Difference Between Locked and Unlocked TyTnII - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I am contemplating purchasing a new unlocked TyTnII for $830 CDN to be used on Rogers Network...who currently do not offer the phone yet. What I don't know, is the difference between an upcoming 'locked' phone from Rogers, and the unlocked version I am thinking of purchasing.
There is quite a difference between the subsidized Rogers price, and the unlocked version, and I am trying to decide if the cost difference is worth the added features one might get from the unlocked model.
Thank you for your help.

locked phone can only be used within the network, like Rogers. Unlocked, means you can just insert any SIM, from any carriers worldwide, and the phone will work.
as far as the TyTN, there are already ways to SIM unlock it. So wait for the subsidized.

Total newbie question about SIM unlocking Diamond

Hello everyone,
I'm thinking to buy an HTC Diamond over eBay, and have question about SM unlocking in my mind:
- Do I need to have a SIM card, which the device currently locked in, to unlock it or is it possible to execute the unlocking software without a SIM card installed?
They usually sell phones re-branded and locked to a specific network, and not every network operator works in my country. For example, if I buy a phone locked to Orange, it will be impossible for me to unlock it, if I need to run the unlocking software while an Orange SIM is inserted.
Thanks in advance.
Well I'm not completely sure that you need the sim to unlock it, but what I am sure about is that if you buy the HTC Diamond (not the T-mobile version, or whatever other carrier offers it) it will come unlocked. HTC simply makes the phones and if you buy one of their versions it will be unlocked as a standard.
Hopefully I helped answered your question instead of wasting time for both of us
every phone i have had to have unlocked can be done without any sim card in it
Thanks for your replies and sorry for a late response.
I have already bought my phone and waiting for its arrival. It is an Orange branded device, which is unlocked with a software obtained from unlock-htc.com, according to the seller. So, my problem with the SIM unlock seems solved
I think the bigger question is, once you get it unlock can it be used with AT&T or T-mobile 3G frequency.

We don't have those network operators here in Turkey. In fact, we don't have any 3G network operator at all
If we think that people are discussing about 4G technologies like LTE in north America and Europe, we can easily say that cellular network providers are evolving very slow in Turkey I don't think I will have problems with our current old school GSM providers with a SIM unlocked device.
I have to wait and see of course, I will let you know the results.

How To Tell if HD7 (Bell) is Unlocked?

I have an HD7 that I bought outright, off contract, last summer. It has all the regular Bell branding, but how does one determine if it is locked or not?
Hi,
if you bought it without any contract it should be sim unlocked, logic.
But don't expect any other unlock level.
I assumed that as well, but was hoping there was a way to test this without the need for a sim card from another carrier. Thank you for the response.

AT&T Moto X

Is it safe to buy this version? I mean, I'm buying it to use on GSM networks. If the seller couldn't unlock it thru an online request from AT&T, what's the rate of success that even when I buy an unlock code, it'll go thru?
I got it to use in Argentina... should have chosen the TMO one that works too (we have no lte here).
I could unlock it with unlockunit, but i can't unlock the bootloader.
I would recommend you buy the developer version as it is already sim unlocked and also the bootloader is unlockable.
I am using AT&T version now as I am using their service, and I am pretty sure there are many guys got unlock code from somewhere to get sim unlocked. However, in my opinion, just don't expect the bootloader unlock for AT&T version in a short period of time, or it won't happen at all( worst case). There is already a bounty raised for more than $1,000 dollars for long time, but on one could unlock the bootloader and claim it.
In one word, the AT&T version is sim unlockable. However, if you want to flash customize roms in the development thread, just avoid it.

Unlocked AT&T S5

Hey everyone, I am about to pay full retail price for the S5 through AT&T which means it will be unlocked.
Question is...any root method or exploits that work for the international version also apply to the AT&T model?
Nope, paying full price for an "Unlocked AT&T" model, means it's carrier unlocked, bootloader is still locked down on all AT&T branded S5's. If your paying full price and want root, you should just buy an unlocked T-Mobile version from somewhere like swappa.com, supports AT&T frequencies and the bootloader comes unlocked.
It would be nice if XDA had a "Glossary of Terms" in the wiki that explained terms that are used often like"bootloader unlocked" and "carrier unlocked". Maybe, it wouldn't make much difference, but the some words and terms are often confused and are explained again. It might be easier to just link to the glossary.

Keep in mind the phones aren't usually unlocked (carrier unlocked) at the point of sale and you'll have to submit an unlock request once you've bought it.. As a side note, I highly recommend buying the T-Mobile version, as it's compatible with at&t and DOES have the bootloader unlocked by default. There's really no reason to buy the at&t version if you're buying at full price.

If you are going to pay full price, just go to T-Mobile store and by the T-Mo version which comes with an unlocked bootloader and supports all AT&T frequencies, then just replace your back cover for an unbranded or at&T branded one.
the AT&T one will not get Root anytime soon.

Switch Dish Network-locked S20FE to unlocked or T-Mobile version

I'm considering getting a S20FE, and there's a really cheap Dish Network locked S20FE that I wanted to flash to the unlocked or T-Mobile version.
Is that possible? I've seen it be done for older phones but not sure if it's available for this one yet.
Thanks.
I have the same phone. locked to t-mobile and I'd like to have it unlocked. I have searched online for several days but can't find any viable option.
I messaged some guy that said he'll charge $150 dollars to unlock. but it feels like a scam
any help is much appreciated
