So my area is HSUPA, like a most places will be in the US within a month.. However, the Qualcomm MSM7200 in the Kaiser DOES support HSUPA but yet it doesn't work. (verifed locally with a pc card and got 1293kbit upload) I tried the new Sedna radio hoping that would fix it, but nope. Perhaps it is a registry fix? or disabled somewhere else?
This is huge not having this enabled. BIG difference
Nobody cares? You would think this would be a big deal for people
maybe no one find a tweak yet. using kaisertweak you can turn on HSPA. maybe wait a while longer for them to find a hack.
What's your frickin' hurry?

Geez, give people 24 hours at least!
Frankly speaking, I don't give HSUPA a f***ng care! On Tilt (aka Kaiser), Wifi G on Verizon FiOS 15Mbps down stream vs. HSDPA in Washington DC area, doesn't make any different!
i have HSPDA too, does that mena that i have to make a new thread for my self...
It's frilling amazing nobody is reading the OP, and the fact he's asking about HSUPA - not HSDPA, not the H symbol, not KaiserTweak, no the Kaiser doesn't support HSPA.
So you're telling us that the new radio firmware (WM 6.1 and post I presume) actually enables the missing HSUPA functionality now?
That would be a nice hidden upgrade since it was never supported before even though the chip supported it (much like the missing video drivers).
Is this only on the AT&T radio, or HTC mass deployed it also? Meantime, even though you're an at&t engineer, I doesn't explain why you're not getting UPA speeds. Are you sure the towers aren't capping UL, or it could be it's not really enabled on the Kaiser?
Does the FieldTest app tell you anything?

Alright, check it out. I have seen allot of comments on here about how AT&T most likely lock the gps to their telenav service and many are upset. Well I shared your concerns until I found the update for the HTC Mogal, someone posted a few days ago. I have never tried tom tom and of course in a perfect world we could choose, however I must say I do not care anymore. The updated telenav is pretty sick IMO, as they changed the interface and added traffic support. What else is missing? I for one am content and just thought I would share so some can relax a bit.
*zero* chance of ATT locking the GPS to a particular service

Based on what? You speak as if this is the definitive answer. How do you know? I am all for it as I wouldnt be oppose to trying a different type of navi but there seems to be different opinions on this. Since you know everything, when is the tilt being released, also will it be in the morning or afternoon delivery truck?
wait 2 weeks and you will see

I, for one, am not going to pay for the Telenav service! I just want a GPS for those "detour" days and road trips. Stand-alone GPS devices out there do not need a paid subscription (except for traffic) so I would prefer 8925's GPS to be the same way. Even if AT&T locks the GPS to Telenav, I am pretty sure it will be a software lock and guess where do we hangout? xda-developers!!! After some time, we will have custom ROMs popping everywhere that will not only enable the "maybe-locked" GPS but also get rid of all the bloatware and make 8925 one snappy device.
it is nice to know that the tel nav is good. i have stepped inside 4 different AT&T stores to check on kaiser availability and each time I have also asked whether the GPS will be locked to tel nav and each time i was told you will be free to use whatever software you want.
1. Wont matter as XDA would un-do locking to TelNav.
2. While I might actually pay and use TeleNav...it would be a dealbreaker if for some dumb reason like XDA could not break it or if ATT removed GPS all together. Not saying either would happen, just that for me GPS is the only reason to upgrade at this point.

WHAT! GPS IS THE ONLY REASON TO UPGRADE? How can you say that when the screen tilts up? LOL. Just kiddin brotha, but seriously dont the specs on this bad boy get your attention as well? Although I consider myself the dumbest smart person I know, I still notice it has double the rom/ram whatever the hell it is and has 3 mp camera, and is the newest htc for at&t. Come on dude, navi is the only reason?

For me yes it must be GPS. The Hermes was great for me, I just like the GPS, and a NEW toy. But a new toy for $400-$800 better have full GPS even if I need to run an HTC ROM, it at least better have the hardware and be hackable. The 3MP camera is nothing for me. I dont take pics with a phone and when I do once a year, I dont expect much.
I look at my current desktop PC that is a model year 2003, yes its old but I run XP PRO and do everything I need at fairly quick speeds after the RAM upgrade. So why buy a new PC.....people say faster processor and more Video RAM, etc....but for what the PC does it works great. So why upgrade.

For those on Rogers, what do you find is the best radio to use with your Kaiser?
Try the one in my sig.. unless you're using that one.
I'm gunna try a bunch of other ones over the next few weeks, but i'll keep you posted.
FYI I'm with Fido but that shouldn't matter cuz Fido/Rogers uses the same cell towers.
I'll give it a shot. I'm currently using radio 1.58.16.27. I had read good things about it and it came pre-loaded on Dutty's latest ROM. I haven't tried any others yet. When I'm on the phone with this radio, it was crackling a bit but I'm unsure as to whether or not it was my phone or the phone with the person I was talking to. Only made one call as I just got my Kaiser the other day and have been playing around with the other great features of it.
Keep me posted on your findings. Thanks!
whatsup guys,
I've had my phone for a couple months now. 1.58.16.27 is, in my opinion, the best radio for me, in Ottawa. 1.64....21 works really well also.
btw, chek my sig for all radio downloads. I think I have uploaded most of them, if not all.
What's the RADIO thing?
How do you know if it's best or not?
I'm with Fido, and using Dutty April 9 Rom, do you guys have anything to suggest me?

If you check the ROM section in here you should be able to find your answer as to what exactly a RADIO rom is.
Now as for finding the best, each radio will have different effects for most people because of their locations plus carriers. So it's really hard to for someone else to tell you it's the "best" radio, that's something you have to find out yourself.. or have someone who uses the same carrier as you and that lives in the same general area as you.

I did do the search, but nothing was found. Maybe the definition of Radio is too simple to put it into words. I mean, as I understand it's simply a rom that connect to the frequency of the provider's tower...
The only reason I'm looking for it, is because I'm getting sick of having the Roaming logo on my phone. Because i'm with Fido and my phone is connect to Rogers tower.
You are using: 1.27.12.11... I'm using Dutty rom, and RAdio 1.58.16.27 now thou... should I go for yours instead?

Is that mean you have the roaming logo as well?
You'll get the roaming logo more often if your in the suburbs. Rogers is more predominant in the suburbs. Fido is more often found in Downtown Toronto or GTA.
Im using the radio on my sig for almost 3 weeks and reception and GPS is great. Battery life sucks though.
Im gonna back to the SEDNA radio 1.58.13.28 since i had a better battery life than this one.
i do have the logo but it doesnt show up cuz i'm using a vista theme with wisbar advance...i do this because it looks better...but having that triangle doesnt even bother me...not that big of a deal..cuz its not like i'm getting charged for roaming anyways...its because u have a fido sim card but using rogers towers..

the one on the US Diamond is just the regular .08 radio, you can get it in the radio thread. Also, many people have already tried and it doesn't work if you doesn't have a US version Diamond. No matter what you do on a Euro Diamond, it's not going to work.

Hey guys. kind of funny to wake up and know that i was right about the whole 4g working on a 3g device. Either you guys just want to believe it sooo bad that it clouded your judgments and made you assume you had 4g? Funny thing is, would you expect to have 3g on your old Nokia 3200. I doubt it. Same theory. Cannot, and will never be able to carry a 4g signal, on a non 4g device. EVER. Lol. Good one on their part, but seeing as there such "big bad Dev's" they shouldn't have done that to the community like that. I mean people follow you guys habitually, and it could have messed their phones up. Just saying. Anyways, here are some of my favorites from the madness. Peoples personal experiences with the "super-d-2G-day". Not April fools. BenD-fools day.

Cant wait to get home and test this on a tower with less traffic" - Classic. Megaspeeds with 2g, naaaa.
2.)Proxin wrote - "You must install adb to have the proper permissions set for your hardware (usually your hardware only supports 3g/edge speeds for data, but this patches the connection output so that it tells the phone to allow 4G)." - Ahhh, the scientific approach to believing in something false.
3.)Jook11 said - "eah, I had a 4G symbol for a few minutes when I flashed this but speed test looked more like EDGE. anyway the 4G icon went back to 3G before long and I havent seen it again." - A firm believer due to the icons. Haa.
4.)BBuchacher said - "the speed is not up to 4g or sometimes its worse than 3g, but you ARE accessing a 4g network, the speeds will be improved as we work more on the code" - Adding fuel to the fast spreading fire.
5.)Cal-El wrote - "I only have the 3G icon but man my downloads and page loading are really flying and not placebo maybe its faster but really noticable. I belive it. " - This has to be the best one. SMH. "I believe it"

I'm seeing tons of GB GPS fixes for the vibrant even though most will not work.
I saw GPS files for the bell and virgin vibrant posted here and files for the
telus Fascinate 3G+. These files will not work because the vibrant carries a different hardware radio.
The T-mobile US Vibrant is a special variant as our phone is the only galaxy s device (other than the SGS4G) that has the 850,1700,1900,2100 bands, all other galaxy s variants have 850,900,1900,2100mhz bands. Our vibrant requires 1700 3g because thats what tmobile US uses for 3G, because of this difference we need a different hardware radio, That's also why we cannot use i9000 modems on the vibrant for tmobile US The bell and vibrant are just rebranded GT-i9000's and the Telus Fascinate 3G+ looks like a vibrant but may even be more similar to a captivate because of the hardware radio. Even though they may have the same styling or name it does not work because of the hardware radio.
The Captivate has a near identical (FM Radio is not present) hardware radio that allows it to use i9000 Modems and GPS files, same with the telus fascinate.
The vibrant and the SGS4G have different hardware radios to support 21mb/s HSPA+. These two hardware radios are similar enough to allow GPS to work but remain modems non-functioning. Romans GPS fix worked but had long lock times and poorly working compass.
Heathens Gingerbread gps fixed worked on the vibrant on 2.2 very well but fails on 2.3. What I think is the vibrant may have hardware similar enough to allow some files to work on one version of android but maybe completely useless on another version of android.
Just so you guys know,
Bell and virgins vibrants ARE NOT T-mobile US vibrants
Telus fascinates LOOK LIKE but ARE NOT T-mobile US vibrants
International galaxy s vibrants ARE Bell and Virgin Vibrants
Rodgers captivates ARE IDENTICAL to at&t captivates
The i9000 galaxy s and the bell and virgin vibrants HAVE NEAR IDENTICAL RADIOS to the rodgers and at&t captivates
Tmobile US SGS4G's are SIMILAR to the Tmobile US Vibrant
Subway IS NOT Quizno's
McDonald's IS NOT Burger king

You're going to have to explain why the cell radio affects the GPS. There's a different antenna and GPS is not controlled by the radio firmware.

Just one tip philliple...when trying to sound like you know something never use the term "what I believe is". Don't get me wrong I am guilty of it also. Instead you might say "correct me if I'm wrong but..." Gives your statement an air of confidence and knowledge yet gives you an out if in fact what you said is incorrect. And I do know how old you are, we all do so respect there.
That said you are correct the GPS does require data in our case cellular data. While we can use the gps without cell data, on a wifi connection for instance, because the GPS is on a phone the code for the drivers would be written to connect to cell service. Therefore GPS files, such as drivers (some files that don't require code to the network will work, such as GPS conf.), can not just be pulled from any phone. This is why the files pulled from the Vibrant 4G work and the ones from Captivate do not.
Here is a link to a little light reading for anyone that wants to learn more about the GPS on their phone...http://stackoverflow.com/questions/33637/how-does-gps-in-a-mobile-phone-work-exactly Pay close attention to the AGPS section. I don't believe this is correct. Our phones have GPS hardware are capable of independent GPS, that is GPS without data assistance for a lock. It takes quite a bit longer without AGPS, but it is entirely possible. Try changing your GPS to standalone mode, disabling all other location services (via WiFi and via cell tower) and putting it into Airplane Mode, then launch Google Maps. You can obtain a lock.
