Hi there
I need to make IE as a default browser in my HTC diamond. I have installed a medical software, that uses IE to display the data. At a moment, it runs Opera and unable to display the data correctly.
Please help. thanks
Yeah I have the same issue here. Need to get the IE as default browser. We developed a webbased tool at my work that just works with the Pocketpc IE browser. The Opera browser does not allow the files to be saved offline as we want.
Found several Registry changes online but non of them worked for me.
Maybe it works for you but if there is any other solution it would be more than welcome for me
Registry Path: HKCR\XXXX\DefaultIcon
Value: (Default)=browsres.dll,-6703
Registry Path: HKCR\XXXX\Shell\Open\Command
Value: (Default)=iexplore.exe %1
Remarks: "XXXX" can be "file" or "htmlfile".
Anyway, the first tweak is optional because it is only responsible for the file icon. The second tweak is the one that decides which application should open such file type.
Please check...
Registry Path: HKCR\YYYY
Value: (Default)=_htmlfile_Opera
Remarks: Where "YYYY" is any file extension, e.g. ".html", ".htm", etc. Change data value from "_htmlfile_Opera" to "htmlfile" in order to associate with the tweaks done earlier.

Try this:
HKLM
Software
Microsoft
Shell
Rai
DEFBROWSER
Change 0 value to Internet Explorer
Change 1 value to "\windows\iexplore.exe"
I tried this on an older device and it worked. Not tried it on the Diamond though so please let me know if it does the trick!
All above methods are failed.
I have tried through a different way.
The default file association of html / htm files is towards operaL.exe file. What I did, I changed it to \Windows\Iexplore.exe file:%1 using Advanced Configuration or Registry. This resulted in a strange behavior of Windows Mobile 6.1 which I termed as a "BUG". Although I havent touched the icon part yet, when I click on any htm / html file, it opens pocket IE instead of Opera by default. But to my surprise, IE fails to recognize that the file is html. It doesnt display anything. And, when I changed the associations back to OperaL.exe, all files are displayed as normal.
I wanted to know is this strange behavior of windows mobile Pocket IE a bug or something else? Please guide....
I have tested the same on Windows mobile 2003 (old version). Clicking on any html / htm results in opening of IE normally and perfectly.
Please comment?
IE will become the default browser if you will remove flag at "Set Opera as default browser" (find it in Opera's menu-tools-settings-Misc.) and, then, SOFT RESET. (Tested in Opera 8.6.5)
This will set IE as the default browser: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419066

that option is not in the htc version of opera 9.5, you can only choose it to be default on a public bata version, instead of the htc one.

How do you uninstall Opera 9.5? It doesn't appear on remove programs. Also it is now my default browser and there's no way to turn that off.
I'll see what I can find. In the meantime, should you ever want to install Opera 9.5 Beta in the future (after you flash a ROM for example), you should use Chanifire .cab here. As this allows you to uninstall it via "remove programs"
File Chanifire.cab not found, I have the same problem. There is someone that have unistall Opera Mobile 9.5 beta?
there was 2 versions
one where you cannot uninstall
one where you can
-both in the same opera 9.5 thread in develpment and hacking
but all u have to do is delete the opera files in windows folder(2) and go to appdata and delete that. There may be a few reg entries changed but nothing to worry about :]
I removed it by searching for opera after synchronization with the computer in the PDA windows - 4 files were found - these were deleted
How do you get into Setup on Opera9
Does anyone know how to get into the setup for Opera 9 - I somehow did it one time and now cannot figure out how.
I so far like this browser - way better than the mini! What is needed is for someone to tweak the chooser script and substitute mini for this one and that way we can choose between ie and O9 when a link is clicked.
There a a ton of files & registry entries you must delete manually.
I kinda like opera, (it's really 9.33 btw) but I hate how it hijacks html, htm, xml, etc...
What I did was use my latest sprite back up & did a partial restore. What you do is launch sprite, select restore, select the most recent backup file, uncheck everything *except the one check box for system settings located in the system data tab. Then restore only that infomation.
This will reset your recent registry & file association setting only. It will leave your programs & other data intact.
Then if you want to uninstall you only have to delete the 2 opera file in \Windows & the \Application Data\Opera9 files.
If you just delete these files you will have problems with file associations & that is a bit more difficult to fix unless you know the correct Executable & image files to point to.

This would only require a modification of the Mortscript file used for Opera mini.

Okay, & now go open an xml or html file
I know that the mortscript needs to be changed.
My main question is how do you get into the setup for Opera 9 - does anyone know the way?
What do you mean by "setup"???
Are you talking about the direction as to where files & registry changes are made? Then Try Below:
If you're talking about regular Settings then you touch the lower right part of the screen, Press the arrow that pops up then scroll to settings.
ALSO: you can open up any of the .ini files located in \Application Data\Opera9\xxxx (xxx= any of the folders beyond) using notepad or with Resco's internal viewer. They can also be modified using your desktop notepad.
I figured it out, thanks - the problem is that on my Tilt, in Portrait mode the icon for setup is missing due to the large size of the icons on the bottom.
I was in landscape mode when I got it to work .
For now, I am using netfront 3.5 - not as nice looking but works better overall.
I am on the waiting list to try skyfire.
I feel like I should just go on vacation for a couple months (or sleep) and when I wakeup all these problems (drivers etc, better iphone like interface) will be solved!!
Does anyone know where we can make a formal complaint to opera about its hijacking our file associations? I refuse to use this software anymore until I know this will not happen. It has made for a long night of reg edits that didn't really get me anywhere. After manually configuring pie to be my default browser I still couldn't open .htm files by clickin' on the in my file browser, had to backup to yesterdays settings and I change many things on a daily basis, Well restoring settings is finished I have allot of work to redo...

It's a leaked version. They even warned you.
This is not 9.5 beta please change the title.
Has anyone figured out how to restore file associations after installing this FUC... ****?
Thanks
How can be removed this version. I manage now to use version 8.65 but how can I regain those 8mb without hardreset?
BTW, I found that not too many people know or remember this, but you can type "Opera:Config" into the address bar to get into the advanced setup features for Opera.
How to Uninstall and remove opera
Just intall an uninstallable version, then remove it. I just did it and it worked fine.

Hi,
Where can I find uninstallable version?
BR
Asaf
So just deleting the files will do it? If I don't fix the registry will it ruin it? Which cabs are uninstallable?
In IE, i can found this key at HKLM\security\IE\agentbase .. .. ... which I can set the agent of of the browser to P3650 Mozilla Firefox 4.0 (pretend as a Touch Cruise).
But how can I do it for the Opera Browser?
Thanks
It's in the file opera.ini located in Windows/Opera9
thanks, i found it.
But can't do what I want, server still able to identify my handset is Diamond which i don't want.
Does anyone of you have some suggestions?
Check in \application data\Opera9, there is an opera.ini too
Seb = = = o>°o
@Bandit13
\application data\Opera9 does not exist.
Is there anything in about:config or is that where the ini file already points to?
I managed to get my banking working by changing it in there and they pick up handset and browser type.
Don't know I'm just adding to the mix here!
yeah, go in opera:config, at the end in the section named "User Prefs" you can set a custom user-agent, or if you want to spoof it with a pc one, you can directly go in the section named User-Agent and you can choose which one you want to "spoof" (internet explorer, firefox...)
@ericsson68 and idsk
where can I found the files you mentioned?
and how should edit so that i can spoof it as firefox?
The one that i tried to edit opera.ini was "HTC_P3650 Mozilla/4.0 (Windows NT, 5.1; U; en)" ... but doesn't work though
How to modify User Agent in Opera Browser
Hi,
I've made a little illustrated tutorial in this thread : How to modify User Agent in Opera Browser
Except the fact that it's in french, I think it's very easy to understand with the screenshots ^^
Ive installed the latest opera beta and used various aps to have the new version of the browser (not the one that came with the phone) launch from the touchflo3d menus. However, it still seems to be displaying the bookmarks from the old opera, when I edit bookmarks in the new beta they don't display on the browser touchflo tab.
For now, I copied the opera6.adr file from the beta 9.5 application data folder and overwrote the .adr file in the windows programs directory where the standard opera that came with the phone stores its files.
However, is there a registry edit or app that will allow me to edit the path to the bookmarks file that touchflo uses in its interface?

I have a similar problem. How can someone replace the link in the touchflo tab of internet in order to point to a different browser and not the standard coming with HTC TD?
THANXX
anybody? I am having the same problem
Hi!
I had this problem and eventually found that it is hard-coded in one of the LUA scripts. Sorry, don't know which one from memory. I tried decompiling this script, but I could not get it compliled again - even without changing a character.
So I'm sorry to say that you can't do it that way.
There IS however something you can try:
Open Opera and type opera:config in the title bar.
Under "Saved Settings" and "User Prefs" there's a bunch of paths you can modify.
You might try the "Opera Directory" path under "User Prefs".
Hope this helps.
From a quick look at the first-boot-scripts it seems that the opera6.adr file is placed eventually in \windows\opera9\opera6.adr.
The default bookmarks are cooked in in a file \windows\_opera6.adr and when you first turn on your phone it copies / moves the file to \windows\opera9\opera6.adr. The path also comes up while searching through several _manila files so that also seems to be the location where TouchFlo is looking for the bookmarks.
If you want that Internet tab to be integrated with _another_ browser you have a lot of Decompiling, recompiling, editing of LUA code and hex-editing work to.
Changing browser to point to Opera Mobile 9.5 beta
Someone else posted this & I copied into a Word doc, so I apologize for not giving proper credit:
All you need to do is to modify a file named “InternetPortal-en-US.xml” which is located in \Application Data\Manila. Use the freeware application Total Commander to navigate to this file and once you locate it press the pen/paper icon on the bottom of the page and that will open the file on the screen so you can edit it. Just so everyone knows, we’re not tweaking the registry here. I’m just using Total Commander because it is more powerful than File Explorer so don’t be afraid of it
Ok, once the file is open in Total Commander just add one of the following lines after the line <InternetPortal> which is towards the top:
Opera is:
<BrowserExe>\Windows\OperaL.exe</BrowserExe>
mobile\OperaL.exe</BrowserExe>
Internet Explorer is:
<BrowserExe>\Windows\iexplore.exe</BrowserExe>
SkyFire is:
<BrowserExe>\program files\skyfire\skyfire.exe</BrowserExe>
Iris is:
<BrowserExe>\program files\iris browser\irisbrowser.exe</BrowserExe>
I installed Opera Mobile 9.5 beta to my storage card, so my new path is:
<BrowserExe>\storage card\program files\opera
*Note if you can't save your changes - make sure that the file isn't set on "read only" (click the hand holding the paper icon and uncheck the "read only" box. You may have to click twice to remove the setting)
Yeah I do not see that file anywhere
I have the Sprint branded HTC Diamond and the \Application Data\Manila folder does not exist, I am using Total Commander.

I saw this as a solution to make 9.5 default if you lose 9.5 as the default browser. Are you saying if I upgraded to 9.7 beta, this process will make my 9.7 bookmarks the bookmarks in the TF3D internet tab?
Apologies for starting another thread on this browser.
I had installed a version of Opera Mobile which I liked very much however, there was no option for me to tell it that I wanted PIE to be the default browser. The reason I need PIE to be the default browser is that I have a number of programmes the use PIE that screw up with Opera.
I have had a good look around on here and it would seem that there are several versions, it got me all a bit lost as I don't want to keep installing and uninstalling.
Plus, I'm not sure which is best Mini or Mobile? Finally, how do I reset the file associations for web files eg. *.xml to be associated with PIE?
Any help would be mucho appreciated.
Anyone? Mini or Mobile?
For Full Browsing experience: Mobile
For limited bandwidth (or expensive data plan): Mini.
I don't quite care which version of Mobile, as I trust the chef' of my ROM cooked the most useful (and stable) one.
Thanks for the info. Have downloaded the latest Mobile version from Opera's website, all seems ok so far....
It is a bit un-intuitive as far as what you must do to get .XML/.HTML/Help files to open correctly again - here is the process:
I use the Total Commander File Explorer, which upon opening the context menu of a file and selecting properties, will allow you to select a program association for that file type. I'm sure it can be done in other programs as well, but the bottom line is that you want to change the program to:
iexplore.exe
And set the following as parameters:
file:%1
and (this being the part that am somewhat uncertain as to why it is necessary... but it IS) set the icon file to:
browsres.dll
with the Icon Index set to:
-6703
That should do it.

Hi,
I have a wiered problem!
I copied my opera6.adr file from my Diamond 1 over to Diamond 2 in Windows/Opera9 folder but each time I start Opera application, the file gets overwritten.
It seems that I can't manually change the file, it kinda check it md5 checksum or something and reset the file to its original? Could that be the case?
Anybody has the same problem?
Yeah, I have a similar problem, but I'm trying to copy from Opera Desktop to mobile, I've tried every which way I can think of, but each time it reverts back to the previous file and previous (not stock original, but my edited) bookmarks.
I thought it might have something to do with either Opera staying resident in memory or the files not being compatiable.
Anyone had any sucess on the TD2 ??
fixed!
Found a solution
Actually Opera is running the background somehow "always"
Use TaskManager to kill the process and then copy your opera6.adr to Windows/Opera9.
DONE!
Let me know if it works for you also.
OMG it works...
I ended the opera.exe using the CleanRam program, as opera does not show up in the standard task manager, then copied the opera6.adr file to Windows/opera and it works... ...well nearly...
I had to edit my PC version adr file to match the mobile version, they are different:

As you can see the mobile version has more = and the other info is different.
Before I altered it I was getting double folders appearing in the TD2, but after I edited the bookmarks in Word, using Find & Replace to add the extra = to all the = (then remove the extra = from the very top lines (Options))
Great I now have all my bookmarks, what a to do though.
good
Well, I didn't mean the buildt-in task manager! I mean Task Manager from FdcSoft which you can use to see all running processes etc..
But anyhow, great it works for you now
So many Task Managers !!!
Do you have an problem if you select Bookmarks from Touchflo itself rather than from inside Opera, if I click the Bookmarks softkey it locks up Touchflo (and most of the rest of the device)???
It might have something to do with the amount of bookmarks I've got!
Also, although I don't think this problem is related, the other softkey 'Menu' doesn't do anything when clicked, just highlights and thats it, very odd.
dont know
well, actually I dont use Touchflo as I like to see lots of things at once I use windows today plugins to see everything in one screen
