Trying to do a hardreset by following the manual ...
Press and hold the left SOFT KEY and the right SOFT KEY, and at the same time, use the stylus to press the RESET button at the bottom of your device.
OK ... tried that ... but the device just does a soft reset and starts up normally afterwards. The left / right soft keys are the ones you use to select the associated menu / selection options in applications.
Note that the hard reset through the other route works fine:
1. Tap Start > Settings > System tab > Clear Storage.
2. Type "1234" in the box and tap YES.

I got same result.
However, you can do this :
1. Tap Start > Settings > System tab > Clear Storage.
2. Type "1234" in the box and tap YES.
I did that, and it hard reset the device nicely.

Make sure you have both buttons pressed and held when you hit the reset button and don't let the buttons go until you see the screen flash again. Then, as soon as the screen flashes let the buttons go and you should see the reset menu.

Tried that including numerous variations of how long to keep the buttons pressed ... doesn't work.
What exactly do you mean by "until you see the screen flash again"? Do you mean the screen first turning black, or do you mean the screen turning from black to the next screen with "smart mobility" shown in the middle?
Also can you please post your ROM details (mine are in the sig), thanks.
Note that the two buttons you need to press are not exactley below the screen - as the yes and no buttons are little curved to let you press it by mistake
Finally ...
Yes the buttons really suck compared to the TyTN I unless you have miniscule girlie fingers ...
Anyway thanks for the pointer ... I changed tactics and pressed the keys with my right hand and making 100% sure that no other adjacent key is accidentally pressed as well ... use the left hand for the stylus to reset
Thanks!

OK after trying to install SCLPF cube and not liking to much i uninstalled it the way his instruction said. What i get now and this was preset with cube installed is after a soft reset i can hit the start menu 3 times but on the 4th time my menu has a white background and show windows live and live search about 10 times before programs and setting.
Help? if u need more info let me know.
what does a hard reset do and how do i do it?
Hard resets are covered on the FIRST PAGE of the wiki.
Hard reset puts the device back to how you had it when you bought it ( or installed a fresh rom ) it will wipe ALL settings youve made and put it to factory.
To perform this,
Press the 2 softkeys ( above the IE symbol and above the Mail symbol ) while pressing the soft reset button on the bottom. When it prompts you on screen, press the green talk button 2 times.

I recommend you to use psShutXP, you will see it in this forum, It has other useful features such as turning the screen off. I have it on my start menu.
Can someone that knows what they are doin make an app to turn the PTT button into the SOFT RESET button? I mean to function just as the real SOFT RESET button does, push and soft reset happens. No pop-ups askin to confirm just soft reset when pushed.
This would be great and would cut down on having to remove the battery cover.
I've mapped the PTT button on the ATT version to various things, and can tell you that its very easy to hit this button on accident. Therefore, mapping it to soft reset IMO is not a great idea.

This is an interesting idea. I am currently using Rhodium Keyboard Controller. After reading your post, I mapped the START button to "Default Key Action" for Click and I am trying RESET.exe assigned to Triple Click. The location of the Window Start button and Triple Click is less likely to trigger accidently (so far so good)
As a LEFTY, here is how I have mapped the PTT:
CLICK= Back
Double Click=Camera
Triple Click=Send Recieve all
Long Press= Voice Command
I hope this is helpful.
★ Device: AT&T Tilt 2
★ Radio: 4.49.25.95
★ ROM: Energy.RHODIUM.21684.CHT2.0.Sencity.Nov.8
Like syNRGz said, you could use the Keyboard Config app to map the PTT button to the reset function. U can usually find the reset button in the start menu.. so u can access it from Windows/StartMenu/.. and then the reset.ink or sometimes its in tools or settings folder. it will still ask u to confirm but jus like Redpoint said, its really not a good idea to map PTT button to reset. it can be accidently pressed and the phone will restart. You dont need to open the back cover to reset. You can always reset from the start Menu. The ROM comes w/ a reset button.
ANother way is to map the PTT button to 'Power Management' in the keyboard config and then select reset.
I hope this helps.
I use the Rhodium keyboard controller for the PTT button with the following settings.
1 Click - Task Manager or Arkswitch
2 Clicks- Wi-Fi Toggle
Long Press - Camera
Works good for me, do you really want a button where you only have to push it once and it soft resets without confirming? Just use quickshutdown and a long hold to the sleep button will get you a soft reset just a swipe away. Or just drill a hole in the side of the back cover where the reset button is so you don't have to take off the rear cover to press it.
