Does opera mobile 9.5 use a proxy for server side rendering like Mini/skyfire,or Does it work like a traditional browser like PIE or 8.5?

I think its rendered on a server first. Ive had a go with 9.33 beta and im not too sure about the interface...i need to have more time with it i think.
I was under the impression that Opera Mini 4 was rendered through proxy and that full browsers like opera mobile 9.33 and 9.5 beta and Netfront 3.5 concept were non-proxy browsers that just had good code, allowing them to render pages quickly.
No Proxy Guys!
Using IpChicken.com I got the following results:
Opera 9.5
IP:70.11.103.***
DNS:70-11-103-***.area7.spcsdns.net
Opera Mini 4
IP:195.189.142.170
DNS09-09.opera-mini.net
So all the work is being done on the phone's processor and not the server. Which I imagine it would be because 9.5 can render flash animation and animated gifs in real time (Opera Mini does not). I hope that clears everything up.

No it isn't. Opera Mobile is a full browser.

Anyone have this on their Tilt/TYTN II and able surf the web? I keep getting an error that says "Unable to connect to the server. Please try later". I can connect with PIE, and Opera Mini, is there a setting or something I'm missing?
I dont use mine often, but I used it about 9 hours ago and it worked fine. With the older version, I got that error from time to time, maybe about 3% of the time. But since using the latest version, I have never seen the message.
I had to connect to the internet with regular IE, then start up Picsel Browser before it would work. You might try Netfront Browser instead, it works a lot better IMO.

Agreed. IMHO, Picsel is just isn't worth bothering with. Alternative browsers are WAY better. See http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...new Opera Mobile, Picsel, Spb Pocket Plus etc.
Thanks i'll check out net browser, i really liked the way picsel was setup but i can't tell how surfer the net is, all i know is PIE is slow for surfing the net and i don't like the way Opera Mini is setup, i've tried minimo which isn't too bad, but i can't seem to be able to scroll using the screen w/it, i have to use the scroll bars on the side and bottom.
Why don't you give Opera 8.65 mobile a try. I mean the real Opera mobile not Opera Mini. NetFront used to be my favourite browser but now I think Opera Mobile has overtaken NetFront plus the developers of NetFront have excessively slowed down their development process. Just see for almost a year they are just posting Technical Previews of version 3.4 and not the final version and for most of the Technical Previews I failed to see how it differed from the previous except for an extended expiry date.

does opera mobile work similar to opera mini? i mean the functions were you click to type into the search section of a site then it opens up another window were you type in what you want? that's one of the few features i don't like about opera mini, that and you can't take off the yahoo search function. and are you able to play youtube video's on opera mobile? or do you have to add programs to do that?
The behavior for new windows opening in Opera Mobile is exactly the same as on the real desktop internet explorer, specially if you have set it to allow opening of Pop-Up windows.
Regarding playing of Youtube movies, yes it does manage playback but the video is very choppy.
I suggest why not try the free evaluation version?
Regards

that's what i did was download the 30day trial, i'm mainly just looking for something that will load pages a little faster than PIE, if i can play videos of sites, that'd be nice too, but loading pages quickly is what i'm looking for. so far it seems no faster than PIE.
can i watch the good trailers?
In Order For Picsel To Work by itself... You Have To Do The "always Online" Hack
All mozilla users already know Greasemonkey and userscrips
Opera competes with userjs.
I'm a user of opera mobile 9.5 since the early beta development and I really love this browser (now Diamond Opera v9.5 Build 2392 with Flash is even better).
it's a hobby playing the browser based game ikariam from wifi hotspots but it really lacks the gameplay provided with some greasemonkey scripts.
Anyway i tried these instructions (For Opera desktop)
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=244774
but i couldn't make it work.
How is it possible to run several *.user.js files in opera ppc browser?
Please help
No one is using userJS on opera PPC?
Hi guys, I want to share with you some of my impressions considering the options we have for web browsers.
I personally don't like browsers like skyfire/opera mini which does not render the real page, but prerendered on server image kind of page (streamed to the browser). Also in some cases it is much slower, because some local sites must go to outside servers, rendered there and put back on my "browser". For such sites, the connection I have is much better than the connection skyfire server has.
Opera 9.7: even in it's early beta stage has problems rendering pages, some of which look very awkward. Have you seen this forum on 9.7, the links to the threads are HUGE comparing to all other browsers. Many other sites I visit do not render correctly too, problem that does not exist in Opera 9.5. I hope that they will fix that in the later versions of 9.7.
Iris Browser: so far the best browser in rendering quality and almost the same speed as Opera 9.5/9.7. That's because of its engine: WebKit - it is far superior in standard support and rendering quality than Opera's engine for example. The only 2 minuses I see in it is that first it lacks full screen (the one they call full screen has the buttons on the bottom still visible, which is not the same as Opera 9.5/9.7's full zoom). The other drawback in this browser is it's double tap zoom, very often the zoom is not enough and I need to zoom in one or twice to make the text easily readable.
Flash support: I have flash support under 9.7 and it is as bad as it was before. Only some banners are rendered, the online videos can not be streamed, and when I zoom page, very often the flash banners are moved on wrong coordinates, placed on text or somewhere else it should not be. All in all, its far better without it.
Opera 9.5: so far the most reasonable choice as it has better zoom than Iris, and renders pages better than 9.7 (still not as good as Iris, but usually with no problems).
I can't search for "opera 9.5" in the forum (the numbers are confusing the search engine and after search no results can be found). I am using Itje's Touch-it 10.4, which has no opera 9.5 in it. Can you please send me a link to the latest 9.5 builds of Opera. I really miss that browser. Thank you in advance!
I'm a new fan of Netfront v3, seems a pretty good and fast browser.
I'll dig the .cab out for you and post it.

Thank you very much or this link. I've also installed NetFront 3.5. It is fast browser, but it doesn't seem to have tap-to-zoom feature, also I can't zoom more than 125%, which on X1's display is still too small for text reading.

Is this tha latest R3A stock Opera Rom? I cannot remember the latest stock Build number.
The point for all browsers is: Only the X1 Stock Operas support the optical joystick.
Its straight off my R3AA013 O2 UK stock ROM.

in opera:config you can change zoom to make links and text better. I changed it from 200 to 140 and it works better. clicking on links in 9.7 is better than 9.5. The only thing I miss from 9.5 is scrolling with optical joystick.
agree with thelucius
opera 9.5 is best for now
iris is good but font rendering not comparable to opera
fennec seems bulky
and skyfire looks blurred
can anyone please make a cab of default sony ericsson x1 start page.
missing it on custom roms as it was easier to get user guide with it
thanks

The 200 to 140 thing really helped, thanks!
I still prefer Opera to anything else, just has the best UI in my opinion.
Once I installed operamobile 9.7
I completely ditched 9.5
9.7 is faster and has even better UI.
Both crash anyway.....
So my main browser is OMini 4.2,
with 9.7 doin' what 4.2 cannot do!

Opera 9.7 also let's open links zoomed out.
What is Mach 5?
Hey guys, I apologize in advance if there is a thread for this (I searched, honestly, but did not find what I was looking for)
I was wondering if there is a fast loading, flash playing (ex. youtube) version of Opera mobile. I don't want to use Opera 9.7 due to the fact that I'm not interested in using a server based browser (privacy issues), turbo mode renders pictures horribly, turbo mode loads only on mobile website version for some websites, and the browser loss the ability to reformat columns when zoomed in, loss of using zoom in hardware button.
I am currently using NFSFAN's Opera 9.5 build 16643 vga which is fast, but wanted to know if there is a faster version (also this version does not support youtube).
Well, thx guys. Take care.
?
I dont know which is faster, but why do you need youtube in the browser when you have a dedicated youtube app?
skyfire
I'd say give a try to Skyfire....It is fast and support youtube (and any flash)
Cheers!
+1 for the skyfire, till now there is no competition, skyfire in my opinion is the best mobile browser there is. still if u like opera wait a little longer till they release a final version of the 9.7 browser. it should support flash than.
Skyfire works well but the browser image quality is diffuse.
Opera Mobile 9.5 Build 16453 & 16070 both work well

If you want the fastest Opera browser for the Touch Pro? Get OperaMiniV8
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=455655
Faster than Skyfire, Opera (any build) and Iris...tried them all...however no flash support.
Skyfire...Skyfire...Skyfire!
I have to agree Skyfire for overall use is the best hands down browser I use on my Touch Pro. It seems to be the most stable and does not dump out in the middle of searching or scrolling through web pages (ala Opera any version). If you can get past the diffuse of the page loads then you will enjoy the overall experience of FULL web browsing on your phone.

Skyfire is the best, but it looks like QVGA.
Even then... Still the best
Built in my personal ROM since the begining
Works great on the gtablet! Fast and smooth I am really surprised!
Sent from my optimized G-Tablet.
+1
I've tried dolphin for pad and xscope pro and opera mobile by far is better on the gtab. Scrolling is so much smoother, way less lag.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
I like Opera but i find that i often need to click on a url shortcut multiple times. Looks like page is loading but it does not load. Anyone else?
Is there a difference between Opera Mobile and Opera Mini, or are they the same? All I found in the Market was Mini. Running Vegan-tab 5.1.1 Froyo.
Yea...im using Opera Mobile to. Fast. I use to use Opera before switching to Chrome on the PC.

There is significant difference between Opera Mini and Opera Mobile, main difference is where rendering engine is installed. Opera Mini puts all the efforts of rendering on external server, including content compression on the top of that. Opera Mobile is a full browser, like on PC, rendering web pages on device.
I'm using both depends of the conditions:
1. Mobile for wifi and complicated websites - office and home
2. Mini for data plan - as the compression takes place I can save data, also battery drain is lower as the heavy CPU load is put on Operas servers. - traveling and on the way
Try both and see how it works
