This isn't particular to Wing but I was wondering if there was a way to block ads while browsing? I browse with images most of the time and loading ads just takes more time and bandwidth. Is there anyway to block them with opera, opera mini or PIE?
Also, on my windows pc, i can edit hosts file to stop my pc from connecting to servers that host ads(works really well, check out: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm). Is there a hosts files on windows mobile? And would this work?
Thanks.

Hi,
Has anyone else found that when downloading files (either from emails or images from web pages for example) with Opera Mini 4 that it opens up Pocket Internet Explorer to deal with the download?
I have set-up the tweak to allow links to be opened in Opera Mini, but it still passes downloads to PIE. I'd rather wave goodbye to PIE altogether, but can't at the moment because of this.
Does Opera Mini not have this capability or is there a way of changing the programme defaults to make it download attachments etc?
Thanks,
Steve
I think it's probably intentional. Java midlet apps seem to work in a bubble of sorts. I'm guessing the only way Opera Mini can touch the system data beyond the space allocated in the midlet is to pass the information to an external source (here, IE).
is there a plugin cab to allow me to download more than one thing at a time in ie. or a free program download manager? or an alternative torrent client to wmtorrent
wmtorrent is the only thing that works, use for legal purposes otherwise your carrier might go after you for using their network for illegal downloads/sharing.only web browsers for multiple downloads is opera mobile(not mini) and netfront
actually you can use Tweaks2K2
Tweaks > internet tricks > Download 8 files simult.

Click to collapse
Besides wmTorrent, you can also try wmDA
I am giving my Kaiser to my son, but have realised that he can access all those sites on his phone which have been barred on his PC.
Is there any way that I can block sites for Pocket IE / Opera.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.
Update -
Found a site - Airscanner which has a firewall for WM, but when I tried using it I realised that I could turn off Internet Access, but not selectively.
Anybody ever used this app? If there is a way of configuring sites that need to be blocked please let me know.
Thanks,
I know Pocket hosts allows you to edit the hosts file, and any site you want blacklisted could just point to 127.0.0.1 or something, but if you want to block categories of websites then I don't know anything off the top of my head.
I'm sorry if this question has been asked before, but I couldn't find it on the search.
I save HTML files on my PC and bluetooth send them to my tilt, but my problem is the tilt loads 80% of the file on internet explorer and then decides to turn on the internet connection to download the leftover 20%. I don't understand why it needs to use the internet if I already downloaded the whole html file. Is there any work around this without disabling the internet? I mean it kind of defeats the purpose of saving an html file if it is just going to connect me to the internet to view a file.
Also the .MHT file is too large and doesn't always work so I don't really find it a great alternative.
Save them as HTM with the accompanying folder instead of MHT?
There will often be a few links staying "online" like ads and such other things that change at every page load, so it tries to connect to get those.
yeah, the only real way to strip it of any 'online' links is to open them in an editor and do it manually. Things like ads will be coming from a sepearte http:// than the original site - removing any links should do the trick.
Another option is to use opera, and from inside that you can save the page to the device locally for later viewing (needs to use data on your phone though... are you trying to avoid this ?)
“Extensions come to Opera Mobile”
So I decided to do a search today to see if there was a way to enable extensions on Opera Mobile. In a stroke of luck, I just happened to find a post made today in the Opera dev site that has a link to a build of Opera Mobile 12 with support for extensions.
It has been working well on my Motorola Xoom 4G.

Tips:
To transfer and back up your Opera bookmarks without the need of Opera Link:
Requirements: Must be rooted!
Transfer Bookmarks from Opera Mobile 12 to Opera Mobile 12 w/Extension:
Use Rootexplorer to copy the “all” file from “/data/data/com.opera.browser/opera/etc/2/” to “/data/data/com.opera.browser.extensions/opera/etc/2/”
Backup Bookmarks from Opera Mobile 12 or Opera Mobile 12 w/Extension:
Use Rootexplorer to copy the “all” file from “/data/data/com.opera.browser/opera/etc/2/” or “/data/data/com.opera.browser.extensions/opera/etc/2/” to a desired location on you Sd Card of eternal storage.
Extra:
Here is a list of extensions that I have installed to improve my browsing experience.
Ghostery: block scripts from companies that you don't trust, delete local shared objects, and even block images and iframes.
WOT: shows you which websites people trust for safe surfing, shopping and searching on the web.
NoAds: Extension blocks external scripts, specific global script functions and variables, elements of a page
ContentBlockHelper (English): block any elements by CSS selector rules and more automatically.
SaveFrom.net helper: Helps you to download files.
