Appear as desktop - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Is it true ( as mentioned in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=353739&highlight=user+agent+PPC&page=2 ) that it is no longer possible to make PIE on WM6 appear as IE on Windows NT? The registry tweaks listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-323389.html do not match my device (standard AT&T Tilt) as there is no registry entry that has "240x320". My OEM settings are already Mozilla/4.0 and MSIE 6.0.

You can use a IE5 user agent. The problem comes when somesites querry your device using code such as GetDevInfo which will report from areas other than the PIE user agent settings. So it can vary from site to site.

I emailed Nika these last night, and they work for 95% of the sites out there that I have been browsing. Use KaiserTweak & add these entries to the User Agent section in the kaisertweak.xml and run the program. You can then pick your choice between IE 6 & IE 5.5 impersonation for sites. Don't forget to do a soft reset for them to take effect properly.
Code:
<value value="Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1)">IE 6.0</value>
<value value="Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows NT 5.0; )">IE 5.5</value>

Also, the user agent settings above will only work for PIE. For Opera you need to enter "Opera:Config" into the address field & it will pull up the advanced configuration page where you can make similar changes.

That is true, & I forgot to mention that point. I've been using PIEPlus for so long, I rarely consider the alternatives. Of course I still had to use KaiserTweak to make the user agent switch work again, even with PIEPlus previously supporting that feature (it still works with WM5).

So what you are saying is just use some registry tweaks right? I don't use KT!
Can you verify if MLB.com with your adjustments redirects to the WAP site?
Thanks.

IE still goes to mobile sites after tweak?

I already changed the necessary registries, but IE still display the mobile version.
I have PIEplus installed, but it doesn't matter if I use PIEplus' settings, or change it manually...
I used the following taken from another post:
Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent \
Change the default value from "Mozilla/2.0" to "Mozilla/4.0".
Change the "Version" value from "MSIE 3.02" to "MSIE 6.0".
Change the "Platform" value from "Windows CE" to "Windows NT 5.1".
Might you be going through a proxy?
Is it possible that you are going through a carrier's http proxy?
alc630, this has been discussed several times in this forum. You may want to search. The problem is the browser.dll file on the Kaiser gives the agent settings to the website (as a mobile device) regardless of where you tweak it otherwise. The solution is either a hacked browser.dll file (found in here, look around) or use Opera Mobile.

Where can I find the user agent registry key of Opera?

In IE, i can found this key at HKLM\security\IE\agentbase .. .. ... which I can set the agent of of the browser to P3650 Mozilla Firefox 4.0 (pretend as a Touch Cruise).
But how can I do it for the Opera Browser?
Thanks
It's in the file opera.ini located in Windows/Opera9
thanks, i found it.
But can't do what I want, server still able to identify my handset is Diamond which i don't want.
Does anyone of you have some suggestions?
Check in \application data\Opera9, there is an opera.ini too
Seb = = = o>°o
@Bandit13
\application data\Opera9 does not exist.
Is there anything in about:config or is that where the ini file already points to?
I managed to get my banking working by changing it in there and they pick up handset and browser type.
Don't know I'm just adding to the mix here!
yeah, go in opera:config, at the end in the section named "User Prefs" you can set a custom user-agent, or if you want to spoof it with a pc one, you can directly go in the section named User-Agent and you can choose which one you want to "spoof" (internet explorer, firefox...)
@ericsson68 and idsk
where can I found the files you mentioned?
and how should edit so that i can spoof it as firefox?
The one that i tried to edit opera.ini was "HTC_P3650 Mozilla/4.0 (Windows NT, 5.1; U; en)" ... but doesn't work though

How to Make IE Default browser

Hi there
I need to make IE as a default browser in my HTC diamond. I have installed a medical software, that uses IE to display the data. At a moment, it runs Opera and unable to display the data correctly.
Please help. thanks
Yeah I have the same issue here. Need to get the IE as default browser. We developed a webbased tool at my work that just works with the Pocketpc IE browser. The Opera browser does not allow the files to be saved offline as we want.
Found several Registry changes online but non of them worked for me.
Maybe it works for you but if there is any other solution it would be more than welcome for me
Registry Path: HKCR\XXXX\DefaultIcon
Value: (Default)=browsres.dll,-6703
Registry Path: HKCR\XXXX\Shell\Open\Command
Value: (Default)=iexplore.exe %1
Remarks: "XXXX" can be "file" or "htmlfile".
Anyway, the first tweak is optional because it is only responsible for the file icon. The second tweak is the one that decides which application should open such file type.
Please check...
Registry Path: HKCR\YYYY
Value: (Default)=_htmlfile_Opera
Remarks: Where "YYYY" is any file extension, e.g. ".html", ".htm", etc. Change data value from "_htmlfile_Opera" to "htmlfile" in order to associate with the tweaks done earlier.

Try this:
HKLM
Software
Microsoft
Shell
Rai
DEFBROWSER
Change 0 value to Internet Explorer
Change 1 value to "\windows\iexplore.exe"
I tried this on an older device and it worked. Not tried it on the Diamond though so please let me know if it does the trick!
All above methods are failed.
I have tried through a different way.
The default file association of html / htm files is towards operaL.exe file. What I did, I changed it to \Windows\Iexplore.exe file:%1 using Advanced Configuration or Registry. This resulted in a strange behavior of Windows Mobile 6.1 which I termed as a "BUG". Although I havent touched the icon part yet, when I click on any htm / html file, it opens pocket IE instead of Opera by default. But to my surprise, IE fails to recognize that the file is html. It doesnt display anything. And, when I changed the associations back to OperaL.exe, all files are displayed as normal.
I wanted to know is this strange behavior of windows mobile Pocket IE a bug or something else? Please guide....
I have tested the same on Windows mobile 2003 (old version). Clicking on any html / htm results in opening of IE normally and perfectly.
Please comment?
IE will become the default browser if you will remove flag at "Set Opera as default browser" (find it in Opera's menu-tools-settings-Misc.) and, then, SOFT RESET. (Tested in Opera 8.6.5)
This will set IE as the default browser: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419066

that option is not in the htc version of opera 9.5, you can only choose it to be default on a public bata version, instead of the htc one.

Opera on AT&T Fuze

Hi All,
I was told by an AT&T guy that you could change the opera config file to make opera on the Fuze act a fully functional browser. The problem I am having is the opera will take to me to the mobile version of websites and I don't want that. I have tried changing the user agent to 2 and 3, but that didn't correct the problem. Does anyone know what has to be changed to make this work?
thanks
billf.
A couple of other things to do in the opera:config page. First, you want to change the "Custom User-Agent" in "user prefs" to "Mozilla/4.0(compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 6.0;en)" (although I've also heard that just deleting that string works, too, but I haven't tried it).
The other thing is to delete the HTTP and HTTPS server names in the "Proxy" section.
These changes will get you to the normal version of most sites (although there are some sites that still redirect to wap/mobile versions -- I don't use any of these on a regular basis, but nba.com is one such).
You can upgrade to build 2745
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442252&highlight=opera+2745&page=15
I followed all of the tips and some of the sites still wouldn't go, no matter what changes I made. I followed owziee's directions in the link above exactly and upgraded to the 2745 build that herg posted in that same thread. Works perfectly and I can now go to desktop sites. You do have to make the additional changes, can't just run the cab or it doesn't fit vga and zoom properly, but with my low to intermediate skills it wasn't a problem to do.
I can't stand this Opera Mobile. Web pages are constantly changing size on my, and I can't zoom in or out. Is there any way to change the default browser to IE? IE works much better for me.
i didnt like opera at first but its actually way better then PIE. go to the opera settings and there is a button that says "mobile view" uncheck it and all websites are not in mobile view.
also. im sure u know. but for zooming u can run your finger in a circle clockwise or counterclockwise on the button to make it zoom in or out...or u can double tap the touch screen for it to zoom in.
all you gotta do is add to the end of your web address is "index.html". ex. espn.com/index.html
Works perfectly
You have to disable your proxy for your data connection or it will go to the mobile version as well. That is in connection settings. Uncheck the box that says this connection uses a proxy. I was getting all mobile sites until I did that.
waste of time
screw all that programming - just install skyfire and set it as your default browser through itself and if that doesnt work, install total commander and change the internet file - google it and you'll find simple instructions
Hi,
Here's the link to the Opera Mobile thread; have a look at the last 25 or so posts in the thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=486502
In a nutshell, stock ROM's receive many post-configuration changes via .PROVXML; this means that the experience of applications are changed by the carrier to suit their requirements.
There are a few adjustments that are required in order to achive the experience you're after ... the link will help you achieve your desired configuration and saves me repeating all the same info here.

Opera Mobile User Agent String to Force Mobile View?

I am using Opera Mobile on a rooted Nook Simple Touch. I want to force Mobile view (it's better for e-ink) but in the settings dialog the only options are "Tablet" and "Desktop"
What custom user agent string should I use in opera:config?
We recently added a custom opera:config setting to the desktop version called "Custom User-Agent" under "User Prefs". I notice that this is also available on Opera Mobile for Android, so you could give it a try.
For a list of known userangent strings, try a Google search for "opera mobile 12 useragent string". The first search result I get is from "myip.ms", which seems to show real ones (for both Android and Symbian).
Be careful, though. A broken useragent string could cause serious compatibility issues.
I think this should do it.
It took me too long to figure it out, so here it is.
I went to whatsmyuseragent.com and copied the user agent string.
Code:
Opera/9.80 (Android 2.1; Linux; Opera Tablet/ADR-1207201819; U; en) Presto/2.10.254 Version/12.00
Guessing it should be...
Code:
Opera/9.80 (Android 2.1; Linux; Opera Mobi/ADR-1207201819; U; en) Presto/2.10.254 Version/12.00
I pasted in the modified "Tablet" to "Mobi" string in "Custom User-Agent string" in the "User Prefs" section. Which is not to be confused with "User Agent Spoof" in the "User Agent" section. The dash is key.
And, no restart is required. engadget.com now redirects to m.engadget.com.
