You MUST flash via sync, there is no method available to flash from SD card. Are you using XP or Vista? There is a known issue with Vista not liking the BA. Are you manually putting the BA into bootloader mode then placing in the cradle or trying to do it some other way? The method that works 100% for me is to manually put in bootloader mode (power+reset+record), this gives me a screen that says Serial at the top and a version number at the bottom, there is no backlight and when I then place it into the cradle Serial changes to USB. At this point on the computer run MA_Upgrade and everything should work. Keep in mind that I will never use Vista so if you are the YMMV.

will i could manually go to bootloader mode but the time i place device on cradle " unknown device" appears and running the maupgrade.exe leads to blank upgrade rom version several times i have done it ??? any suggestions
i have windows xp , activsyn 4.5 , bootloader ver 2.06

As silly as this sounds, try a different USB port. Also make sure you are directly connected to the computer not via a USB hub.

tried more than one computer for connection and more than 4 ports still i got the same " usb device not recognized"

Try a different cradle/cable.
The time I had this exact problem, it turned out of be a broken wire in the data cable.

i bought another cradle still i hvae the same message " usb device is not recognised"

Hrmm... I'm going to throw out a few ideas to look at. Some probably don't apply since you tried this on another machine, per your post, but it can't hurt in regards to this issue...
Try uninstalling activesync, reboot, reinstall, reboot. The 'drivers' that are used are installed with activesync.
If you have any 3rd party USB drivers, try reinstalling them.
Disable 'advanced network functionality' on the phone
Backup your phone and hard reset
Do you have anything that monitors the USB port on the machine you are trying to do this on?

Make sure you are using activsync 4.5 or newer. Other than that and what you already read here I can think of nothing.

i have tried so many versions of activesyn 3.x-4.5 with reboot each time of installation ,advanced network diabled, still the same thing " usb device not recognized"
sorry for inconvenience what is usb moniter machine??

Shot in the dark but I had the same problem with a friends 6700. I found out that the antivirus/firewall/internet security suite was blocking the proper ports needed to connect. When I disabled the software for a moment, attempted a sync it would work, then I could turn the software back on and be fine. If I disconnected and reconnected it would only charge. Give that a whirl.

Can't connect to 8125

Are you using Windows XP or Vista? Activesync doesn't work in Vista.
Sorry, I for got to add that I am using XP. Also, I performed a hard reset back to the stock Cingular rom with no results.
Huh, but it is charging when connected with USB cable?
Yes, it charges through usb and I get the charge indicator light at the top. Everything seems fine with the phone but I just can't connect.
Check your firewall to see if it's blocking Activesync. Also, in Activesycn under file > connection settings, make sure that the allow usb connections is checked. On your PC, make sure that your usb ports are functioning correctly. You could try unistalling and re-installing Activesync.
That's all that comes to mind.
Thanks for the help mdhensley5,
My firewall is turned off and usb is enabled under activesync. I have an MDA and an SDA that connects with no problem. I even tried ActiveSync 4.1 with no luck.
Try >Start >Settings >USB to PC and check or uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality".
I don't see a "USB to PC" option under settings. Is it under System, Personal or Connections?
Under Programs > Accessory I found an option for USBSwitch with two choices: Serial and RNDIS. It is on Serial.

For upgrade you don't need Active sync , rather while upgrading active sync is atomatically turned off,For upgrade go into boot loader mode in your phone than connect USB cable, then see on your phone you'll see small usb appearing at the bottom of the bootloader screen,if it's there tha you can flash any rom you like.
but, sure you wud have to establish connectivty between phone and Pc via Active sync if you want to add or install any more applications or software.but it's not required for upgrading or flashing a Rom.
Which version of Active sync you are using and which Windows?,download the latest ver 4.5 and install,as for windows,do all your upgrades using WinXP Sp2. You might require to upgrade Windows Installer version 3.1,update it through Windows update from Microsoft website, good luck
Thats another problem lol getting the usb on the booter loader screen but when I run the button rom it can find it think i might just buy another sync cable

well, what I can make out of your post is that you are not able to establish connectivity through Active sync, but your usb cable is fine and you want to upgrade ?does your phone gets charged via usb ?what you mean by 'when I run the button rom it can find it,find what ?

Big Problem?

I was performing the radio update on my MDAIII and now he hangs in the bootloader with USB in the upper middle und 2.08 in the under middle. All resets won`t bring it back to life. If I try to reinstall the update all I get is a blank message screen (update from version to version) in my Vista. How can I get out of there.
I did everything what was stated here
The original BAUpgradeUT won`t find my device. The MAUpgradeUt_noID.exe gives me the blank screen with the update from to screen.

Failed MDA II flash with vista notebook
Hello everybody,
I just read this thread in hope to find a solution for my problem, which is quite similar to the one described here initially.
I got a used MDA III with T_Mobile ROM. Since I'm a customer with O2, I wanted to change the ROM to O2 as well. I followed the directions given in an other thread here (don't have the link just now) and during the flashing, the flash application suddenly had no connection to my MDA III anymore. It was securely settled in its craddle an connected to my laptop via USB. Now my MDA III is stuck in Bootloader Mode with USB v2.07 displayed on the screen.
Each retry of installing either the O2 or the T_Mobile ROM now meet with the error 101: no connection. I read here that you managed to update successfully with a vista pc. Thus I wanted to ask, how you did that since I just don't seem to find the reason for the connection failing each time.
Here is what i tried to establish connection so far:
* disabled virus scanner & firewall
* unplugged the mda III and plugged it in again. It was recognized as a new device but that didn't help the connection issue
Could you please post what you did to make the update work under vista? Help would be greatly appreciated

Try on computer with Windows XP and kill activesynk (wcecomm.exe on taskmanager/processes)
Maybe it will work. If u cant flash O2 ROM try to use "MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe". On my Qtek 9090 allways flash using this APPS and allways work.
U can try too format device first, put it on candle and use "mtty1.42.exe". On XP, kill active sync, and open mtty1.42.exe and select port USB and put OK. Do "Enter" on command and should appear USB>. After this write Task 28. This will format all your PC. Try install SO after this. This command delete all files on PPC. I have attach files that you maybe need.
thankfor the tipp and sorry for my late reply. Since I have no XP PC available i tried the mtty1.42.exe on my vista notebook. When i run it however, it only lists com port 1-3, no usb port. Do i have to make a special configuration on vista for it to work?
Thanks in advance,

In vista i dont know...sorry for my late reply too.... in XP u must kill ActiveSync process called wincecom.exe. in vista, maybe u have to kill the Windows Mobile Device Center....i dont know...
Dont forget, put the Qtek 9090 in Boot Loader Mode (Pressing Power Button + Record Button + Reset), maybe will appear USB and u can format the device.
If this does not work, try on Windows XP....Find a friend with Windows XP and ask him to use his PC only to do that.
Maybe somebody in forum have the Windows Vista and can help u....
Sorry my terrible english....

Just Flashed to Dutty's newest hybrid

I flashed to duttys latest hybrid release yesterday. Last night Activesync stopped working. It shows on the Tilt that it is charging, but pc does not recognize the ppc. It does not show up in device manager nor the network settings. If anybody has any clue what has happened I would really appreciate any help offered. I have done numerous hard/soft resets, uninstalled/reinstalled activesync, checked/unchecked advanced network functionality, and everything else people have suggested. Thanks in advance.
Please post this under Dutty's thread.

Damn, Like this hasn't been covered a bunch of times. I will go ahead and say it one more Time.
Step 1: Unplug your phone from your computer.
Step 2: On Your Computer Open ActiveSync. Goto File -> Delete Mobile Device. Click Yes to Refresh it.
Step 3: Restart your Computer.
Step 4: On your Device. Open ActiveSync. Goto Menu -> Options. Select the Windows PC Listed and Click Delete.
Step 5: Restart your Device.
Step 6: Plug your Device Into the USB Sync Cable.
Some time when you Flash a Device. The computer doesn't recognize that the phone plugged in is, in fact, the same phone.

One of the USB Devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned

DESPERATELY NEED HELP.
Every time i connect my wizard to my machine using the USB cable, i get the following message in baloon.
"One of the USB Devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it."
It appears as "Unknonw Device" on windows device manager.
This started happening when i changed my ROM to AMP.v2.Vanilla. Prior to that my wizard was connecting fine. I have been trying to resolve this for days now but no luck.
Following are the things i have tried.
1. Un-installed Activesync & re-installed.
2. Soft & Hard Reset the device.
3. Tried going in bootloader so that i can install my preivous rom, but the machine still doesnt recognize the device and gives the same message as mentioned above.
4. Removed all the USB controllers and re-installed in the machine.
5. Tried on different machines but same results, so its not machine specific.
6. Tried with a new cable to so its not the cable, it has to be the device.
Anyone who can help with this. I am sure i am not the only one having this trouble.
Any kind of help is appreciated. Just need to connect and go back to my preivous rom.
FYI: I am running WINXP SP2 on my machine.
ROM: 10.0.0.10
Radio: 02.69.11
Protocal: 1.1.13.30
Thanks in advance.
Nick.
You can flash in bootloaders mode, its not necessary to activesync.Get you phone in Bootloaders (tri color screen) by holding down Camers button and either Soft Reset or push Power On button,it'll go into bootloaders, hook up the phone with pc via usb cable, watch small usb appear at the bottom of the bootloaders, its good to go and run the RUU in the Rom,it'll start to flash and upgrade.Solve the activesync problem afterwards.
Thanks for the reply mate but i have already tried that.
I went into the booloader and connected the usb. It does show USB at the screen, however my PC doesnt recognize it and the RUU doesnt run. It says to connect the device.
I am not at all worried abt the activesync. Syncing is the last thing i'll think. I just want to connect and go back to my previous rom.
Any other suggestions.
Please see attached screen shots.
This sounds like a hardware issue on your phone. I doubt this works but go to start -> settings -> connections -> usb-pc and either check or uncheck the box then close that app.
If that doesn't work Search for the thread on flashing from the miniSD card. But again, this sounds like the usb on your phone has failed.
I have tried checking the USB to PC and unchecking it. No help with that.
One more interesting thing is the phone does get charged with the USB cable, just doesnt connect.
Will check the thread for flashing from minisd.
Thanks bunches.
hmm,
Hard reset your phone and uncheck the option 'allow network connections' or something in the phone settings...> connections...> usb to pc
This error occurs when there is an “open port error” before upgrading ,You can reset the device and run RUU again. If you still encounter an “OPEN PORT ERROR” again, reset your computer and try again. disable or stop any antivirus/firewall running or any other such program which might be hindering the flash, don't surf the net.
Kill 'WCESCOM' altogether,in the Task Manager, stopping activesync.

hmmm, you got a connection problem buddy, the mini usb port of the phone is broken or damaged, you cannot flash with sdcard method, untill you already had made a backup of the rom earlier and saved it on the sdcard.
Get the mini usb port of the phone repaired or you can try to wriggle it a bit and check if it works and try to hold it there in that possition till the flash completes.
IS there a place i can get step by step process of flashing through SD card?
For all the forums, i am not able to understand anything./

Dang, thats right. I forgot that on the Wizard you can only flash a previously saved rom image. Can't just flash roms like you can on the Tilt.
Yep, basically, you have to get the USB port fixed as you are stuck where you are currently at on the Wizard I'm afraid.
Thanks guys. Have given my Wizard to get the Mini USB Port changed. I have my fingers crossed. Hope it works.
What exactly happens to the mini usb port?
I am having the same problem syncing.

Dear NIce_shire,
i am having the same problem and i got it resolved just by holding and tightly pressing the mini usb in my device. Its basically the problem with mini usb port of pda (Hardware) not a software one. Get it reparied from market or do it by urself. Good Luck!
USB link?
Hi mfrazzz
I have the same problem - USB link stopped working after a Radio upgrade. Definitively not a h/w USB miniport problem. Even when I get the Wizard G3 phone into bootloader and the USB word is at the bottom in the white line, flashing ROMs does not work as the RUU reports Error message stating no USB link (BTW, ActiveSync also reports no mobile device present and doesn't connect).
Is this a bricked phone then?
Thanks.

PS The set is an MDA Vario and I had successfully installed S.V.I.s Manila 4.5 Beta (IPL 1.01, SPL 1.01 shows now, but was IPL 1.01, SPL 1.06 prior to installing Manila and Radio was 1.12.10 and I upgraded it to 2.69.11 and then the bloody thing stopped working and the USB link can't be enabled again)
Dear all,
I was facing the same issue of "USB device malfunctioned" and got it resolved yesterday. Its not because of software neither coz of cable (i did changed lots of cables but faced the same issue), its just because of mini USB in device. Its working perfectly alright now, it may not be replaced even dont need replacement at all. It needs minor soldering, even you can do it by urself. Just open 4 screws at its back (two under the camera cap one is below stylus placement and 4th is on opposite side) and open it. No need to be worried about......

[Q] Can't Change to USB?? Need Help ASAP!!!

Hi, I've an Ba with WM6.5 in it. But when I want to reflash it, the BA wasn't detected by my computer. I've put it into the bootloader mode, but it just shows Serial, even I've waiting for almost 2 hours. But when I boot the OS, it can connected to the PC via ActiveSync. What's going on here?? Is my BA or my cradle broken??
are you running XP if so open CTRL ALT DEL then look for wscesscom or somthing and end task and then WcessMgr OR somthing and end task and try
You should see Troubleshooting in the WIKI ~ http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/ActiveSync
I've done all of that, but still not working. I think it's not in the activesync, because I can connect my BA to the PC, the problem looks like in the bootloader mode.... It just standing there shows "serial" and "V2.07", even I've connect it to the USB port... Any ideas??
Is there are any possibility I can repair my bootloader (if it's really broken)??, or Can I reflash my BA with other way around?? Without using the bootloader maybe??
UPDATE:
Later, I think I began to recognize the problem...
In every tutorial for Win7 that I read (this tutorial and d-two's tutorial), I was ask to update the driver of "Microsoft USB Sync". But in my case, that "Microsoft USB Sync" wasn't shown. I think it's because I haven't sync my BA with the PC yet (I've just reinstall my Windows, so all of the setting is gone). If you sync your BA, you will get the "Microsoft USB Sync" on your device manager.
But now, the problem is, I can't sync my BA with the PC, because of error in my PIM (Contact, Calendar, Task, Phone, Messages, etc). I only able to explore my devices through ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center, not synchronize it. Even my ActiveSync/WMDC shows an error on the connection. So, I can't update/install the driver for "Microsoft USB Sync", because my BA have an error connection with the PC. Any ideas to solve it??
And would cloning method worked for my devices?? I mean, I get a cloning from another BA, install it in my BA, and then repeat the reflash process with my preferred ROM??
Please, need help over here....
try a hard reset
