Good Day XDA devs!! I have a BA aka XDA IIs wherein I use a 256mb SD Card. Every time I flash a new ROM, I copy the extended ROM in my SD Card. Since my SD card is quite short of storage space, I erased the other folders in my SD card to accommodate space. My problem starts when every time I'm done with my installation, the unit resets itself right...??? then after when I access my storage card, everything and I mean everything (the folders that I deleted) comes back to life!
How can I possibly "STOP" the storage card from "autoload" the folders that I have already deleted...
I tried doing a hard reset (power + record + reset) following the format NO, YES, YES. The 3rd entry states "format the storage card" to still "NO AVAIL"

Huh? Format Storage Card? or just Format Storage?
If you mean the SD card, If you need to format it go use a card reader.
The Format Storage Option in the bootloader is for the OS Storage, it's where your OS and other programs are located, you cant really format it empty. Otherwise, you'll have a bricked unit... Err... considering the bootloader is beyond the BA Storage Allocation, we are safe.
Check
for the "Storage"
Settings->System->Memory->Main
for the "Storage Card"
Settings->System->Memory->Storage Card
Hi all,
My problem with Diamond is that I can not access to 4GB storage memory. When it is disconnected from usb the 4GB can not be found anywhere. I tried formating also but storage not found. When I connect Diamond to pc via USB, then there is also not found as disc in windows. I tried to restart diamond but it didn't help.
Please help.
Thank you.
Tom
you need to hard reset it
OK thank you, I will try it. But I thougt that hard reset doesn't touch storage card. Doesn't it only reset ram and rom 256MB?
Yes but your problem is with the system, not with the 4GB themselves (which are NOT a storage card btw).
When it is disconnected from usb the 4GB can not be found anywhere
Anywhere? That's pretty diffuse and can mean... anything. If its not in explorer under internal memory (shows up as a folder, not a drive), then yes you got a problem. Likewise if you connect via USB file system (not activesync) and it doesnt show up as a drive, again you got a problem.

You can choose from reset only ram or reset ram and format 4GB internal storage.
i think you must format internal storage too.....

yes the folder "internal storage 2" is not in the listing of folders (of course diamond is not connected to pc)
and when I connect it to pc and choose "disc" (not active sync) then it is not found ....the letter is created in pc but it is not accessble.

When I try to restart diamond and run format 4GB internal storage then the program said that somethink like "no internal storage found".
looks like you have a serious problem.
you might need to take it for repair.
contact your supplier.
Hi all!
I did hard reset (I chose hard reset with deleting NAND - volume down in hard reset menu) and now the storage works fine. I am very happy that I don't need to send Diamond to service.
Have a nice day and thanks for all advices.
Tom
same problem -
is there anyway to avoid HR???

Please explain what you mean by "deleting NAND". Thanks.
Same problem, sigh....
One thing I notice is if I browse the windows device itself on Windows XP Explorer I can see the folder for the storage card. I can open it but its empty.
Jreach, I'm having the same problem as you. I had access to my internal storage and lost it within 20 minutes of receiving the device. I can't reformat using Clean Storage (mass storage cannot be accessed) nor can I see the internal storage using memory, storage card (no card installed message). All of this happened PRIOR to connecting my phone to the pc.
When I use active sync (and Windows Media Player to sync music), I cannot see the internal storage. Windows Media Player doesn't see it either. When I use file explorer or whatever the other option is, I see a removeable drive on my PC. I cannot reformat it. If I double click on it on my xp machine I get an error message saying the "F:\ is not accessible, the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."
Given that, I suspect we will not be able to fix this and must return our Diamonds to Sprint. Please let me know if you find a solution. Thanks.

It was just written in menu when selecting hard reset. reset with deleting NAND and reset without deleting NAND.... I think the NAND is the 4GB memory.
I know how to fix it!!!
Hi,
i have same problem with this. I formated storage card with windows XP and this is the problem!!! After i didnt see storage card in diamond explorer. I try everything Soft Reset, HR, edit register and nothing. And this help me with problem: Format Sotrage card with this program "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool". Google it and you will see.
BUT the capacity of storage card is now only 3,6 GB. I dont know how to fix it,but is better then nothing.
Sorry for my bad english.
Is it a Sprint Diamond? If so, I just got out of the same boat.
Try http://www.htc.com/us/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=148&cat=2&dl_id=436 - the Diamond Storage Fix.

I have Touch Diamond. Not Sprint Diamond. But thanks for reply.
Internal Storage vs SD Card Slot
I seem to come across an increasing number of issues with internal storage. Can it really get corrupted or have a limited life span just like the MicroSD cards? I am using a diamond and am contemplating upgrading to the Touch HD but the latter does not use internal storage. I was wondering which is more superior in terms of durability. Of course, I can also wait for the Asus P835 which has both. Any advice and views will be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Well done! Your HP USB Format tool worked! Thanx mate!
for some reason everytime i install programs it installs to my phone and not my sd card. when i run the cab it gives me the option storage card or phone and i select storage card, but it seems as if its still saving to my phone. any idea? my phones out of memory=(
Sometimes there's a folder called "Storage Card" in the phone and the system misses itself.
Or maybe you have problems with your SD card (do a search here about "SD corrupted" and read about it)
If you're experiencing problems always with this, you'ld better have to hard-reset.
Or you may try to modify the registry "by hand" using Total Commander or similar and tell that "storage card" is the card and not any folder.
Could you tell us what ROM are you using, and which is your memory / SD / etc. status ? (screen accessible via settings/system/memory) And how many apps are you installing there ?
basically my memory is reading the following:
from the storage card(2gb):
0.287gb used
1.610gb free
from my phone
122.5mb used
0.00mb free
i'm running abu's v10 ultimate with the 1.65.21.18 radio. its not the suggested but it hasn't given me any problems yet. its just this saving thinig that's been a problem. all of my ringtones and pictures go to the storage card so i don't understand why my CABS aren't. all i know is my phone keeps telling me critical memory. sheit.
how do i set it so that it saves in the storage card on total commander?
You got too much snizzle on your device, i'd recommed getting everything off via active sync/WMDC and performing a hard-reset start fresh back up your SD card and give a fat32 format with computer.
Then you'll be back on a roll with a fresh device
so i did the hard reset, but do i needa reformat my sd card too? its already as a fa32. so everything should be fine now? =)

SKTools is an excellent tool with many features. You can move apps from RAM to storage card. There is a trial version on their site: http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?sktools/m_feat.html
Here's a weird one. I am not trying anything complicated. I just want to copy some music to my new 32GB external SD card that arrived in the post today. I put it into a microSD to SD adaptor, and slide it into my laptops SD slot. It shows up as fat32 and I drag 30 gigs of music on to it. After a long time it completes, and I check in with XP to make sure its all good. Yep fine.
However, the moment I insert it back into my I9000 things get weird. The status bar pops up the usual "Initialising SD card" message, then the media scanner comes up and completes in like a second. Then when I try to browse it from within the phone, the entire music directory has disappeared, and the OS is reporting that there is 28gb of 32gb free on the external sd. So I unmount the SD, slot it back into my pc, and find to my dismay the music directory has indeed been erased.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.. I need my tunes!!
Cheers,
C

My 1st guess is fake/faulty card.
Copy files onto card with a reader.
Eject.
Insert again into reader.
Try to copy from card. (If it fails -> card is faulty or is FAKE)

If I were to guess, when the phone says it's "Initializing SD card" it's likely formatting the card and erasing whatever data you had on it...
When you install the card in your PC, do you format it again and then copy the files? If so, try not to format it on the PC and let the phone do the formatting.
I fully agree. Let the phone format the card and then use MOUNT mode to copy the music over. It seems Fat32 (formated on PC) won't work well for our phones prob due to a flag setting or something the like too big cluster settings. Let the phone sort it out.
Thanks for the help peeps. Here's what I've tried:
Xan: I tried copying files to and from the device using my PC's card reader, and found no problems with it. It is a Kingston MicroSD SDC4/32GB bought from a reseller on Amazon. Are there any tools for around for the pc to run diagnostic tests on SD cards? Maybe I should give that a go? But from the looks of it I think the error lies in the phone somewhere...
An Droid: I am inclined to agree with you. In my original post I stated that it said "Inititialising SD Card", this was a mistake, as it actually says "Preparing SD Card". I have tried formatting it from both the PC and the Phone and still get the same problem.
Icky Boo: I tried this method last night. Used the USB Debugging mode to Mount the phone's card's onto my PC. My Computer displays the two cards as two seperate Drives. I then tried copying all my music onto it. When the copy completed, I pressed "Turn of USB Storage Mode" on the I9000, which immediately prompted the status bar to again show "Preparing SD Card". Then when I used a file explorer to look at the card, it only had about a gig of music copied onto it. It is quite clear now that in "Preparing SD Card" it is doing something strange. Is there anyway to disable this?
Also there is a directory on the SD called Lost.DIR which seems to increase in size every time this happens. Could be a clue?
Finally, just to confirm my phone is mounting it correctly, to browse the SD card from within the phone the path is /sdcard/external_sd/ right? (I understand this is the new path for Froyo 2.2?)
Thanks for the help, sorry for the essay!

UPDATE: Ok, Xan, you were right all along. Finally got a new SD card (sandisk this time, not Kingston) and it works just as it should. Thanks for the help and to everyone else too
After i flashed my GT-I9000(without external sdcard), it reboot into recovery, and display "can't mount /sdcard" in red. And if i insert an external sdcard, and reboot, it can boot normally, but when i checked in menu -> setting -> sd card and phone storage, the "sd card" and "usb storage" are unavailable, only "system storage" is 1.83G. i tried several sd cards, no matter 2G, 4G, the same result. And if i plug the sd card to pc, 2GB of the card is disappeared. So, i think maybe there are some errors for my internal sdcard, and the system used 2G from external sd card. Can anyone help me to save my internal sd card back? Thanks.
