I hope you all had a great Xmas.
This is just a follow on from my preious post, in which I was asking for advice on whether I should get a Tytn II (thanks to all that replied to that post, by the way). I think I have made up my mind and will probably get a T-Mobile branded Vario III here in the UK.
My question is regarding the upcoming Windows Mobile 7 operating system...
How soon is this likely to be released? I heard on a mobile tech podcast that it could be as early as Q1 2008, with handsets being released with Win Mob 7.
How would this affect a purchase of the Vario III now? Would Win Mob 7 be a possible upgrade for the Tytn 2 / Vario III? I realise that any OS upgrade would be an operator decision, so how likely would T-Mobile UK release an upgrade for the Vario III? If not, would I be able to easily get hold of a Win Mob 7 ROM from these forums when the time comes? What about the most recent Win Mob 6.1 upgrade?
Apologies for all the questions, but it has thrown a small stone in the works regarding my purchase of the Vario III.
Any advice will be very much appreciated.

I'm not an expert, and do not have any links to (relevant) device producers or Microsoft.
But my understanding is that Q1 2008 will see the release of WinMo 6.1 Pro (The one out now is for non-touchscreen devices only). WinMo 7.0 is being worked on intensively, however from what I have read it won't be out till end 2008/early 2009.
Apparently WinMo 7.0 will be somewhat of a revolution though.
My advice to you: if you like the Kaiser, get it. 2 years ago, I held my breath because of the Samsung F700 (a friend working at Samsung had leaked the info)...I ended up waiting till this October, when I thought "screw it". Got the Kaiser instead (was on the Universal till then), and never looked back (the F700 was released in Nov, with most of the promised features omitted).

Horrible post... I've just spent most of my Christmas holiday flashing my TyTN, re-flashing the flash, tweaking the re-flashed custom home cooked Dutty/Sleuth/Alex/Q/Schaps - and I've just got my phone how I like it ..... for today...
..... and then someone comes along and wiggles WM7 in front of my USB port.
Oh well, my Kaiser goes the same way as my Hermes, Wizard etc... If only I could stop flashing for a while I'd probably have time to sell the old phones

Rule Number 1 of Technology Buying:
Buy now unless there is an impending update(like next week or month).
I wouldn't worry about WM7 too much but about WM 6.1 which we'll probably all get an update for from our respective carriers(for people like me who run a carrier-based ROM like Alex's) So, just buy it and tinker away!

I think its no point waiting for WM7. You know about Microsoft, especially their Vista release on time. Though if they're gonna release WM7 anytime sooner or later, our kings at the xda will bring it to existing devices Lol.. So just go ahead for a good WM6 device. Kaiser is good and powerful and at the same time a little huge and heavy. I love the Artemis for the design and weight.
I wrote an article on how to buy the best windows mobile device. Not an expert over there but your suggestions welcome!

Glad to hear, great decision as the Kaiser is a great phone (especially if you get T-Mobiles web n walk unlimited data package...they sell it in the UK for 7.50pounds, don't know how much it is in the States though.)
And once you've flashed it with one of the wonderful ROMs here, you and your Kaiser will be flying like Vince Carter...

well ... my opinion might look a bit sarcastic, but since my old XDA II was re-born with WM6 (thx to ToFlock and other gurus here) I took a decision to wait at least for 6 months before buying a new rom-based device ... my criteria is to get a new device ONLY if it contains a new H/W that I might need ... I moved from XDA to XDA II for the camera and BT ... then moved to Universal for the VGA and WIFI .. then moved to Kaiser for the larger ram and GPS ... WM7 or else won't be the base for my decision of a new device.
Yeah.. I'd say Get kaiser now instead of waiting for WM7.
By the time WM7 device is out, you'll eventually hear through some rumours and leaked images of next-best-n-cool device(WM 8? or new codename)
There is no end to this feeling
So get it now and start Enjoy !!

Yup, i'm in the UK and am specifically looking at this device on T-Mobile mainly because of the £7.50 Web'N'Walk data plan. As for flashing the Vario III with one of the ROMs found here, how would this affect my contract with T-Mobile? If I do indeed flash the Vario with one of the ROMs, would I just need to hope that I don't ever need to take the handset back to T-Mobile if I ever have problems with it? ;o)

I have just bricked my hermes 30 mins ago tsk the day i finally fixed it (upper right hand screen tap) (bought it cheap black market brand new failed to check forum first). After it was stable for hours, while connected i upgrade to radio 1.43 and after it installed, it was still plugged and poof. screen faded and no more. not even a red light. (is there a solution?) totally ddead.
anyway I was thinking of buying a tytn II for replacement. should i buy? after all the raves and complaints im not so sure. im buying this because of u guys even if im new. i saw how u guys fixed up the hermes and i loved it even when it was bugging.
Usage summary :
I will abuse it. use it and charge it if battery dies while using it.
I will play games and test its capabilities to all its extent.
Application crazy and of course calls.
I have read of the rlod, battery life sucks, heats up too fast, unproper video drivers, software not working. So should i buy? thanks. im buying 2 coz im going to give it as a gift. but before i throw cash, please since u all have it and a lot of u guys are power users, should i buy it or go for a glofiish or hp ipaq 614 instead?

Buying stuff from the black market, and the way you talk? Nope - you should get the IPAQ or the Glitter or something - you are WAY too cool for the Tilt.

TyTN II / Tilt is up to you. From everything you have read in this forum, should be enough for you to make that decision. I can't tell you what you like and dislike. Anyway, Good luck......
I understand but it might be that nobody would post in the forum for raves of the tytn II and the most replied topics would be problem solving. Since a lot of you are actual users, i just want to know if you guys are happy with yours and if you could use it continuously for a long time.

Dont mean no disrespect. im new to this but i will abuse the phone. im just wondering if it could take the same abuse as the hermes did or will this phone heat up too much.

So guys, any raves about the tytn II? is it stable enough to use 3-4 hours straight? maybe reading an ebook or playing a game?
It's stable enough for me to last a whole week without restarting. The only reason I restart weekly is because I perform regular backups.

it's a great phone. problem is it has lots of bugs as well. if you can wait for the sony X1.

haha im actually asking for reviews not the decision. because as much bad as it has i bet it has a lot of good. as long as all the major functionality is there id give it as a gift if not nokia n95 for her tytn for me coz i dont mind customizing and doing the work it's just going to be hell if she calls me just to ask phone problems.
yes this freaking phone is a pua tool. cant wait for that reason it's an auto attention getter which makes her invest more time on u and therefore.... (move to next location or simply entertain). in any case chill back guys, hold drinks down not by the chest.

thanks i checked the specs but i think that's just like buying an hermes all over again except for the 500 mhz. but sony makes pretty stable phones. but i think it's still time to wait for the ultimate phone right now maybe im up for a second hand hermes and save the money.

but i could be MUCH happier with it if there were video drivers.
Been mostly happy with my Hermes.
Will get a Raphael/Touch Pro just as soon as my operator gets it.

HTC Wizard (T-mo branded) and i am very happy. if only it had 3g. Used to have an ATT Tilt (usa kaiser) and that was a big fat NO!
My Tilt is awesome with XDA Live 2.0.

I'm happy with my Prophet...
i am somewhat happy, but ill type it....im want a rom that will blow my mind, ive tried various roms and there isnt, in my opinion, that big of a difference, when i boot my phone, i wanna be holy sh!+ this rom is amazing but it may be inpart to the crappy video drivers but we will see.
I'm too happy with my little Touch....
Happy with my Sprint Touch with WM6.1 and GPS working. Looking forward to seeing the Raphael as I miss the keyboard from my Sprint Mogul, but don't miss the bulk.

I can't wait until AT&T recieves a updated version for the Tilt........ uuuummmm maybe the Diamond Pro........ooopps sorry I started day dreaming again.

Thought I would post to introduce myself. I signed on here (browsed & used this site in the past) since I just got a new phone (HTC Juno).
I go thru about 4 phones a year, I know thats nothing compared to some. I can stay content with the same phone for about 4 months before I get the itch to upgrade
Oh and if you wonder about the username, I love me some JDM cars

Why 4 months? The ideas we have here are meant to upgrade the same phone to make it even better than the one you really want, or the one that isn't fully released yet !

Welcome to the forums! This is a really great place to learn everything about your phone. It takes ages to read through everything (I'm still not finished! LOL) but it is so worth it. Hope you'll be keeping your phone for more than four months. I just recently sold my Hermes and I felt a little sad but I had it for about a year and a half and was just dying for the Touch Diamond.

It has been a few days, just hoping that someone may have heard something through the grapevine
Besides the Imagio I don't know of any phone other than the Touch Pro2 (which is bulky and has keyboard = me no likey much) that's CDMA and to my liking... I wish the HD2 comes out CDMA/GSM (like Imagio & TP2!!!)
I'm happy with my Imagio with it's mods (from PPCG, but I think the link is here too for the mods...)

loving the imagio even w/o the unlock
this is a first for me: because my phone's so cool i'm not that concerned for an unlock. i've unlocked all of my other phones from right out of the box cuz i just hated the whole verizon village that they set up on their stuff but this imagio is just so awesome.. don't get me wrong, i can't wait for the unlock!!! but still, it's not a biggie for me like all of the others were.. u?

Well Yeah to an extent yes... as this has wm6.5 loaded... but i'm in india and all the verizon bloatware is practically useless!!!! LOL... i want a Clean HTC rom or even better one from ENERGY...

nothing really new even over at ppc
I've PM'd back and forth with cmonex a couple of times now - she's definitely working on it. And she asked if I could help in testing,which I have agreed to do if she can walk me through it - I'm a noob when it comes to that. Other than flashing my Vogue a couple hundred times, I've got no programing experience (phone or otherwise).
I'll post any progress...
arl16, great news. Please keep us posted. Getting very bored with this phone and a little disappointed seeing every other phone out there getting updates while we still wait. If you want anyone else to help you out let me know.
