannot turn WiFi on and off by following baniaczek's tutorial. He says that "Resolving this problem is not easy", but does not go into it. Can you provide more info?
Cheers,

More info about this @ http://www.aacompserv.com/AACompWeb/Modules/PPCTablet/WhatIsIt.aspx
I'm using this as basically a remote control for my desktop PC.
It works way better than things like vnc and is highly customizable.
Is there anything else out there that is close to this or better ?
As I say its almost perfect however the only thing wrong with it is that when I turn off the kaiser and then back on - wifi re-establishes itself but I end up having to reconnect to the PPC Tablet server - only adds a few seconds but is annoying as it doesn't keep the connection alive.

Install 'Kaiser Tweaks' and use the setting in it to keep you WiFi active in sleep mode.
Remember to disable WiFi when you are not using it as it will drain your battery.
Nothing however can solve the problem of a lost connection if you walk away though!

Interesting, their site states that it's not compatible with WM6 yet, but I see it's working for you.

Works great for me - looks dated but works.... I got the feeling it may hicup in landscape mode hence the reason why they say its not wm6 compatible.
FYI - I'm running dutty hybrid 4 final with .net cf 2 - All standard stuff really
Isn't it nagging that you cannot switch on or off 3G with most ROM Comm Mgr.'s?
You may use the attached CAB (install and soft reset). It worked on the Tilt with every single ROM I used and works on the Fuze tested with stock AT&T ROM and T.i.R. without any problems. The ONLY issue may be that it shows a different background image compared to your other skin (mine shows the AT&T background for whatever reason).
Credit to the original creator (please don't ask me WHO it was, it's such a long time ago that I forgot).
try this- a lot easier
http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=555
why would i want to turn off 3g?
Turn OFF 3G
To gain ~ 25% longer battery life.
if you're in an area that doesn't have 3G coverage turn it off so your phone doesn't keep looking for the band...if you're in 3G coverage and want the phone to make it through a day turn it off. It's a toggle so if you want to go online just turn it back on...
Hey guys. Is there a way to have the options 2G/3G(forced 3G) in CommMgr instead of 2G/Auto?
You can do this with Shap's config program also.
Great Application. I was just wonder if there's a direct link to call this app/switcher from some Winterface UI or SPB Shell icon?????? (by just hitting the icon and toggle between on/off)

Been needing this option for a while. Most of the time I don't need 3G. Never really need to be on voice and data at the same time.
Is this 3g for the comm manager which as all of you know is easy to change. Or... is this for the tf3d?

Already said. . but yeah, my battery life is a load better without it. Also, I don't consider edge slow at all. . Or perhaps it's just that 3G doesn't seem that much faster.
It's nice to turn on tho, imo, for times when I tether my laptop.
Any chance you could post a screen shot of the Comm Manager on the Fuze?
EDIT: Never mind, I think I see one in this thread. Question, why are you replacing the Data Connection option with the 3G instead of adding another option? Just curious.
no 3G icon ?
It worked with the method using Advanced Config Tool, but after soft-reset I don't get the 3G icon, just 3G on/off. Isn't this icon not included in the TF3D ? Anyway, it worked... after soft-reset 3G was on already, so I switched off. I should be getting even better battery life now? That's cool!
turning it "OFF" will activate GPRS only.. whereas turning it "ON" will make it to Auto.. can anyone help to make it 3G only instead of Auto when turning it "ON"?
coz i want to 'force' my device to use 3G only in my area.thx

Did you get the 3G icon to appear? I have same issue - the option is there but no icon. This doesn't really impact functionality, just the visual impression.

Thanks for the link. Have actually seen it a little earlier on, but nonetheless thanks Now that there is also the white version I may give it a go.
At the same time I would have thought it should be possible to just tweak an image or registry entry for a single 3G icon to show up in a Connection Manager option that is already visible ... uff
Using the Advanced Config Tool method, what are the exact steps to get the 3G toggle to show up? I (think I) followed the steps listed but...no toggle. Someone that's done it...can you post the steps? I'm missing something...
Thanks ahead of time!
My phone is pissing me off for some mysterious reason the internet connection keeps turning on . i want to know if there is some setting in the phone where i can make it so that it never dials a internet connection ever ever ever. but i still want wifi to work. help me out if you knw what i am going thru. prbly gonna get a mad bill this month
Did you search for this? IT's like the first app ever made for this phone.
You want to look at Kaiser Tweak:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349009
Another option could be GB Soft Tweak:
http://gb-soft.cz/xdaii/product_gprs...61_diamond.htm
Never had a problem with Kaiser connecting without me wanting it to !
I use GB Soft Tweak as I like the option of instant time-out disconnect (something those useless Tw*ts at WM HQ should of thought of by now !)
Check your email account settings & any other app that uses connection.
