HTC P4300 - Upgrade .Net or new ROM? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

Hello, I have an HTC-P4300 (not badged as something else) provided by an local wireless outfit. It is unlocked, actually I don't think it was ever locked! Anyway... I don't really want to update the ROM to WM6 or anything like that, but it has an old version of the .Net CFW on it. There are one or two programs I would love to run, but can't bring myself to chew up 12 of my remaining 14MB or device storage to install .Net.
For me, this begs the question if there is a way to replace the existing .Net in the ROM so it is not using my "user" flash? Any ideas would be great.
I am also a linux user so regardless of the solution I expect I will need activesync won't I? Anyone do these types of upgrade with Linux? Just curious. Thank you for your help and ideas!!

Radio Version-01.09.10
Protocal version-4.0.13.20
Extrom version 1.8.10.104
Not trying to be rude, but you really need to spend a week or two reading the threads in the "Wizard Upgrading" forum before you even thinking of flashing your Rom.
FYI firmware is for cellphones, Roms are for Windows Mobile Devices.
As to which Rom to use, that depends what you're looking for.
You can go for the latest, the most stable, or one that supports a specific feature. Again this is somethign you really need to read-up on. If you are looking for a specific feature use http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php .
Honestly, you will gain speed and stability with any 2.x Rom.
To use one of the custom Roms you will need to CID unlock your device (search for it) first.
For your first flash you might just want to stick to an official Rom.
First, don't even think of attempting a CID unlock until you figure out if you have a G4 chip or not, unless you want to turn your MDA into a brick. There are other articles on the unlocking forums, as well as the Wizard forums that go into this in detail.
Until this is ironed out, I'd consider paying $40 to the guys at www.imei-check.co.uk. I've not heard any bad press about these guys, so if you want a SIM/CID unlock, go here.
If its freezing up on you, I'd consider backing your stuff on it, doing a hard reset, and restoring it. Make sure you have the data backed up (if ActiveSync doesn't have it, there are other backup utilities which can work well for your MDA you can purchase.) If you are getting freezes with just the factory installed stuff on it, you may have a hardware issue.
Lastly, quite a number of things can be enhanced/fixed without a ROM reflash, so unless T-Mobile USA comes out with new downloadable ROMs, I'd not worry about a reflash just yet.

Best rom for preformance?

I want to try out some different roms out there, I have a friend who uses the phone for pictures, sms, and email, and calls of course. So she really doesn't need all the bells and whistles, but Touch-Flo is always a nice addition.
The default T-Mo rom is so overkill, and the phone runs slow as hell. I'm looking to find a rom that gives the best preformance. I don't know if that would be the best option with the roms I've found my doing some backdating. I figured maybe someone out there has an idea how to get the best usage for the phone.
In this forum there are 2 great roms. One by PDAviet and one called Touch_It. I would get the file called RUU-Altas and then try both of these 2 cooked roms.
You might find one suites you better than the other. The reason for the RUU file is because if you have the T-Mobile Wimg (im assuming since you are posting in the Herald section) then you will need this in case you brick your phone. Before you do anything to your phone or anyone elses phone i highly recommend you read. Might save you alot more time then trying to do a plug and play with anything on this site.
Noone of the software here is licensed through HTC or Windows so its completely test at your own risk.
Good luck
Well, so far I have one sucessful rom change on my own wing. So thats one run through.
But when you say RUU (I'm not sure what that stands for) Atlas, I see one thats t-mo. From my understanding the RUU is a rom of the original image that you get when you start the wing straight out of the box.?
RUU stands for Rom Update Utility. It is used for update your device asa a new ROM version is issued.
You need an original ROM update package in order to recover your device in case it gets bricked.
Please note that the chance of bricking a device is not that rare. I flashed my device just yesterday with an original WWE ROM (instead of ITA) and an error occurred on the first try => Bricked device!!
So I had to "unbrick" my phone with the original ITA rom before giving the WWE update another try. It worked flawlessly on the second run.

install multiple rom or not?

do ppl install and enable multi roms--like multiboot on pc?
or do they hafto recompile or such to get tweaks like they want?
like ala carte.. pick and choose and recompile
or do they just find what they like best?
im assuming that a rom completely wipes out and starts phone fresh?
thanx
Answer is probably very simple: no
Don't ask me technical details, but that's just the way it is. Android, due to it's nature, can be run on an existing ROM (making it a sort of multiboot...)

Dual boot is not possible with our devices as of yet. I am not even sure if this is doable at all. People who are technical and capable cook their own ROM and use it. Others just find what they like the best and use it. And yes, you are correct that flashing a new ROM completely wipes out the device; however, some files could be left behind from old installation so one of the steps in flashing recommends hard-resetting your device to completely clean the memory.
so android is for kaiser only and i assume that this means Not Tilt?
that android page has 386 posts to wade thru...
the terms kaiser and tilt are not completely interchangeable?
thanx
The Kaiser and Tilt terms are quite interchangable. There are some differences, but Kaiser is the general HTC codename for the device, and Tilt is just a branded version of the Kaiser (with some naunces; a subversion you might say).
Andriod can be used on a Tilt.

Mass Flash

Evenin' all.
Might be a long shot, and I think I walready know the answer but thought I would just double check quickly.
I have about 100 HTC TyTnII phones that are on windows mobile 6.1 and need be downgraded to windows mobile 6.0 due to incompatible software.
Each day i am also having to do the same with a small handful of other TyTnII phones.
I have flashed a load of them with no problems using USB. Yesterday i tried to use an SD card which also worked fine on a test phone that we use for development, but it wont work on phones arriving direct from the factory.
Im pretty certain that its because i ened to unlock the CID (???) or flash the SPL (???) but this is time consuming and tedious.
Is there anyway of doing this part using an SD card? If not, what is the fastest way to do it on the road or on site when i dont have access to my computer?
Any ideas that you can bounce at me would be appreciated, and also it would be a good help if you can verify if what i have said is correct.
Cheers guys.

Moved as not ROM Development.
As long as you use the original carrier ROM then CID won't be an issue.
Sorry about posting in the wrong place, was searching the forum for an answer and see a post in this area regarding a similar issue.
When you say original carrier ROM, do you meant the extaxt same rom that came with the phone, or a ROM from the same network provider ect?
They are English Orange WM6.1, so would I need any other English Orange WM6.0 rom? Or am i (probably) mistaken?
Your correct CID checks the vendor ID so you have Orange WM6.1 you will want Orange WM6 ROM as then vendor ID matches.
The other option is to just hard-spl them all wouldn't take long with laptop 5 mins each then you can bypass vendor ID check. "may be easier as don't know if Orange WM6 easily available?"
Would I be able to use WinRar to extract the NBH file from here and use that to flash the phone via SD Card without modifying or touching anything else on the phone?

Just wondering if anyone has got any more info on this?

New xperia owner need help please

Hi, i've just got a new Xperia X1, a new one but for reasons beyond my control i got no CD whatsoever with it. I will like to have a new ROM of course and all that good stuff i have seen here but now comes the thing i need help with:
what software do i need to run on my PC to connect it to Xperia for upgrade, flashing etc, and where i can get this software from, or even the whole Xperia CD to download? I run Win7 64bit Ultimate Edition on my PC.
Thank you very much for your help. I am sorry i've posted in a wrong section
P.S. I promiss to post here a "how to" for making your xperia auto-rotate exacly like the devices that use an accelerometer for that. Just need a bit of time for pictures, write-ups etc.It will be the "poor man's" method though, but very effective.
if you would like to make a official upgrade, than you need SonyEricsson Update Service (you can find it on SE's site)
for cooked roms, first make a Hard-SPL, than flash a custom rom (read stickies above)
if you flash with pc, you will need windows mobile device center (not needed with micro-sd method)
Thank you. The guy who sold it had already installed WM 6.5 on it. It means that it has Hard SPL already?
correct, you already have hard-spl
Windows Mobile Device Center for Windows 7 PC is also needed to establish an Active Sync connection. Available at microsoft.com
All additional software including guides on how to flash custom ROMs can be found in the stickys.
Thank you.
