Optional File Explorer???? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

Does anyone remember way back there was a rom released that had a custom file explorer. It was just an exe file and it allowed you to delete things that the standard and resco file explorer wouldn't allow you to do....I know it was included in one of the WM5 roms and the single file was posted for download. I lost my HDD on my cpu and have been trying to locate what I remember. I cannot find this file. I know that if you copied it to the windows directory it would completely replace the built in file explorer.....
Anyone know where to find this???? I have searched but can't seem to locate it....

This File Explorer.exe allowed you to delet things from the rom...I thought it was part of a Dr. Putt rom a year ago or so....

Replace wavedev.dll

Hello,
As everybody already knows there are some serous problems with Qtek9090 device type models and carkits. A nice echo is produced when somebody is calling. I have a wavedev.dll file that should resolve this issue but I can't replace it on my Qtek9090 because it's a system file. How can I force this replacement?
Thanxz for any response, I bought this complete set and i'm thinking about it to return it. Operator T-Mobile, rom1.40, radio 1.20.
Peterpanman.
rename existing wavedev.dll to wavedev.bak, copy the new file and reboot.
Just curious but is it definitely Radio 1.20 or 1.12 as 1.13 is the latest I know of....
wavdev.dll
hello mamaich,
of course i can not rename the file because it is a system file, in use, attributes can not be removed. anybody has another idea?
peter
(sorry for the type mismatch radio 1.12)
Re: wavdev.dll
1. All files in ROM can be freely overwritten even if they are loaded by applications. But they of cause cannot be renamed.
2. Files in object store that are opened cannot be overwriten. So if you cannot do that - than this file is contained in object store and was already updated, probably by some CAB from extended ROM.
3. WM2003 allowed opened files from object store to be renamed. According to your post you have 2003SE.
If you cannot rename this file - the file may be in ROM, so you can freely overwrite it with explorer.
If you cannot overwrite it - you still can rename it. In this case after renaming there would 2 copies of file. One with the new name, and the old wavedev.dll would reappear (the ROM version would be visible again).
In some rare cases some program may completely prohibit access to the file, but i've never seen that for DLLs. Unless you are using some PocketPC antivirus (a completely silly idea by the way). In this case uninstall antivir and do a soft reset.
WM2005 does not allow user to overwrite ROM files, but they can be still overwritten by OS itself, for example by creating a custom CAB file. I do this in my WM5 patches.
Not working
Hello mamaich,
Thanks for the complete answer but unfortunally none of these options work. Renaming the file does not create a new copy of the renamed file. I can't even copy the file, it says \\Windows\wavedev.dll access denied. Maby you can tell me how to create a .cab file so that this file is copied and overwritten? something with .net or something?
Thanxz,
Peter

You can use WinCe Cab Manager

noob question...

I have an AT&T Tilt. I am a long time BBerry user who never once tweaked a device.
I would like to install several things including the HTC home and at some point TouchFlo.
Let's use my challenge with the HTC home files. Regardless of whether I use the 1.0, 1.5 or 2.0 files I get the same result.
I copy the cab files to a folder. Browse to the folder using file explorer, click on the setup file and.....
it opens up in Internet Explorer, seems to hang for several minutes and then...nothing.
Am I literally this stupid?

Hi,
I copy the cab files to a folder. Browse to the folder using file explorer, click on the setup file and..... I assume you copied the cab files to your device?
it opens up in Internet Explorer, seems to hang for several minutes and then...nothing. I dont quite get what you mean by it opens up in Internet Explorer? Did you click on the cab file? It is not suppose to open up in IE. Please be more specific..
Cheers
Here's what I have
The folder for the HTC Home Screen has a file called _setup.xml and around 100 files.
I click on the _setup.xml file and it opens in IE. Nothing happens. There is no .cab file in the folder.
Mike O.
You unpacked the CAB file somehow (likely on your PC before transfering). Don't do that. Move the CAB file to your phone, not its contents. When you open a CAB file, it looks to the XML file for installation instructions. If you open the XML file, it thinks you want to read it, so it opens PIE.
So don't unpack CABs.

how to install cab file?

Hey I am new, and I am wondering how do you install cab files? I downloaded the midlet manager and i extracted it on my pc, and i see a bunch of files but none of them are cab files, they are all unidentified, can some one help me please? much appreciated
thanks in advanced
Just copy and paste the zipped cabfile in your phone anywhere through Activesync, preferably 'My documents' folder and execute it there in the phone,it'll run and install all by itself.
Cheers!
when I extract the file,I dont see any cab files, So i just put the whole folder in my phone,I try clicking on the files and they wont open,I just get a message sayin
"There is no application associated with "00CAB10A",run application first then open this file from within the application
ok, for 'Midlet' here's how you do it as per the post in Midlet Manager by risidoro:-
------- HOW TO INSTALL ------------
- Download Risidoro's Intent MIDlet Manager version 11.1.7.1023
- extract the cab (inside the archive) somewhere in your PC (e.g. Desktop)
- copy to somewhere in your PocketPC (e.g. \storage card)
- in your PocketPC, navigate with File Manager to the cab and tap on it to install
- when asked, choose to install in the Device (and NOT in Storage Card!)
- reboot when asked
or read the thread :-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286604
Cheers!

You are NOT supposed to unpack the CAB!!!
You must copy the cab (Risidoro_Intent_MIDlet_Manager_11.1.7.1023.cab) found inside the zip file from the thread that zabardast linked to your device and simple run it (one click via File Explorer or double-click with Total Commander)
as simple as that...
thank you so much
I got it installed
ok I have a htc droid eris and I can't find the file manager on my phone to get to the files on the sdcard. so I downloaded a file manager app and when I click on the .cab file it does not just install it asks what I want to do open with kind of thing. like browser and a bunch more things I have tried most of them and nothing is working. Is there something else I need to install a .cab file with this phone or wtf is my dumb butt doing wrong to not be able to install it.
Install .cab files to unlock sd card.
Hi, think ive messed up here... can someone help or confirm my balls up!
Ive been following this tutorial to flash my hd2 with an updatable Win.7 rom;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1236027
Charging ahead, installed, had a few probs along the way but worked through them... got it installed and working!
Then, moving onto step two of my plan, a dual boot of Android from sd card... :S Do you know whats coming? After re-reading the install instructions I noticed the 'Unlock SDCard' a few steps before installing the rom. :S I have now learnt that Windows mobile 7 locks the sd card to the device and is un-usable in anything else, having already messed up an 8gb and a 16gb...!
Could anyone please tell me if it is possible to 'somehow' install the .cab files to unlock the sd card...? or anyone know of a way to decrypt the sd card?
"THE SD CARD IS UN-READABLE IN MY PC AND PHONE WITH WM6.5 STOCK ROM"
If I re-install the rom from the 'back to the future' tutorial (link above), the storage is available for use on the hd2, but still cannot be seen by my PC... making it hard to install .cab file or anything else!
Both my sd cards have effectivly been high-jacked by microsoft...!
Please help me liberate my GB's...!

Is there a way to extract a cab file from an installed ROM?

In the old days, there was no problem accessing the ext ROM and copying every cab file. I understand that the situation is different with the Diamond. Is there any similar way to do that? I don't have the ROM installation file (and can't get it anywhere), but I just want a certain cab file it installs..
To whom that might be interested, it seems that those cab files are located in the \Windows directory.

how do i install setup.xml files ?

i downlaoded "mUn BackGroundMode" from this site an like all other setup.xml
files i have no idea how to install them.
can someone help me on this one.
thanks
HD
Is the installer in the form of a .cab file? I'm willing to bet that you're opening the CAB file on your PC and looking inside it, which isn't the way to go here. You're supposed to copy the entire CAB file across onto your phone then launch the CAB file from your phone to run the installer.
