If what I have been reading is true, then TMobile USA is replacing the MDA with the Wing. I am dissappointed in this . From the specs I have seen and the overall look there really isn't much of a difference. I would like to see a Hermes type device or something "new" in the lineup. Looking on their website and not seeing (currently) a full WM device is a little strange. Also seeing both the SDA and Dash on there at the same time is a little strange IMO.
Anyonce else feel the same way?
Hi there ,
I've sold my kaiser 2 days ago, so can't see any better phone in market to buy - so thinking should i buy a kaiser again or wait for it's succesor or go with nokia N95 8gb ?
Please help
It may be a while before the HTC TyTN II's succesor comes out. You may be in for a long wait. Not sure about the Nokia N95- I've heard both good and bad reviews. Not that I'm a style over substance person, but I don't really like the look of it. I think many will agree that the TyTNII is much more attractive than it
Like said above, you may be in for quite a wait if you decide that you want the successor to the TyTn II. That said, the current state of the TyTn II isn't very good, but I have faith that as newer products come out, our amazing devs here at XDA-Developers will be able to ultilize the full potential of the hardware.
That said, if I were in your position, I would probably wait on a different device, or an upgrade to the TyTn II (video drivers).
hey, I don't agree with lot of the ppl here. I don't think that "the state of the tytn II is bad" right now. the tytn II is a great phone, while it doesn't have the best video drivers. (i still watch full movies very good quality by re-sizing and syncing it through windows media player) however, the n95 8 gb is a great phone. if u live in north america id wait for the 3G version to be released, since the curent one doesn't work with north american 3G. the main reason I wouldn't get it is the lack of a touchscreen and lack of free programs. either way u go, u'll be fine. good luck
Getting confused ,When will Tytn II sucessor will come ? any news on Universal successor so called omni ?

August/September. Based on the fact that HTC releases this form factor every year around that time.
Was so for the Vario 1, Vario 2 and Vario 3.
No news yet on specifics though. But im betting VGA screens after seeing Manilla.

Quite right mate t-mob release new vario Near sep.
TYTN II Sucessor will have -
Fm radio
Vga
512 ROM
VGA wouldn't hurt, but isn't it about time they do something about storage? It's almost a joke that Tytn II's main competitors have 32x more storage space.
Anyway, I don't think it's worth waiting for, I myself don't have one but will probably buy it this month.

LMAO! My sentiments exactly. I could have sworn myself that the TyTNII had just been recently released and now people are already demanding its successor

Why do you do this? Why say it "will have" these features when we really have NO IDEA what features it will have? Even people who work for HTC couldn't be certain right now on what the phone will be, since plans can and often do change. Seriously, you're only going to confuse the OP, since he obviously isn't clear on all this stuff...

I suspect the demand for its successor would be far less if HTC would release those &%^$% drivers!!!

Lol! I'm willing to bet that those who complain the loudest will be the first in line to purchase the TyTNIII, even with its crappy drivers.
Thats HTC devices for you. Can't live with it, but can't live without it
IMHO, today, the HP iPAQ 214 + Nokia N95 combo is the best, in every respect. Sure, it's two devices, but, as there's simply no really good converged device out there, you have to live with what you have.

If they DO include the drivers. AFAIK they won't. That is, their future Qualcomm-based devices will also be severely crippled.

No Omni news. Today, the closest to it is a N95 + HP 214 combo (with the external Stowaway keyboard if you do need a hardware keyboard)

Hmm... till now Htc plan is to add those new things to Kaiser successor + 2gb storage -can't say if they changed their specs @ last momemt .
if HTC's history is anything, they will first release a successor to the 6800, then we will see the TyTn III...
depends how cheap you can get the kaiser for
I can get Kaiser for around 340 pounds & N95 8gb for around 360 pounds -what to buy ?
I'm moving my request over here from the Athena / Advantage subforum. Thanks again to those who helped steer me in the right direction.
So my HTC Wizard is getting a little old, and it's poor old CPU isn't standing up to Windows Mobile 6 ROM's very well. It doesn't support anyhting past EDGE, my sweet BT SouthWing headset dies as soon as I listen to tunes and do something elsie, and I'm thinking it's time for an upgrade. At the same time, my camera is busted. My girlfriend has a 6 megapixel camera we use for anything important, but I want a decent camera that's always on me. I don't like carrying about more than one device, and am looking for a good consolidated phone / camera / PocketPC / BT 2.0 MP3 player. I was originally interested in an Advantage, but I just don't think it'll be a good texter / NES emulator. Here's what has caught my eye:
Kaiser (Don't think I need a link to this)
HTC P6500 http://www.htc.com/www/product.aspx?id=530
i-Mate 9502 http://www.imate.com/product.aspx?product=ultimate9502
I can get a Kaiser (Tilt) wicked cheap from AT&T, and they don't look to be hard to unlock. A Kaiser would basically bet a souped up Wizard with a 3 megapixel camera, tho still no flash.
I've seen the PC6500 put up better performance numbers than about anything else, but I'd be paying more, and it still doesn't have a flash.
The i-Mate 9502 is the sexiest and has a flash, but it's going to run me about 2x as much as a P6500 and 3x as much as a Tilt.
I'm just looking for input on which phone might work out the best. I appreciate any and all input.
Dude go online and read reviews for each of the phones. You can try Engadget.com Your question has gotten many reviews and only one response, mines. It's like walking into a Mercedes dealership and asking them if you should get a BMW? ....
I have been reading reviews and doing research, hence the impass.
I'm just going to wait for HTC to put out whatever's going to succeed the Kaiser. The I-mate's way too pricey, and downgrading my Wizard to WM5SE has fixed so many problems I'm wondering why I used WM6 in the first place.
I know this sounds like a stupid question, and I know the MDA Compact IV is a repackaged diamond, but unfortunately the t-mobile published specifications are next to useless.
Is the Compact IV identical to the diamond? Same memory, same chipsets, nothing disabled (I already know the rom wont have windows live and messenger installed)?
Why is it so much lighter? How come it's a slightly different shape? Has anyone categorically determined that there are no technical differences?
I'm about to buy ten for work, probably tomorrow, and I don't want to look like a chump and have to send them back. The alternative is renew on orange, but t-mobile are offering us a serious inducement (ie a hugely competitive contract) to get us to switch that Orange just can't match.
Still, if the handset is crippled, and ultimately wont take a new ROM, I'll stick with our existing provider to get a more vanilla diamond.
Currently I'm on a tytn (SPV M3100 variant), with CRC's excellent WM 6.1 ROM. A rock solid performer. Can I expect the MDA C iv to be quicker, or am I going to be disappointed until t-mobile issue a more up to date official ROM?
Thanks in advance for your help.
go for it theres not much difference in the two i have the compact - flashed a diamond rom just fine
There are no specification differences other than the weight, the weight reduction may be down to the rounded corners and theres no metal strip around the edge.
You can put any rom on it just like the Diamond. It's faster than my Tytn which i had as obviously it has a faster cpu and more ram.
Also, the call and home/back buttons are switched round but that doesnt cause any problems with roms.
l was under the impression that it had less RAM than the diamond (120 something rather than the 192)
It doesnt. 64mb is taken up by the graphics just like the diamond.
Thank you all very much, for the feedback and re-assurance. I'll take the plunge tomorrow.
....just as a follow up, I took delivery of ten MDA Compact IV's yesterday. Very happy with it, even on the stock rom with T-Mobile branding (which we will stay with while in our warranty period). It strikes me that the diamond (variant) is the first powerful WM device I've had, that is also like a phone, rather than like a pda (my last device was a tytn). It's a powerful package.
Thank you for the advice.
T-Mobile turned the hardware-buttons (call/hang-up - home/back) in comparison to the diamond. Although this doesn't seem to be the case on the Victor....
But I guess this doesn't matter with ROM-Upgrading (hard-wired not assigned functions?)

You can change the T-Mobile branding without loosing warranty. Have a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=409901
I've done it on mine and am very happy with the changes. A hard reset wil restore everything.
Specwise the MDA Compact IV is completely identical to the Touch Diamond.
But, beware:
The Compact VI sadly is NOT compatible with extended batterycovers for the Touch Diamond While the new battery itself will fit snugly, the new batterycover cannot "lock on". The latches on the inside of the backcover are placed differently in both devices.
So I returned the battery and now i'm hoping that the Victor wil sport the same type of batterycover as the Compact IV.

I was aware of that, and will have a look at it, one of the ten units I purchased will be a spare, as that sim card is allocated for pbx to gsm gateway. On the spare I will play with configuration. Nevertheless, the point remains that I consider the diamond/mda compact iv much more viable as a powerful pda phone than one might imagine from reading many of the posts on here.
I currently have nine relatively happy users, who will become very happy users over the next few days as they become familiar with their phones. It is only by the exalted standards of high level xda added features and customisation that many people (in my view) come here to register their dissatisfaction. This phone, even in an off the shelf branded form, is a spectacularly powerful and functional business phone.
We are very happy with it, and I think that bears stating to reassure people considering a purchase. I also played with my compact iv side by side with an iPhone in carphone whorehouse this morning. The iPhone seemed very bulky, ostentatious, and slow in comparison. Personally I have no regrets over the decision (not that the iPhone is in any way a viable business phone, again in my own opinion).

Again, I was aware of that before my purchase thanks to the information available on this site. Clearly the external form is different, with different dimensions and curved corners. This means we will need mda compact iv specific cases (for a truly good fit) and covers, and it may affect external accessories like cradles. If you know in advance it allows you to decide whether that is likely to be a problem. I've actually ordered some diamond screen protectors, and expect to have to manually adapt them to fit the compact iv. In time specific accessories that require adaption to the form factor should become available.
Teeter is spectacular demonstration of the phones feel. People I've shown it cannot believe how well you can apparently "feel" the ball bearing.
It's a very fine phone.
