6.1 question - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I don't understand why I don't have the newer home screen interface on this 6.1 build. Is HTC not going with it?

Not really sure what you mean. Can you explain a little more?

Which ROM are you using? The home screen is dependant on whatever the person who creates the ROM decides to use, not HTC.

the build i have is 19188. I did the second one from here http://www.askajoke99.com/xdaDevelopers/index.php?path=New_WM6.1_Roms/.
Can you point me to one that has the new interface?

in the screenshots leaked to the web they show an interface where you can scroll through everything. I have the HTC interface with home, contacts, weather, music (same one we've had with the default htc build).

As far as i'm aware that version (with the "scrolling" home screen) is only for smartphones (windows mobile basic), not touchscreens (windows mobile proffessional)

got it. I like the smartphone better now that I'm on the tilt anyway.

New home screen from wm6.1?

I see all of these roms for 6.1 everywhere...but none of them make mention of the new sliding panel home screen. Do any of these include that? Better yet, does anyone have a cab of the new home screen?
It's been rumored that the new US touch dual will have the new wm6.1 os pre-installed, but obviously that can't be substantiated yet.
So, anyone, new home screen?
new home screen
I was wondering the same thing. The articles all show the new look home screen, but the ROMs all seem to have the old one. I'm not complaining as I appreciate all the work done by the chefs. I'm just curious about the new look that is detailed in the press releases.
True. It's a huge process making these roms, so credit where credit is due. However, seeing how there isn't any MAJOR changes to the os, the only thing of any real interest to me is the home screen. I think an interface change would be nice...
Everything I've seen on the sliding home-type front end states it's only for Smartphone rather than Pocket PC - that's why nobody's building it into their ROMs!
Shame, I thought it looked quite nice, but IMHO 6.1 is mostly centred around improving the Smartphone experience and trying to bring it closer to the standard PPC has set.
Correct, it's only a feature for Smartphone Editions (no touchscreen).
Actually, You can download the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and Smartphone Images from Microsoft's website and see it for yourself.
However, I do think that's a shame not to have it implemented on Professional devices.
Cheers!

Well that's lame. I have a touch screen device, but I often find it much easier to navigate using the d-pad. It would be nice to have an interface like on the standard os, even if it's just for aesthetics. :-/

MS is focusing on that in WM7. But WM6.1 is mostly cosmetics - no huge changes. At least not in the Pro version.

The HTC CIO may be curled up in a corner crying now...
crying?
i think he has tears in his eyes from laughing.
why do a lot of people always insist that older is better.
touchflo 3d has way more options and is much fingerfriendlier than the old version.
so just a tip: do not use your stylus, but use your fingers. you will find that using the touch flo 3d really is a lot easier
looks beautiful runs terrible
i gave up! touchflow 3D, simply too slow and couldnt catch up with my finger.
will leave it for showing off when demo to friends only...
Yeah, it's not easier at all. It's much more work to get to the media player now, where as I could assign it to a hardware key on the Kaiser. Navigating the Kaiser with keyboard mnemonics was definitely faster and easier. TouchFLO 3D requires so much more finger/hand/eye movement in order to access the same information that would have been already on your screen right away.
I also hate having to scroll through all of the Cities in the US in order to get to Yonkers, NY for the weather. It was way easier when I could just type the name of the City in the HTC Home plug in. These iPhone-style lists are horribly frustrating to use.
I, think the regular touchflo is simpler to use because it is exactly that (simple) & boring... a few tabs and thats it. However TouchFlo3D has much more options, looks sweet, touch friendly & interactive; the fact that it takes more time to getting use to or figuring out does not bother me at all.
With this new plugin I rarely see the windows UI and I think that makes a huge difference, at least for me it does.
Another point to consider is how you use the device or what for? I use it primarily for the web, weather, texting & GPS & all of these are extremely easy for me to get to. As far as the extra scrolling to choose a specific city under weather should not be in issue, I set my city & a couple others in no-time when I got my phone and that's it no more scrolling.
I remember some time ago nokia, samsung, SE, mortorola etc all the big names done some stuidies and figured out the max number of key presses it should take to get to ANY menu option. It seems with all this fancy scrolling lists and interfaces thats lost now.
Even in an iphone - which you may hate, but is probably the best touch interface - its not exactly fast to get to things.

I've said this before - in experiments comparing the iPhone and the old TouchFLO, it was faster on average to get to things using TouchFLO.

Well, the devices are aimed at completely different markets. HTC generally aim their devices with keyboards at business users, whereas the Touch Diamond is a high-end general consumer product.

There are now tweaks that will speed up TouchFLO 3D quite a lot. Search this forum.
so......
will the old type of htc home plug in work with diamond?
i too was happy using it (on my trinity)
would be nice to have the choice
with the tabs you had people..weather apps...and more
so does anyone know before i bugger my diamond up
I think TouchFlow 3D is great, easy to use and looks very nice.
The only thing I'm missing are my tasks on the Todayscreen. On my Touch I used them as a reminder for certain things, but when you don't see them right away when turning on the phone they're useless.
I installed a Version of HTC Home Plugin earlier today on my dad's diamond and well... i guess it just isn't fit for a VGA Display. It is very small and the porportions are messed up. Anyone already tried to get HTC Home to work or knows of any VGA Version maybe?
I used to use Touch Commander on my Asus P750, as far as I'm concerned it's an exact copy which will work in VGA mode, as the P750 also had a VGA screen.
http://www.touch-commander.com/
But then again, with Dutty's ROM and the registry tweaks, TF3D runs pretty smooth.

Alright, I have had this issue too. Here is a cab for the Home Plugin for VGA devices (works on my TP).
I AM NOT TAKING CREDIT FOR THIS, JUST SHARING THE .CAB I FOUND SOMEWHERE ON THIS FORUM LOOKING FOR THIS. MADE BY PJC
Hope this helps out those who need it.
EDIT: For some reason could not upload file, nonetheless, I found the download, click on the link and download. http://rapidshare.com/files/128745613/PJC_HTCHome.cab

If you read the thing it says
The built in plug-in names are:
1) CClock – The big clock
2) CAppointments - The calendar plugin
3) CHome – The notifications plugin
4) CMyPhotos – The photos plugin
5) CMessage – The message center (this is off by default on all sliding panel built in layouts.
6) CMusic – The music plugin
7) Settings – The settings plug-in
8) Custom Plugins – Users can specify custom plug-ins with static content that can be displayed on the home screen.
Just search and download those plugins and you can get it

Your Kaiser is running WM6.1 Professional.
What you see there is WM6.1 Standard (non-touchscreen)

He should still be able to run the plugins though . Just obviously no touchscreen support.
@ OP here is a good place to find them
So are there any ROMS that use the new interface?

No. As stated above, this interface is for Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard, for non-touchscreen smartphones only. Since you would only see a pretty picture with no touch response, cooks will not bother to include it in their ROMs (not a bad thing).
Ah I see, I read that backward in my head. Damn dyslexia!
That interface would be very nice if it was finger friendly
I have tried throttle launcher and pointui, both of which were lacking. Does anyone know of other UIs?

There's a difference between Home plugins and Today plugins.
Frankly, I'm a little disappointed with WM6.1 Pro. WM6.1 Std is the best thing since sliced bread. Totally revitalises the crippled smartphone interface.
What did 6.1 do for Pro?
Yea I agree. 6.1 Pro looks and acts much the same as 6.0. After seeing all the screenshots and videos of 6.1 Standard that my expectations were relatively high for Pro. To make matter worse my brother-in-law just showed off his iPhone 3G today. Its interface is so much smoother and user friendly than what I can get for my Tilt. I guess MS still thinks a stylus is better than a finger; I disagree.
Oh well, I guess we can't have our cake and eat it too!

I think I'd rather have a useful, goodlooking today screen that I use with the hardware buttons than a bunch of plugins that dont really do exactly what you want them to anyways. Dont you think so? I'm starting to get fed up with HTC Home...

I already gave up on HTC Home. I haven't even installed it on the last 5+ flashes. I agree with the sentiment in several other threads that Microsoft really screwed-the-pooch on 6.1 Professional with regards to interface upgrades (read: none), but I also wouldn't want my Today screen to be filled up with icons I cannot tap for a response.

What other today screen have you been using? I tried HTC, Winterface, Point UI( both version). I was thinking about the Touch Xperience(?).

Alternate home screen clock applet / theme

I've just been looking at a Wikipedia article on Windows Mobile, and saw the following screen shot of a 'standard' windows mobile 6.1. Does anyone know where to find this theme/applet/plugin or whatever it is - I really like the look of it.

Thanks.

why yes, on any non-touch screen WM 6.x device... in other words, a smartphone, not a Pocket PC. In a way, you answered yourself: this is WM Standard, and Kaiser is WM Professional.
Ah, that explains it then. It's a shame it's not also available on touch screen devices, as I think it looks really clean - nicer than the usual HTC Home app I think. I've tried other home screen clocks and styles, but havent found one yet that I really like (other than this one unfortunately...!!)
Thanks anyway
I use SPB Mobile Shell as it looks slightly more usable than HTC Home which was not bundled with phone initially.
I use SPB mobile shell too,it´s more better than HTC home. And for big clock on today I´m using Pocket digital clock.

Show week in calendar?

Hello Gents!
A point that I really miss in comparison to the D1 is that the T2 does not show week in calendar. Only Day and month are there to choose from. Does anybody know a solution, i.e. a registry key or such?
Thank you guys for your help,
Cheers, Studebaker
No chance, you must use an additional calendar (view). BTW: Other calendars are more finger-friendly. Maybe important point.
Hmmm, I was hoping that this would be a quick fix since the D1 can do it as well. So is this a thing within the new TFL3D.....? That would suck big time.
Yes, it is the new TF3D.
But of course you can use the standard windows mobile calendar week view.
Ahm, how? I guess one has to switch of TFL3D to do so? But then everything is standard Win Mobile, which is pretty lame in comparison to HTC's finest TouchFlo. Right?

No, even with TFL3D enabled you can start the standard calendar (in German: "Start" / "Alle" / "Kalender").
In the new TF3D 2.5 there will be a week view for the calendar, but don't know if it will come to topaz, but it will probably be cooked in a rom when it's out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jjCNIZcM5s
