Anyway to schedule disconnect 3G/GPRS Data connection? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

Hi,
Don't know if anyone else is experiancing this but i have activesync push email active and set to "as items arrive" and my peak times set up. When the end of day peak time comes round the mail stops syncing which is by design and cool but the 3G/GPRS data conection stays active (small icon on the signal bars). I have searched around but found nothing, basically i want to schedule the data connection to disconnect at the end of the day, and actually kill the open 3G connection...
Any ideas...?
I've looked at a few bits of software but currently it seems that all thats on offer is disconnect after x mins of inactivity or just disconnect after x mins, this is not really what im after and also these settings kills the similtanious voice and data connection which i don't want either....
If not i may look at writing this myself....

Try commgr pro @ www.commmgrpro.com. It's a fantastic program.
RK

thanks for the suggestion, had another look around and this one is far the best and does exactly what i want it to do: (active sync been running allday/as items arrive via push email) stopping as per schedule in AS at 18:30 then at 18:35 kill/disconnect the gprs connection using this software via the device - #disconnect command, sweet

Hi _DrG_,
I totally agree with you about skschema . Its a great software that do just what i want, that is save my battery for example the night by deactivate the GSM (3G for Pushmail too).
Just a question: how do you deactivate only DataConnection but not GSM? Do you succeed in doing that? OR do you deactivate GSM so pushamil doesn't work ?
Thanks for your answer.

I'd use the reg file in this post I created earlier

Some of the more popular Profile Switchers ... like Phone Weaver (and probably PhoneAlarm) can do this.
For example I have a Night profile that turns on at 11:30pm that mutes the alert volume, lowers the phone ringer, dims the screen, and shuts off Push Mail.
At 5:30am the Day profile kicks in and turns everything back on.
From a communications standpoint PhoneWeaver can control Wifi, Bluetooth, Phone Radio, Push email, Default Internet Connection, and the cellular data connection.
check it out.

I also use PhoneWeaver to do this - great little app which also puts my phone onto vibrate during meetings etc.

Media Net Disconnect Program
Hello, I found these two programs to manually connect and disconnect from your network. I love the DataConnector program because it only requires you to launch the program and it takes care of the rest. The DataDisconnect, on the other hand, requires you to launch the program, select the network you want to disconnect, then press disconnect. I am using WisbarAdvanceDesktop2 and would like to be able to write a script that will launch dataconnector, update the weather (or whatever else), and then launch datadisconnect. I am hoping that someone here knows of a hands-off program that only requires the single tap of the execution file to disconnect from the network, or who could hack the datadisconnect program and make it hands-off.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
khoury4

Dopod D810 randomly turning on

My bro and I both bought the above units and have upgraded to the GPS rom. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed the unit switches on by itself. We are both experiencing this problem but also have the same programs running. The button lock feature is set on.
That's right. My Trinity is alive, too ;-)
I'm using the dopod rom about one week and I noticed that today for the first time.
There's no application running in the background. It's still alive ;-)
I do not care about this problem.
Hi,
Any software you are running?
Best regards,
Gilbert
Today programs are as follows:
cLaunch
Today Agenda
Battery Pack / Program Bar
PPCProfiles
I will try and eliminate one by one to see if it is software related.
Anyone else using one of the programs and having the unit switch on by itself. This issue bothers me as I see its going to be a drain on the battery.
Activesync may be the culprit
Many PPC WM5 devices tend to turn themselves on. It is usually an Activesync setting that periodically turns on the device and tries to connect to a non existant server. Best bet is to set up a dummy server on Activesync on the PPC, then set the sync settings to Manual, then delete the dummy server.
Sorry if you already have done this, but it certainly solved the issue for me.

Hey Camstech, could you please give me a detailed description of how to set this up?
Thanks
My phone seems to do this too, but from what I can see, it is because of bad 3G coverage and the phone has to roam to GSM and back. Only happens at work where I got bad coverage (2/4).
AFAIK this issue is common to ALL devices and all versions.
I understand that you DO NOT TURN THE PDA OFF (Holding the on/off button), just go to "standby". So there are many Apps that tend to "awake" rather than TURN ON your PDA. It's like Sleep mode vs Hybernate in Windows. Agenda or scheduled items may turn your PDA active, even SMS messages that don't fully arrive, phone reconnecting, GPRS or UMTS changing status, profiles that are set to change over time, incoming calls, etc.
I think this is not specific to a certain ROM but to the fact that you have a full time connected and running computer in your pocket....
Hope it helps.

I would have to agree to a point, as I have noticed when PPCProfiles changes automatically to my car mode (bluetooth on) the pda turns on. So you are right that it's programs possibly turning it on but this never happened on my O2 mini (WM2003SE). I'm hoping a new ROM may fix this issue.
I have disabled the "auto switch template" on PPCProfiles which changes over to bluetooth at a certain time of the day and it appears to have stopped the pda turning on by itself. So far so good for 1 day. Curious if anyone else is using PPCProfiles and are experiencing this. Does anyone else use other phone profile programs with switching templates that does not turn on their pda by itself?

You can find the program link below. I never had any issues when using this program on my O2 mini. It still works on my dopod d810 just that I have disabled the auto switch template.
ps the chrome template is the nicest

Correction to my thinking it was PPC profiles. It is actually happening when the bletooth is turned on ( hence ppc profiles switching over to car mode - bluetooth). I disabled ppc profiles and turned on bluetooth and strangely enough the dopod kept turning on.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem when they have bluetooth on?

Mine sometimes turns itself on when it automatically checks my email accounts, but not always. I wonder if it isn't the 3G/Edge switch that is explained earlier. My house is in a 3G fringe area. I believe it doesn't try and wake itself up when the Wifi is on. My Prophet never did this, it would only wake up for an alarm, call, or SMS.
The main issues are reduced battery life and if you have your phone in your pocket and it wakes up, buttons can be accidentally pressed before it goes back to sleep.

Bluetooth file transfer fails when in standby

When trying to transfer a file from another phone to my Kaiser, if my phone is in standby, the sending phone can not connect and displays transfer failed.
It works fine when my phone is not in stand by and the display is lit up.
Three questions.
1. Is there a setting so the phone will accept incoming BT file transfers when in standby?
2. Is there a way to have the phone automatically accept the incoming file? I.E. Not have to select Yes to save?
3. Is there a way to change the default location that the file is saved to?
Thank you in advance.

Same here, I have to turn it on.. I find I don't have to unlock s2u2 or anything, but it does have to be on.
I think you can change the location in the Bluetooth settings, it's unchecked by default and set to \my documents\bluetooth share or such, I think if you check it and change it, it'll save it to a different place than just \my documents
When the phone is in stand-by its asleep.
Something has to wake it. And that's usually a button press or receiving a call.
To allow Bluetooth to wake the phone the Bluetooth Radio would have to be left on all the time. Depleting your battery much to fast.

I disagree. The Bluetooth radio is indeed on all the time. This is proven by establishing a Bluetooth Dial-Up networking connection to the the phone while it is in standby. Which wakes-up my phone. In addition, one can query the available services of the phone when in standby. Thus the reason I ask why the phone needs to be out of stand by when sending a file to it.
Other BT services can be used or established when in standby mode. Why can't file transfer?
see this thread. The program says that it will allow you to set it to auto-accept bluetooth transfers as well as customize the save location. i do not see anything about when the device is in standby. do read my post at the end of the thread though before install the application. latest version here.
Thanks for the program. But I'll pass. Too many issues as I read it.
i htink all tytns do this as mine does. and so did my universal i think its a security thing so people cant hack the phone while its asleep, (ie if someone wants to do something you screen has to be on so you can see whats happeneing

Automatically enable WiFi and sync thru WiFi at scheduled time?

I am trying to find a way to do automatic syncs and backups at scheduled times (middle of the night) for my family (we all have AT&T Tilts).
I have a desktop that I use as a home server, and I would like to store all the data and backup files there.
Is there a way to do this? The only way I can think to have anything like this would be to have something like Sprite Backup do an automatic backup and save it to the networked drive. But to connect to the network drive I will need to have WiFi on. So I will need some way to have to WiFi turn itself on every night and connect to my home network at a certain time, and disconnect after an hour or so. Is there any way to do that?
Also, assuming there is some way to get the WiFi to come on at a scheduled time, is there a way to make activesync perform a sync over WiFi at a certain time every night?
You might want to check this thread out. I've not tested the application yet, but perhaps within it there is a time that can be set for the application to activate and then start your wifi. If not you could request! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448783
Alternatively you might want to head over to the mortscript thread - I'm sure it's something they could help you knock up if it's not already there? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=289197

[Q] High Data Usage Problem (Tilt 2 on ATT)

Hey all, I did not have much luck using the search. Tried to find other people who have had this problem. **Plus nobody responded in the General forum so here I am again. **
We have 4 ATT Tilt 2 phones in my department. All with the same rom, radio, settings, etc. The difference in the phones is that 2 of them were purchased about a year earlier than the other 2.
*PROBLEM* TWO of the phones (the newer purchased Tilt 2's) we are getting alerts for high data usage from ATT. Looked at the ATT data logs, sure enough they have high data usage, large amounts at odd times. like 20mb - 100+mb transfers in the late night early morning, during the day. Not good, it is all adding up quick with no suspect in sight. The 2 users with this problem, use the phone data less than I do for day to day tasks and I am way under the alert limit, its not something they are causing---some of these data periods are while the user is ASLEEP (and no, we do NOT use MS myphone sync). Its got to be a phone software or software compatibility with the newer Tilt 2 hardware or something. I tried a couple different ROMS, same problem. Right now we are all on Energy.RHODIUM.21684.Sense2.5.Cookie.sencity.Nov.0 8
Radio: 4.49.25.77 (best signal in our area) Michigan
Please help. Thanks to anybody who can provide some guidance.
sounds like it is connecting for something and not disconnecting. I have this problem sometimes when it connects to download my email and weather, it will stay connected all night and kill my battery by the time i wake up.
TRY THIS, CREDITS TO THE GUY THAT HAD THE TIME TO PUT THIS TOGETHER, NOT ME
Enable Auto Data Disconnect for Auto Email Downloads and Other Downloads with a Cab File
When you have auto email downloads enabled, data is not disoconnected after mail retrieval and thus your battery is drained much faster. Modify the following reg edit to have data disconnect after 60 seconds. You can test this by tapping on the notfification bar while downloading emails and watch the data connection close after idle for 60 seconds. Please note. Data connection will NOT auto disconnect if you have any HTC Sense auto download enabled such as Weather, Twitter, Stocks, Facebook or Time Sync. Please set these apps to manual download only. Please note that this setting has the possible effect of disabling simultaneous voice and data on some devices, even if you are on a capable network and signal. See Tip 70 for an app that works with even HTC data downloads.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings
CacheTime = 60
SuspendResume = should be blank. Delete "GPRS_bye_if_device_off" text.
VPNCacheTime = 60
Finally An Auto Data Disconnection That Works - Save Battery Life!
Download the following cab file http://www.commmgrpro.com/CommMgrPro...witch.V2.8.cab
You can set it to disconnect data after 60 seconds or more or less thus saving you battery. Read the thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ght=bandswitch
Tried and tested for over a 2 weeks on my HD2 and works perfectly. Use INSTEAD of Tip 33.
The only problem i have with this is that it kind of defeats the purpose of a smart/connected phone. Its just so strange that only 2 of the 4 phones have this high data use problem, and they were all setup by the same person.
But on the other hand, it would be a good test method for data usage before and after. THANK YA!

Have this exact same problem using the latest Simplicity rom. Nothing, not even the weather is set to auto update, and by and large I no longer even use the phone save for 2 or 3 phone calls a month. Yet, like clockwork, get data warnings.
I wonder if this has anything to do with it (SEEING THAT BOTH OF OUR USERS WITH THE PROBLEM WERE LINKED TO YAHOO MAIL ACCOUNTS! And not the rest of us)

That problem is not just on wp7 is happening on iphones too. so u better unlink those yahoo mail accoounts or put your setting for manual downlad.
I unlinked my Yahoo account and disabled auto update of Sense Weather, my data usage did go down, not that I care about it as I have unlimited, but was surprised at how much better battery life I now have.

How to get Tasker to *actually* connect/disconnect VPN?

I have a problem with my recently purchased Tasker app. I tried posting on the official Tasker forum (https://tasker.helprace.com/s1-general/problems/top) but after I would click submit, nothing would come up. If anyone knows how to get in contact with the developers other than leaving a negative review on the Play Store that would be much appreciated.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S9 (not rooted) running whatever the latest version OS (Pie I want to say?).
I have a simple Profile setup to Connect to VPN when Wifi is connected, and Disconnect from VPN when Wifi is disconnected (as an Exit task) using the OpenVPN Tasker Plugin.
On rare occasion, everything works as expected.
Unfortunately, the majority of the time, it will indeed recognize the correct state (Wifi Connected), however, it will not connect to the VPN. When I go into Tasker, I see the Profile is green text, and if I go to More>Run Log I can see that it says something to the extent of:
"Active 2 Wifi Connected" then "Start TaskService" then "Running 3 VPN Connect" then "OK 3.1 VPN Connect.com.ffrog8.openVpnTaskerPlugin\n***\n*!" then "ExitOK 3 VPN Connect" then "Stop TaskService" (this is all in reverse order, since I think the run log puts the newest events at the top, but this is how I read them from bottom up).
Tasker even says 1 Task running on the notification bar on my lock screen. However the VPN is not connected. If I go into Tasker, turn off that profile, then turn it on again (via the toggle switch on the right hand side), the VPN will connect as expected and the run log will say the same exact thing.
Likewise for the Exit Task - when I disconnect from the network Tasker seems to recognize the state just fine (evident in Run Log and notification icon in lock screen), however my VPN remains connected (well my guess is it must disconnect for a short period as I transition from Wifi to 4g).
I have tried waiting a while to see if it's just a time issue, but I could wait hours and it will never trigger one way or the other (VPN Connect or VPN Disconnect). I have tried different Wifi networks. The Wifi State Active = "Any". In Android Settings>Apps>Tasker>Battery the toggle for "Allow background activity" is set to on, Optimize Battery Usage is set to off. Likewise for OpenVpn Tasker Plugin.
*Joao or anyone have any ideas?
Many thanks.
Troubleshooting = Because a Piece of Code went
Sorry to say that it looks like I am the 1st reply, as I have no real training in coding or programming myself.
I too recently began to play with such though with the intent to install it on some family member's devices ? However, like you I have not been able to get my desired automation regular enough to share it. When I 1st downloaded Tasker (I think) it had something about a "community" to share & get help with as well as more.
Trying to be helpful I ran a quick search for the specific site & as usual, Google had to go overboard with the results. Still hoping this will help you sooner as they all focus on that particular program:
https://community.home-assistant.io/t/tutorial-using-the-new-auth-system-with-tasker/82423
Just wondering if all the changes to Android OS as a whole may also have an affect on something minor such as whatever we choose to do with "automation" programming? Have seen throughout various post's & news that sort of thing....
for any other poor soul with the same problem, I read a couple of obscure comments on the interweb that the OpenVPN plugin for Tasker is no longer functioning, and all must be run through the Open VPN Connect app (NOT Open VPN for Android app) using intents. I found a guide once, and am testing it now and will report back if it works more reliably. Thank you Lone wolf for your reply.
just to update the poor souls, using intents like I said seems to work more reliably in terms of connecting to VPN. The only problem is if you go out of wifi range, it disconnects, but then are back within wifi range quickly (like somewhere with bad wifi signal), it will not connect again for some reason.
