Bluetooth Contact Sync - Out of Order - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I have an Audi A3 with Bluetooth Sync built in.
My contacts sync fine and all is good with the world, however it seems there are about 10-15 contacts in Alpha order which show first, then after Z, it starts again at the top in a "2nd" alpha list.
I have no categories setup.
Has anyone ever seen this before?

Hi. I have the same situation in my A6. Haven't really bothered to look into it. Also, I DO use categories. Perhaps its the fields populated with the particular contacts' details being different to the others?
I also have the problem whereby, without withholding my number, it comes up as "withheld number" when I call another mobile from the car kit but not if I just use the handset.

Audi Q7 MMI seeing some contacts over BT and not seeing others
Hi,
I just purchased Audi Q7 with MMI and BT, paired my Kaiser without problem, I can upload contacts from my phone - but I can see some contacts and not others (all are in the phone memory), and I haven't been able to figure out any difference between those I can see and those I can't.
Any ideas?

Problem solved
Hi,
i solved the problem by installing Jetware Handsfree Extension. It works now, just when importing contacts I get surname and name in the "name" field and every phone number (regardless if it is stationary, mobile etc.) gets put in stationary (office) field.
Cannot figure this out.

Problems with BBC on the Tilt

Hi everybody,
I'm really struggling with the BBC for the Tilt. I would MUCH rather use ActiveSync, but it's against company policy so I'm SOL on that. I'm forced to either buy a Blackberry and give up my Tilt or install BBC. I chose the later.
I've been having problems with it ever since and I've had trouble finding resources to help out (mainly because most people don't use BBC on Tilt).
Here are the problems:
1. BBC often will randomly say "suspended by user" (even though I haven't), which prevents me from getting new messages, and unless I'm always looking to see if the service is running, I'll never know if I'm not getting email or if it suspended itself
2. BBC will just as often randomly say, "blocked - radio in use".
3. I can't get any integration going with the calendar at all. And when I receive calendar/meeting requests, it comes to the Tilt as email messages, not as meeting requests, so I can't accept them and add it to my calendar
Now, the limited amount of information I was able to find suggests that problem #2 may have something to do with interference with ActiveSync. I've tried the technique where I add a fake server source then make the schedule manual, but ActiveSync still won't go away permanently. I use it to access my Tilt files through Windows, so I can't uninstall it altogether. Also, when I tried to uninstall it before, it deleted all of my non-SIM contacts from the Tilt along with it, because all of my contacts were imported from Outlook.
Anybody have any ideas or solutions?
I think these are common issues, especially if you are using the Tilt on AT&T.
1) I'll go days without losing connection to blackberry services then it seems like it will lose it every night for 2 or 3 days. It may be related to activesync or it may be related to network issues. I always check the blackberry icon. If there's a "!" there, I know I need to reconnect.
2) At least with AT&T, you can only have one active data connection. Either it's the blackberry service or it's something else. The something else is active and keeping the blackberry service from connecting.
3) Check your pim options screen and make sure the calendar box is checked. If I remember correctly, when I first installed it was not checked by default. Contacts, tasks and notes are also configured in this screen.
You may have a point about activesync. I always kill it when I can but it auto starts. If I understand correctly, it is checking or setting the network time?

Yeah, that's what I usually have to do, but I hate that I have to do it - it defeats the purpose of push email if you have to always check to see if it's still pushing, lol.
People have recommended uninstalling ActiveSync when using BBC, but I can't possibly see how that's practical because I use ActiveSync to maintain my contacts and to add music and files to my Tilt. Is there some other way of doing this without using ActiveSync?

That's what I've read. But there have been times when I've done a Stop All on all services, and I still got a radio in use message. Strangely, there have been times when both ActiveSync and IE were running and I was able to get BBC running no problem. The inconsistency is maddening because it becomes impossible to isolate and cause and solve it.

Whatever is being maintained by ActiveSync (contacts) is greyed out on my Tilt, but everything else (calendar, notes and tasks) is checked, so I should be OK. But calendard items are still arriving in my inbox as regular email.

Interesting. I thought I was doing something wrong since people swear by that technique as a way to get ActiveSync to go away permanently. But it always comes back for me.
It says "radio in use" when Media.Net is active possibly through a IE or weather type program.
Some of the NEWER ROMS allow dual connections for BBConnect & Media.net. I saw a thread yesterday that showed the precise registry entry to make to allow this without burning a new ROM.
What thread was this? And when you say "newer ROMS" are you referring to official ROMs like the one on the HTC website or the XDA ROMs?
Demigawd,
Make sure the wireless calendar service (cical) is running properly. What version of bbc are you running? I'm running 4.0.0.97. It's behavior is a bit different than previous versions. It seems to block other data connections instead of bb getting blocked.
The only other suggestion I have is to remove and reinstall bbc. I would also have bes sync everything including contacts until you are sure calendaring is running correctly. If it's still not working correctly, maybe check your bes for a non-standard it policy.
I think the registry entry for multiple data apns is volatile and gets overwritten after every soft reset. A custom rom is probably the only way around that.

Contacts and Call Logs

Anyone getting the Contacts and Call logs to sync between the two devices. Every time i try i get "Unable to refresh this application. Bluetooth has been disconnected". I then get the option to connect or press "ok". I press either and nothing happens.
Another thing, On the Note3, in the bluetooth settings under paired devices. If i view the properties of the Gear, the "profiles" only list Call audio. Is this correct?
Weird...as i was typing this, i got my first Calendar notification. LOL (I though nothing was working)
I'm getting that too after upgrade the Gear Mgr.
I need to do RESET GEAR, and then pair again with Note 3 only can get back logs & contacts.
It's very messy coz need to setup everything and reload all apps again.

Update 4.4.2 broke my Bluetooth connection for my Car

Ever since I updated to the latest update which is 4.4.2 as of now, my built in Bluetooth for my car keeps disconnecting and connecting to my phone.
I've tried various resets and reconfiguring the profiles and connecting the Bluetooth and still nothing. It always disconnects and connects nonstop every minute.
Before this it wouldn't do that. It would connect without a problem and stay connected with no issues.
Anyone know what the deal is? I've asked HTC but like always their customer service doesn't know crap about anything.

Also it's a 2013 Mercedes. I doubt the system is outdated.

Just submit a technical support email via the HTC website. I've already sent one for an NFC issue not being able to send webpages and URLs to other devices. The more issues you report, the faster they can get to resolving them.

Are you using completely stock? I know Bluetooth is one of those things that the custom ROMs have a bit more issues with, and I recall seeing that some of the kernels required updates for Bluetooth functionality.
Ive tried everything but rooting and going custom again. Don't think that will solve it. It doesn't stay connected and no calls can be made or received. I've seen it was an issue with nexus phones with the same update.

You've stated that you tried everything, but can you see if you can connect only as an audio device and not Handsfree or Messaging? While not ideal, it helps rule out some potential points of failure.
It's always connected as hands-free.

You're not alone. Since upgrading to 4.4.2 on a bone stock HTC One, I have had the same disconnect issues or better described, it constantly pairs and unpairs, and my contacts will now longer load, I have a 2012 BMW 328i with iDrive. I tried the latest firmware update for my iDrive, but the problems persist. A Google search shows scores of Nexus users who have upgraded to Kit Kat and have lost their bluetooth because of the exact same issues. However, I'm not seeing very many HTC One owners running 4.4.2 with Bluetooth connectivity issues under 4.4.2. I've counted only 5 thus far - you, me, and 3 others.
My wife's Galaxy Note 3 connects to my car with no issues, I've been looking , but have yet to found a solution.
I briefly had a problem connecting to my car stereo after 4.4.2, but the problem was that it would no longer auto connect. I found out that in 4.4 now shutting of Bluetooth on my phone when not in use prevents it from auto connecting to the stereo when I turn it back on, so I just leave it on all the time and it works well.
All stock btw
For whatever it's worth...

I understand that Handsfree is the goal. If you disable Handsfree on your phone, and attempt to connect as only an audio device, is it successful?
Just trying to help debug things. The only Mercedes that I can use as a reference is an older model. I have successfully used my 4.4.2 phone with several vehicles, so I'd like to get a handle on where the problem is to help offer a solution.
I may have fixed my problems - I've had bluetooth working in my car (2012 BMW I-Drive Nav) for the past 2 days, My HTC One with 4.4.2 OTA pairs as soon as I start my car, my contact list loads up within 3 minutes, my inbound and outbound call history appears, and my emails are copied to my car for voice translation.
i think the problem was duplicate google contacts. For some reason, I had 2-3 duplicates of all my goggle contacts on my cellphone, all probably caused by failed sync sessions. I looked at my linked contacts setting under the contact list menu and manually deleted 344 duplicate google entries from my cell phone. I took the phone back to my car, started it up, and to my surprise, the contact list loaded up quickly.
Previously, my bluetooth would pair with my car, but would unpair after 5 minutes while trying to download my contacts. It would disconnect after 1 minutes while in a call but also while trying to download my contacts. Now that it's able to download my smaller contact list successfully, it stays paired and I have not had any disconnects while in conversation.
Hopefully, it stays fixed. If it doesn't, then my next step is to delete my Facebook and Linked In contacts which I really don't need. Give this a try. Perhaps it will work for you as it did for me.

Million thanks! It finally works . I never thought the contacts would be the issue, I cleaned up my contacts and removed Facebook sync and after a few hours it's been connected without any issues. Thanks!

I'm glad it worked out for you. I'm on my 3rd day with a reduced contact list and so far, no new issues. Now all I need to do is find an app that does a better job of managing my contact list. HTC Sense makes it very easy to add and accumulate in my contact list, but cleaning it it out and keeping it clean is a painstaking process.
Glad that fixed it!
crap! this solution also worked on my galaxy note 2. :good:

Can't sync contacts with car or home phone.

The devices pair ok but then the phone acts like nothing is happening when I try to sync contacts from the car or home phone or BlueAnt headset. They all see the Nexus 6 and start to sync but they end with 0 contacts and the Nexus never shows a popup about it being ok to sync or anything I’ve seen with my other Android phones.
Is there a new setting to allow other Bluetooth devices to start a contact sync?

I've been trying to transfer files from my Nexus to my laptop unsuccessfully............. Everything says paired and ready, but always fails. Let us know what you figure out!
I think the biggest issue is that the Nexus 6 gives you no feedback that anything is happening. I guess they figure it’s cool and you should know you’re trying to sync stuff but that's silly and it should have something on the phone to let you know something is syncing and any info the phone can supply about what it’s doing or why it failed. Anyway…
Nothing worked until I set the house phone into manual sync mode and then went into contacts and used the send function with Bluetooth while a single contact was open. I messed with that for a bit but that is no way to sync all the contacts that I needed to. At least knew the two were talking, no thanks to Google.
Randomly out of nowhere and after turning Bluetooth on and off and deleting the phonebook on the house phone and so on it synced the first 7 contacts and then it would stop. It stopped on the 7th one every time. This was also after I had read that having the Bluetooth settings open on the Nexus 6 puts into a mode that lets other Bluetooth devices see it. I know it’s just for pairing but I was doing that at the time it first sort of worked. I had changed nothing but now I was getting the first 7 every time when I had been getting zero each time. ???
I don’t know why it stopped on the 7th contact every time but had read that others had seen this and reset their phone and reloaded their contacts and everything thinking the contacts list on the phone was corrupted and maybe it is in some way but I went a different way.
Some others had talked about having an Exchange account and Gmail account on the phone and how to sync the contacts that you want. Again, this would be so much better if it asked you what you wanted to sync. So, you go into contacts and top right there is the 3 dots to settings thing and then you can select the “Contacts to display”. Now this like many other things is counter intuitive and it gives you no heads up about it. I had seen this setting before and had it set to display only my Gmail accounts contacts. For whatever reason, none of my Bluetooth devices liked this. I had set the custom option and even if you select one of other accounts it still has the custom groups selected inside the custom option. I found this after changing from custom back to the Gmail account having it still sync the custom groups.
So went online into my Gmail contacts and created a sync group for the car and one for the house with just the contacts that I felt I’d ever call from the car or house. Then selected only that custom group in the Nexus 6 contacts “Contacts to display” custom setting and it synced all of them. Not tried the car yet though.
Good luck.

Android auto won't read my text messages to me

Hey, so I'm fairly new to android auto, having been in my 2016 civic for only a couple weeks. Everything is working great apart from the text message issue. Basically when I receive a text, it shows up on the home screen but when I click it, aa won't read it to me. The screen goes dark and the microphone icon goes blue as if it's trying to read it, but nothing happens and it returns to the home screen. Interestingly, if I press the microphone and use a voice command like 'read my last text message' aa says: "actually, I can't read your messages yet". Any help would be massively appreciated, it's really the only issue I've had so far with the vehicle or Android auto. Thanks.
Sorry, forgot to mention the phone is a nexus 5 with 6.0.1. The usb cord is the original that came with the phone, plugged into the usb port in the car designated for smartphone connection. Also I'm in Canada, if that matters.
Have you checked the permissions on the android app on your phone? Sounds like it doesn't have permissions to view your SMS?
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA-Developers mobile app
Yah I went to settings/apps/app permissions/sms and enabled all the apps in there. I also went to android auto, messenger, hangouts, Google play services, Google app, and contacts individually to make sure sms permissions were granted. I'm able to send a text from android auto, but it won't read out texts that I receive.
I'm having the same issue with my Galaxy S7 Edge running Android Auto on my Pioneer AVH-4100NEX. I went on vacation and my car sat for a while and now when I'm in Android Auto mode I can't receive and send text messages. I ask Google for the weather or to do a calculation and I get nothing. However, if I ask Google to dial someone whether in my contacts for not, it dials the number. Does this make any sense? There doesn't appear to be any official Android Auto support. I contact Pioneer and they told me my contacts weren't syncing with Android Auto which was strange enough when they said it, but given the fact that I don't get a reply when I ask GoogleNow for the weather means my contacts shouldn't have anything to do with it. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt
Same here: SEAT Ibiza with Full Link, Nexus 6 with 6.0.1 with SMS and WhatsApp. Could that be caused by some setting for language, text-to-speech? Everything else works fine, also sending messages.
PS: The system language ist German...
Similar.. it'll occassionaly read one message. But only one. Not always the first one per time I connect the phone to the car. Hyundai elantra 2017, vzw gs5.

Made an account just so I could maybe help a few people. I'm using a Galaxy S6 with an AVH-4100NEX unit, and I was getting the same issue. Could send messages fine. Tap to read message - agonizing silence. Managed to solve it by factory resetting my device with Samsung's Smart Switch software. Backup. Reset to factory setting. Restore. Success. All the best!
**SOLVED** this problem has been driving me crazy, but I found the problem. Go to your Google Now settings, click "Voice" and turn OFF Bluetooth Headset.
Its to bad we can't have that on and use Android Auto. You have to choose either the built-in system in the car with Bluetooth or use Android Auto.
Anyways, I hope this solves your problems.
I was hoping Build A Wall's post was the fix but it didn't change anything at least for me. My GoogleNow works fine if I'm just using the phone in my hand. But ever since the end of June, when connected to my car, I can't text or ask for the weather but GoogleNow understand if I ask it to call someone or ask for directions. And even when it does work like making a call, it doesn't reply by saying "Calling Steve" like it used to. It's really weird. I'm wondering if Android Auto came out with an update and it screwed up things.
I don't think there has been another update, I just think it is primitive software that still doesn't quite work as it should. I have had similar problems that I have posted on here in that I could no longer send text messages but could still navigate etc. My situation now is that I have changed nothing on my Nexus or my car unit yet now it is working perfectly again! Hopefully, that is encouraging for you. I hope they will stabilise the software with some updates.

@mpisani sorry that didn't work. It sounds like your problem is a little different than mine. I was having the same issues as the fiest post in this thread. It just wouldn't read my text to me, but everything else worked great.
I hope you get it figured out.
I turned off Bluetooth entirley before starting the car, it didn't help.
Having the same issue. Next text will come in, screen will show that there is a new text and from whom, but when you touch the card the microphone in the right corner turns blue while rest of screen changes tone a bit to show its in background but there is no audio of text message being read. ask google to read new texts and google says it cannot do that at this time. I'm wondering if it can tell thru gps if you are in a state that has banned all texting while driving and they are trying to cover their ass.

Thank you so much - it worked!!! My Voice commands did not work at all, no matter what I tried (which was a lot) - it just turned on, listened, turned off, repeated. This fixed it. Now I can again give voice commands, and it will read messages to me as well!

I've been having the same issues with my new 2017 Elantra. It's sporadic in reading it, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. Interestingly, when reading messages it uses the other TTS service and not the one from Google Now.
Going to try the BT setting and see how it works. Also was wondering if the issue was from the SMS app.

I don't believe it is the sms app purely because the fault is the same for me also with google hangouts which is of course a different app.
I'm really bored with it now sometimes working sometimes not no matter what solutions we come up with on here and try out.
Does Apple car play have all these issues with working just when it feels like it? Maybe we should all get iPhones so we can have software that just works as it should.
What about mirror link? Does anyone have experience with that? Or is it just music apps rather than communication like texting etc?

Since this new update, my LG v10 Android Auto experience is horrible - essentially voice commands hardly every work - I'm not getting full prompts all the time (sometimes I get audio beeps before/after, sometimes just before, sometimes just after, sometimes never!). I've found I can guess at what I should be saying when it's listening for voice input to send a text, but I get zero feedback from the system. And my received texts will not read back. Very Very frustrating. As I work for a Honda dealer, our engineers have informed me it's all on Android. I think I'll fire up my iPhone today and go back to CarPlay for a while and hope the next release fixes my issues - it's just not usable in its current form.
The Bluetooth setting worked for me. Really odd fix that I would have never guessed to try. Thanks for the tip

So far, like others, that odd setting fixed it. Google Now update must have introduced it.
