Can anyone recommend a secure password manager for my kaiser that will;
1) sync via Windows Mobile Device center to a desktop companion, and
2) work with Vista.
I have for years used SplashID however it does not play well with this combo. I am finding having to manually initiate syncs with the RAPI Sync version to be a pain.
E-wallet. Has it's own sync, but uses the activesync connection to update the Kaiser. You can set up the E-wallet desktop companion to sync whenever you connect.
Handango.com
SPB Wallet is also a nice one!
I've tested many of those wallet applications and I like eWallet by Iliumsoft most. Specially the future development on this wallet seems to be the most professional. You can try it out: www.iliumsoft.com

Secret!
Secret! works very well! Secret! Desktop 5.1 works well on Windows Vista now (testet with Device Center 6.1)
see http://www.linkesoft.com/secret/
Does splashid not work then? I too have used it for years, on an iPAQ PDA. Have just got a TyTN II and was going to transfer it onto it. However, I have not used my iPAQ for a year or so now (been using a Nokia N73), and have also upgraded to vista in that time. My version of splashid is probably well out of date too.
I use AI RoboForm. Works good for me.

Here's another vote for the KeePass combination. I use this myself.
Secret by linke soft
all these password managers have one flaw imho: they focus more on form than on function. all these icons and stuff... at least i do not need that.
http://www.linkesoft.com/
offers a very "non shiny" yet very functional password manager with nice "small" yet helpful features:
data entering in txt-style, desk top application available (no icons and stuff)
automatic copy and paste
TAN or OTP management (at least interesting for german online banking)
collapsing paragraphs for better overview
read-only-mode for preventing accidental overwriting
easy backup: all in one file
i think, that is all you need to have!

Hi,
I'd be interested in everyone's comments re the slowdown caused by adding programs, and I guess others would too.
Part of it is normal caused by eating up the available memory, both storage (and ram?)
However I have found that some applications do not seem to work well on the XDA2i, even though they do actually work. The problem is that this only comes to light after a while, after you've actually shelled out the money for a product that seems fine.
I list below products that I have found work on my XDA2i and those that seem to irritate the XDA2i so that it gradually gets worse and needs a hard reset.
I have tried defragmenting, and believe that Pocket Mechanic works fine a few times then things grind to a halt.
I am not an expert, and obviously cannot prove that the products are faulty, so take what I list 'with a pinch of salt' - but it might be that others might add others or agree/disagree with my findings, and might be careful about thoughily testing before purchase.
1-Calc 2.3.1 seems fine
BIBLE WITH YOU for Pocket PC- GMPSoft seems fine.
Journal Bar seems fine
POCKET ARTIST seems fine
Pocket Controller- Professional 5.04 seems fine
POCKET DVD WIZARD seems fine
Pocket Streamer Pro seems fine
PocketBible - NIV Version by Laridian seems fine
RESCO EXPLORER 2005 seems fine
TCPMP (The Core Media Player) (freeware) seems fine
MTUX RingToneX - Ringtone Coloring 2.1 not sure about this
DVD to Pocket PC for me was problematic after version 2
1-Pass - Revolutionary Security App not sure
eXPerience (Windows XP Style Interface) had this running ok but slow on XDA2 but not tested on XDA2i
File Transfer Anywhere(PPC Anywhere) 3.01. Tried trial period but didn't like it.
iLOCK e-wallet password manager 1.0.1 had this running ok but slow on XDA2 but not tested on XDA2i
POCKET TV ENTERPRISE worked fine up to version 1.2 on my XDA2i
Pocket Mechanic. Not sure. I bought it to defrag XDA2i and storage. Found that after a few times the system slows down and needs to be restored.
TV Remote commander. Not sure about the usefulness because Very limited range.

andromeda9,
try using Tweaks2K2.NET. quite amazing tweaking software. can speed up your display. i can feel the speed different.....
Tweaks2k2net
Thanks Clustered.
I've downloaded the trial. What settings worked best for you?
Under Video, I tick the Speed Up Display.
Thanks the display is quicker...
Thanks for the tip...
The display is quicker.
It seems overkill to go for Tweaks2K2 but just for one display fix, and the Date/time on the bar (I love it!) so is there anything else you might recommend?
Thanks
just try yourself....maybe you will like others.....
Ok.
Appreciate your help.
I removed O2 Active and the XDA2i is about 10 times quicker and more reliable now.
This is how I removed O2 active:
1) Use file explorer to navigate to: my device>windows>startup.
2) Move the file called connections to another folder.
3) Navigate to: my device>windows>fonts.
4) Rename the "xpdr_02" file to "xpdr_021".
5) Soft reset your phone.
6) Go to: Settings>system>remove programs.
7) Uninstall O2 active. You may get a message saying that certain dll files are in use in windows directory- simply use file explorer to rename these files and try again. Rename them back afterwards.
8) Use file explorer to navigate to: my device>windows>fonts.
9) Rename the "xpdr_021" file back to "xpdr_02".
10) Navigate to: my device>windows>mobile solutions.
11) Cut and paste this folder to your built in storage
12) Soft reset the phone.
Thanks Hedley!
Hedley,
:?:
I just thought of a question re your unistall procedure.
After unistall, can you change 'profile' in order not to cause problems on aircraft?
In Active, I quite liked the simplicity of the email setup. I suppose once it's installed it is not neccessary, but did you find / is there anything else likely to be needed after removing?
Thanks
It is definately Faster!!
I am impressed with this one, my XDAIIi is definately a lot faster!
Cheers for that!

Hi Hedley,
:?:
I'm thinking about what you describe, maybe migfht trial it over Christmas... but once Active is uninstalled can you tell me how I might cope with Airplane travel?
i.e. can you turn off the 'airplane' parts? because obviously just shutting down the XDA leves it actively listening.#
Thanks
"Flight" mode
You can enable flight mode (turn off mobile receiver) by tapping the reception icon on the top bar. In the bubble that appears, there is a link to "Turn on flight mode" / "Turn off flight mode"
The piece of software I really miss in the O2 active is the "profile" stuff, which unless I'm blind isn't in the 2003 OS. For example: normal, work, silent, noisy etc
I wouldn't manually uninstall the Active rubbish - do a corporate install instead. If you have to manually delete locked files etc etc you're asking for trouble later.
Thanks MMM
Thanks for the information and tips.
What is a corporate install - I am not familar with the term.

Goto Start->Settings->Today->Items and uncheck the ones O2 puts on there (can't think off hand which ones they are!) this stops the dll in use messages.

The only problem with the corporate install I found, was it didn't setup the O2 GPRS and MMS settings before finishing device setup, I had a pain setting them up manually, and when I finally managed it, they didn't work 100% (or maybe it was i didn't trust my work 100%!)
You can invoke a corporate install by selecting it when it asks if you are a personal or corporate user. it'll ask you for a password, which is 0506 if memory serves me correct.
Fairly new to the latest incarnation of WM and am just getting to grips with a TyTn II which I've bought that overall I'm quite impressed with. There are a couple of issues that I'm having with it that probably stem from a lack of familiarity with WM and also from drawing comparison with Palm and Nokia devices which I have used previously as PDAs. Any comments to avoid me wasting hours trying to find out how to achieve the potentially unachievable would thus be much appreciated:
1) Synchronising - files/folders: My previous Palm handled this QUITE well where MS Office type docs were concerned (Documents To Go) and even the Nokia Phones seem to do what I want to achieve better than I can manage with the TyTn just now. Essentially, I want to be able to synchronise the TyTn with a folder on the PC that contains JUST a number of Office type documents which I want to synchronise. Currently, no matter what settings I opt for I cannot do this. I know I can drag and drop from the File Manager part of Windows Mobile Device Centre (Vista PC) but that will not achieve automated synch for changed versions etc. Currently I select Synch Files (which is not selected by default on WMDC) and then move the files I want copied into the device into that folder. OK so far. Yet, when I hit Synch it then seems to insist on copying EVERYTHING on the phone into that folder on the PC too!!!! That makes a snych quite a long process and essentially all I want to synch is the 8-10 Office docs I want. Is this beyond WM? I would have thought this a relatively basic requirement which even Nokia with its Briefcase folder seems to be capable of doing. I have tried deleting all the non-Office files out of the PC file synch folder that WMDC created and then uses but then of course that just result in them being taken off the phone when I Synch!!! I've scoured Help, the Manual and numerous sites trying to find away round this but so far I do not seem to be able to synch files unless I synch everything
2) Notes (Categories v Folders): I use Notes on a PC a lot and because I use so many I tend to have them bundled in categories. Despite what I try though I do not seem to be able to get any semblance of order to them when they come across to the TyTn which just shoves them all in 'My Documents' (this makes it a real pain when using Explorer on the device too as there are 200 or so notes to scroll through when looking). I've tried moving the notes on the TyTn to Folders on the device after they are copied over but that just seems to cause a second copy on the PC to be created with the 'note title/folder' format upon the next synch?? Outlook clearly uses categories in a way that does not seem to be replicated on WM/TyTn and as such it seems you can only achieve a long unorganised list of notes on the target device. Using folders on the device does not then read across well to Outlook.
I am conscious that there are apps out there that might allow better management of the Notes problem (Phat Notes) and there may be better folder/file synch options with software like Documents To Go but I am wondering if I'm missing something with the basics here that mean I should be able to do what I want. It does seem odd that selecting Synch Files should result in such an arbitrary copying of the whole content of the device when on may devices it is there merely to ensure you can create a Briefcase type folder to synch just what YOU want.
I have not yet upgraded to the new WM 6.1 either so not sure if that provides any solutions. I plan to do that shortly (and am assuming that if I do the WM 6.1 I won't ALSO need the ROM upgrade that was put up by HTC before that?). Any help much appreciated
Use GoodSync (Link). It allows Bi-directional sync, allows you to select folders to synchronize and has a host of other features. There is a free and pro verion of goodsync so check it out and decide which one you want.
IMO it can take care of almost all the things that you mentioned ...
Whats wrong with Outlook? It does Notes/Favs/Tasks/Calender/Contacts/E-mail...I mean theres not much it doesn't do besides SMS and Calling from computer. These are really easy to use and customize files to push back and forth when connected to Activesync.
Empgamer: I've got the same issues with WM6,1 as you described. I'm genuinely amazed that Windows Mobile syncing to windows (Vista, so no active sync for us) doesn't work out of the box when managing edited documents on your PC & PPC. The PalmOS, with Documents To Go, always did an excellent job of this. As for the notes, I can't even get Mobile Office OneNote to sync with OneNote on my PC! What's the point of that?
Anyway, I'd be very curious as to how you solved your issues; I'm currently spending countless hours trying to get the functionality on my Windows Mobile device that I took for granted on PalmOS. (BTW, DocsToGo doesn't support syncing on Windows Mobile! Seriously, that's one of the main things DTG had going for it. I'll never understand what developers think when they come out with these products.
Background:
All iphone users know how terrible itune when it came to file and audio management on your iphone. When I am Googling for beter pc suit than itune for my friends iphone, I found out this.
Same soft available for WM as well.
I think original version of software is Chinese. When you change language to English, some of background images remain with Chinese. It doesn't have any impact on.
Hope this will useful to someone
It has more options than Activesync and Mymobiler
Check this out and send your comments

It looks like it has a lot of useful features. But it does not recognize my phone.
With Activesync installed on my XP SP2 system, my phone works fine.
This software requires Activesync, and the phone to be connected and AS to recognize it.
But even with that, the software says "Disconnected" when I plug my phone in.
I have tried on four different systems here at work.
Apparently, my firewall was blocking all contact with the update server. It said very bad things. Not sure why.
So I am now running the application in a virtual machine here at work (IT Admin for a living), and allowed it to update only to that machine.
It is running now, and is almost entirely in English. It sees the phone. Time to play with the software.
hehe the software Chinese version come along with lot of AD link lead to pages.
the functions are great and I found it the best group SMS tool, much better than those PPC apps.
If there are more than 600 in group, the apps on PPC will keep crashs, but I did it with this soft.
This doesn't work on my Vista PC.
Any suggestions for a hassle free password storage app that's relatively secure and very reliable?
I have used SPB Wallet
you can find it Here:

I use Hide My Stuff not sure this fit's your needs but worth a looky.

I completely agree on keepass. I have been using it for over a year now and it is great.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone I am trying them all.
Those of you using KeepPass, are you using the PC version as well, if so what version can share a datafile with the PPC version, looks like compatibility stops being stated around v1.14 (PC) with the most current PPC version?
Throwing in CodeWallet 2006 as an option. I've used it for the past 4 or some years now and have had all my data easily migrated and synced between 4 computers, one smartphone and one pocketpc.
What it doesn't do well is integrate with Firefox, which is my next quest .. however I have been more than happy with the product.
Did you try PocketPasswords?
www.pocketpasswords.com
I heard they are currently making a new version, which then has a PC app, too. You can then finally manage passwords and so on via PC, like with wallet.

I'm using 1.14 on PC and 0.4.6 on PPC. 1.15 for PC has not been out long so that may be why the PPC version is not yet compatible.
There is not auto sync between PC and PPC you need to copy the data file from one to the other. Not a big problem as my passwords only change once a month.
I'm being using FlexWallet since I migrated from a Dell Axim. No complaints:

Cross Platform
I use HandySafe.
The beauty of it is that if you move platform (I came from UIQ), just by installing and then copying the data file, you can use the same passkey and all content (well, some text hard return is now 'box' symbol on the note) are there ..
It works on WM, S60 and UIQ. It even comes with Desktop version ..
Hi, Maybe someone can help, I have searched through google, microsoft forums and here - no luck so far :-(
I got Vista Hope Premium, Office 2007 (home and sudent) and X1 ;-), unfortunately Outlook was not supplied with X1 so....
how the hell can I open notes from my phone (*.pwi) on my laptop and desktop?
I am afraid this is lost case :-( seems to me ti was mistake to by WM device instead of Android :-(
HELP! and thanks
http://www.pocketpcaddict.com/forum...t-read-pocket-pc-word-document-my-laptop.html
found googling for "pwi open on pc office 2007
Seen it already but it has nothing to do with my problem :-(
Vista does not have ActiveSync anymore.
I do not have problem with Word files.
So link you gave me is irrelevant :-(
I have seen almost all there is in the net about pwi files - if no one here knows than simply it is not possible to achieve :-(.
At the moment it is not possible to read *.pwi files in Vista unless one has full Ms Outlook (not supplied with X1) and it is possible to open them in Outlook only not in Windows :-( seems to me that because of that a lot of users is "suffering".

For PC, to replace Windows Mail, that doesn't support notes, contacts and calendar sync from WinMo devices.
I've just sold my old iPaq on ebay, I should have kept the Outlook installation CD with me !
I do not want Outlook I have spend money (quite a lot) on X1, I bought (earlier) Office 2007 without Outlook as I do not need such a big application just for calendar/contacts and mail (way to confusing). Now, Nots that I love in my X1 are not really usable if I can not open them on my PC, edit, send to someone who just want to click and have them opened.
Is there anything out there that would have the same features but would not require MS Outlook? Almost everyone has Ms Word... so a mobile application whose files could be opened by Word would be great!
Pwi files are only opoened by Ms Outlook - it is not really fair by MS... but.... what can we do? Just buy Android or iPhone next time

I quite agree with you, I would add it's pathetic that MS doesn't include any small PWI viewer/converter in Vista (up to XP, Active Sync did it)
A dirty workaround could be to install Agile Notes as standard Notes replacement on the mobile, as this tool has the capability to save note in RTF format (readable with MS Word)

Will this app. allow me to save text and drawings/hand writing? And than open it as in PDA on PC?

Dirty because RTF format is less compact than PWI and because this tool takes longer to start than the standard note writer (I've installed on my X1 but never used for this reason, when I need to write down a note I need to do it quickly)
Honestly I don't remember if it can save also drawings, just have a look
http://www.agilitylab.com/index.html
BTW: it's also freeware !
I have just installed it. It's ok but! it does not allow for handwriting and drawing :-( This is the most important feature for mi in notes app.
If you guys have anything that will do it and will allow to open itself on PC (without Outlook!!! ), pls let me know.
For normal notes I can always use Word Mobile.
