I'm replacing the housing on my AT&T Tilt with the OEM HTC from CNN.CN as well as the front/QWERTY keypads,
I was wondering if anybody could verify the screwdriver set I need to replace such items - I've been searching but answers ranged from T4/T5 to T5/T6. I need to order them along with the repair items and wanted to make sure I got the right ones.
Thanks!
From what i got from Mike Channon's Dissasembly guide your going to need a T7, and a T6. Check out that dissasembly guide and see for yourself.
good luck and take pics along the way to share with everyone! Also were you able to locate the front camera?

Thanks, luckily I found a 12-in-1 set on eBay for $7 shipped!!
Cost $100 to replace the full housing and both keyboards I'll update the thread in a week or two after I get the parts to tell you how the install goes.
please show us pics. I wanna see a hybrid kaiser/tilt
what's the differences in the keyboards from the OEM HTC and the Tilt?
i thought the only difference was in the front camera and what not

Non-US qwerty keypads seem a bit bigger - I got one from Canada (had some "asian" characters on it) and it seemed a few milimeters too big for the fitment

Hello guys, I have a AT&T tilt (8925) frim U.S.A and I'm a cellphone technician and I just fixed one of this cellphone yesterday and found out that it has a connector for a front camera even a hole & place where to put it on. I want to modify it and see if it will work with a front camera ( if I put one on it) but don't know where to buy one, and one more problem is there anyway I can add this features on a flashing it from an original HTC TyTN II instead? because I know that the AT&T tilt(8925) doesn't have that on their software if I just put the camera(hardware) I know that it won't work at all because it doesn't have that features on the original SW of AT&T Tilt(8925)
1) I just want to know if someone can tell me where to buy the original front camera for HTC TyTN II(kaiser) for me to start
2) if it is possible to have this AT&T tilt(8925) flash to it's original HTC TyTN II(kaiser) version that has a features that you can choose if you want to use front camera or the back camera.
Please let me know and I will do this project and post my procedure and the outcome for all to see. If they want their AT&T Tilt(8925) to have a additional front camera. Thank you
if there is a place to buy the part it would be the cnn.cn site. Just search for replacement parts.
Yes there should be several roms that offer the video confrenceing. If you have spent any time researching this you would know this.
They don't carry it (at cnn.cn)

So, has anyone done this yet? I've got the front camera part in a bag in front of me, but haven't found a way to just remove the front housing. Every guide I've been able to find is for the full-on strip down, and I was hoping to avoid that.
Any info? If no one's done it yet, I'll try to get my act together enough to document the inevitable destruction of my phone, but forewarned is forearmed, as they say.

I would slide the phone out and flip it over. in the back of the screen part of the phone, remove four outer most screw( 2 toward the top and two toward the bottom of the phone) with the #5 torx driver. After that the shiny front should pop out easily with a little prying. that how i would do it.. good luck
Anybody knows if the 8525 front camera fits the 8925? Thanks.
Ok i know how to add a front camera to a tilt, if you take it apart and open the front cover you will see the connector for the camera just like the 8525 has, you need only the fcc camera to put in there (it isn't the same of the hermes 'cuz it has a vga cam, the tytnII has a 0.3mpx one). The worst thing is that i can't find that cam nowhere on the whole internet and i dont need to buy a tytnII with damage that surely will cost much more that the fcc only. There is a seller on Ebay that sells tytn cams, i asked if he can provide me a tytnII cam and he answered me that if i can find a cam he will buy it from me (LOL). now i am asking anyone here that has a front cam from the kaiser/tytnII or mda varioIII if want to sell it to me or if can point me to someone that can sell it. i also searched on cnn and other parts shop on the net and noone can provide it to me. i went to a device repairer and he told me that the cam will take 2/3 months to be shipped from htc and that i have to leave him my device...I know that them have no care of the item left in their deposit so i said no and took my tilt back home... please if someone know something just tell it to me...i will give a bounty...
Ken
maybe if anyone can try if the front cam of the tytn will fit on the tilt and wanted to do it i will be grateful!

He already tried cnn.
What ive always done in the past was search for nearly destroyed ( case/screen/ect ) for cheap misc parts for my devices. I havent looked around for the kaiser yet ( as i have no need of a cam on front ) but im sure someone has tried or s trying to sell one their dog bit into/ran over / ect.
Keep looking as one will surely turn up on fleabay eventually
ok i have to say you all that i SOLD my tilt for 300€uros, in Europe this are the prices for it. now i will buy a TytnII with a front cam or a Raphael. i will keep you informed. but in meantime i have to switch back to my prophet tank you all again!!!
Congratulationz!!!
USA and UK versions
im in the process of Modding my tilt and even buying parts im looking for some manuals or websites that can give me a guide on replacing the keyboard, screen, sim card holder and so forth step by step of the way, so i dont have to break anything to learn from it. I dont know if its possible but I want to even be able to change my tilt into adding the front video camera like the orignal HTC comes with, i know the keyboard is possible but to add the front vga video cam i dont know. The American version does not have this so adding it is very important to me. If anyone knows anything where i can find some directions on this please help. Do any of you know if its built into the outer body with a snap clip on the inside of the replacement part or not any insite of this is very much appreciated.
Even if anyone have any broken HTC Kaiser TyTn II laying around collecting dust
im interested in these as well if i cant find the manuals ill buy the broken units for parts etc. thanks in advance.

Hi Guys,
Last night my phone got damaged in an accident. The LCD is broken i think. but the digitizer is alright. I have run out of warranty so just wanted to know how much does the HTC service center charge for the repairing.
I am living in INDIA, Pune.
Also is there any way I can do it myself?
ebay tytn ii lcd... you should be able to find a couple... make sure you get a trox screw driver with it... its really simple to replace
HTC repair services are hard to come by, but there are some online services around $150 or so. you could find a screen on ebay for cheaper, but you will also need a T5, T6, and T7 torx screw drivers as well as tools to break the seam, and flat head and philips screw drivers, along with directions and about 3.5 hours of your time if you want to fix it yourself.

Ummmm nope friend....thats just the digitizer. They generally run around 45$ or so.

I hope this works. Also I read somewhere that there are two types of LCD,
Green and Normal.
Which one is this?
Take a look there:

I already ordered that one. I got a offer of free shipping too.
But I will need the help of you guys to fix the screen, Because though I am a Mechanical Engg. I am not so expert in such delicate things.
Mike Channon Should be your friend then
Mike has got you covered for detailed pics and I thought he had vids on his site as well, found HERE. It truly is a simple task. I've done it on 1 Hermes and 2 Kaisers. I should put a shingle up for this kinda stuff !

Ive taken apart my hermes about 50 times in total. It doesnt look like the kaiser is much harder. Ive had no need to as of yet. It might look a tad intimidating at first, but you should be fine. Just take careful to note what came from where as you disassemble it. Mikes guide is pretty in-depth do I would print it out and have a hard copy near you as you make the attempt

It took me 35 mins while watching tv and checking emails.
so it may not that long...
It was much easier than I thought. However use the 'only four screw removal method' - no need to take two parts apart as mentioned in some of the instructions you will find here.
I was able to take out four screws, pry apart the two pieces (had to order the special pry tool) and just push up the LCD screen, remove the connecting cable and take it out by sliding it out.

I have fixed the LCD and yes it is very simple task, hardly took 30 min.
Hi all,
My girlfriend has a MDA Vario III with a broken screen. The touchscreen is in tact but the screen itself is broken. Does anyone in Holland knows someone or a (online) shop who can fix this? Or if anyone has a service manual please let me know so i can order a screen and try to fix it myself.
TIA!!!
www.mikechannon.net
It's really easy to open and replace the screen in these. I've opened mine a few times, no problems.
Thanks so much for the manual. It really helps. I think i can do it myself. I have opend and fixed many Nokia phones but never a HTC. With the manual it should work. TNX again !
Search on ebay and other online places like cnn.cn for the screen and use that manual to replace it. Should be easy if you have experience opening devices.
Good luck and enjoy!
oh also while your at it, you might want to do the "screen hack" which allows you to tilt the screen to a greater angle than normal. I think a guide for it is found in the wiki, if not i remember it being on mike channon's site.

Thanks. I was looking for a screen at the www. This one is cheap also.
Can you tell me if this site is safe?
I ordered rom them before and sometimes the shipping is average speed and sometimes its insanely fast (considering its coming from hong kong).
The only issue i had with them is once i ordered a screen for an N82, the package arrived but you can tell it was opened by customs and taped back together. Well they didnt do a good tape job and there was no lcd in it. I emailed cnn.cn several times with no reply, so i just called my bank and reversed my payment. So i guess just buy insurance when you ship it and you'll be fine.
