Comm Manager Opening Randomly - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hey, I was looking at the other threads about this and I searched on google, but no one was really responding to the posts, but has anyone found a fix for the comm manager randomly opening when you slide the keyboard, or look at a text message?
I am using:
Rom 5.2.19199 (im going to upgrade tonight, but i have read that this bug still appears in the newer one.)
Radio 1.64.06.04
Thanks

Did you make sure Comm Manager was closed properly and not just minimized after its last use? It sometimes "pops up" for me after closing other programs, but then I just remember to actually close it.

yeah im pretty sure, i mean, its not listed in the task manager or anything. It usually opens up under the messaging program when i hit the notification button on the today screen, and then type a message with the keyboard and then close out of messaging. (if that makes sense)

I'm seeing this too when closing the Opera pre-alpha and sometimes when closing Messaging. Using Dutty's WM6.1 RTM.

i'm seeing the same thing too on an i760. task manager doesnt see it as being minimized.

In the Dutty 6.1 ROM Thread The Bug has been discussed. Here's how you can make it happen.
1. Open just about any program.
2. Slide Out Your Keyboard.
3. Close Your Keyboard
4. Close your Program of choice.
5. Marvel in the wonders of Random Comm Manager
6. ???
7. PROFIT!!!
You didn't say what ROM you were using. I'm curious as to if its a WM 6.1 Thing.

I too believe this is the work of underwear gnomes...

This has something to do with FTouchFlo, I believe. I have the same ROM running and I used to have that happen to me all the time. After I installed SPB Mobile Shell 2 and stopped using TouchFlo and the cube as a test, I've never had it happen again.
Though underwear gnomes are just as reasonable an explanation.

Speak of the devil. As soon as I posted this, I sent an email and the dang Comm Manager popped up. My initial hypothesis appears to have been erroneous. Apologies.

Yep, I have it too but just never posted about it. Rom info in my sig.

Hi,
Just to report that I've tryed many times, with differet aplications, with and without Ftouch and just never have this proble... (running Dutty's 6.1 19199)
cheers

This issue is already being talked about.... but we still don't have an answer or fix.
Here's a link to my thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1958220
I've also already PM'd dutty about it, and a few other people to see if anyones working on a fix for it but I havent heard anything back. It is terribly annoying.
I've tried re-installing the comm manager, installing different comm managers... and i've tried performing a few registry hacks, but it still does it.
The comm manager usually ONLY opens randomly, once you have launched the comm manager at one point or another. So if you never open the comm manager after you have soft reset, you shouldnt see it. However, if you open it... then close it, it will randomly appear.
It looks as if the comm manager is running in the background somehow, and CLICKING THE "X" doesnt fully close it, it just hides it. The comm manager also does not appear in the task manager windows or running program list in the memory. Weird huh?
This is happening to both my girlfriend and myself on both of our tilts...
Here is what we are working with:
Rom: Duttys WM6.1 5.2.19716 UC
Radio: Polar 1.58.25.14
To re-create the problem, just do this:
1st: open any program... (phone app, PIE, whatever...)
2nd: slide out keyboard
3rd: slide back in keyboard
4th: close opened program
And the comm manager will open back up.....

I use QuickMenu as my task manager and Comm Manager shows up in there like any other app. Closing it from the task menu stops it from popping up.

This isn't just isolated to Dutty's ROM apparently a couple people on the CUSTEL ROM are also having this. I wonder if they both started from the same base WM 6.1

Its not a WM6.1 thing as im using an original tmobile WM6 rom.
Rom 1.56.110.4
Radio 1.27.12.11
I also get this problem.

Well there goes my theory.

Can someone who actually has this problem say whether closing the Comm Manager through QuickMenu fixes things or not? I'm still pretty confident that it's just Comm Manager not closing properly and not showing up in other task managers.

Quentin's ROM; Q-Mobile 1.1 had this issue too.
In his newest ROM Q-Mobile 1.2 (WM6 ROM) he solved this issue.
If you are looking for a solution or fix, try to contact Quentin. Maybe he can help you.
BTW, his Q-Mobile 1.2 ROM is awesome. I'm running it for months already. It's fast and very stable.

Just tested that.. Yup if you Open Comm Manager and "close it" HTC End task Doesn't see it but Quick Menu does. If it is visable in Quick Menu It will pop up. Killing it Via Quick Menu and doing the same steps that brought it up before, it does not show up.
So Comm Manager isn't closing all the way. Which in itself it not a bad thing if it wouldn't pop up on Sliding out the Keyboard. Maybe... If its hiding in the back ground and you slid out your keyboard, since it switches to landscape mode Comm Manager is responding to that command switching to Landscape and forgot that it was "hidden." So If it could stay "hidden" during the switch from Portrait to Landscape and Back this problem would not exist.

commanager
i have a tilt with wm6 (2nd release) not wm61. i also have this annoying problem.
i noticed this after i installed poorly duck vista commanager. i don't remember if it was after the rom upgrade, though. please find a fix.

Installed Duttys WM6.1 5.2.19716 - Comm manager opens randomly

Ok.. so a few days ago I installed this:
Rom: Duttys WM6.1 5.2.19716
Radio: Polar 1.58.25.14
Everything works great... except for the stupid comm manager. I remapped all of my buttons... so now the only thing the comm manager is assigned to is the "press and hold SEND button".
However....
The COMM manager will randomly launch itself. It seems like it happens sometimes when i'll click text messages, or open slide out the keyboard... etc. etc..
For what it's worth.. i installed the same rom and radio on my girlfriends tilt, and her phone does the same thing. Has anyone else experienced this?
Yea, I was getting the same thing.
You should flash the latest version of that rom, it's the 1 5.2.19716_UC. I still get the comm manager popping up, but it's not nearly as much as what you're seeing now. And if you can believe it, the latest one is even FASTER!!!
And it is UC compliant.
UC = "User Customization":
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366337
New rom here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?5wdmtmyylvg
Actually dude thats the one i'm using. I forgot to put the UC at the end. :-/
So... i guess we are stuck at the moment.
EDIT: I changed my sig to reflect the correct Rom ..... anyone else having this issue? Anyone know of a fix?

I just found something out. A friend of mine and I have identical everything installed on our tilts...
Here are our rom versions, radio versions, and DIFFERENT protocol versions... we installed from the EXACT same files. WTF?
Check this out... we ended up somehow with different protocol versions... does that make a difference?
I have the issue with the comm manager opening up, he doesnt.
My info:
Rom: Touch v6.1 WWE
Rom date: 02/19/08
Radio version: 1.58.25.14
Protocol version: 25.69.30.05h <---notice the H
My friends info:
Rom: Touch v6.1 WWE
Rom date: 02/19/08
Radio version: 1.58.25.14
Protocol version: 25.69.30.05w <---notice the W
Maybe this is some insight... but i have no idea how this happened if we both used the same rom, same radio, same everything. Hell, we even used the same cab files when we installed our other apps, and we never installed a different comm manager.
On a side note... I also installed ALL of these same files on my girlfriends Tilt, and she has the same issue that I am having with the comm manager.
WTF. LoL
I went through the registry and at first glance everything appears ok. I suppose i'll do a little more digging later on...
Pictures of both of our info.... my picture is missing the one missing the beam button and with the "H" at the end of the protocol... his has the "W".
I had him try to do the comm manager glitch about a dozen times but no go.. so his isnt broke. Lucky bastard.
because i got the same problem with W and H i am curious if you find out how to switch the versions.
What i found out is:
W means GSM (900/1800/1900) and UMTS (2100 anly)
H means GSM (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) and UMTS (850/1900/2100Mhz)
Same here.
I have the same problems with my comm manager randomly opening when I have a program open and switch to landscape mode.
But I'm not running anything from Dutty.
Rom version: 1.56.405.5
Radio: 1.27.12.11
Protocol 22.45.88.07W
I have nothing to add other than to say the Comm Manager opens everytime I slide too.

ITJE's TouchIT 4.4 - CommManager starts when sliding the Keyboard

Hey guys,
i have a problem with my Herald, ITJE's TouchIT 4.4 installed.
Even when i'm sliding out my keyboard the CommManager appears on the screen. When i'm sliding the keyboard in, the same problem.
Please help me.
That was a bug in the old comm managers ... that has been fixed in the newer ones.
yupp, just get a cab
where can i get this cab?
i would also like to know which comm managers fix this issue.
this works on opentouch 3.0 also. i installed the 10 button comm manager, and no longer does it randomly pop up. i wish i would've know of this fix sooner. no need to try a different rom now.

Registry edit to disable 3G

I just purchased my Tilt and have Hard SPL installed but haven't settled on a ROM as of yet. I have been using Schaps ROMs for a while on the Hermes. My question is would someone be kind enough to direct me to the registry edit for giving the band option in the phone settings so I can disable 3G when not in use to save battery life.
Also I am looking for a registry editor for the Kaiser, input is apreciated. I have one I used on the Hermes but it doesn't seem to want to play with the Kaiser.
And I did search the wiki first when it came back up that is
ROM version is 1.62.502.0
Radio 1.27.14.09
Ok. You should do a SEARCH for COMM MANAGERS... search for Dutty 10 Button COMM manager, or SCHAP's COMM MANAGER. It will give you option to disable 3g and enable. It's as easy as just tapping on it. Same process as turning on WIFI. You need to search threads before people start breathing down your anus. READ and SEARCH
This app works perfectly. Its called BandSwitch. Just installed on my tilt the other day.
http://www.commmgrpro.com/jsp/main_frame.jsf;jsessionid=915C64AC4677473FA5F457913AEAC501
Click auto if you want to let it choose.
GSM for only Edge mode.
UMTS for 3G/HSDPA.
It also has auto disconnect.
Click hide page once you are done.
i tend to stick with a six button comm manager. I use advancedconfig to place the phone,wifi,bluetooth,3g,data connection, and airplane mode.
download advancedconfig HERE
Once it is installed go to start>programs>system tools>advancedconfig>menu>comm manager settings

TY for your reply. I was prepared for the flaming I have been reading and searching but was not finding what I was looking for. I was not aware that I was able to dl a com manager cab by its self. I have never been unhappy with the comm managers in the roms that i have used previously for the Hermes. ( V3pg and schaps )

That was exactly for what I am looking for. I am leaving in 2 days for a conference in Florida and this serves my immediate needs perfectly. I will try a few roms when I get back and see what is happening for the Kaiser.
It seems that I have to find ATT TILT Specific ROMs to avoid keyboard issues and go for a WM 6.1 if I want the newer radios. I have DL'd Schap's 4.30 and 4.31 but am not sure which device they were intended for, Tilt or TyTN, so more reading.
Thanx again for the fast advice.

well if the rom isn't for the tilt there is a cab available to fix your keyboard settings. However, some of the newest versions of roms tend to mess up the keyboard a bit if you type too fast. Anyhow, here is the cab for the tilt settings.

Opera won't restart after being closed

Hi,
I've tried a couple of the Opera cabs available on d0ugie's BlownFuze site:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446306
and I've found that they work fine the first time they are launched, but once they've been closed (I used the GScroll function mapped to a double tap to close the app), I couldn't re-open it.
I don't know whether it's specifically down to the way I'm closing it - I've restored my Touch Pro now, so can't re-test easily, but the stock version (v9.5 build 1522) supplied with my v1.90.00.00 HTC ROM has no such problem.
Anybody else seen this behaviour, and have any suggestions?
Cheers,
Steve.
I think I had such an issue. This was basically that Opera didn't close. If you have a good Task Manager you'll notice that one of the processes related to Opera still hangs around. If you kill it you'll be able to open new Opera explorer.
I had such issues with custom roms and new Opera builds. I now have a factory rom and it seems to be working fine.
ok - thanks.
It was probably how I was closing it, using GScroll that was the issue. If I venture down that path again, and the problem still exists, I'll probably write a program to shut Opera down completely.
Cheers,
Steve.

Task Manager function missing from home screen?

Hi,
I've just updated by ROM from the stock 6.1 to the stock 6.5
In the top corner I used to have a button I could press which would show me any apps that were open at the time. It was a quick way to close running programs down.
It looked something like this

Does anyone know if I can get it back?
Many thanks

WM 6.5 replaced the task manager with the drop down menu.
Solutions are to use the task manager that is attached to the notifications, or install quick menu with its built in task manager.
Thanks, im gonna do a search for quick menu now.
I've also noticed that the screen where you can Terminate Data Connections/Set Vibrate etc (I used to get this when I held down the Call End button) has now gone.
The device simply locks itself.
I dont know whether its the Facebook intergration or the Sense UI but the device runs VERY slow. Im gonna try the T-Mobile 6.5 rom if thats no better im gonna hopefully go back to the 6.1 version I was using.

You can reassign your end call button with Topaz Keyboard Controller.
Are you on the Stock T-Mobile ROM? That may be why its slow.
Sense usually gets faster after first install.
