I have tried a number of ROMS to upgrade to WM6/6.1
The upgrade appears to be successful and the inital screen suggest the upgrade has worked but the setup screens are still WM5 and after setup the device is still running WM 5.
As an example using the XM6r5Lite ROM shows a XDA 6 screen after hard boot but is still running WM5

I read the guide before attempting a ROM upgrade.
Its a G3 device that is unlocked.
None of the trouble shooting points in the guide seem to relate to the problem of the upgrade appearing successful but the device remaining as WM5rather than WM6.
Have I missed something

How did you check that the phone is CID unlocked? You realize there's a difference between SIM and CID unlocking
I am assuming it is CID unlocked as it was purchased SIM free directly rather than from a carrier

Get WST and read the CID block to be sure if it's indeed as what's happening to it looks like CID blocked situation.
I was getting the same problem with a G4 XDA Mini S
i tried hardspl, softspl and then in the end i flashed it using the CID locked guide. I managed to get TNT WM 6.1 on it, but it wont work properly, the GSM info on bootup screen now doesnt show half the time when i boot the phone up, i have reflashed the original O2 rom and it seems to be working, although it wont connect to my wireless. Gonna have another play with it and see what i can find out, will update this thread if i find anything.

I have used WST and tried the loki unlocker as well, but the phone just wont seem to flash with new roms.

Have you tried latest WST v4.2.2?
I added the possibility to CID unlock even if IPL/SPL values differ. Another member reported a success story with WST and a case like yours.

This Update Utility cannot be used for your PDA Phone. Please check your Update Utility.
Also, if I proceed further and attempt to flash the 3.08 ipl/spl, only the spl changes...the ipl remains at 1.01.
That message is clearly a sign of locked CID.
Have you tried to unlock CID anyway?
I have gone through the unlock stage is the Wiki instructions, then installed the T-Mobile WM5 ROM followed by the XM6r5Lite (WM6 not 6.1) ROM.
This time the device has taken the upgrade and initially appears to be working.

Re-reading my post above, I just noticed the version of ipl/spl - 1.01. I had always thought the oldest version was 1.08? Perhaps that is a clue?

Sorry to ask again but have you CID unlocked with latest 4.2.2 WST? I added a new feature that has helped another member with locked SPL. And what bootloader values you have exactly?
Yes, I downloaded the latest WST (4.2.2) and even though it reported CID and SIM already unlocked, I went ahead and re-unlocked both with no errors being displayed and successful restarts after each. Currently, my boot screen shows this...
ipl 1.01
spl 1.01
gsm 1.12.10.0
os 1.5.4.2
Unfortunately, when I attempt to load any other rom, the wizard gets hosed...and yes, that is a perfectly acceptable technical term in this case.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, so I guess every single CID unlocker I've tried so far has actually failed, even though they stated they succeeded (and even WST reporting already unlocked). However, when I run the mtty MFC applicaton (r2sd all), it fails every time stating the device is actually NOT unlocked (which is why I'm not able to flash any other roms).
So, knowing that NONE of the CID unlocker programs (that I've found throughout the forums and the ftp) are working on my wizard, what can I do? Are there other CID unlocking programs that could actually "force" the unlock to actually work?

Although,its a sign of CID not unlocked,but if you say,the WST tool reports it as CID unlocked. Which was the official rom on it when you downgraded.from your network sign,it appears you are on T-mobile network,so the official T-mobile shud flash and work on your phone.where did you downloaded the T-mobile Rom ? try to download from the T-mobile official site and check if it works or you can try wizard_love_Rom or xda_minis_launch.Its assumed you are flashing on winXP.

Yes, using WinXP. Tried the love rom, but no go...same as the t-mobile rom. Only found the t-mobile rom on rapidshare...couldn't locate an "official" source for it. Every time I try to flash anything other than the button rom, during the initial boot, the gsm line is missing from the display where the ipl, spl, gsm, and os display normally appears. Then, as the device boots into windows mobile, all interactivity with the device lags...each keypress can take up to 30 seconds to respond. So, I reflash button and all works just fine again. Very strange indeed.

Maybe I'm wrong here, but shouldn't you just be able to load the original test ruu again by running the exe? CID lock won't be an issue since both roms are Qtek roms.

Enter Bootloader, - hold the "camera" and shortly press the reset button, don't release "camera" until you can see color screen, connect USB cable, and start to flash any ROM you like
It has to be a shipped version not only a sepperate rom.
something like:'RUU_Prodigy_2080707_107_11310_QTEK_DAN_Test.exe'

with the bootloader i mean the bootscreen of youre Qtek during a reset

I am exactly in the same situation and can not downgrade. I want to downgrade to an earlier ROM as my companys email application for PDAs(www.good.com) do not run under the new 2.18.7.5 DAN.
I have also tried the bootloader trick without success.
Any suggestions on how to downgrade from the new ROMs?

I am a self proclaimed newb when it comes to cell phone mods, however i've started to research on this site and read a few of faria's and other people threads. I have come to the conclusion i'd like to test out summiters AKUv2.3 ROM, however from what im reading it seems since my phone is NOT CID locked i can not first downgrade to unlock the CID (needing what i believe is an <v2.21) to then flash the rom to his custome rom. although i also saw where someone said they used a cingular shipped rom to downgrade their phone, i believe my phone originally came with v1.18. my other option is to return this phone to the carrier and get another phone which would ship with the v.1.18 or whatever it was and then i can follow faria's thread..
am i correct? or is there the ability to downgrade with my current setup

If your phone is CID locked (and it is CID locked by default unless you have unlocked it) upgrading to the 2.25 ROM has prevented you from using the free tools on this site to do the unlock.
If you want to CID unlock you will have to pay for the http://imei-check.co.uk service. It claims to do both a SIM and CID unlock and is currently the only known way to CID unlock ROMs that are version 2.21 and higher. If you wait, a free solution will no doubt come out but if you want it now, it's going to cost you £20/$40.
Once the Wizard is CID unlocked you can flash any Wizard ROM you choose to it.

You'll want to flash to the original shipping rom which is on the xda-dev ftp at:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wizard/Roms/Cingular/Cingular_RUU_1.8.11.1.WWE.ship.exe
Once that's installed, use awizard or lokiwiz to CID unlock. And once that's done, flash to whichever ROM floats your boat.
Post back here if you run into any snags and can't resolve it reading through the existing messages.

im seeing conflicting statements here, 1 saying i can just downgrade to my shipped rom, the other saying i cant.
i received the phone yesterday, read up on some of the apps to try out, saw the new rom out, decided to try that out, did a soft reset on cingular extrom and then well have what i have, now i wanted to play a little more and test other peoples roms out and yet with no CID lock which would be the default i was under the impression i was SoL.. is that not correct? JUST to reverify with conflicting reports
after doing some more research i'm not sure which way is the accurate position, i read on one forum that there is a locking done once you go past the v2.21 rom so you cant downgrade to then Cid unlock, but then i've read other places you can, im downloading the v1.8.11.1 file and i guess ill find out soon enough

Try it, the worst that will happen is that you get an error saying that you can't flash an older Rom (than what is already installed).
well the update (downgrade to v1.8 shipped rom from 2.25) util is at 75% atm, .. will update accordingly....
ok well it ran the "downgrade" with no problems, i soft reset on the cingular apps, and when the system boots back up i get the following:
IPL = 1.08
SPL = 2.25
GSM = 1.09.11
OS = 1.8.11.1
so from what ive read on the forums i think it's a good thing i asked them to overnight me a new phone due to faulty reception (which is true it doesn't get the reception a buddies gets)..because i would assume with the SPL at > 2.25 i wouldnt be able to unlock the CID, correct?
I'm at wits end and have been trying to do this for weeks straight. It's driving me nuts. First, I read ALL 36 pages of the thread The Definitive Guide to Unlocking & Rom Upgrading G3 Wizards (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285435) and all of thread SOLUTION FOUND -CID/sim UNLOCKING FOR WIZARD WITH AKU2 ROMS (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=263116). Both refer to downgrading to (ftp://xda:[email protected]__RUU_Wizard_1050412_WWE_101_11210_WWE.exe). It always freezes at 98%. I tried different computers, cleared my Temp files, rebooted the phone and PC.. I tried all this over a dozen time and had to revert back to the factory ROM a dozen times. I even tried xelencin's ROM (T-Mobile_RUU_Wizard_2261020_226_22511_ENG_US.exe) which has a built in CID unlocker and it froze at 98% too!! It didn't unlock my CID either. It's working for everyone else who has Cingular or Tmobile phones, but I think since mine is directly from the factory, it's different. Is there any other ROM I can downgrade to 1.X or a way to CID unlock with my 2.17 (G3 phone). At this point I'm wore out of ideas and will try anything. I would greatly appreciate any help and experiences.
All flashing stalls for a while in different parts of the process showing the red bar in your phone (even @100% in the progress bar), how long have you left the phone in "freezing" status? May be you aren´t giving it enough time...?
try a different computer if its possible, i tried downgrading to button's rom like 10 times on my dell 700m and it got stuck @ 98% everytime, then i went to my desktop and it worked on the first try. best of luck
try searching 98% in the forums' i think other people had the same problem when i searched it months ago
To Unlock 2.xx you can use lokiwiz03
If your looking to CID unlock I believe lokiwiz03 will do the job. But if your on 1.xx IPL/SPL then you can use lokiwiz02.

then I have used the toll lokiwiz02b and choosed the option CID unlock.
After that I have try all of the WM6 ROM and it had worked with 100% of them.

Let me correct you here,your phone is semi CID unlocked due to 'HardSPL',it's not permanently CID unlocked or get it unlocked by lokiwiz02b,it didn't do anything,who gave you this impression,that you can CID unlock a G4 device with lokiwiz02b and that to after performing 'HardSPL'.you are upgrading to all wm6 latest custom built Roms,cuz your phone is HardSPL and all the new Roms do not include IPL/SPL in them,but never try to flash a rom with IPL/SPL in it,you'll "Brick" your phone,ok,even if you try to flash the official carrier's Rom,which includes IPL/SPL in it,will brick it,until and unless you remove the 'HardSPL' from your phone.
A permanently CID unlocked by lokiwiz02b can only happen with a G3 device and it can be flashed with any rom,even if it contains ipl/spl.
SO, don't post a wrong advise to guys,like this.

hi all..My MDA VARIO IPL is 1.01 and SPL is 2.26.I flashed MDA 2 times with Button Rom but no changes happend with SPL and its same.I want to upgrade my MDA to the latest Rom available with WM5.Now m stuck with my phone and dont know excatly wat to do.I downloaded the latest Rom from T-Mobile website and try to install but it gives me error i.e "249 Invalid Vendor ID ".

You may try to unlock first, then reflash again and SPL should also stay at 1.01.

That's just my experience. My Wizard was unlocked this way.
There may be many undiscovered solutions.

i've installed now Button Rom but still my IPL is 1.01 and SPL is 2.26 which is same as it was before with T-mobile Rom.Anyone can guide how to downgrade my SPL.Also how to chek whether my Phone is CID unlocked now? I run lockiwiz and i think its CID unlocked now but still wana confirm.

To CID unlock my G3 USA T-Mobile MDA, I simply used the tutorial [READ FIRST] The Definitive Guide to Unlocking & Rom Upgrading G3 Wizards and followed the instructions to the letter.
When I received my device, it was a factory shipped USA T-Mobile MDA with IPL/SPL of 2.26.
I flashed the button ROM giving me an IPL of 1.05 but leaving my SPL untouched.
I installed EnableRapi.cab and soft-reset.
I connected as a guest by canceling synchronization.
I downloaded lokiwiz and ran lokiwiz.bat and pressed U to SIM unlock my device and let it reboot itself.
I once again canceled synchronization leaving my device connected as a guest, ran lokiwiz.bat and this time pressed C to CID unlock my device and let it reboot itself.
I used WST to check to see if my device was in fact CID unlocked and it was.
This time I allowed my device to synchronize with my PC when it connected and then proceeded to flash the T-Mobile Official WM5 Rom directly after completing the unlocking process and it went smoothly.
Then I flashed the IPL/SPL set of 3.08 and that went smoothly.
Then I flashed the 2.19.11 T-Mobile UK Radio and again, that went smoothly.
After all of that was completed, I experimented with new ROMs for a while until finally settling for TNT.1437 TouchFlo using the 2.19.11 Radio and never had any problems the whole time.
Everything went so smooth that I thought about writing another tutorial that was simple and to the point describing the process that I used and detailing how to do it since all of the tutorials here are very complex and can be confusing to a noobie flashing for the first time but never got around to it.

Let me rephrase the question.
I have a friend who saw me use shell tool to upgrade my cid locked wizard.
He went home to try the same on his cid locked g3 wizard.
he had bad luck and it was interrupted mid way through so he brought me his dead wizard.(stuck on bootloader)
The only official rom i had was Tmobile's 3.08 so i flashed it to try and revive it.
it flashed and finished but still stuck on bootloader.
when i try and hard reset it says "format is failed".
button rom wont work, wizard love wont work, sd method wont work as it is cid locked.
Any ideas?
And if none, will imei-check work..
Get the official stock ROM for his Wizard, then flash it and you will get a working Wizard back.
However, if the IPL and SPL still stays at 3.08, there is possibility that IPL and SPL not downgradeable, so unlocking may not be possible.
Another thing...by CID unlocking the Wizard, there is no reason to use ShellTool while you can actually use RUU directly! Using ShellTool may lead to incomplete update!

Hey, the stock rom (tmobile 3.08) succesfully flashes but the wizard still doesnt boot. it gets stuck on the first screen.
Any more ideas?

Have you tried to flash the wizard with Hard-SPL or Soft-SPL.
I had the same with mine wizard (G4) but Hard-SPL worked for me.
You have a G3 so I don't no if it will work. Otherwise read this thread first post

Both solutions advised require WinCE to boot to be applied... which isn't the case here
