Hi there!
I've been searching the 'net for a few hours now and have read various posts on the subject but nothing seems to work on my O2 XDA Stellar (Tytn II)
I'm trying to get the UK layout on the software keyboard...
eg.
Numbers 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 with 'shift' becomes
UK Symbols ! " £ $ % ^ & * ( ) instead of the US version which is
US Symbols ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( )
I've created the Locale DWordValue 0x809 (2057) in HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd and have selected CurLang 0x809 (2057) in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\MUI.
I've also copied the contents from HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts 00000409 and e0010409 keys and pasted them into new 00000809 and e0010809 keys, changing the LayoutTest in 00000809 to 'UK' and changing KeyboardLayout in e0010809 to 00000809.
I then change HKCU\keyboard layout\Preload (default) setting from e0010409 to e0010809 and then HKCU\keyboard layout\1 (default) setting from e0010409 to e0010809.
When I soft reset, I can enter my password and SIM passcode with no problems (the software keyboard displays the standard US layout), but when the home screen appears, all hardware buttons cease to work and the software keyboard is still is the US locale.
This didn't used to be so bad on my previous XDA (Mini S - Wizard) as it had a hardware mapping for the UK pound (£) sign on the V key on hardware keyboard, unfortunately the Stellar (Tytn II) doesn't have this
Any idea's?
Kind regards
Paul D
<Bump>
Surely someone on here has some experience of this???!!!
Kind regards
Paul D
Hi Paul,
You could try this
If you use the "Default" skin you get a keyboard like the one below

If you want to easily customize your own keyboard AND you're using the MDA Vario, the .xls file has the keyboard codes. I don't have the I-Jam or Qtek so I don't know what's printed on their slide-out keyboards, but it's possible that the key position and its corresponding code are the same across all branded HTC Wizards.
The creator of AEK has a bunch of layout maps for the MDA Vario on his website:
http://ae.inc.ru/aekmaplayout.php
I based my own custom layout on Peter Kaszanics's "Greman, HTC Wizard with QWERTZ keyboard" layout. Basically, I added:
; QWERTZ --> QWERTY
; transposed _ and -
; added \ symbol, mapped to SHIFT+DOWN key
; added ° degree symbol mapped to SHIFT+OK key
; ' apostrophe mapped to SHIFT+LEFT ARROW
; ?smiley face to DOT+OK
; ^ to SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW
; ± to SHIFT+BACKSPACE
Now, if anyone has a Vietnamese character layout, that would be da bomb! AEK is a really cool tool - I'll probably activate my copy.
Enjoy!

I made this Wizard Italian Keyboard Layout for AEKMap with accented characters mapping because I installed an WM5 AKU 3.3 Rom in my Italian Wizard and i could not use accented characters.
I hope it is bug free, only two characters have strange mapping now:
- = (shift+win)
_ = (AccentKey+X)
Other characters work well, you can continue using Ok,Win & Tab.
Make me know if is there any bug.

Revision N.1
Bug found/fixed: you could only use X & _ but not x.
Hello,
could you please help me out with a problem that you clearly solved? Since there is not much documentation on AEKmap, I can not use it.
My desperate need is for the Excalibur (Dash, Cosmo). It does not have German Umlauts on hw keys. I want to reprogram it like this.
Best case: Use FN-key (code 00EC)
Key "a" pressed: a, Key FN, then "a": Umlaut-a (ä), Key FN twice, then "a": the symbol that is blue on key "a".
If that can not be done, I have a keycode (00F1) of another hw key that I could use to get Umlaut-a.
I have trouble defining this stuff, it does not accept Accentkey2 to be defined. I do not know how to load, when I need soft reset, how to switch between layouts etc. In fact, I can not even do the simplest remapping.
I know this is asking a lot, but there is no description on the web how to use this potentially powerful tool. Could you please write a few lines? I take it from there.
Thanxx, Mixx

I don't use it anymore, anyway try writing this in a .aek file:
Layout yourLayout
Hint YourLayout
AccentKey 007A ;Blue dot + space
AccentKey2 007A ;(Blue dot + space) x 2 times
key 0041 c0061 c00E4 c00E4 ; a ä ä
In this case I use "ä" two times, you can substitute the second one with the Unicode key of that symbol,i don't know what do you have as blue symbol on "a",on my layout I have "!" that is c0021.
The syntax is c+Unicode.
The first one, without the c, is what do you want substitute.
Put comments after ";" .
Try this or modify it and let me know.
Bye, Angel
I installed the ATW keyboard fix that's supposed to increase the hardware keyboard lag on my tilt. I've always had the keyboard fix that I found in the sticky in the kaiser software thread, but it didn't work as well as it had with the other ROMs I've used. so I uninstalled it and tried the ATW fix. but now the symbols are all mixed up. the / and ! and such are not in their rightful places, but rather they are assigned to the keys they are assigned to on an actual PC. it's like this:
! = fn + 1
@ = fn + 2
# = fn + 3
$ = fn +4
and so on. the / and some other symbols aren't even assigned to any button on the keyboard, so I have to press fn + ok to bring up the symbol screen.
does anyone know of any keyboard fix that could fix this? or any registry hacks? (with the accompanying detailed direction of what exactly to edit)
I've already tried the keyboard fix that should be installed after flashing a custom ROM. oh, and my sig is wrong, I'm using mbarvian's solace 3.1 ROM.
oh and a hard reset didn't fix it.
ok after 2 hard resets and two reflashes it's back to normal. I just have to leave off the keyboard speed increase cab.
i just flashed my x1 with blackstone
and noticed that the hard keyboard layout changed (e.g. Fn + U = ! instead of 1, Fn + I = @ instead of 2)
does anyone have the fix for it? or kno how to change it back to how it's supposed to be?
i've done searches for changing keyboard layouts but no luck, all they're saying is just edit the registry with code 409 but i've checked my registry and they all seem to be the right codes
please help, thanks!!
Hello everyone,
Is there any way (a registry hack, I guess) to disable vibrate when dialling numbers using the phone keypad? I have not been able to find it anywhere yet. Those short vibrations are -- in my opinion -- useless and only drain the battery...
Any help would be much appreciated.

try to look the trick at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9436315&postcount=7
Dear Hakim,
I am afraid that the mentioned registry hack, i.e.:
Using Resco Registry, go to Hkey Local Machine / Software / HTC / ezsip
Add a new DWORD Value string and call it "VibrationEnabled" (without the quotes) and give it a value of 0.
then Soft reset and enjoy!

is of no use to me, because the string "VibrationEnabled" has already been present and held the value of zero. I believe this disables vibration related to the usual keyboard, not the phone keypad I am concerned with.
Anyway, thank you for your response.
Have a nice day,
nvx
I think there is no hardware keyboard in any variant of Diamond2. Are you sure it has one?
If you are looking for onscreen keypad vibration: Go to settings tab - personalize - Vibration: and you have check box to de-select.
Dear TD2IN,
You are right, there is no HW keyboard in Diamond2. However, there are several software keyboards, e.g. the usual QWERTY one (a "full" keyboard) or the phone keypad (similar to keypads on older cell phones with letters "a", "b" and "c" on 2, letters "d", "e" and "f" on 3, etc.). Disabling vibration upon pressing a key on the QWERTY software keyboard is easy and can be done (as you wrote) in Settings -> Personal -> Input -> ...
However, I am concerned with disabling vibration for the phone keypad (used primarily for entering phone numbers in the phone application) which cannot be done at the same place as disabling vibration for the QWERTY keyboard.
Have a great day.

I will also like to know this if you find solution.
thanks.
