My bro and I both bought the above units and have upgraded to the GPS rom. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed the unit switches on by itself. We are both experiencing this problem but also have the same programs running. The button lock feature is set on.
That's right. My Trinity is alive, too ;-)
I'm using the dopod rom about one week and I noticed that today for the first time.
There's no application running in the background. It's still alive ;-)
I do not care about this problem.
Hi,
Any software you are running?
Best regards,
Gilbert
Today programs are as follows:
cLaunch
Today Agenda
Battery Pack / Program Bar
PPCProfiles
I will try and eliminate one by one to see if it is software related.
Anyone else using one of the programs and having the unit switch on by itself. This issue bothers me as I see its going to be a drain on the battery.
Activesync may be the culprit
Many PPC WM5 devices tend to turn themselves on. It is usually an Activesync setting that periodically turns on the device and tries to connect to a non existant server. Best bet is to set up a dummy server on Activesync on the PPC, then set the sync settings to Manual, then delete the dummy server.
Sorry if you already have done this, but it certainly solved the issue for me.

Hey Camstech, could you please give me a detailed description of how to set this up?
Thanks
My phone seems to do this too, but from what I can see, it is because of bad 3G coverage and the phone has to roam to GSM and back. Only happens at work where I got bad coverage (2/4).
AFAIK this issue is common to ALL devices and all versions.
I understand that you DO NOT TURN THE PDA OFF (Holding the on/off button), just go to "standby". So there are many Apps that tend to "awake" rather than TURN ON your PDA. It's like Sleep mode vs Hybernate in Windows. Agenda or scheduled items may turn your PDA active, even SMS messages that don't fully arrive, phone reconnecting, GPRS or UMTS changing status, profiles that are set to change over time, incoming calls, etc.
I think this is not specific to a certain ROM but to the fact that you have a full time connected and running computer in your pocket....
Hope it helps.

I would have to agree to a point, as I have noticed when PPCProfiles changes automatically to my car mode (bluetooth on) the pda turns on. So you are right that it's programs possibly turning it on but this never happened on my O2 mini (WM2003SE). I'm hoping a new ROM may fix this issue.
I have disabled the "auto switch template" on PPCProfiles which changes over to bluetooth at a certain time of the day and it appears to have stopped the pda turning on by itself. So far so good for 1 day. Curious if anyone else is using PPCProfiles and are experiencing this. Does anyone else use other phone profile programs with switching templates that does not turn on their pda by itself?

You can find the program link below. I never had any issues when using this program on my O2 mini. It still works on my dopod d810 just that I have disabled the auto switch template.
ps the chrome template is the nicest

Correction to my thinking it was PPC profiles. It is actually happening when the bletooth is turned on ( hence ppc profiles switching over to car mode - bluetooth). I disabled ppc profiles and turned on bluetooth and strangely enough the dopod kept turning on.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem when they have bluetooth on?

Mine sometimes turns itself on when it automatically checks my email accounts, but not always. I wonder if it isn't the 3G/Edge switch that is explained earlier. My house is in a 3G fringe area. I believe it doesn't try and wake itself up when the Wifi is on. My Prophet never did this, it would only wake up for an alarm, call, or SMS.
The main issues are reduced battery life and if you have your phone in your pocket and it wakes up, buttons can be accidentally pressed before it goes back to sleep.
How can I avoid WM going to sleep when I'm transferring "big files" with WIFI ?
yes of course.. just in the battery menu configure that PDA doesn't go sleep..
cheers.
It's already done...
In fact, I'm using "Slide to unlock" (S2U2) and I'm trying to sync my RSS feeds with "pRSSreader" using WIFI. After a few minutes, the screen goes to black and wifi is disabled...
So I'm looking for a solution to get my update and lock after finish
Another possiblity: Keep WIFI activated when going to sleep....
I use this to ensure keeping skype and msn online via wlan... u will find the registry key somewhere here in this board if u like it like this (just be sure to turn wifi off when u dont need it for battery reasons)
Hey lemmings,
The easiest way is to install kaisertweak.
There is an option in the XML file under Wifi Standby Mode: Enable the function
Soft reset and you're done!

The WiFi turning off on me has bothered me on occasion. I looked and I don't see any WiFi settings on Kaiser Tweak. I'm using Version 0.4 if that makes any difference.
Thanks,
Jay
Viva Kaiser Tweak ! I've use it to enable Wifi Standby Mode.
Yea, I hate that. Good thing they made Kaiser Tweak! I would be a forever annoyed by the sim contact list showing. . Is there a solution to hid them forever?
Just changed this. Thanks!
My university has a log in for Wifi and I was tired of logging in everytime my phone went to standby. Now I'm always connected!
Battery hog though.

The wifi standby freezes the phone on the Tytn.
Guys,
I don't know if this is actually a cure yet, but it seems to have worked on my first attempt.
First the background...
When I first got my Kaiser (UK Orange Tytn II) I was at work, I quickly enabled the wifi and all was well. When I got back home later that day I really struggled to get a connection to my access point at home. I connect to a Cisco aironet in both locations (I know there is a post about cisco extensions but I know that is not my problem as I can and have connected to both APs on at least one occasion with no problem).
After deleting wireless settings and a few soft resets I was able to connect at home. I managed to use that wifi connection all night without a problem. Getting back into the office the next day resulted in the same problems connecting to the office access point.
The AP is visible and is 'Available' but doesn't connect automatically. I tried to establish the connection manually, the phone shows the AP as 'Connecting' but shortly after goes back to 'Available'.
I've tried flashing different roms and radios but to no avail.
Last night I got to thinking that I generally connect to my AP, browse the web, sync mail etc, but I don't switch off the wifi when I am finished. I just let the phone go into standby as that shuts the wifi off anyway. So to try something different last night, I disabled wifi once I had finished.
This morning, when I got into the office, I enabled wifi and for the first time it connected immediately and I'm browsing on it just fine. This leads me to believe that there is a problem when the wifi is enabled and the phone is is standby mode for a considerable length of time and then is woken up in a totally different location.
I'll test again tonight by disabling the wifi before I leave the office and hopefully I'll get an instant connection when I get home.
Any thoughts?
I get the same thing for work and cannt connect even though it says available, and then connected.
Tried your approach but didnt work for me.

Of course that might be due to any number of factors. Have you ever been able to connect at your office?
i've had issues with my orange (uk) tytnII actually wanting to make a GPRS connection whilst connected to WiFi when i try and go online.
I connect at work using a program called Odyssey and eventually got that working yesterday, but had to turn off most other connectivity before it'd actually use the WiFi.
then I was at a pub later on with a free wifi hot spot, but that wouldn't connect despite it being 'available'
YAY!
Well...
I retested my theory. Disabled the wireless before I left the office. Got home, enabled it and I connected with no issues.
So there is a problem with having the wifi on when the phone goes into standby and it then waking up in a totally different location.
I wonder if WM6.1 addresses this. I hope so because although I have a work around, its still a pain in the a$$
I had similar problems on my Wizard... never had anything like that on my Kaiser.

Thanks, I might give that a go when I get a chance.
My problem is similiar. If I connect to a certain access point, it will stop working after a minute or so and then not be able connect to that access point or any other one, they are just listed as available. Strange...
Firstly set your wifi power to max.
Secondly, my orange Tytn2 (now dutty v3'd) has never had that problem.
I leave navizon on a lot of the time and thus enter and leave wifi zones frequently with wifi on and my device connects fine to the regular ones I use.
Wi-fi connection
Hi unwired,
I've been surfing this site, but unable to find an answer yet, a newbie that I am. Is there a way to define one network as default? Anytime I want to connect, I have to do it manually, and define settins, rather than just switch it on, connect automatically and fire away. This is how it works on my laptop, or I have to high expectations from the Kaiser?
Thanks in advance.

This is nothing to do with power settings, or at least not for me or several other people I have spoken to. Its generally not a problem when the wifi is on, its after the device has gone into suspend.
I'll bet my bottom dollar that if I set the reg hack so the wifi is always on I wont have this problem but I can't deal with the battery drain.
Just this morning I was connected to my office wifi, went for lunch without switching off the wifi first and when I got back I was longer able to connect to the same access point.
I then deleted the settings for the access point, soft reset and I'm connected again (even if I switch to low power).
To say that this pi$$es me off is an understatement, what kind of wireless device cant handle waking up in a different location to the one it went to sleep in!?

I have had similar problems. I get disco'ed from my AP at home and it won't let me re-connect. Jut keeps asking for the WPA2 key.
I use the same remedy as you. Turn off Wifi Before walking out of range. No amount of Softreset's fix it for me.
Although, some ROM's work better than others. ie Alex's WM6 ROM would not connect at all, the ROM / Radio in my sig are perfect so far.
P.S. This might also be tied to my router, cause a router reset fixes it for me. But i doubt work will let you try that

Yeah I'm really hoping that this is fixed in WM6.1 which, if your experience is anything to go by, might well be the case. I really wanted to wait for the official 6.1, but I feel a flash of Duttys 6.1 coming on real soon.

Are you serious ? Do you really want to do p2p on your phone ? Cause first, it will cost a lot on your phone bill and other point, UMTS connection will drain a lot your phone's battery.
i dont see a problem. i would do it over wifi eliminating these charges. then all i have to do it charge my battery then bam both ur problems solved.
I've tried this one: http://www.adisasta.com/wmTorrent.html, and it works fine. It will drain your battery in no time though, so it's usefullness is a bit limited because of that.

Try Pocket G2 Pro for p2p via gnutella..i have a cab that i will upload once i get to my pc.

battery goes ok (downloading on the road with car charger...) XD

I could never get pocket G2 to connect. Both with wifi or data connection.
I also tried wmtorrent on my mogul and it ran really rough. I did manage to download a 700 mb file but the phone felt like it was on fire while plugged in so I just stuck to logmein.com to my desktop and using winamp remote or ORB.
I prefer a slightly different solution.
I configure my torrent client to allow web management.
I can then add to the client from my phone, and my PC will download.
Connection there is also much much faster than over GPRS, and most wifi connections I will be on.
I also setup a secure FTP at home, and have all completed torrents moved into the FTP folder.
I can then access the completed torrents via FTP on my phone, and download them quickly.

[CLOSED] fixed -
re-installed "9", everything working again.
I've had this too. Sometimes wif-fi just refuses to re-enable after the TP goes to sleep. The toggle moves and then just slides back. The only way to re-enable is to reboot. I'll give a re-install a go when the next version is released as it is not a major problem for me. Just thought I'd mention it as it is not an isolated incident.

I have not experience that "yet".
Make sure the WiFi connection is " Treat as unmetered" ( this is Android feature ) not ROM
Besides that, any settings or extra Apps that the user install could make WiFi work differently.
Also Android 9 must use a swap partition and the settings from the Guide.
I've not actually in stalled much as I still prefer to use webOS!! Hate me if you like but Android & iOS are now bringing in their own versions of gestures and 'cards' that webOS had nearly 10 years ago. On this basis I still have the Swap file so all is good there.
I'll check the Android settings later to make sure, however for the device to be working fine, put down (in the 6 year old wireless charger) and left for a couple of hours and then you cannot enable wifi does not sound like an issue with the basic Android settings. Either this in an install problem, a ROM problem or a hardware problem. As there just 2 of us with this and _dave reinstalled and it seems to be good for him I'll presume it is an install problem for now and just live with it until I get bored - or an updated ROM is released.

I do agree with you on the WebOS interface and we clearly see now how the others mobile OS have implemented the WebOS gestures and other things.
On this basis I still have the Swap file so all is good there.
WebOS was the first and truly a mobile operating system designed for a Tablet and the swap partition is part of that.
I'll check the Android settings later to make sure, however for the device to be working fine, put down (in the 6 year old wireless charger) and left for a couple of hours and then you cannot enable wifi does not sound like an issue with the basic Android settings.
I have been running youtube playing music since 8 am this morning and now is 3pm data usage for that tablet is over 2 GB and I have the Super variant install of Open Gapps, the maximum that can be flash. WiFi does not drop as is all working. I turn WiFi on and off, it reconnects. When dealing with WiFi there are two devices involved and two settings, router and tablet. I had issues with disconnects and it was due to my manual settings that I had on the router and there was interference. I mostly set up all settings to auto, selected channel 11 that does not have much interference "where I am" and all went away.
Either this in an install problem, a ROM problem or a hardware problem. As there just 2 of us with this and _dave reinstalled and it seems to be good for him I'll presume it is an install problem for now and just live with it until I get bored - or an updated ROM is released.

When describing an issue, it must be very specific.
1. WiFi does not reconnect to the same wireless network ( does not see it) WiFi icon is outline but not filled.
2. WiFi is completely off, does not see any network ( WiFi icon is not visible ) OFF
What is the graphical status of the WiFi icon next to the battery icon ( outline or filled )?
OK. As I just posted to show that _dave was not alone, I think (for me) this is getting out of hand. Whilst I do appreciate your time and knowledge, it is simply (again for me) not a significant problem.
However. If I use the TP it is not a problem so streaming music would be in the realms of using. The issue I have is that after using it I place it inthe dock and when I pick it up again hours later I sometimes find wifi is not enabled. I got to settings and toggle the 'slider' to ON and a second later the 'slider' moves back to the OFF position. I simply cannot make the 'slider' stay in the ON position. If I restart the TP everything is fine and dandy again.
So for me a quick reboot is sufficient to keep me using this ROM. I know I can roll back to an earlier ROM or even try Pie again like _dave did. As we seem to be the only two users that have voiced a problem here and he has fixed his I cannot ask you to look into this further - unless there are other users that are also affected.

It is a must and that is why the guide was created and those files fixes issues with the non working Bluetooth and the performance of the ROM, is not only to speed-up. It clearly state to flash in the specific order.

If you are not familiar or know the maximum CPU frequency your tablet can handle flash the 1728 if you experience reboots then try lower. If want to get better performance then try 1782 and 1836 if the tablet can handle it.
But always follows the instructions exactly as posted it, that is how the ROM was tested and guarantee to work.

Yeah, tried LuneOS (it's many iterations) and although it is moving in the right direction it is still not as polished as webOS was when it died (has it ever actually died?). I still use apps from the old app store but Android is just easier as it is up to date and works. If webOS development was restarted and brought fully up to date with a decent stocked store it would (and should have) been a great success. Oh well :crying:
I thought about a LG TV but can't justify the cost whilst my Sammy TV is working

Also check your router settings if there are interference on the channels and is set to automatically change channels the Tablet may have issues updating to the new channel.

A higher frequency that the tablet can not handle will make it reboot or freeze, using the closer highest frequency for the Tablet will make it work better.

I think that the only thing that is need it is a Theme pack to cosmetically make Android 9 look like WebOS. The gestures are the same.
LOL you're forgetting QT web browser and QupZilla on the TP now

To me Pie is very similar to WebOS, even the charging sound is very similar to the finished boot sound in WebOS.
All is changing and we must adapt to it, to be able to keep the Tablet updated and useful.
Android Q is already in Beta, who knows if it will boot in the HP TP and the developers will take the challenge.

@_dave sorry for the delay. Staring with Oreo 8.1 if any changes are done to the router the WiFi connection will be lost and the Tablet will not see the WiFi signal that was connected to and a reboot is required. If the router was changed then, select forget network and connect again. The same issue is present in Pie 9.
