I was just wondering... if there is a chance for you to pick again...
and money is not a factor...
will you buy a TyTN II or a Tilt...
I bought the Tilt however it was because I didn't have the money to buy a TyTN II...
now thinking about it... I might really have spend the extra 100 to 200 for TyTN II...
not that I don't like Tilt... but I would really like to get the TyTN II because it can make video calls...
what is your opinion...? will you get TyTN II or Tilt...?
What's the exact difference between the Tilt and the TyTN II?
As for the video calls, not many people have a front-camera atm and it's also pretty expensive atm. Therefor I think the ability to make video calls isn't that important.
as far as im concerned i am really happy with the tilt. I saved money and with the amount of cabs, roms, radios, and tweaking this site has I'm never bored. And as far as I know, my tilt can do anything a tytnII, iPhone, or any other cool phone can do.

besides who else do you know with a video camera in the front of their phone? Keep what you got that little phone in teh front is not worth the money.
well i would get the TytnII cuz its the original i guess...and i rather get the original...plus i'm in BC canada..and we dont have atnt
I have never understood Video Calling on cell phones, but maybe it is my age talking.
Save the $200 and use it to go see the person and vice versa
I live in Toronto...
I got my at&t tilt over ebay...
Rogers has very cheap video thats why I really want video call...
TyTN II by far. It looks better IMO and has a great presentation in terms of packaging.

The only difference that you can see is the extra photo camera on the frontcover?
Well I for one aim very stoked about getting my Tilt. (Which should arrive this Thursday) I have looked into getting the unlocked TyTn II but I have no use for Video calling as no one I know also has this feature.
I also look forward to joining the Kaiser community....
The question is like asking If you want the Ford Explorer XL or Ford Explorer XLT. They are but the same phone only AT$T "Tweaked" it becasue they are fudge packers like that.
I currently have a Tilt. I would love to have a Tytn II only because I am a hardcore gadget Geek and The Weak Front Camera makes the Tytn II that much more "ultimate" than the Tilt.
But Overall i think its personal preference.
Tilt, by far for the $. If $ isn't an object, why not go for the front camera?!
Although, the front camera is not really worth even an extra $20 in my opinion...
Tilt!
I just picked up a refurb Tilt through cingular and re-upped for 2 years, and the price was.... 149.00 + Tax, etc.
BTW, this thing is in perfect condition, and works great so far.
Probably got a unit that was fixed after someone fried the diode while car-charging, lol.
Now for a new TyTyn II, gulp, I think I would have paid alot more.
Not worth the upgrade for me, besides I'd be afraid I would accidently engage the front camera while in a compromising position
+1, I signed a new contract and got a major discount, and they even threw a bunch of stuff in. I paid $250 out the door for a new Tilt, and retail is, well, almost twice that on Ebay which is the cheapest source.
Just so us non us folks have i say.I have a tytn II for a good few months now and i have never used the front camera. i have a good video call package but its just a pain in the bum and the video call are crap anyway. So tilt get my vote anyday (if we could buy them over here)

The colour scheme is different as well. The front keys aren't all chrome on the TyTN II and the number keys on the QWERTY aren't white.
Not a big deal to most, but I'm picky like that.

is it worth to upgrade to the kaiser or should I wait for it's successor?

I think you should ask your pocket or wallet this question...
Obviously the tilting screen, built-in GPS, larger memory, and being slightly thinner all makes me want to have it ... but its a matter of $$$$$$$$$$ now
sell your hermes now and recoup some costs then be first to buy kaiser.
I have a sim-only in the hermes and my business contract in my normal phone is due to end in october so I can get it relativly cheap (take a €80/100 dualsim 1 year contract, the its about €100-200 ).
Can the screen do a normal-slide too?
And does it fit in a hermes desktopcradle?
I always like new shiny things so I think I'll shove out the cash

I sold my Hermes (vodafone III 1605) still had the box everything.. got 300 euro for it that's about 400$.. now sitting and waiting with the money in the bank for the kaiser.
I hope to get 150/200 for it, a bit battered because I dropped it once (small crack in body and corner a bit shaved off) but works 100%.
I also sold my 8525 while I could still get the most out of it. Now, I am using a crappy samsung phone until the 8925 or the Tilt comes out! I had long been contemplating on buying a GPS and now my problem will be solved soon!

although If i can come across a cheap tytn 100euro I'll get one
I am also trying to make the same decision. I just got my Hermes (8525) two days ago off of a guy for $220, but now that I see this is about to come out I am tempted to sell it I could probably get $300 or so for it if I do it soon before the tilt comes out. It came with an extra extended 2800 mAh battery and stuff. My motivations for the upgrade would be the obvious ram upgrade but more importantly builtin gps. I really want gps but I haven't purchased a bluetooth gps unit yet. My last concern is that I am with tmobile so I would nee to unlock the phone. How long does it usually take for an unlocker to come out? What are your opinions on everything?
well...I just got rid of my Hermes TyTn...I wasn't trying to make a profit, just trying to get back as much as I put into the phone....
can't wait until the Kaiser is released...
as everyone said b/f my post,,,the Kaiser overall is a better phone...

I sold my hermes.... I listed it on craigslist and a guy called me up this mourning and offered me more than I was asking for it if I would meet him. I got $360 for it. I saved him from the tragic fate of paying too much for a Herald he was just about to drop a little more on. he didn't wanna try and unlock an AT&T phone himself he was afraid so he bought mine instead and now he has twice the ponies of a Herald and I have $360 to put towards my kaiser

Yes it slides out normal(like the Hermes) then you can "tilt" it up.
As for the 2nd question, I dont know since the specs of the Kaiser are a tad bit different than that of the hermes
ok.. does someone have a clear bottomside picture to check where the USB port is?
sold my Tytn
I sold it for $500 including a GPS receiver. Waiting to get either a Tilt or an HTC Kaiser depending on the price... it seems the Tilt(AT&T) is going to be around 600 to renew contract do not know how much the Kaiser. It really makes a difference on the two units but more on the money.

Dam I`m defenatly getting Kaiser as soon as it hits the ATT shelfs, but seening how good you guys are selling your phones I`m thinking about selling my first !!! Just dont know what I will do with out it You guys think the prices will drop really bad for the 8525 Hermes Tytn as soon as the kaiser released ?
GO KAISER!!!
I work for AT&T in the U.S. and I met with the HTC reps last week. I played with this thing for an hour and a half. It was amazing!! The best part, they are sending me 2 free ones. One to hack and one to show my customers. I can't freakin wait!!!!
The tilt and the Kaiser are the same thing. We are just calling it the Tilt.
I didn go for it... last month a friend bought one but it didn't convince me shelling out that extra cash for just GPS, slightly sleeker exterior and that bit of extra memory.
Waiting for the TYTN III
Should I return the TILT???
I was depending on this being an mp3 player/video player/phone/fun/office device. ALL IN ONE being key!!
This device has dissapointed me on the multimedia end for obvious reasons as I can't even drag and drop SD DIVX Shows!!
Is there a device that can do all this that I should get instead since I'm in my 30 days???? What would you do?
Thanks for any advice....

I am also in the same boat. I was expecting more from it when it came to playing movies and just overall performance. Don't know if I should return it to newegg and void the att contract. Or if it would be better to keep the contract, sell the phone on ebay, and use that money to buy a different phone.
return them
I would return them, and buy Iphones.
Iphones have by far the best web browsing available short of having a pc, which is what I was hoping for out of my tilt. Now that i know my web browsing issues are because htc didnt provide drivers, i feel like im missing a huge part of what this phone should have been and it is very disappointing.
Take It Back
return it...
RETURN IT
why? well the more HTC get returned etc the quicker they will pull their finger out and correct things and not allow such stupid mistakes
Just make damn sure that when you return it; you tell them WHY.
Hmm... The new 8gb Nokia N95 has just come out... Looks rather nice too...
All of you whom own a Tilt / Tytn II, T-mobile or other clone distributed by carriers should return this piece of ****ty hardware when not satisfied with the video performance.
Indeed, AT&T certainly would not have counted on such a return (and loss ) and will raise this towards HTC as loss of business.
Just return the ****ty thing and buy something that does what it's supposed to do.
And, for your own good, never buy anything coming from HTC. They're crooks, hypocrites and arrogant bastards who think that their customers are of a low enough IQ to be mocked in their face and still want to feed HTC money (this is exactly what comes out from their official response to the driver issue).

Yup. I bought my tilt last week so I still have two weeks to decide. I would return it today if i could figure out a replacement that does everything the Tilt does but better. I would personally rather have the Tilt than an Iphone even with the problems, and that nokia isn't doing it for me.
If you don't mind losing the internal GPS and the extra ram you could downgrade to the 8525 (Hermes). Nice thing is that there price has dropped considerably since the Tilt came out. For awhile there AT&T was selling them for $99...so you could probably find another site out there somewhere that would give it to you even better than this.
I'll trade someone my 8525 for their Kaiser
ha, I can't believe what im reading here! are u guys really that bitter. I honestly feel that even when (if) htc releases the fix, MOST of us will not notice a big difference in our daily use. I compare it to a bluetooth keyboard I purchased. before I bought it, I was going crazy, thinking I needed one, etc. once I got it, I don't think I've ever used it.
don't get me wrong, I would love the drivers, but other than that I love my phone. great internet, great gps, full keyboard, etc. there is honestly no other phone id rather have.
My Warranty ends tomorrow. I think im just going to keep the damn thing. Sure the video converting sucks. but, I got the Camera to work (thanks to Navadi), and I havnt watched a movie on my mobile in awhile. At least the reception is flawless. I have better reception than most of my friends and family. with the same provider, AT&T.
In my house NO ONE gets reception. and I can have a full conversation inside my house perfectly.
My brother who owns the Iphone. He has to walk outside in order to talk on his phone.
Oh and yeah the full keyboard is much better than the Iphone at Texting.
Oh and dont get me wrong I am disappointed with HTC with the way they are handling this situation. Atleast be helpful, rather than leaving us with a "F**k you, we got your money, you got what you paid for." what they did was false advertise.
The problem is, in the U.S. The phone is still better than majority of all the other phones out there. OBviously not in Europe. but here. Yeah.
I've had both the iPhone (Returned it) and now I have the TILT...i prefer the tilt.
I know the video situation sucks but I think the phone is still good overall
I'm having a difficult time deciding if I should buy the Htc Tytn II (Kaiser) for the front camera, or just get the cheaper ATT Tilt.
Is the front camera worth it now or is it going to be benificial within the next 2 years for the USA?
If no, i'm just going to settle for the ATT Tilt.
Help please guys.
Well you have to ask yourself, how many people you know that have a 3g phone with a camera on the front of it as well?
Agree with above. How many people do you know that you could video call? Go with the Tilt - 100%. Love mine.

Do you really enjoy looking at yourself? If so, a front camera is quite suited for that.
Well i have 3000 minutes of video calls a month on my contract (Helsinki Finland, operator Saunalahti).
I also thought about getting a Tilt, but just couldnt, after thinking that i have the free video calls. Not a big suprise i have made only one video call, actually only two in last two years, to test it out.
My plan has everything covered with the video calls: 3000 min of regular calls, 3000 sms, unlimited mms and unlimited data, but i still say the video calls are pretty useless unless you need them for some specific reason.
Btw. this plan here 49,95€ a month 24 month contract. + Have to take a mandatory 3G phone, price's start from 3€ a month ... The phone can be sold straight...

Not bad, what ive been reading here... On the other hand, everything else cost here way too much...
I use the front camera for a mirror, sometimes for quick video responses too. works great!
i've only used the front camera to capture video clips or pics. It's a lot easier when you see how much of an ass you look while filming...
with new roms being cooked, and the various methods to sim unlock available, the tilt would be a more price conscious decision. the 2 year contract and the potential for a higher rate data plan might be an issue though.
imho, the tilt looks a bit tacky compared to the tytn ii, but to each his own. I bought my kaiser a bit before the tilt was released so i didn't have the option, but i would still take the tytn ii over the tilt. I figure if i'm going to spend money on something, i should like it in every way, inside and out.
Here in the UK, video calling has been available for years, and subsidised (aka free) 3G phones with front cameras are commonplace. Despite this, hardly anyone ever video calls, and apart from a brief test in the pub, I've never used the front camera on my V1615 (Vodafone branded Tytn II) in the last three months.
Video calling is one of those technological answers without a question - it's clever, but nobody really wants to use it.
i have the tytn ii just cuz i dont want the att stuff...i want the htc branded hahaha i know it sounds gay but yea also i use the front cam for like mirror n such...and i believe the keypad looks much better on the tytn than the tilt
Video calling is a great business tool. Also really good when you are a service engineer talking someone through a fix.
Same as most things, the operators thought people would love this function and pay loadsa money to use it.
Used it once for a personal call....
Just waiting for the video conferencing vid&voip packages to come out myself (WM 6.1 has it) then it will cost virtually nothing and you will be able to use it with PC/laptop users.

Haa Haa...Great for trimming nose hair also!!
OK, out of strange series of events I ended up buying a tilt and a Tytn II online that should be here soon. I also purchased a 8GB card *drools* that I'm saving for when the lucky phone gets here.
First off I want to say I've had a 8525 (hermes) for a year or so and I wanted to upgrade I am very familar with having this PDA and it's plans but what I'm not used to is flashing (even though I did it once to upgrade my phone from wm5 to wm6) I would like to know which ROM are best at the moment or even if there is one and if it's even worth it to jump into 6.1 right now.
My second question would be 0_0 which phone do I keep?? they are both new and I plan on selling the other one. The tilt isn't unlocked but I don't see how that really matters since I'll be using att anyway. Also Black is my favorite color (which this tilt is). but I do like the extra camera that the tytn has (even though I probably won't be able to use it). So which one should I keep?? Which ROM should I install once I decide which one to keep??
does anyone have an idea??
Read all about the ROM's and then decide which best suits your needs.
The phones are basically the same, especially if you install a ROM.

I'm just putting this out there, but you know.... since you have a second one, people are looking for a donation tilt/tytn to work on for video drivers
I'd keep the Tilt. The units are basically exactly the same, and you can get more in return for the TYTN II since it has the front camera that you can't use. The only thing you can use the front camera for is a mirror, so unless you are a pretty vain person, I don't think it is worth it. If money isn't an object for you, I think the TYTN II is a little cooler looking, but it doesn't really make sense to spend the extra amount for it over the Tilt.
I'm looking to purchase a cheap Hermes if you are letting that go too.
Well yeah I am planning on selling it. I was planning on trying to sell it for 280 with the 2GB card how does that sound to you??
Hi to all, I'm a quite happy owner of a orbit2 (aka Polaris).
A few days ago I was wondering in a used marcket and I found a used Kaiser at a price that it was impossible a year ago.
I need a second mobile phone and I'm wondering if kaiser is still a wotrh buy, now that there are G1 and G2.
So I ask my question to the Kaiser community....
Thanks to any suggestion
Yes Kaiser\Tilt still worth buy @ good price...

Yes, you're probably right, it's difficult that I could have an unbiased answer, but I think that kaiser owner could be disappointed of their device or are looking forward to the new tech, maybe without lack of driver
And I find it at 200 euros...is it a good price?? I think so, maybe because I buy my polaris a year ago at 400
I had the Tilt over a year ago and sold it but just bought another one on eBay days ago for around 190 US.
Worth the buy to me...

Not sure on the currency value of £ to € in UK £150 - £200 is a good price, the Kaiser is still a very good device, driver issue really not a bigee "well not to me"
Also many ROMs to choose from and the lovely Tilt Keyboard only on TP2 too.

I too am biased. Bought mine on Ebay a year ago for $275US and with all the ROMS to choose from nowadays it hard not to be happy with it.
My Nokia N95 recently died, and so I went hunting on eBay for a new phone (I wanted a Windows Mobile device this time).
I came across the Kaiser at £125 buy it now, so bought it. This was about 2 weeks ago, and I'm planning on putting it back up on eBay now
It's a nice phone, but it's not without it's problems that really annoy me.
The keyboard - I much preferred the number pad on my N95 with the T9 predictive text. The Kaiser has T9, but you still have to use the QWERTY keyboard
No 3.5mm headphone socket. I bought an adapter, and after 4 days of use it fell to pieces this morning.
Stylus - I've lost the pen once already, but found it again in the library.
Crashes - I'm running the Ultimate X V2 ROM, and so far today it's crashed 3 times on me today
No graphics drivers - means I can't play graphics accelerated games, and normal games become laggy
Games become laggy even moreso when you touch the screen whilst playing
If you receive a text and can't view it straight away, if the phone is in your pocket all the touchscreen gets pressed and opens loads of programs
I'm sure there's more but I can't think of it right now!

I picked mine up for £90 on ebay which included the case, spare battery and docking station, bargin or what.
Thomas, I changed from a N95 also to this and I wouldnt go back, try a different ROM, Im using Chinhe wm 6.5F 21501. WM 6.5 is so much better then 6.1 and the Manila 2d interface is excellent. Add a few extra apps like youtube, MyPlayer (BBC I-Player) and shed loads of other things and you will have a excellent device, drop me a pm if you like and ill let you know how i set mine out and you will love it
It all comes down to preference. Personally, I wouldn't buy another tilt for two reasons: VGA screens are MUCH nicer for web browsing, and the recessed screen is substantially less finger-friendly.
Aside from those two issues, though, it's a pretty solid device. I think the Touch Pro is a pretty solid step up, but the Tilt might be worth it depending on price.
I got rid of my Kaiser when I bought both a G1 and a Raphael: G1 is gone and I bought another Kaiser. The Kaiser is cheap (around $165 on ebay if timed right), still more powerful than most phones, super-reliable and strong. Add in the fact that you can unlock them for free and all the software available and this one is sticking with me until it dies. Honestly, the Raphael's screen is nice, but it really doesn't FEEL any faster than the Kaiser. So in the end, all you get is more ram, a sharper screen, and a G-sensor...for $150 more than a Kaiser.
£90 is a bargain!
My Kaiser was on Orange originally, and although it's now unlocked, on any ROM except the Orange (or so it seems) it sends every text twice and charges me double!
I'll have a look at the I-Player software... but I tried Manilla 2D and didn't really like it that much (I seem to have contrasting opinions to everyone else here ).
Now I've got a stable ROM running I must say it is growing on me, especially as I enjoy developing software in C#, and Windows Mobile has the .NET Compact Framework.
Well im currently running Chinhe wm 6.5 21501 v3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509576) . It is quite a lite package but so far it is very stable add to that the Manilla 2d thats pre installed and add the 'New HTC' skin it looks sooooo nice, ive showed it to all my mates including IPhone owners and they have been blown away. I can highly recommend the last FM app (Uk owners only) for live streaming music.
When using the iplayer (myplayer) u need to tweak it to use the steaming player that comes preinstalled.
Ive attached a few goodies for you all, enjoy ya phones, I was a Nokia fan for for 12 years but now im a HTC convert.
I just tried to sell my AT&T Tilt on eBay, not once but twice with a starting price of $150 and didn't get a single bid! If anyone here is interested in it, you can PM me or e-mail me at [email protected]
It has a few scuffs, and a piece of the trim by the SIM holder is broken off, but it works fine (just have to be careful when you are putting the SIM in).

Thats where you went wrong, starting at $150 way to high, if im surfing ebay for something I watch Items and bid at the last min, like what most people do. Start at 99c you will get a hell of alot more interest then $150.
i have the tmobile kaiser since more then 18 months now, quite happy with it. however the newer models from HTC seem to be better and even the latest symbian's from nokia would be worth a try.
depends more on preference / usage / pricing / etc.
you guys in uk get excellent deals with your service providers...
so check everything b4 u decide.
