Is there anyway to distinguish a refurbished tilt? I came across this on Ebay and it got me wondernig... http://cgi.ebay.com/AT-T-Tilt-HTC-8...ryZ64355QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I bought mine off ebay "Brand new in box", but now im wondering if there was ever a way for me to really know. Does the H/W version or anything give it away?
yup, that one is a refurb.....the refurbished tilts come in a plain white box like the one shown in the picture. The new tilts come in more colorful box something like this
Hmm. . . I wouldn't know only buy if it came in a while box.

The Tilt you listed clearly states that the phone is a refurbished item.
"The winning bidder will get a HTC Tilt just as it came straight from AT&T....no add ons....the phone is still locked to AT&T network...This item is a refurbished unit, but you will not be able to tell, I have a refurbished one myself and when you get it, it looks BRAND NEW!!!"

Hello,
I think HTC Kaiser's screen is too delicate. Mine got cracked yesterday very easily. I've had many PDA phones and it never happened to me.
Does anyone know where can I get a replacement screen?
Thanks,
Mario.
How did it crack, you pushed too hard when trying to use TouchFlo? it fell. Cause there has to be a reason that gives you the impression the screen is too delicate
ha ha, that sucks
Well, depending on how long you've had it, maybe it's covered under the 30 day warranty for return? I can't imagine how someone could break it, so it sounds like manufacturing defect to me??
Sound good to you??
Give it a try....
Let us know how it happened and if you get it fixed!
Good luck!
And to Doug2873... Don't make the guy feel worse than I'm sure he already does!!

When I read certain posts in these forums, I wonder: So annoying online.... what it would be like to meet these people in real life? Although I guess everybody has one of these in their office...

Thank you all for your replies...I live in Mexico City and currently I'm in the US and there's no way of getting a replacement screen. HTC asked me to ship them the unit and they would charge between $170 and $350 USD for fixing it.
njbridges: I sent you a PM with my contact info.
I think we need a hard case for this device. Has anyone seen one?
Mine cracked because someone pushed me and I fell on it.
Thanks!
Regards,
MN
I think if SOMEONE fell on any PDA out there, the screen cracks is no wonmder. i think...
I read a Post where someone have cracked his PDA (i think mda3) because it feld off off the front window on his car and down to the gearbrick(?).. and it cracks the screen 2times.
I don´t have the feeling that the screen is more sensible as other screens...
Sorry for the engl. i´m from germany.

I too cracked my screen pretty traumatized about it, superiorgadgets is looking into it, but I will pm njbridges as well as a backup.
I'm unable to get the cracked screen out of the device, I have all the screwdrivers but I can't find a way of opening the Kaiser.
Any ideas?
Hope this helps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337102
Mine just cracked today, for no reason. It has never been dropped or abused, it's in new condition, not a nick or scratch on it, I'm extremely careful. It was on the counter charging and I went to take it off the charger and saw the screen was cracked. I called ATT and they told me I'm SOL, it would be $498 to repair.
yeah if u are comfortable best bet do it yourself and save $300-$400
I found the part for about $100 from another member here. I'm tempted to just replace it and sell this phone. While I loved the 8525, I haven't been particularly happy with the 8925. Maybe it would be better with newer firmware, but I won't know now unless I replace the screen. I wonder what it's worth for parts......
Mine has never been dropped, but after reading how easy is to break it I'm really concerned...
I have dropped my old 8125 like 10 times and it's still working like the first day...
I just ordered the replacement screen from njbridges today. I'll post after I've received the parts and add my 2 cents. If anybody is going to break something in this replacement process, it will be me. I'm completely inept at using tools. I can barely even change the batteries in my kids' toys.
well i bought a screen for my Kaiser off eBay, but it wont get here for another 2 weeks; great, it was supposed to be here today. if anyone has a new Tilt/8925/Kaiser screen they'd be willing to sell (pref in USA for shipping reasons) let me know; i need one in less than a week as im going overseas; the data on my phone and having my phone there is CRITICAL, my only backup phone is not compatible with european networks.
im willing to pay for overnight shipping and send payment overnight as well. please email me at [email protected] ASAP!
thanks,
Slade
hey, take a look at this, it seems like this tilt had the infamous red light of death happen to it, so he's selling it cheap,

I need to have my Tilt serviced under AT&T warranty and I was wondering if anyone has had experience with the Device Support Center?
I am debating whether I should use the mail exchange or take the phone to the Device Support Center.
I understand that you only get a refurbished replacement using the mail exchange.
My question is, if you get your phone exchanged at the Device Support Center, do you get a new unit or a refurbished unit? The AT&T website says that they will "swap" the phone, but no mention of whether i's a new or refurbed unit.

i did the mail exchanged and i got a refurbished one it took a week tho but you couldnt tell its refurbished been using it for a couple of months now and it just like brand new
Pretty much all places will give you a refurb after 30 days. Should they give you a new one if your used one is broken?
Traditionally the DSC only carries refurbs in stock. The best way to get a NEW model would be to call the warranty dept over the phone and request a new model. However, it is not a garauntee that they will reissue you a new phone unless they no longer have any seed stock equipment in stock.
But, AT&T fully tests the refurbished models before placing them in stock and should a refurb go bad, then you are welcome to call the warranty dept again stating that the refurb has gone bad and to replace it with a new one so that the problem doesnt continue to happen or get worse.
Lastly, keep in mind that regardless of when you get a phone from the DSC or the Warranty Dept, the ORIGINAL warranty still applies. So they only warranty the phone for 1 year from the original phone purchase date or 90 days if the phone is outside of the 1 year after replacement.
Hope this helps.
Glenn

I don't mind getting a refurb unit, but I don't want to end up with one of those earlier models with the usb/battery problem.
I was trying to see if anyone has had any experience with getting the phone exchanged at the "Device Support Center." Since ATT exchanges the device on site, I guess I could at least make sure the phone functions and that there're no visible defects.

I got my AT&T Tilt exchanged twice at the DSC in San Diego, California. They only carry refurbs but you really couldn't tell (well, I could for the first refurb I got...).
I'm not sure what 'usb/battery problem' you're referring to as my original Tilt that I got back in October 2007 didn't have that problem. Anyway, the two refurbs that I got were already loaded with the 'latest' ROM update released from HTC+AT&T.
Hope it helps.
Just a bit of info.
My dad's star trek's usb port died on him. AT&T sent him a wizard to replace it.

i do say things like that a lot. besides one of my stores is 2 blocks from the local DSC so it gets said more there than anywhere else.
ok for people who have actually been to a DSC...what is their protocol? do they carefully inspect the devices warranty voiding spots (black void sticker over back housing screw and white water damage pad) and do they inspect for physical damage closely?

Hey there guys. Please don't be angry for making another ****ty "how to unlock G1" thread. I wanted to post in the recent one, but i guess it got closed.
Well here is my question. I'm about to trade my TyTn II for G1. The problem is that the G1 is bought in Austria(T-Mobile) and i live in Slovenia. If i'm gonna call T-Mobile what should i say? My english isn't all that great, but i think i can handle it. The only problem is, if they are gonna speak German...
Lets say, they speak english. What should i say? I don't think you just say:" hey could you give me the code to unlock my G1?"
Maybe i'm a little annoying, but if there is anyone who is willing to help, i will be very grateful.

Think the policy is a lil different in other countries other than the US. We would normally say we are going out of the country so we need to unlock it to use an alternate sim. But in the UK they charge a fee unless you have been a customer for over a certain amount of time. I know its alot longer than the 90 days we have.
So there is no way to unlock it?
Edit: This is legit right? http://www.unlock-tmobileg1.com/
Cause if there isn't other way i'll just pay those 19€. That isn't so expensive.

My advice is buy one off eBay. Reasoning being, any website like that can make all the fake testimonies they want, and you could get screwed very easily. If you go to ebay you can choose a seller with good feedback who is clearly legit. I think I got mine from GSMcredits or something...

Calling T-Mobile only works if you are a current customer. If you aren't (and I assume that is the case) then find someone who is to call for you.

As long as they give you the correct code it will work on any G1, so you should be fine. That seller looks legit, due to the high rating too.

Yay. I got my white G1 today and i bought a code of ebay from the guy mentioned few posts above. Payed 10€ and got the code within 15min. Phone is now unlocked and i can't be more satisfied! G1 is awesome
Sweet, I had to unlock mine the first week cuz tmobile gets bad service here. The first site you posted is where I got my code, so they are legit. And don't worry about rooting and flashing roms because it wont mess up your unlocked status.

They are refurbished, and you should get your money back soon.
How do you know they're refurbished?
And secondly, if they are what do they fix on the refurbished ones? Why do they look new?
Thanks

They probably just fix what was wrong with the device in the first place when it was returned by someone and/or parts which look used or marked (I.e. cover). It wouldn't make a whole lot of fiscal sense for HTC to throw out every slightly defective phone
Got my replacement today and;
BRAND NEW WITH AMOLED SCREEN. BOOYAH
How do you order a replacement N1 if your phone is stolen? HTC doesn't appear to sell the directly, under any circumstances.
Man... you may be out of luck on that one.
give them a call here (USA only) 1-888-216-4736
Next time get insurance or something. Or glue it to your skin. :/

They aren't, the way you can tell is that the screws on the back have slight scratches on them, where the new ones are plain black. The good thing about refurbs are that they are 100% made sure to work, and they replace the mobo so its like new.
Definitely. But its all good. Besides the screen issue.
