Hey all,
I haven't been following the "Solution to the GPS" thread, but I did pop in a few weeks ago to see reference that made me believe that people have figured out how to enable north american 3G. Is this true?
Thanks,
Matt
My assumption is that choosing the right radio and setting nv item 148 to 17 (0x11) will give you additional radio bands. Search for walram's post in the gps thread where he listed the radios which allow setting item 148.
I would just pop inn here to say that I can select, Euro Band, US Band and Japan Band in my settings. If this works I have no idea (I live in europe).. Or maby everyone has these settings options?

My battery life is killing me.
Can anyone tell me how to switch the bands like I used to on my 8525?
I looked under settings/phone/ - no "Band" tab
I modified the registry ShowUMTSBandPage to "1" but still nothing shows up.
Please help!!!
Thanks!
Open the file manager, switch to the Windows directory, search for the file "HSDPASwitch.exe" and run it. I hope the file is available on the Tilt.
Is this what you are looking for?

Nope. We dont have that file. Can you send us the file and see if it can work on the Tilt?
It is there, but you have to turn on "Show all files". At least on the AT&T stock firmware.
Peter - thanks for the info. It wasn't quite the file I was looking for (it does exist on the AT&T Tilt units. There's a "band" tab on the phone settings that allows you to switch between GSM & CDMA. There's a band.html in Windows directory that explains this but it doesn't seem to be available.
The file is there, but doesn't seem to work. I uncheck the enable HSDPA box, and it pops up to say I need to reset, but after a soft reset, I still have 3G.
I believe the HSDPA app is for switching between UMTS & HSDPA (which is the higher data rate).
What I'm looking for is the band tab application to select between Edge & 3G (like on the 8525).
I'm not even passed 1/2 my day and I'm already on 46% (I had it charged fully at 7am).
battery life is concerning me too - so i'm trying the Fully charge/fully deplete cycle a few times to see if i can achieve better battery performance.
if not.. time to start cutting back on the services or get a desk/car charger
You can always use a different comm manager. I use one of Shapps. Here is a black version... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1575189&postcount=131

been trying to figure out the band page issue myself - the registry entries form the Hernes days don't work. i believe you can manipulate the registry keys to do this but clearly not a user freinfly option.
Can someone who understands what the 3G buttons (on the Comm Mangers that have it) does behing the scenes?

I had to unassanble the program to let commmgrpro be compatible with Kaiser
It unregister, from operator and then makes a hidden and undocumented direct call to the driver to make the magic and previously does a change in registry. But the complicated things was to discover the correct params needed by the IOCTRL function

I wish I knew that as well, I would love to have a switch for 3g or nothing cause edge is brutally slow
I turned on 3g in the command center but my phone still switches between eg and edge frequently. When I turn off 3g in the command center it turns off my data all together, is this functioning properly?

I can't seem to get the UMTS Band Page to show up on my Tilt. I did the same registry edit as with my 8525 - HKLM/Software/OEM/PhoneSetting "ShowUMTSBandPage" value set to "1". I tried several times, and verified the value was at "1" after a soft reset and even tried a hard reset, changed the registry again, and still no luck.
Any ideas?
I looked at my registry (ATT TILT) and it is "stock" just as you describe (value=1) and I don't have a UMTS Band Page anywhere from what I see. I have to go to /windows/ and tap the EXE file.
Hope that helps...????
After a quick search, I found an app that might help you. Version 2 is a "paid" program, but version 1 is free.

Not my program but a good one.. however you must use a new version for the tilt and I know the ver 1.2.3 will not work 100% correctly. It is prob worth the money if the newest ver works but there must be other ways to disable 3G just not as easy as the prog.
I hate to bring up an old thread, but has anyone found a resolution for this problem other than installing bandswitch? I did a search and while I may have overlooked a true solution, bandswitch (or similar) seems to be the only answer.
You could flash to the HTC ROM to get it.

Ahhh, but of course! While that is indeed a viable option in general, right now I need to keep the stock rom in place given some network issues that are "under investigation." Hence why I would like to/need to avoid installing bandswitch and would like the "factory," if you will, way of limiting to WCDMA.
Just install a 10 button Comm Mgr that has a 3g toggle option (if that's what you're talking about).

I am not here to be a critic, but man if you really work for AT&T you would know that you don't need the Field Test application to enter into the field test mode. For instance on the AT&T Tilt to enter the field test mode WITHOUT the Field Test application is *#*#364#*#*. Just my thoughts.
OK so is there a way to turn this on via the USB port?
I am looking for the steps to enable a 2nd diagnostic port and have this same data sent out the USB port Can you help me with that?

Very nice, didn't know you could use that code. I ended up making a shortcut icon for it.
Just use Windows Mobile itself!
Set the File Explorer to show all files and navigate to the /Windows folder. There you will find FieldTest.exe , copy it and then navigate to wherever you want and paste as shortcut.

Interesting, Operations huh. So i guess your regional supervisor is jack, Tell him I said hi. Since i cover the northeast region. Not to meddle, but don't you have all the test equipment provided to you by AT&T that is far more extensive than a field test mode on a tilt?? I mean damn go to any tower and use your AT&T provided test equipment, then tap into the switch. Operations HUH, I always thought we go by the name "Field Technician" guess i missed that memo.
test mode cell site id?
I am a contractor that builds cell sites for AT&T in Southern CA. We also install BDA's for customers that have poor indoor coverage. I am using the tilt and cannot figure out how to get the cell site id to show up while in test mode. Is the field test mode capable of showing this? Is there another program that I could install to have this ability? Having this ability would allow me to determine where the cell site is located in order to properly orient the donor antennas when we are doing a field. Also, does anyone have a link for what all the field test information is and what it means? I know most of them but a few of them are new to me. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
MAC

When you work for companies they don't tend to tell their employees stuff like this, during training they probably only told him/her about the field test program because that is what they want them to use.

I use my old Nokia 6600 with CellTrack application installed (http://www.afischer-online.de/sos/celltrack/index.html). It has an internal database created from a .csv file where I have loaded all the cellId, Lac, Network name, Site Name and descrition of all the radiobase station managed by me for my company (I work in Wind tlc).
I immagine an application for my Tytn that collecting the cellId and Lac (and ofcourse signal strenght) could perform a quick search in the database to load other info about name, description and address.
May be someone could write down an application like this?
sorry for bad english..

CellTrack is great but we need a similar application for Windows mobiles. I am a telco professional as well and so many fellow eng use Kaiser. Sure we have tools as well, but sometimes we like to play with cell infos when we are not at work. Telco is our hobbi as well

Hi there,
is there a posible way to get all info saved to a file as seen in the 'field test' program.
Hey there,
I have 2 questions which I seem to be unable to figure out. But so far I can't find the answer here in the forum, nor on the internet in general, neither in my registry....so please help me out
First all, I would like to have the size of my carrier which is being displayed in Manila to be bold or bigger in some way. It's quite annoying when driving nearby the border of the country having to stare at my display (danger for car traffic lol) to see whether I'm still on my national carrier or if it has changed to the one of the other country.
Second: I'm using a so-called virtual carrier. So my phone always think's that I'm roaming. It displays the triangle on top of the screen (that doesn't bother me at all), but what bother's me is that it's displaying the name of the network of the official carrier + the name of my virtual carrier.
As example, mine displays: 3G NL KPN NL TELFORT. Which is pretty annoying as that doesn't fit in my screen If I'd be abroad it would display 3G NL KPN VODAFONE IT (for Italy). In my case, I just want to see NL TELFORT, or VODAFONE IT or... well, you get the point. I don't need to be constantly remembered of what is my official carrier.
I remember in WM5 I could change names in the registry, if I remember correctly. But I can't seem to find this in WM6.1.
Could anyone help me with this?
Go to [HKLM/Software/Microsoft/RIL/OperatorNames] with your registry editor and create a new String value with your network operator 5-digit ID.
"00000"="OperatorNameWhateverYouLike" (you can enter any name you like, but it has to be a valid 5-digit ID for your operator)
Soft reset, or just reinitialize TF3D.
Example for Beeline (Russian GSM network) "25099"="Beeline"
Operator IDs have to be searched for. Some of them can be found here, or go to
[HKLM/Drivers/BuiltIn/RIL]
"StoredIMSI"="00000xxxxxxxxxx" - First 5 digits of your IMSI should match your current Operator ID. Good luck!
Thank you!! This has already helped me 75%
I hope someone coudl help me also getting the characters bigger

You're welcome. I'm pretty sure this cannot be done by registry changes. It's probably inside one of the Manila files.
Ok I ripped this from my Stock Alltel 6.1 TP Rom tracked down the files and reg entries and cab'd it all up.... I installed the cab on my TP now using SilenceMighty Rom and it functions perfectly.
I don't have or personally know anyone on another carrier to test it so I don't know if it will work on other carriers...
City ID, an application from Cequint, features information on more than 20,000cities in North America, providing enough detail to be useful identifying numbers calling from both across town and across the country
City ID service will automatically display the city and state where an incoming phone number is registered, providing additional information to help Verizon Wireless customers recognize unknown numbers
Installed on Verizon Samsung i760 w/ WM6.1. Programmed installed - I can look up numbers in the app, but it does not show location on incoming call or call history.
Ideas?
